message from the ltg

Hello my D27N Grizz Bbs !!

It has been a rough year on all of us battling COVID-19, but I am so proud of you all for being able to get through it and remain active at that. I’d especially like to give a huge congratulations to our IP Sebastian Flores. If you haven’t already contacted him, please do. He deserves the world and more for everything he was able to accomplish this past term. With that being said, I am beyond excited to be entering this next term with you all. It’s filled with so many uncertainties, but I know at the end of the day we will all just have a great time together, regardless of its outcome. I hope to get to know each and every one of you. Here’s to an amazing term with some amazing people !! - yours truly, hailey phan <3

community outreach

- get in contact with a variety of organization and design a service project according to their needs - example: contact schools and ask them if they need recording of members reading books, if they need alphabet cards. etc - example: contact organizations focusing on mental health and ask them if they need posters informing and educating others about the importance of mental health and coping mechanisms - organize various drives (blanket, clothes, toiletry, toy, etc.) and donate them to local homeless shelters, hospitals, etc. - collect clothes, blankets, and other items that members don’t need and organize a yard sale - donate the money collected to homeless shelters, mental health organizations, etc. - organize a schoolwide or clubwide recycling fundraiser. - donate the funds collected to organizations of your choice

toiletry drive

From March 1st to March 12th, St. Mary’s Key Club held their annual toiletry drive. Students were encouraged to participate in this drive by donating toiletries such as toothbrushes, soaps, and shampoos with all proceeds going to St. Mary’s Dining Hall. Boxes were placed throughout the campus along with posters and announcements to bring in plentiful donations. At the end of the two weeks, the hundreds of toiletries were separated into distinct piles for easy distribution. “It felt really good being a part of such an important service event” club member Vince Magsayosays, “I am looking forward to this drive when it comes around next year.”

sunset dcm

In March, a District Council Meeting was held and we had three people from our club attend. This was the last DCM held before the start of the new term. We also had one of our officers and our faculty advisor recognized during the monthly recognition. After the meeting was over, members could choose to play online board games with other attendees in Breakout rooms, create sunset themed cards for those in nursing homes, and watch the sunset. Overall, it was a nice DCM to end off the term with, and members that attended enjoyed it.

community outreach

From March 15th to the 19th, St. Mary’s Key Club held their annual Easter Gram Fundraiser. Throughout the week, members of the club sold Easter Grams during lunch in a minimal contact procedure utilizing google forms in compliance to Covid safety. As soon as the sales were over, St. Mary’s Key Club members spent hours after school the following week assembling the Easter Grams to ensure the candy would be delivered to the students right before Easter break. The fundraiser was very successful, making $200 in sales along with candy donations. “This fundraiser was a great way to spread some holiday cheer on campus” club officer Madelyn Robancho says, “the looks on the student’s faces when they received an Easter gram was priceless.”
