Elementary carnival

05.03.2024

Diamond Bar HS Raymond Yan

On May 3rd, 2024, Diamond Bar Key Club was invited to the Walnut Elementary Carnival. This event allowed me and my fellow Diamond Bar Key Clubbers to help out at our local Elementary’s big event of the year. Diamond Bar Key Club Secretary Grace Lu reflected on the experience, stating, "I helped out at a game booth involving spinning a wheel and a pin was missing, and a boy asked me isn't that unfair? I agreed and explained the physics behind the missing pin and how it would affect his chance of winning. In turn he grinned back and left. I felt a little awkward, but fulfilled that I explained the rather complicated science behind such a simple game." This little exchange reminded Grace and I why we love being part of Key Club. It's not just about lending a hand, it's about sharing knowledge, curiosity, and making connections with our community.

Sharing a moment for the kids, the volunteers, the adults running the event and others makes everything worth it. It was a reminder of the importance of service and the power of connection. It was a reminder of why we love being part of Key Club.

Making Dog Toys

Around the end of April, and during the season of spring, our key club came up with the idea of starting an event called Making Dog Toys. This event is basically about making dog toys out of clothes that were donated to our club by our club members. The reason why we have agreed to this idea of making dog toys is because dog toys are great for keeping dogs entertained while their owners are busy with their work. Our editor, Khang Le said, “Shelter dogs live in a small space like a cage, and in a stressful environment surrounded by constant noise. So that’s why shelter dogs need toys to help them pass the time.” Key Club President, Addison said, “ This is a good idea. Plus, this can also help the shelter as well . ” Our Key Club members agreed with this idea. Some of our members donated some of their old t-shirts or shirts that they didn't want. So we have started making dog toys out of old t - t-shirts, which took two weeks for us to make

THIS PAST MONTH BONITA HIGH SCHOOL KEY CLUB HELD GENERAL MEETINGS AND ELECTIONS FOR BOARD POSITIONS. THE MEETING WAS HELD TO INFORM CANDIDATES OF THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS AND TO ANSWER ANY POSSIBLE QUESTIONS REGARDING THE ELECTED POSITIONS ALL CANDIDATES WERE REQUIRED TO GO THROUGH A LENGTHY APPLICATION PROCESS, INVOLVING BOTH WRITTEN FORMS AND A ONE-ON-ONE INTERVIEW TO DETERMINE THE BEST CANDIDATES. OUR PREVIOUS PRESIDENT NATALIE CHARETTE SAID, “WE HAVE A LOT OF STRONG CANDIDATES THIS YEAR, I HAVE FAITH IN THE NEW BOARD!” WITH EVERYONE OPTIMISTIC AND EXCITED FOR THE NEW TERM, THE FUTURE OF BHS KEY CLUB IS IN GOOD HANDS.

HOW IS TRANSITIONING TO THE NEW TERM?

“This new term has been filled with a bunch of new events that I’m excited to participate in. So far the new term has been fun for me.”

I am extremely thrilled to be able to say I will be serving as Bonita's Key Club Secretary this term! Both a very welcoming community and past secretary in which I am close with have made my training and preparation easy and enjoyable!

The new term has been great, even though there aren’t too many events from our Club yet. I do think we will have a good start, with great officers, I know my experience will be great. I enjoyed going to the DCMs last term because of all the friends I made, and I can’t wait to go to more in the next term, as well as volunteering at even more events.

The transition to the new term has been great! Even though I am STOMPING into a new position, at a time with lots of studying for AP tests and finals, along with little guidance from the IP board, I have my trusty CoPresident, Faculty Advisor, and my AWESOME Lieutenant-Governor Jackie!! Everyone is doing a great job and I can just feel this term will be one of the best terms to date!

I’m excited and grateful to start my duties as president with an amazing board! Last term officers have helped prepare me for the work and much fun to come. EMMA CANALES, BHS PRESIDENT
