Where did the time go?! Current officers - take time to reflect on your personal and club achievements this year. Thank you for your dedication to Key Club and service this year! For those of you interested in running for a club position, please contact your club officers to receive more information. For the underclassmen, go for the GOLD and run for a position! If I could go back in time, I would have ran for a club position my freshman year. Also, this is the time where you should think about attending District Convention. December DCM/OCTC DIANA TAI Last week I went to the December DCM and Officer Training Conference. It was so much fun getting together with all the D42E narwhals and share our experiences as board members of our school's key club. It was especially helpful because I definitely plan on running for a position this coming term. Also the skits were a joy and very informational. A few of our freshmen went as well, and it was great to see that they were so motivated and passionate about giving to the community!

Newbury Park Manna Food Bank

LAUREN HELLER Volunteering at the Manna Food Bank of Conejo Valley opened my eyes once again to how lucky I am this holiday season. Seeing all the food that others donated was encouraging – the whole community joined together to help those in need. My favorite part of this event was seeing the families receive their food – their faces would light up and it was great to know that everyone could have a happy Thanksgiving. CELESTINE SUN On November 27, I volunteered at the Manna Food Bank in Thousand Oaks. It was a great opportunity to help those that may not have the luxuries that we do. We helped with packing and organizing the food that would later be set out for the families. Overall, it was a great opportunity to help an organization that depends on donations and volunteers “To feed hungry people in the Conejo Valley.” JULIANNA HELLER The Manna Food Drive was such a great opportunity to help out the community this holiday season. Seeing all the food that was donated and the other people who volunteered made me proud to be part of a town who gave back. Also, I had a great time connecting with the volunteer workers and key clubbers. It was a wonderful way to prepare for Thanksgiv-

Faculty Gift Wrapping Fundraiser LAURA CRUZ-ALBRECHT This year our Key Club is doing a faculty gift wrapping event to fundraise money for the ELIMINATE project. Apart from helping to organize it, this week I also helped wrap several of the gifts that were brought in by teachers to be wrapped. I really enjoyed participating in this event, a combination of fundraising and service, because not only do I personally enjoy wrapping gifts and of course tying bows, but I was also happy to know that my efforts were helping teachers from my own school as well as ultimately people in other countries through the donations we will make to ELIMINATE. The event was also an enriching reiteration of the value of teamwork, as I worked alongside fellow Key Clubbers, serving and getting into the holiday spirit. We still have one week left of our faculty gift wrapping event, and it is my hope that we get even more gifts to wrap and deliver next week as we did this week. I continue to be overjoyed that this event is actually taking place right now, and look forward to seeing the end results.

Oak Park Volunteering at the Teen Club CARLO CRUZ-ALBRECHT Last Friday I volunteered at the Medea Creek Teen Center in which I spent two hours of fun with the middle school students. The Teen Center is a new addition of Medea Creek as of this year and it was awesome to be able to explore the new experience of working with kids. I helped the staff supervise the kids but more importantly I created a joyful afternoon for the students. From playing a creative game of dodgeball to racing through card games, the involvement was enjoyable for me and also fun for the students to get a chance to interact with older students. It was a new experience to be looked up at by younger people and to be able to share my past experiences in middle school with them. In fact, after having volunteered there twice, I have considered continuing to offer my time there on a weekly basis, so as to better develop my relationship with the students and, aside from volunteering, also become a better leader.

The Samaritan Center KATIE DIZON On December 5, 2013, I volunteered at the Samaritan Center, which was located next to Madera Elementary School. I, along with a few other people, worked to prepare and serve dinner to those who were in need or were less fortunate. I did numerous tasks such as bringing food to the kitchen, setting the tables, and even serving food to people! We served sloppy joe sandwiches, salad, casserole, and beans. For dessert, we passed out chocolate chip cookies. I was in charge of making the sloppy joe sandwiches, which was a bit messy. It was so much fun because the people I was working with (including myself) were singing the entire time while serving food, making the people who had come for dinner smile and laugh! Being at the Samaritan Center made me feel good because I knew I had given something back to those in need, just in time for the holidays.

Nickelodeon HALO Awards 2013 PAOLO RECTO On November 17th, select Key Club members in the Cali-Nev-Ha District were invited to attend the Nickelodeon HALO Awards 2013 to represent Key Club International. HALO stands for Helping And Leading Others. I was lucky enough to be one of those sixty members! The event was televised on Nickelodeon and was hosted by Nick Cannon, Kevin Jonas and Jennette McCurdy. Being in Key Club for the past four years, this event was probably one of the most exciting events for me. The award show was recognizing four honorees that showed dedication and passion in a certain area that benefitted the communities they lived in. The honorees were teenagers just like us and seeing them make such huge impacts in their communities encouraged me to continue to go out in our community and “HALO” everywhere. If you missed the awards show on television, you can log on to http:// www.teennick.com/videos/halo-awards-videos to watch video clips of the happening at the event.

Santa Susana Key Club Week DANA BROUGH From November 4 to November 8, the Santa Susana Narwhals celebrated Key Club Week by having an activity on each day of the week. On Monday, we started a Spirit Chain Fundraiser where a person could pay 25 cents for one paper chain; the class with the longest chain would have the most spirit! This lasted the entire week. On Tuesday, we had a fundraiser at Red’s BBQ to raise money for the Eliminate Project and help support our Kiwanians. We also showed appreciation towards our Kiwanians on Wednesday by wearing gold and thanking everyone who supports Key Club. On Thursday, we had our Spirit Day. Everyone wore the new Key Club shirts and participated in “How do you feel?!” cheers! Finally, on Friday, it was Bring a Friend to Key Club Day. Lots of people brought in friends who were not in Key Club before, and we spread the word about Key Club on campus.
