M E S S A G E

Hello Grizzlies! December was a great month for us! Some of our members attended the joint Circle-K-Key-Club event, Santa’s Gift of Service, and I’m sure all of the attendees had fun and learned a lot about service project opportunities! In addition, we also had Candidate Training Conference for several regions at the Kiwanis Family House, and it was a successful training event! At last, our DCM had a decent attendance, and we did a couple service events that were corresponding to the season in addition to the movie Elf! Looking forwards, we only have less than three months left until the term ends, but we should still be serving our community and recruiting at all times! If you have a service project or event idea, feel free to reach out to your respective board members, the DLT, or me and we can try to make it happen! Lastly, I hope all of you have had a refreshing break to restart the school semester! Don’t forget to take care of yourself during this cold, rainy season! Keep warm and try to stay active to avoid catching the flu! See you next month!

One of the district governor’s ability is to create a district-wide project. The governor’s project this year is “BEE Clean, CNH!” In our community, there are quite a bit of things that we can do to answer the call of this project! You can look into: recycling for your school/church/clubs, cleaning up roadsides and parks, participating in school beautification, and etc. I encourage all of you to look into projects like these! However, even on a daily basis, we ourselves should follow this motto as well. Remember to not waste water, food, or any materials. Always keep your surroundings clean and tidy, especially in a public area! Be clean, and be green!

Children’s Miracle Network "Children's Miracle Network (CMN) is a nonprofit organization that raises money to benefit hospitalized kids and increases awareness of its member hospitals. All CMN contributions directly benefit hospitals, helping to purchase up-to-date equipment, train staff, conduct life-saving research, implement outreach programs, and provide healthcare for children whose parents can't afford to pay."

Pediatric Trauma Program As trauma continues to stay as one of the biggest reasons of death in children, the Pediatric Trauma Program fundraises to provide staff/equipment development for children’s hospital as well as other preventative measures taken in many cities.

The Eliminate Project The Eliminate Project is a partnership with UNICEF to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus around the world via vaccination. As each vaccination costs $1.80, even a small amount of money fundraised by Key Clubbers can save a life!

March of Dimes "Every day 1 in 8 babies born in the U.S. arrives too soon. Premature birth can happen to any pregnant woman, and no one knows why. It is a serious, common and costly problem. Key Club members are helping by raising thousands of dollars annually for the March of Dimes Youth Program to help prevent pre-maturity."

Please continue to attend service events! Not only will it benefit our communities, it will also help us reach our district goal of 1.1M service hours! Keep working hard Grizzlies!

As the term ends, please try to fundraise one last time for our preferred charities, especially PTP! You are all heroes to the children that are being helped!

Don’t forget that any high school student can join Key Club, anytime! As long as they pay dues, they can easily become an official Key Club member! If you have a friend who is thinking about joining Key Club next year, tell them that they can join NOW!

On the first of December, Key Clubbers were filled with energy at Venture Academy to help games going on throughout the day from eleven in the morning to six in the evening. Members’ jobs varied from assisting in the point system for games or handing out drinks and snacks. Some were even tasked to helping participants with their tags and registration. One of the participants, Karlaine, summarized her job at the event- “I was the score keeper. I also served food, and we had a meet up. Although the weather was cold, the volunteers were enthusiastic after the event from being able to help many different people, and making this event successful.

Right around the corner of the holiday spirits, Cesar Chavez key clubbers have volunteered to help stuffed teddy bears for kids who have experienced traumatic sexual abuses. During the last collaboration with J.D Kortzeborn Child Advocacy Center, we did not have the opportunity to work on additional elements, such as, sewing and cutting fabrics. As Mrs. Jensen arrived with the materials, the students would help coordinate in the library and stay for about two to three hours finishing up the stuffing, sewing, and cutting. There would be groups of students surrounding a table doing a particular part in the creation of a full teddy bear. We were able to complete the entire workload due to an increase of members who attended this service! As evening rolls in, everyone assisted in cleaning and tidying not just the library, but Mrs. Jenson’s materials as well. It was a well bonded moment with key clubbers and sending these teddy bears to traumatic kids for the Christmas holiday!
