RTC PREVIEW

One of the definite highlights of going back to school is Regional Training Conference. It is a day filled to the brim with anticipation, knowledge, and spirit. Key Clubbers sit through informative presentations on Key Club, leadership, and service. After the training conference, there is the spirit rally where clubs from each division cheer their hearts out and try for their division’s spirit stick. I 100% guarantee RTC to be one of the most intense and fervorous experiences you will ever come across in your whole high school career. RTC is currently planned for October 3, 2015 at Green Valley High School. Keep in mind that the October SAT is also on this date.

SPOT. ON SERVICE

Spotlight on Service...

CHILDREN’S EDUCATION

The Spotlight on Service Program challenges clubs to participate in the monthly focuses to fulfill our Major Emphasis– Children, Their Future, Our Focus. Create a service project that incorporates the focus for this month. Book and/ or school drives are great service initiatives because they promote the value of education. Some children and students do not have the money to buy materials to get the proper education they need, but that does not mean they do not deserve it. The book drive can be started at the school level, division level, and community level!

Builders Club is our sister leadership organization for middle school and elementary school students. Working with these clubs show the students that education and learning are truly important. Some possible events include helping Builder’s club hold a book drive, providing tutoring programs, hosting literacy workshops, and working with Builders’ Club to hold school supplies drive for other schools.

YMCA’s goal is to provide an opportunity or each individual to thrive and learn, no matter what age, income, or background. This is a nonprofit organization for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Clubs can contact their local YMCA center and inquire about raising funds, coaching sport teams, teaching classes, and advocating the Y’s initiatives.

LV COMIC CON

Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con was absolutely fun to volunteer for. As I was able to explore and help throughout the convention floor. On the first day, I started to check the attendees’ wristbands, and tag cosplay weapons. After the job, the staff told I was able to explore and get used to the convention floor. Where I tried to recognize every artist and merchandise booth. I was to also able to have fun, and just look around some awesome and cool booths. Almost everyone who volunteered wanted to see and experience the comic convention environment. I had the chance to meet and work with some people from Valley HS Key Club. When I was done with my assigned shift for the day, I was able to get a free wristband for the next day or after.

LV COMIC CON

I decided to volunteer the next day, and it was more work to do. Where I had to manage and snake lines for some booths. I was able to manage the line of the creator of Deadpool, which was a famous one. It was the hardest one to manage due to the abundance of followers of his work. As where the line is located, and how the line snakes and breaks where. Later I had to also help some other booths with long lines to prevent fire hazards. However, during the volunteer work and exploring, I was able to see the creative costumes people made, and see some celebrities. After the shift, I went the arcade section, which was free to play. The arcade was all fighting games, like Mortal Kombat, Super Smash Bros, Street Fighter, etc‌. I consider volunteering for these conventions is fun to do, and free to just look around. Las Vegas Comic Con was absolutely fun to be a part of.

HELLO PHOENIXES! My name is Tatiana Lim and I am serving as your District Tech Editor for the 2015-2016 Key Club term. It is with extreme excitement to serve you all these upcoming months! Today, I would like to share with you my Key Club journey. In early September 2012, I had decided to attend my very first Key Club meeting. This had been a huge step for me as I had always been a shy individual all throughout elementary and junior high. Right as I walked in, everyone was so inviting, enthusiastic, and very helpful.

16

LIM KC STORY

After a few introductory meetings, I decided to officially become a member of Key Club- little did I know how much this club would mean to me just a few years later. I fell in love with service. I loved helping my community, meeting new smiles, and most of all, having that warm, fuzzy feeling in my heart whenever I knew I truly made a difference in someone's life. For two years, I had been the most important entity within Key Club- a member. Where would Key Club be without its members? After two Regional Training Conferences, I realized I wanted to do more for the club and run for club Historian/Tech Editor. This had been one of the greatest decisions I've ever made. Fast forward a few months, last

LIM KC STORY

February, I decided to run for club president- against my best friend! I knew, regardless of who won, that both of us would lead the club to great success. Today, I am truly proud to say that my best friend, Ms. Kristen Canlas is now the club president for West CTA Key Club. Phoenixes, what I would like you to learn from my Key Club journey is this: YOU as a member are so very important to the Key Club International Organization. I served more than half of my current high school career as a member! Furthermore, if you do plan on running for office in Key Club, go for it regardless of the circumstances! Have passion, and serve others. Lastly, always know that even after a loss, there's always bigger, better opportunities out there for you. My name is Tatiana Lim. I served as a member for two years; a club historian/tech editor for one year; and today, I am immensely HONORED to serve all of you as CNH District Tech Editor. Please feel free to contact me at cnhkc.dte@gmail.com.

Thank you all for reading & I hope you have an amazaBEEs

DIVISION UPDATES

Fire Points Update

I introduced to you the new Fire Point system as a way to further our aspirations in merging the division together as a whole. After nearly two months of implementation, a trend we have noticed is that bigger clubs tended to be ahead by a few hundred points, even if those clubs had much more potential for points. In a sense, they were ahead even though a smaller club worked harder than they did. With that said, I would like to introduce the first change to the point system. As of this month, we will award 300 points for each club that hosts a service project, such as letters to veterans or making PB&J sandwiches. Furthermore, we are awarding 200 points for each club that turns in their Club Update forms, a form that we will give out to clubs soon. We hope that these two additions will be able to close the gap between the bigger and smaller clubs, as to create a balance between the size of the club and the effort put in.
