STEMSTERS WORKMAN HIGH SCHOOL

Last month on June 21st, 2024, Workman Key Club worked with STEMsters to host a mini trampoline experiment at Holy Trinity Lutheran Preschool. We first presented the slides provided by STEMsters to the kids. It educated the kids about physics concepts such as elasticity, freefall, energy, and momentum. Moreover, it explained how the kids would be building their mini trampoline. After our quick presentation, we moved onto constructing the mini trampoline.

Overall, this experiment was a success because the kids were able to have fun while learning something new.

Using materials such as popsicle sticks, cloth, rubber bands, and scissors, the kids constructed their trampolines while our members helped them by securing the pieces together with hot glue. Finally, after we finished building the trampolines, we let the kids test the elasticity of their trampolines with marbles. The kids were able to see how elasticity affects the bounce of objects. Our editor, Jimmy Nguyen, says, “Although the experiment was a little stressful because we were working with hot glue around kids, both our members and the kids had a fun time working on this project. I’m excited to see what other experiments we’ll get to work on in the future!”

SPACELANDERS

Walnut Key Club members collaborated with STEMsters, a STEM-focused non-profit organization, on Friday, June 14, at Hacienda Heights STEMsters first involved members in teaching the children about ships that landed astronauts on the moon or Space Landers. Key Clubbers also provided fill-in-the-blank worksheets and helped present colorful lessons that taught the children the science behind the various items they would create. “Working on the Space Landers task, I thought that it was a fun approach towards teaching science and i i ” bi l d K l L id “The

“It felt rewarding watching the kids make their Space Landers," cabinet leader Elaine Zhu said. "I enjoyed volunteering with my friends and sparking the students' interests in STEM." After the kids finished their projects, the boxes were dropped from a height, and whichever box survived with the most marshmallows would win. Ultimately, working alongside STEM

Ellies then helped guide and direct the main event, the arts and crafts lesson, showing the children how to design their own Space Landers with boxes. They offered materials such as cardboard, paper, tape, cups, straws and marshmallows, which served as the astronauts.

SUMMER BEEN SUMMER

BEEN SO FAR??? SO FAR???

Summer has gone by so quickly!

I’ve gone on many vacations such as going to New York, New Jersey, Washington D.C, and Canada, which was a fun experience. In a few weeks, I will be out camping for my last summer vacation of this year!

My summer has not been relaxing so far because I don’t like to relax, but instead, I like to challenge myself by trying to do new things for my education or to keep me busy. For example, I’m learning how to speak French, and that’s doing well. Also, I’ve been practicing making cakes and pastries. As well as all that, I’ve been working in my uncle’s taco shop and playing video games at night

“It has been a fulfilling summer so far! I’ve been going to the gym at least three times a week and have learned to play pickleball. It was easy to pick up but competitive to play with friends while burning a lot of calories. I also went to Raging Waters for the first time in almost two decades, riding slides and swimming in the wave pool just like I did when I was a kid. Overall, this summer has been a wonderful blend of fun and fitness, leaving me feeling rejuvenated and happy.”

“This summer, I've been balancing a few different activities. On the academic side, I've been tackling summer school chemistry. In my free time, I've been indulging in some self-care by doing my nails. It’s a fun way to relax and get creative with different colors and designs. Plus, it’s nice to have a little bit of pampering amidst all the studying. Apart from that, I’ve been spending quality time with my friends. We’ve been trying to make the most of the summer by hanging out, going to the mall, and enjoying each other's company. It’s been great to have that balance between work and play, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the summer.”

“So far, summer has been really surprising and busy after trying new things
