REMARKS My beloved Grizzlies, We have one more month together in the 2013-2014 term, and I am astonished that the year has passed so quickly! But who keeps track of time when you’re having fun? Our March DCM, District Convention, then the annual banquet, and it’s all over. Ah, if only it didn’t always seem to be that time is never enough! While we don’t have much left to cover, let’s make sure to put our all into what we know we have to do! Even if the term is ending, the world isn’t, which means your communities still need your service! Keep that passion to serve ignited, and be sure to participate in our FINAL events of the term! Thank you for your patience! See you soon, Grizzlies! With love, 2013-2014 LTG Demaree Ramos

BENJAMIN HOLT| Emybeth Pascual Hey Grizzlies! Ben Holt Key Club is finally getting settled with service events. On February 9th for PTP Craft Day, we had over 20+ members attend and participate during Circle K and Key Club’s joint service event. Many of our members appreciated attending, and loved how welcoming our grizzly family is! Also, Ben Holt Key Club made Valentine’s Day Candy Grams for our school and raised over $500 for our club. As a new club, we’re happy and thankful that our grizzly ohana is always there, and we hope to enjoy many years to come as Key Clubbers. :)

BEAR CREEK | Justine Do-Hyunh

U P D A T E S

Hi Grizzlies! I hope that you have all had a great start to the new year! This month Bear Creek has has a slow patch going on. However, we did have a couple of service events! During this month, we made a trip back to St. Mary’s Interfaith Dining Hall. There we helped by preparing food such as whisking eggs, cutting up vegetables, and making sandwiches. We also helped out in the dining hall by clearing off tables. Aside from the dining hall, we helped taiko instructor Earle Fox make taiko drums. Recently his drums had been stolen and so volunteers helped him in sanding down barrels and attaching frames. This month we also had elections where we were able to elect our new council for the 2014-2015 school year. Now we are trying to recruit people for DCON!

MCNAIR | Alexander Moran This month was pack full of events! We had two crab feeds offered to us by Kiwanis and the people of Bread of Life. We also helped out the monthly Bread of Life event and at the Circle K’s Valentine’s cards. Sadly, the fundraising event we wanted to do for Valentine’s was rejected by the school - selling candy is now shunned upon. Hopefully we can have a future fundraiser that will work in our favor.

CHAVEZ | Elaine Ho Hey, my lovely Grizzlies! I hope this year is going swell for each and every single one of you guys! (: This past month, we have been prepping our newly elected officers of the tasks that they should be doing. We have been collecting resources to make finding service events, fundraisers, and booking places easier. Nonetheless, we still haven’t forgotten about volunteering. We volunteered at the Oak Park Cleveland Elementary Memorial. Basically, it was a memorial commemorating the fallen 20 years ago at Cleveland Elementary’s shooting. We elcomed people who walked through the door, seated guests, and passed out food to everyone. We also volunteered at St. Mary’s Dining Hall during MLK Day serving the homeless a nutritious breakfast and lunch. Finally, we volunteered at the joint Circle K x Key Club Craft Day. There, we made dolls, folded origami, and created Valentine’s Day cards for sick children. That’s all, have a frame at day babies! <3

SECA | Carrie Huang HEY GRIZZZZLIES! I hope you are all staying dry in this rainy weather. In the month of January, the SECA Key Club was buzzing with service. We helped run a snack bar and hospitality at a Tiger Aquatics swim meet, sort and bag groceries at Bread of Life, and serve as runners at the two Academic Decathlon competitions. As always, members enjoyed serving others and spending time with their Key Club ohana. Many SECA Key Clubbers attended the joint Conclave and DCM with Division 27 South. Congratulations to Christopher Cabana for being elected as Lieutenant Governor for the 2014-2015 year! A few of us also attended the Pacific Circle K and Divison 27 North Key Club Craft Day. Creating Valentine’s cards, origami, and PTP dolls for children while bonding with Key Clubbers AND Circle K members was a wonderful experience. We held our club elections this month, and our officer-elects are as follows: Nayely Esparza-Flores for President, Carmen Huang for Vice President, Alyssa Fua for Secretary, and Eli Albarran for Treasurer. Congratulations to these four individuals! I can’t wait to see you all you grizzly bears at the next DCM and/or DCON 2014!

LINCOLN | Celine Deleon Greetings, Grizzlies! During the Sundays of January, we volunteered at Quail Lakes Baptist Church. We helped recycle items near the area. We are currently in the middle of holding elections for officers of the 2014-2015 term. The Lincoln Key Clubbers who went to the Crafts Day at UOP had a great time doing origami! Some Lincoln Key Clubbers also went to Conclave to witness the new LTG get elected. Congratulations to Chris and to the other candidates on all their accomplishments!

TOKAY | Angie Molina

Hello Key Clubbers! So to start things off, we volunteered at the Kiwanis Crab Feed on January 11. We helped set up, serve food to the guests, and clean up afterwards. Also, we received tips so the community service event also turned into a fundraiser. Other clubs sponsored by Kiwanis of Greater Lodi were also there and it was a great opportunity to serve with other grizzlies. Also, this past weekend we had some members help out with the Crafts Day with Circle K. DCON registration is almost completed as the deadline comes near. We are looking forward to spending a weekend with the Key Club Ohana. Also, elections are very close for our club.

MIDDLE COLLEGE | Selena Mae

Middle College’s Key Club was in hibernation for the bulk of December and January for a well-deserved one month break from all things school-related. One exception would be our attendance at D27N and D27S’s joint Conclave where we proudly watched our club vice-president, Christopher Cabana, get elected for the Lieutenant Governor position for the 2014-2015 school year! We were inactive since the last half of December up until our first key club meeting of the Spring semester and of the 2014 year on January 28th. We promptly took nominations for next year’s board positions and Elections will soon follow on February 4th. We are very excited to see what our candidates have to offer and have no doubt in our minds that any of them would be thorough and competent servant leaders. In addition, we’ve started preparing to register our District Convention attendees and we’ll hopefully have all DCON-related business settled by the end of February.

Tiger Aquatics | Nayely Esparza-Flores | SECA During the second weekend of January, the SECA Key Club volunteered at a Tiger Aquatics swim meet at the University of the Pacific. We assisted in their snack bar by handling food preparations like teriyaki bowls, baked potatoes, nachos, and hot dogs or by taking orders for people at the snack bar. We also assisted in hospitality. I personally enjoyed doing hospitality because it was really nice to be able to give coffee and snacks to coaches and officials who were out in the cold, early morning doing their job. We also handed out breakfast and lunch to them when it was time, and we walked around every once in a while with trays of various types of little snacks for them. They were very happy to see us every time and many thanked us for not forgetting about them. Tiger Aquatics is definitely one the most enjoyable Key Club service events that I always look forward to during the year. Dining Hall | Jasmine Santos | Bear Creek Working at St. Mary’s dining hall was a really fun experience. I had a great time getting to spend time with everyone. It was a great bonding experience because we got to talk and cook at the same time. Every there is so nice and I’m so glad that I was making a difference in the community. Being able to serve those who are less fortunate than me is a real eye opening experience. It made me feel humble and warm.
