Is everybody still suffering from RTC withdrawals? Because I sure am! In case you didn’t see, I made a recap video for this year’s Regional Training Conference. If interested, it is linked on page 15. Remember, Fall Rally South is Saturday, November 14, 2015 and Division 28 North is meeting at Canyon Springs High School. See full itinerary on page 26. As usual, I hope everybody is continuing to do service. There are so many great ongoing events and events coming up in October and November such as the Haunted Harvest and the Springs Preserve and the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Stay soaring, phoenixes! “No School November” is almost here.

RTC 2015

RTC 2015 Regional Training Conference This year's RTC was blast! Although the overall attendance of RTC across the valley decreased, our club attendance doubled since last year. Most of our members attended RTC for the first time and I'm glad they had fun. From the beginning of the day, everyone was excited to cheer. Throughout the sessions, we all learned great things, which we shared in our meeting. When the cheer sessions came, everyone was nervous. When Canyon Springs was called, we knew it was time. I screamed, "Get Up and Cheer!" We sang our hearts out and the crowd sang along. At this moment, it was hard to hold onto the emotions. I just imagined myself having fun with my friends, which was true. Unfortunately, we couldn't make the third round, but I was still happy. I knew each one of us tried the best we could. I could not have been more proud of our Key Club! Thank you to everyone who attended RTC and to everyone that made it happen! WOOOOOH!!!

Justine Centeno

President//Canyon Springs High School Going for the first time to RTC is honestly an experience I will never forgot. At first you think about how many people are there and realize they are all wearing tutus. It is a bit scary looking for someone who doesn't socialize that well but after a while you realize it is fun to be at this event. Everyone accepts you and treats you like family and no one is ever put down. Its a place where everyone can feel accepted and asked "How do you feel?" a bunch of times. RTC has made me realize that being in Key Club means so much more than just any regular school club, we get together with schools all over and get to interact with each other. It is all about walking to your next workshop and hearing school chants and watching as classrooms get filled up. It is about learning different things to make yourself and your club better. From standing out in the sun watching clubs compete and to dancing the night away to end the day. This is a day at RTC.

RTC 2015

It was 5:45am, I had just woken up from my deep 5 hour slumber, wanting to go back to sleep. But then I thought, "Wait, today is RTC!!" Thus, I struggled to wake up anxious for what was in store today. It was 6:15am when Stanley picked me up and we made our way to Green Valley, where a new adventure was going to unfold. That day, I had asked Richard to borrow his camera so I could take photos in order to capture all the memories. All the clubs, from Division 28 North, South, and West, arrived around 7am to check in with their school and their DLT. When 8am hit, all clubs were directed to the general session in Green Valley's gym where clubs started to show their spirit. Making sure all the clubs filed in, the general session followed with introductions, the pledge of allegiance and the Key Club pledge, and LTGs who then further explained how the day was going to go. First off, workshops that everyone had to attend from 8:56am - 2:11pm. Each workshop was divided into 5 sessions out of the many that RTC had to offer. Each session was 51 minutes with lunch in between. Throughout these various workshops that people attended, we could have learned numerous things on being a Key Clubber like: Running for an Officer Position, Managing Time, How to properly communicate through the internet or text when talking about business, etc. Compared to last year, I thought this was a more effective way presenting workshops since last year we were crammed up into a hot gym where people easily fell asleep. It was really great being able to see my friends from other clubs going around through the workshops, where I saw most of my friends from West CTA. After all these workshops, at 2:16pm, all the members gathered back to their respective clubs after being scattered throughout their workshops of their choice, where clubs assembled back to their division and LTG for the Spirit Rally. This year, A-TECH made it up to the 3 round! This year was a blast with our cheers and seeing all the spirit that was contained in one place. For clubs who made top three in their division then competed outside where the first place winner of their division would win the spirit stick! ECTA won from D28N, Southwest CTA won from D28W, and Valley High School won D28S. The next thing that was competed for was the Region stick between those top 3 schools. The winner was tough to decide but in the end, ECTA won. Shout out to ECTA. Through these series of events, RTC came closer to an end, but it wasn't entirely over yet. After we had all finished cheering and calmed down, it was dinner time. Pastas and salads were served which tasted fantabulous, so thanks for the chefs and assistance for the people who volunteered and made this RTC possible. Also, thanks to the chaperones otherwise not all the people who signed up for RTC could have gone. And thanks to Ms. Santee for making everything possible! 13

Despite having such a great dinner, the rest of the time, from 6pm-8pm, all the clubs just turned up and just rocked out, while others decided to relax at the back of the school having their own little fun. Overall, RTC 2015 will be an unforgettable RTC since it ran so well. I am sure that many of the people who attended RTC will have this memory stuck with them forever.

FOOD FESTIVALS Greek Food Festival and Pure Aloha Festival Throughout my three years in Key Club, Greek Food Fest has been one of my favorite events to volunteer at. This year is the year I would like to consider as the best time I’ve ever had volunteering. In short, Geek Food Fest is a huge event in which people from all over the valley come together to enjoy Greek food and culture. The crowd that the church brings is enormous, and they can’t possibly keep up with the demand of thousands of orders. This is where us high schoolers come in. Several high school clubs such as Key Club and NHS volunteer at Greek Food Fest, providing us free entrance into the event, free food, and hours of service. This year was special because it didn’t rain and I had a lot of fun working my station. My station was the gyro station, which was some Greek delicacy made with a pita, gyro meat, vegetables, and a special Greek yogurt sauce called tzatziki. It was a ton of fun to be called the chief of my clan because we did have a lot of A-TECH Key Clubbers stationed there. I also got to serve with none other than our very own D28N News Editor, Carmen Chan. Working the gyro station was tough, learning the locations of each food item and running trays back and forth to the cooks to the heat boxes to the servers. Although the gyro station was a busy job, I had so much working with the A-TECH crew. After bailing the station, Carmen and I walked around looking for other homies and we enjoyed some Greek foods. The rest of the day was simply hanging out with my friends, eating food, and playing a classic high school game of Truth-Or-Dare. I definitely recommend attending and volunteering Greek Food Fest because it is a great opportunity to rack up service hours as well as find time to hang out with your friends and enjoy the Greek culture.

Volunteering at Pure Aloha was a great experience. At the festival, I was sorting and organizing the tickets of the attendees. It was a relatively easy, relaxing shift because fellow Key Club members were also there to add some spice while we were working. Once our shifts were done though, that’s when the REAL fun started. Everything looked delicious and tempting, it was a shame that I didn’t have the money to buy everything. Plus, my lame allergies certainly limited the food choice for me. Nonetheless, I was still able to get some bomb food. The mahi-mahi musubi was definitely worth it and I only regret not getting more. It was a really fun time spending the day with fellow Key Club members and to also see the Hawaiian-Pacific culture at Pure Aloha. Not to mention, I got a killer hat at Pure Aloha.

BADUA KC STORY

When my cousin Rey-Rey (IP Lt. Governor ), had joined key club his first year, I was told to ask him, "HOW DO YOU FEEL" out loud. At first I asked him, "SO HOW ARE YOU" obviously not understanding why I wanted to know how he was doing, but when I asked correctly the second time, I couldn't even. Rey-Rey just started doing this loud chant about how he felt so good in the middle of this casino. I thought, "wow okay just tell me you're doing great you don't have to go crazy"! That was when he told me about Key Club. Learning that I could meet cute people, and hang out with them all the time while yelling like crazy and being socially acceptable made me want to join immediately. Key Club also did community service but at the time, I thought cool we'll do productive stuff I guess. Freshman year came around, and I just couldn't wait to find that cute boy at RTC and see the LTE, LIT, LTG whatever they were, then attend Six Flags because I'd never gone there before. LVA Key Club then began providing these service events, where we could chase people around as zombies in a run, help set up for school events, and going to soup kitchen. I saw so many hands raised to go to these service events, and so I thought wow if this many people are going, why not it might be fun! After attending service events I started to fall in love. I didn't care about cute boys or followers on social media, I really enjoyed giving back, and knowing that no matter how small a service event, I made a huge difference. I was giving back to people, and in return received smiles, laughs, great memories, and a sense of leadership. I felt so strongly of giving back to this club that has shaped a second family for me, that I wanted to really learn, what Key Club was all about. Today, I could tell anyone about Key Club, and how amazing it is. Not only are we all cute, but we give back to the community, and become key's ourselves, to the future. Key Club is definitely my second Ohana, and I am proud to serve today as Lt. Governor of Division 28 North.
