I hope you are all off to a great start for this new year. I have loved reading about all of your service events from the holiday season these past few weeks and I am so inspired by everything you have all achieved! I hope that everyone continues to forge new memories and acts of service as the year goes on. I am so proud of everything we have accomplished and cannot wait to see what new and exciting things our division achieves! Happy February Ellies!

Happy Almost-Valentines Day! I hope you all are spending time with the ones you love-even if it’s not a significant other! I’m so incredibly grateful to have a division like you guys. We have only three months left of our term, so let’s finish strong and keep serving! Take these last couple months as an opportunity to meet someone new, make a new friend, change someone’s life. You all have already done so much and I hope you can keep your passion and keep helping our home, schools, and communities. With that, I’d like to finally introduce our Lieutenant Governor-Elect, Abbi Ramos! Please treat my child with love and support as we work through transitioning into the next term. However, this term is still not over, so don’t forget about me ;)!

HELLO DIVISION 35 EAST!

I’m Abbi Ramos and I am honored to have the privilege to serve you all as your next lieutenant governor for the 2023-2024 term! I know that together we can see our ellie family flourish and I truly cannot wait to see what incredible things we accomplish together. Every single member has made every event feel so warm and welcoming and I feel as if I have learned and grown so much throughout this past term. I’m so excited to continue to grow alongside all of you!

To Chloe: Thank you so much for always being so supportive and patient. You really showed me the beauty of our division and inspired me so much. Without you I would have never gone up on that stage and ran for this incredible position. You are an incredible Lt. Governor and I truly hope I can make you proud in this upcoming term. :))

To my Ellies: Thank you all for showing me how wonderful our keyclub family is! You introduced me to this wonderful club and made me want to attend more and become a larger part of this division. I am so grateful for all of the incredible memories we have made together and I couldn’t have done it without your support.

Winter Can Sorting and Packaging

On December 15-16th, Walnut Key Club held the school’s sorting and packaging event; part of our endeavor in this year’s annual canned food drive in collaboration with Diamond Bar High School. Throughout the final weeks leading up to winter break, students and Key Clubbers alike donated cans which were then contributed to families in need for the holidays. In regards to the specifics of the event, Key Clubbers first created different sections; one section for meat, one for fruits, and another for veggies, etc

After the sections were created, Key Clubbers took all donated cans and sorted them into their respective categories. After the cans were sorted, they were then bagged; one bag containing one can from each category. Though the first day of the packaging and sorting took place right after Walnut Key Clubbers finished finals; they pulled through and were able to make quick work of the cans, finishing them up an hour early on the second day. Personally, I hope that through our efforts in donating and sorting cans; we helped bring the holiday spirit to those who needed it.

To get into the holiday spirit, two members of Bonita Key Club worked with Apex, the Bonita Freshmen honors program, to organize a joint service event where volunteers assembled gift bags for Eggleston Youth Center’s foster children. In order to raise money to afford the gifts, jars were placed in different classrooms to collect donations. In total, over $300 was raised in the span of a couple weeks. The money was used to purchase gifts such as squishies, legos, toy cars, and more!

Volunteers spent three hours after school creating holiday cards and assembling the gift bags. Each gift bag contained a handmade card, three small gifts, one large gift, and a candy cane. We were able to make 91 bags in total- more than enough for

Holiday Servathon

Just because it’s winter break doesn’t mean Ellies stop serving their community! During late December, Rowland Key Clubbers participated in our Holiday Servathon, where members were able to contribute to their community from home. Each day of the week, we had events ranging from ornament decorating to writing letters to the St. Jude Research Hospital

“I was glad to see that our members were willing to take the time out of breaks and vacation to participate,” said Natalie Saelao, our club president, “Loved to see the arts and acts of service they completed.” Each member who participated was also entered in a holiday raffle to win a gift basket. Overall, this was a fun holiday event for members to do during their winter break!

January DCM: year in review

Our January DCM was hosted at Cortez park and members gathered to participate in various service events. As a fun way to look back at all the events we held throughout 2022 we brought back some of our service events and created different stations. At one table members made dog toys from old clothes to donate to local shelters. Other tables had sticker papers where members created stickers with friends.

The third table allowed members to create paper cranes, hearts, and frogs to donate to children’s hospitals. “This DCM was so much fun and was a great way to kick off the new year with service.” - Victoria Gonzalez. Overall all members got to enjoy reconnecting with friends from other schools while participating in meaningful acts of service!

Lets meet our member of the month!

What has been your favorite event so far?

My favorite key club event has definitely been the rose floats. I made so many amazing friends, and being able to see all the different stages of building a float was very cool. It was definitely hard sometimes, since the days were really long and the jobs were meticulously done, but overall I am very grateful for the experience.

What new things are you excited to see this year from your club?

For this year I am extremely excited to attend the district convention (hopefully) and see the new board for the club this year.

What inspired you to join keyclub?

I was inspired to join key club my freshmen year because I knew one of my friends was doing it. I only attended a few events though, but this year I tried really hard to attend more events and I realized how many amazing people are in the club. Realizing this I was able to gain a lot of service hours and expand my friend group.
