Lieutenant Governor 2013-2014 Demaree Ramos What up, Grizzlies?! LTG Demaree here with a few things to say about the past and coming monthFirstly, I hope everyone at the May DCM had a wonderful time. I for one, definitely enjoyed having some water balloon fun, and found the hours of prep TOTALLY worth it ;D If you weren't able to make it, please try your best to come to our June DCM which will be held right before Officer Training Conference. Division Council Meetings are a great way to bond with Key Clubbers from other schools and learn about Division, Region, District, and International happenings! They're also perfect opportunities to give some feedback or suggestions to the Leadership Team (though questions and comments are always welcome through any means possible). Secondly, I'd like to congratulate each member for completing another year of school. I hope final exams and projects weren't too strenuous on you all! Give yourselves a round of applause for making it out alive, especially to my senior peeps that are graduating or have graduated high school - thank goodness that's over, right?! In all seriousness though, whether you joined in 2012 or have been a part of the Grizzly ohana for all 4 years, I would like to thank you for your spirit, your service, and your contribution to Key Club simply for your presence :') You will be missed, but remember that as your ohana, our arms will always be wide open if ever you're in need of a big ol' bear hug. -sniff- i lub u long time

And with that comes my last point: although the school year is over, the new Key Club term has barely begun! Please remind yourselves that there are Key Club events during summer months. The community still needs your help and service; the Division still needs your attendance and participation; your club still needs your attention and support (especially officers, I've got my eye on y'all). "Caring, our way of life" - allow this idea to become a part of you. Let it take on a mind of its own and shine forth in everything you do. BE THE CARE. BE THE KEY CLUBBER.

That's all for now! I look forward to this next month of spirit in service, and thanks to everyone that made last month amazing!

Speaking of thanks, please show a special appreciation to IP LTG Justine, IP EA Annie, and IP DTE Carmen for everything they've done to make last year as spectacular as it was! Roaring with spirit in service, 2013-2014 LTG Demaree Ramos

club updates Middle College

This past April, Middle College High School's Key Club participated in two service events! The first was Kiwani's One Day held at the Children's Museum in Downtown, Stockton. Along with a few other clubs from Division 27 South and North, we helped with the annual "spring cleaning" and beautified both the interior and exterior of the museum so that it's visitors can enjoy a pleasant and sanitary experience. The second event we attended was Stockton's Earth Day Festival where we manned specific locations around the Victory Park area to ensure that the bikers didn't stray from the designated route. We enjoyed seeing the lovely faces of the participants whom safely all made it back to the starting point without trouble. As for future events, we are currently planning a car wash fundraiser that would occur during our Summer break and Middle

month as we’d like because there haven’t been many volunteering opportunities. Back in April we volunteered at the Pixie Woods clean-up and the Salvation Army booth at the Asparagus Festival. Our members have been looking for events but there hasn’t been much going on lately! We are currently planning a club banquet because many of our members did not attend the division-wide banquet a couple weeks ago to celebrate all they’ve done and encourage them to continue serving. We found an event occurring over the summer and are still trying to get in contact with the coordinator. Our officers are getting together occasionally to come up with ways to improve the spirit and involvement of our club. This year has been filled with so much laughter and memories, thanks everyone!

club updates SECA

Hey Grizzlies! SECA volunteered at three events this month: the Pixie Woods Clean Up Day, Kennedy Games, and Lathrop Beautification Day. All three service events were fun and memorable, especially the Lathrop Beautification Day. Our club was awarded with a plaque from the Youth Advisory Commission of Lathrop, thanking us for constantly volunteering at their events. A few of our members attended the D27 Joint Banquet, and we had a lot of fun. We will definitely miss having Justine as LTG, but we are excited for a year with our new mama bear,

Demaree! We are looking forward to the May DCM that is coming up soon!

What’s up, Grizzlies? Throughout this spring season, Lincoln has been

volunteering at a variety of events! The day before Easter Sunday, we volunteered at Presentation Church and helped decorate the church for their Easter season. For Kiwanis One Day, we went to the Children’s Museum and cleaned up their garden. On May 4th, we volunteered at the March for Babies event where we managed the popcorn/snow cone stand and helped clean up after the event.

This past month our club has volunteered at the Mudville Track Invitational at Lodi. Our school was put in charge as the hurdle crew and some were sent off to do other events where they were needed. Also, since the year is coming to an end we are planning an end of the year party for the club members who stay in the club for the long run. We have also discussed future events that we will be planning during this summer of 2013. That’s about sums up this month.

club updates Lodi

In the past month Lodi High's Key Club has been very busy. At the beginning of the month the majority of our club attended the joint division banquet where we were presented with the distinguished club award and our IP treasurer Cynthia Arredondo received the distinguished treasurer award. Later in the month we worked to volunteer with "The Animal Friends Connection" pet shelter in Lodi to wash and walk dogs. We also worked the Mormon Helping Hands of Lodi on a park beautification day at Lodi Lake. Finally, at the end of our month we had three current officers attend the Kiwanis KeyLeader retreat where we were able to develop new skills as leaders to bring back to our home club. We are currently working on Eliminate Week and have planned to have our last meeting on May 13th. Our meetings

may be coming to an end but we plan to continue service projects throughout the summer.

Bear Creek Hello Key Clubbers! This month we’ve had a busy month. During this transition period, our new board has gone through training in order to be the best council that we can be. Our club volunteered at the annual Pixie Woods event where we helped clean up the park. Bear Creek also volunteered at the Color Vibe Run event. We met a lot of new people who were just as excited as we were. From the event runners, to the volunteers, to the hosts, you could feel the energy everywhere. Our club cheered the runners on as they passed the finish line and threw colored powdered on them for the finished look! We also helped the Salvation Army during the Asparagus Festival. Here we were able to talk to people about the Salvation Army. We helped little kids spin a wheel to win a prize. I look forward to more upcoming events!

Lathrop Beautification Day Salvador Andrade, SECA On April 27th, our Key Club members had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer at Lathrop’s annual Beautification Day. There, we shoveled roots and planted flowers to make one of Lathrop’s eye-popping neighborhoods even more beautiful! After a long day of work, Key Club members got to chow down on delicious hot dogs along with other goodies. Soon after we were done eating, the Lathrop Youth Commission presented SECA with a plaque, recognizing all of SECA’s hard work and dedication that they have put into the city of Lathrop. This, by far, has been one SECA’s most favorite and memorable volunteer events!

Kiwanis One Day Matthew Frando, MCHS Kiwanis’s One was a semi-large community service event that took place at The Children’s Museum in Stockton and involved a few high schools including Middle College, Franklin, and Lincoln high school. The event itself was mainly improving and detailing parts of the museum. Although the work was a little difficult, I still had an enjoyable time, especially knowing that I would be rewarded quite a few hours of community service. My job was cleaning up the lawn and laying out a new layer of bark, along with a few other members from my high school. We finished the job within two hours, and ended the day with a few hot slices of Domino pizza.

On April 28th, my friend Kehaulani and I volunteered for The Salvation Army booth at the Asparagus Festival. It was a great experience, we had asked for donations and attended the game wheel. The people were very friendly and were fun to talk to. It felt great to help out knowing it was for a good cause. In conclusion, it was fun to interact with new people as they walked by and as I previously said it felt great to volunteer for a great cause!

Jog a Dog Kristal Melendrez, Lodi The Jog A Dog event was one of the most fun of the year. We arrived and were able to choose a shelter dog to walk with for the day. We were all able to bond throughout the walk and had a lot of fun with our dogs. They got tired really fast so we ended our walk abruptly and then sat and watched the dogs and played with them while the representatives from the shelter were busy with the event.

Children’s Museum Christian Pagala, Lincoln Working at the Children’s Museum in downtown Stockton was exciting at first because I didn’t know Stockton had a place like this. It was so cool to see the inside of the museum, so many exhibits for little kids to interact with and learn skills and public information about daily life. My Key Club friend and I worked on deconstructing some old stairs. It was hard work, but with time and effort, we demolished the two old stair cases. We worked outside and were able to chat with other Key Club members from Lincoln and other clubs around the city, who were working on the landscape: cleaning gutters, collecting leaves, and pulling out weeds. I had such a great time working, and I felt good because at the end of the day, I helped out and did a good deed.
