Letter From The Lieutenant Governor

What’s Poppin Narwhals?! I hope all of your summers have been going great so far! The heat is doubling down every day so make sure to stay cool and hydrated. Moving on, I would like to thank you all for attending the our Avengers Assemble August DCM! Throughout your busy schedules and summer break, the fact that you take time for Key Club is always greatly appreciated. There were plenty of great presentations to learn from and I hope you all took something away from each of them.

Now that we are done with OTC, we are hopefully going back to events in person starting with our Avengers Assemble August DCM! Check your emails and the Division Instagram for more details on that but get excited!!

Make sure to mark your calendars for the next big event, RTC or Region Training Conference! We are set to have RTC on September 25th, 2021 but the time and venue is still TBD. Stay tuned for more details. We are also going to be announcing the service project for August very soon so make sure you participate in that to rack up those service hours! With that being said, I hope you all stay safe, get vaccinated as soon as possible, and enjoy the rest of your summer!

Westlake Key Club Hosts a UNICEF Fundraiser! D42E - Westlake Key Club Editor, Emmy Adler

Since the beginning of October, our Key club chapter has participated in the UNICEF Trick or Treat Fundraiser! This fundraiser was dedicated to raising money for Haitians who were impacted by the recent natural disasters and Covid-19. We asked members to come up with ideas of what we could do to raise money. Some ideas consisted of bake sales, or selling DIY products. We eventually decided to make beaded keychains and sell them at the end of the year! We had a keychain making session on Sunday, October 24, from 2:30 to 4:00 in Oakbrook Neighborhood Park. It was extremely meaningful to be making these key chains for such an important cause, and we hope to make a good profit from them to donate at the end of the year!

Royal Key Club Has A Successful Social! D42E - Royal High School Editor, Ella McCrossan The board of Royal High School’s Key Club planned a club social for October 16th at 10:00AM. Since the Key Club is very large, they were hoping for a large turnout, and the club did not disappoint! About 25 people came to attend the social event, which is a pretty amazing number! The first two hours were spent at Lemon Park, a large park in Simi Valley. There, attendees had two service options they could choose between. The first option was to help clean up trash in the park using the trash grabbers that the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District was kind enough to let the Key Club borrow. The other option was to help put together bags for Simi Serve that will be distributed to teachers to show thanks. Both projects went very well, and a lot of progress was made! After the service projects, the group walked over to the Regal Plaza. There, the students participated in the club’s Yogurtland Fundraiser, which lasted all of October 16th. With that, the social ended. The board was very happy with the success of the event and can’t wait for the next social!

Newbury Park Key Club Has A Successful Club Rush! D42E - Oak Park Key Club Editor, Grace Younes

Hey Narwhals! I’m Grace Younes and I am an editor for the Key Club at Newbury Park High School! Every year, we hold a special event at lunch called “Club Rush.” All the clubs at our high school set up a table and promote the interesting aspects of their club. Of course, the Newbury Park Key Club was eager to participate. We set up our table and brought in all sorts of people to inform them about Key Club and hopefully get their contact information so they can know when and where we meet! If your school doesn’t do this already, I suggest asking the people running your school if it is a possibility to start it up. Overall, it was successful, with about 40 people signing up just during that one lunch period.

Oak Park Hosts a UNICEF Fundraiser! D42E - Oak Park High School Editor, Emily Rosenthal This past month, we raised 186 dollars in coins for UNICEF. UNICEF, also known as the United Nations Children's Fund, is a United Nations agency responsible for providing humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide. The agency is among the most widespread and recognizable social welfare organizations in the world, with a presence in 192 countries and territories. Our donations will help provide children around the world with healthcare, clean water, sound nutrition, education, protection from abuse and exploitation, and emergency assistance in times of crisis. This past month of service really shows how easy it is to raise money for a good cause. All people had to do is bring in their spare change, and we raised over eighty-five dollars just by doing that. The power of change lies in us, and we are so happy that Key Club really allows us to do good for this world, and help others who need it the most. This experience was truly an eye-opener, and I’m so thankful for everyone who donated their spare change to such an amazing cause.
