Letter From The Lieutenant Governor

What’s Poppin Narwhals?! I hope all of your summers have been going great so far! The heat is doubling down every day so make sure to stay cool and hydrated. Moving on, I would like to thank you all for attending the our Avengers Assemble August DCM! Throughout your busy schedules and summer break, the fact that you take time for Key Club is always greatly appreciated. There were plenty of great presentations to learn from and I hope you all took something away from each of them.

Now that we are done with OTC, we are hopefully going back to events in person starting with our Avengers Assemble August DCM! Check your emails and the Division Instagram for more details on that but get excited!!

Make sure to mark your calendars for the next big event, RTC or Region Training Conference! We are set to have RTC on September 25th, 2021 but the time and venue is still TBD. Stay tuned for more details. We are also going to be announcing the service project for August very soon so make sure you participate in that to rack up those service hours! With that being said, I hope you all stay safe, get vaccinated as soon as possible, and enjoy the rest of your summer!

Swimming in Service, Neharika Logeshwaran Lieutenant Governor 2021-2022 D42E | R10 | CNH District

Hey Narwhals! I hope everyone has had an amazing start to their school year! First and foremost, I’d like to thank all of the new members of Key Club who have joined this school year and a special thanks to each individual club’s board members. Without them, Key Club would just not be the same. Some special events to look out for is the November DCM on September 25th from 11:00 - 3:30 pm. I am also ecstatic to share some of the amazing service projects I’ve seen in each of our division’s Key Clubs. Our community is stronger each and every day because of all of the service done by our amazing narwhals. With that, I’d like to remind everyone to stay safe, get vaccinated, and continue to be the amazing narwhals that you all are! Westlake Key Club Hosts a Bundt Cake Fundraiser D42E - Westlake Key Club Editor, Emmy Adler

One of the many fundraisers that we hosted during September was a bundt cake sale! To raise money for American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, we sold bundt cakes after school! This event occurred on Friday, September 17th, from 2 p.m. to 4p.m. in front of Westlake High School. Members had to advertise the bundt cake pre-orders, and people could pre-order bundt cakes via a google form and pick them up the following day. Bundt cakes that were not picked up were sold at Relay Westlake Infographic to promote the fundraiser! ^ for Life. One of our members retrieved the bundt cakes from our local Nothing Bundt Cakes store, and each bundt cake cost $6.99. Luckily, bundt cakes are very popular and we were able to raise a significant amount of money for American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

Another one of our numerous fundraisers was our Sharky’s fundraiser for March of Dimes. This fundraiser took place on Tuesday, September 28th, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at our local Sharky’s at the Janss Marketplace, (265 N Moorpark Rd, Thousand Oaks, CA, 91360). Members had to advertise the event, and 20% of the proceeds earned during the specified time would be donated to March of Dimes! People could dine in, get take out, or order online using the code: “March of Dimes” for the money to be donated. Restaurant fundraisers like this one are usually very successful, so we will continue to have them in the future!

Oak Park Key Club Volunteers at the Conejo Valley Botanical Gardens! D42E - Oak Park Key Club Editor, Emily Roesnthal

In our most recent meeting, we introduced a new service project. The service project consisted of making dog toys for the Agoura Animal Shelter. It was a super fun project, because we got to cut up fabric and braid it to make a toy. It was super informational as well, because it gave me a new project to do at home to give to my own dogs as well. Some people had difficulty braiding, or didn’t know how to braid, so we held a braid teaching station in the corner of the room. Many kids, however, were proficient in braiding, and were able to make multiple toys for the animals in the shelter. Many told us that they were going to make more at home and bring it to our next meeting. Other service projects that we have done so far include Operation Gratitude, where we wrote letters to those who are currently serving. So far, our service projects have been a success.

Simi Valley High Key Club Participates in Simi Serve D42E - Westlake High School Editor, Jesna Thomas

On September 11, 2021 Simi Serve provided Key Club members with an amazing service opportunity. This was a time specific event that took place in Lemon Park from 10 am to 1 pm. During this service opportunity, they asked for donations such as pencils, pens, markers, easers, and other school supplies. This is a great opportunity for Key Club members to help out their community while still following Covid safety. Furthermore, the board members decided to continue partnering with Simiserve for service projects and have an upcoming service project ready. It will be related to the Samaritan center and take place around the end of October or beginning of November.
