LIEUTENANT G O V E R N O Over and out! R Lt. Governor Justine S Chang Think back to when you first heard about Key Club. Now, reflect on your journey to this very moment as a Key Clubber. What did you learn? What have you gained? What kind of great memories did you create? In the month of October, we were busy with our tremendously successful October DCM, “Stomp The Cave.” We had OVER 100 members come out for a great time of bonding, spirit wear making, and cheer training! All of that hard work didn’t go to waste, because on October 27th at Six Flags, our spirit was absolutely PHENOMENAL. There are more memories like that on our way, Grizzlies. Stay tuned for future division events and more service projects with your club!

BEAR CREEK Bear Creek’s Key Club has participated in four events and has had a wonderful turn out with 609.5 hours of service! These events include the Greek Festival, Family Day, AP Car wash, and Coastal Clean-up. Many of our members have shown dedication to the club and we look forward to having a fun/active year together. As for the month of October, Bear Creek has successfully collected and sent in the money for pre-paid Fall Rally tickets, coming up October 27th. So far we have 59 pre-paid members, and hopefully more will pay at the door so that we can have enough people to win that spirit stick! We look forward to see all of the key club members in Northern California soon!

Hey Grizzlies! This past month SECA volunteered with Dell Osso Farm for their Mud Run, helping to cheer on the obstacle course runners, as well as their corn maze/pumpkin patch. We’re still continuing our weekly tutoring at Peyton Elementary. We are also in the works of planning upcoming winter fundraisers, and wrapping up our fundraiser for PTP. We’re excited and looking forward to seeing everyone at Fall Rally North!

SECA

McNair Key Clubbers participated at the Health & Wellness Faire Set-Up, the Health & Wellness Faire event, the Stomp OUt Cancer (Grape Stomp), and the Lodi Library Clean-Up. We had three volunteers at the set-up, twenty-eight at the event, five at the Stomp Out Cancer, and twenty-five at the Lodi Library. At the end, the club volunteered a total of two hundred and six hours. For the month of October, the board are planning a Breast Cancer Awareness event towards PTP on campus to bring the spirit and awareness of Pink October to the school.

We finally received our fundraising materials. Members are excited to raise money for PTP. We will fundraise during our fall break next week. A few weeks ago Chavez volunteered at the Health and Wellness Fair. We had twelve members assist at several different booths. I was assigned to clean up after everyone was done eating breakfast. Other members supervised children painting pumpkins. Towards the end of the festival members were able to paint their own pumpkin. Afterwards they got to take it home. Lunch was provided to all volunteers. I personally enjoyed the sausage and found the pancakes bland. Last Saturday members volunteered at the Breast Cancer Walk along with Stagg. Once the actual race began, we cheered the runners on. It was an enjoyable day at Delta. Chavez is having a fall festival when we return from our break. It’s an easy way to earn money for our club. At first we wanted to sell sushi but then we realized that it would be a hassle. We would have to carry an icebox everywhere we went. Our next option was to sell cupcakes. Everyone thought it was an excellent idea. I’m hoping that we make a lot a profit. We are currently promoting the October DCM. We are encouraging Fall Rally attendees to go. I can’t wait to make posters and practice all of the cheers!

On September 15th, several Key Club members participated in the event called “Senior Prom” at Golden Haven, where we served as dates of elderly residents with Alzheimer’s. We took prom pictures with the residents, as well as ate dinner and danced with them that night. Members also helped with Presentation’s Annual Fall Fest on September 15th and 16th, volunteering at various game booths. On September 27th, we also had members volunteer at Quail Lakes Baptist Church, where we helped with packing lunches and gift bags. With October’s arrival, we anticipate many volunteer opportunities and upcoming events. Many of us are super excited for Fall Rally North! As of right now, there are 38+ members who plan on attending Fall Rally North, the largest number of members from Lincoln attending in the years I’ve been in Key Club. This month, we will also be volunteering at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on October 13th, Stockton’s Half Marathon on October 21st, and harvest festivals at elementary schools within Lincoln’s district!

At the Mud Run I was at station 20, which was near the end of the course where the mud was at. Of the runners hadn’t gotten muddy before, this is where they get really muddy! It was fun seeing the runners run and slip in the mud. What I had to do was cheer on the runners be cause some want- ed to get out and walk the rest of the way, so we en couraged them to go on.

Afew key club members volunteered for a project called, “Stomp Out Cancer, Grape Stomp.” Our purpose was to help out, but they were there to bring awareness to cancer. This event consisted of volunteers to help out since most the people were busy. Our job basically was to park cars and make sure the parking lot was not crowded or out of order. Our work was appreciated by the owners and representatives of the organization. Although assisting the cards was rough, we managed to pull through and complete around twenty hours of helpful service. We did not do as much as we expected, but what mattered was that we had gotten the work done.

07 A few of our Key Club members volunteered at Dell Osso Family Farm. We helped hand out maps for the corn maze, guarded the train tracks in order for no one to go through while the train went through, check wristbands for the haunted house, and help regulate the miniature speedway. The entire farm was Halloween/Fall themed. I had a lot of fun volunteering! The best part of the night was getting scared by the Pig Man roaming around the haunted house, getting lost in the corn maze, and eating pumpkin pie. I’d definitely volunteer again!

SUBMITTED BY: SALINA PHOVIXAY, SECA Family day was one of my favorite events that I attended. I had loads of fun helping children out by building house shaped piggy banks, while their mom’s talked to the realtors about buying a house. I also got to meet an author named Matthew Gollub, who was selling his collection of spanish and english children books, and since I helped him sell a bunch of his books he thanked me by giving me a free book! The people in charge of each booth were very generous to me, I’m glad I got to be one of their helpers throughout the day. Since this was my first year attending Family Day, I can honestly say I had a wonderful experience volunteering at this event. I can’t wait to volunteer at next years Family Day!

This was my first year going, and I regret not going last year during my freshman year. I have to say, RTC didn’t fail to impress. If everyone wasn’t sitting in workshops, they were either cheering their hearts out or bonding with other key clubbers. This was my first chance to get a peek at my fellow grizzlies decked out in our new division color: blue. In general session the divisions were seated next to each other, like in fall rally, and did cheer battles and mini activities like butt balloon popping. As for myself, I had attended the vice president, how to BEE less awkward, and how to run for a key club position workshops. All of which were very informative and helpful to my Key Club mind. RTC was truly a wonderful experience for me, and I’m pretty sure all of the other attendees as well. Before that day, I was thinking of running for a position within my club. After that day, I KNEW I wanted to for sure. This event inspired me to try to become a leader in Key Club and it made me realize how much I loved Key Club.

RTC recap...

Being in Key Club is absolutely amazing. I’ve been a Key Clubber since freshmen year and I’m glad to be one throughout my high school years. What Key Club taught me was being socially open and unafraid to communicate to those who you never met before is extremely rewarding. I actually met someone who became my best friend and we’re still great friends. Key Club also taught me that sharing a common goal to improve the community and working together is KEY in succeeding in that common goal. Key Club is devoted in community service and also spreading the spirit that comes along with it which makes me a proud to be a Key Clubber.

It was amazing; my life is now complete.

DARIO MORRIS SECA Hi guys! My name is Kristy Vang. I am a Freshman student at Cesar Chavez High School. I went on my first Key Club event, Fall rally, on October 27, 2012. We went to Six Flags, Discovery Kingdom. And guess what?! Fall rally was so much fun! I showed a lot of spirit and cheered a lot. I was full of ecstasy. It was better than I imagined it. I met some of my old friends from other schools, and some of them are from my division, too. A lot of the key clubbers from other divisions were so kind and enthusiastic. I hugged everyone of them and shouted, “How do you feel? Of course, they would start cheering to us. I had fun hanging with my amazing friends throughout the whole day. I created the best memories with them, as well. The day was just perfect. The whether was sunny and wonderful. The best part of the day was where Division 27 North gathered before we left, and started cheering with other divisions, such as Division 7, the Monsters. That day was the best day of my life. I never regretted it.

KRISTY VANG, CAESAR CHAVEZ

My favorite thing was meeting new key clubbers and spreading our key club spirit!

ANTHONY BO, BEAR CREEK

Fall Rally was an incredible experience to mingle with the other key clubbers from our district. It felt like a family even though we were all strangers.
