Words from the LTG Hello, Phoenixes! How're all of you doing? I hope you all are doing well! The month of October was an amazing month! Seeing all you members at Region Training Conference was an amazing sight. You all never cease to amaze me with the high spirits and love you have for Key Club. I hope you all enjoyed RTC as much as I enjoyed it, and I hope you all were able to gain a great amount of knowledge about Key Club as well! I will say that some of my favorite moments were when I would have conversations with members and you all would say that you became inspired and wanted to do more in Key Club! Believe it or not, this 2012-2013 term is already more than half way over and it's almost time for a new generation of leaders to take over! I definitely encourage everyone to consider running for a leadership position because many of you have the potential to be great servant leaders. If you are contemplating running for a leadership position, my greatest advice to you is to never doubt yourself and the potential you have! Now we are entering the month of November, and that is the month of Fall Rally South! Are you all excited? Well I hope you are! If not, get excited because we are going to enter Fall Rally and show the district who the Phoenixes are! We Phoenixes have a spirit that is undying and a love that spreads like wildfire! Remember that our main purpose is to attend and raise money for PTP, so never forget about that purpose. I can't wait to see you all soon, Phoenixes; I can't wait to see you all in your orange and navy blue spirit gear cheering your hearts out. Stay fiery, Phoenixes! See you soon!
Scorching with service and spirit,
Ailina Heng Lieutenant Governor

REGION TRAINING C
On October 13, 2012, kicking off with RTC was a major blast! Every year, I continue to learn countless new things about Key Club. I've had an amazing experience, especially since I got to rekindle and catch up with many of my friends. It was exciting to see so many different clubs show off their creativeness. Additionally, I'm extremely proud and thankful to be a part of Rancho's Key Club. We managed to achieve the spirit stick for the first time. Woot woot! Rancho!
Congratulations to RANCHO for bringing home the D28N Spirit Sticks from RTC!

This year I attended RTC; and I made some of the most memorable memories with other members. I had an amazing time shouting our cheers together. When we won into the second round, I saw how happy everyone was; especially Silvia our president. I cannot forget my first RTC experience and never will. I am thankful for all of our spirited members and I am extremely grateful to be an officer for them this year.

CONFERENCE: The After The Regional Training Conference this year was an amazing experience for each member, veteran and freshman. Our club didn’t have a lot of members attend, but the people that did go said their experience was truly amazing. We were able to interact with other clubs and it was astounding how friendly everyone was. Although we did not win the cheer off, we were still enthusiastic about the divisions that did win. The dance at the end was fun, and next year we all hope to go again. Not only did we all have a good time, we all learned what it was to be in Key Club. We are not only based in the United States, but all over the world. It was surprising to learn that a lot of other teens our age are into helping our community just like us. Hopefully, we’ll learn more next year! The process was long and enduring. Coming up with a theme wasn’t as difficult as we made it seem. Each officer toke into account that we should do something fun and exciting, and we did. Day after day, for weeks we spent perfecting our cheers, slowly putting in someone else’s ideas each time. In the end, it was amazing, we tried our best and we may not have won the spirit stick, but we definitely won in another way. Cheyenne will definitely be back next year!

And Liberty High School takes the win for Region 5 Spirit Rally! Congratulations!

Featured Article MAGICAL FOREST Angelene Diego, Legacy On September 29th I volunteered at Opportunity Village to help setup for the Magical Forest. It was really early for me to wake up at 7am because I needed time to get ready, eat breakfast on the way and pick up my friend Emeddie. We arrived there around 8am and it was surprising to see that a few of our members were there to volunteer. Their enthusiasm to take some time out of their day to volunteer was very rewarding for an officer to see. Our group was assigned to painting a whole shed black, in which it was to be used to sell glow in the dark items on opening days. I was very cautious when painting because I knew that paint and clothing do not work well together, but later found that it was impossible to avoid. It was very hot in the shed, but we managed to have the whole shed painted to the ceiling within a matter of about three hours and eight hardworking volunteers from different schools later. After our first job was over, we were yet again assigned to another painting job that involved ―magical‖ goats. Rather than sticking with a single color like the last assignment, we had the chance to work with bright colors to paint the goats that were to be used as props for the tunnel. At the end of the day and 5 hours later, I left Opportunity Village with purple paint on my only pair of shoes and many wonderful pictures that I uploaded to facebook and our club weebly. The next Thursday I talked to my club about this fun volunteer opportunity. I am actually planning on volunteering again and bringing some new members with me so that they can experience the feeling of gratitude at the end of any service.

Club Snapshots Advanced Technologies Academy (A-Tech) This month has flown by. The board did very well getting the club to start. We had our first meeting that went pretty well. We also got to plan the logistics of running a meeting so it would run smoothly. Other than that our president and our two vice presidents have done a great job at planning events such as the Viva Bike Vegas, Greek Food Festival, Opportunity Village, and others that fall in October such as the Las Vegas Cinefest. I really like how we awarded member of the month and hope we continue to recognize individuals that go above and beyond In addition, we collaborated with some other clubs at school such as the Ambassador program in order to help fundraise for their trip. Things we can improve on: getting in touch with our Kiwanis and raising awareness/getting people excited to do service projects. So far we have had plenty of people attending service events this month. In fact one of our members even helped out in planning a service event with the board. In addition we plan on connecting with out Kiwanis club throughout the month of October by attending their Friday meetings when school is not in session. In addition we still want to raise membership and meeting attendance. During this month we had a lot of administration changes and teacher meetings that prevented us from having a meeting on a very important week. Also we are still continuing to recruit members. Our membership dues and applications are due next month on October 11th. As for RTC, we have had three preps in the past month and will continue to have two more up until RTC on October 13th! We have already had one spirit session in which we made posters and signs for RTC ad we will be having another one next month in order to make capes and tutus. A lot of our members are especially excited for Region Training Conference and have signed up to be Sergeant-At-Arms at the event itself. All in all, this month has been very productive and we plan on making it all the more satisfying.
Las Vegas Academy (LVA) Our club has grown as many other clubs do when the year starts, but we are confident in keeping our members busy and close! We start our first service project with a dance set up as an opportunity to show the new members what we do and to also bond as a new club. On the same busy weekend, three service events took place at the same time. At the Food and Wine Festival at Red Rock Casino and Resort, a few of our members helped cater to the patrons and vendors (and also got some free fancy food). Habitat for Humanity really inspired a few of our members after they helped build houses and served their community. As for the art major students, they went to the Horizon East High School and face painted children for no cost. It has been a while since our club has been so busy, but we are aiming for more!

The Member of the Month Congratulations to JOSH TOLENTINO from CHEYENNE Since his junior year, Josh Tolentino has been an active member of the Cheyenne High School’s Key Club. Now a senior, Tolentino is even more active enjoying everything he can. When asked why he joined, he replied: ―Key Club is the place where I was able to step out of my comfort zone. I learned who I was, I started talking to people and made friends, something I never thought I would do.‖ As you can see this international organization not only brings people in a place where they can make friends, but enables each individual to step out of the box that they’ve been stuck in. Tolentino says that Key Club has changed him in a way in which, one thing led to another. It changed his lifestyle. His favorite thing about key club is that not only is everyone friendly and open, but everyone in this club wants to help their community. From the crazy screaming at RTC, to the calm serenading moments helping another being. Josh is one of the brightest key clubbers out there, and well all hope he’ll succeed in whatever he wants to be. The examples he set for other members are of no comparison. ―I love Key Club because of the constant screaming, haha and losing your voice afterwards! This club, this family shaped who I am today and I’m proud to say it.‖ – Josh Tolentino
