Division 42 East Narwhals April Edition

April 2017 Featuring -Introduction -Club Reports -DCON 2017

Welcome Narwhal Nation! To the 2017-2018 CNH Key Club Term! Greetings Narwhals! My name is Mehul Chowdarapu and I will be serving as Lieutenant Governor for Division 42 East for the 2017-2018 term! I am unbelievably excited to work with every single one of you, and I can’t wait to see all of your beautiful faces at all the service projects, division events, and region events that this year will contain. The past term has consisted of only amazing and cherished memories, and it has been my honor to see our division blossom like never before! As Lieutenant Governor, my job will be to serve alongside this division, as well as to serve as a liaison between the CNH District and Division 42 East. My main goal this term, will be to focus around service. In the future, I will be hosting many division service projects, ranging from lei making, making food for the homeless, and so much more! But I won’t be able to do any of this without all of your support! Division 42 East will always have my passion and heart, but I need all of you to come and participate at our division events. Bee more involved! Bee engaging! Bee a Key Clubber!

Throughout this term, I will also be working very close with our Presidents to ensure that you receive the optimum Key Club experience and to make sure that we can represent the CNH District proudly! To do this, we need to be punctual! We have to ensure early dues payment during dues season, articles and visuals are submitted to the Division News Editor, and make sure that our monthly MRFs are submitted on time! And of course, raising over $2000 for PTP will be one of our big goals this year! With all of this in mind, I hope that we will make this year the greatest year in Division 42 East history!

Club Updates Come check out what our clubs are doing! This month, Santa Susana Key Club has been preparing for

DCON. We had the amazing opportunity to send 25 members! During which our former Vice President Mehul Chowdarapu was awarded Distinguished Vice President. Our club was recognized as Club of the Year. We held bowling, Otter Pop and henna fundraisers to raise money for senior cords and badges for the new board. We held interviews and chose our new club chairs for this term. Upcoming events include elementary school carnivals and Key Leader. We are happy to say that we are

able to send 5 members to Key Leader. SSHS Narwhals can't wait to see what next month has in store for us! - Grace Payne (Santa Susana) So for this past month, Oak Park has volunteered at the Great Race of Agoura helping with water stations, done in meeting service projects such as writing letters to troops, had seven members attend DCON and has been training the newly elected board for the transition. For upcoming events we have the annual Easter Egg Hunt event, our Chipotle fundraiser planned for May 1st, Key Leader, and an end of the year party. - Cheyanne Taylor and Sophia Tsai (Oak Park)

In March, we had new officers! That meant training and getting to know them, and we became friends pretty quickly. Only 3 of the new officers could make it to banquet but 9 members came instead and that was what made it amazing. After that was the March DCM, which was the Olympic DCM with Kiwins and D42W. Seemed like everyone had a blast and that some people got pied. - Lana Tran (Royal)

DCON 2017 An end to an amazing year!

DCON Experiences DCON 2017 was absolutely grand. It was great meeting people from all over the district. Each Key Clubber I met had endless energy, kindness, and passion. It was fun being surrounded by people who truly love Key Club and most importantly, service. There were numerous educational workshops and sessions that any member could attend throughout the weekend. It was bittersweet to watch LTG Justin retire, but great to see LTG Mehul installed. I want to thank all the retired officers in D42E for their hard work throughout the 2016-2017 term. D42E couldn't have been any luckier. The Cali-Nev-Ha district is truly something special, and I truly recommend any member to go next year. - Samantha Lee

District Convention, for me, was once more a great experience. Unlike previous years, this year I decided to apply to CNH Social Media team and it changed my experience of DCON. At first I thought accepting this job would hurt my experience and mean I won't be able to enjoy it to the fullest, however I was wrong. Despite having certain responsibilities, I was able to enjoy most of DCON with my friends how I wanted. Once more for the third time I found myself surrounded in friends who I could call family and enjoyed a weekend getting closer with these people. Aside from that my duties as CNH Photographer was fun in seeing my photos at the DCON review video at the end and to have meet other photographers who shared in my passion. In the end I had a flashback of all the memories I've made in Key Club over my 4 years and it was amazing to finally look back and see all that I had done. Thank you Key Club for all those memories and hopefully others will get to have the same experience as I. - Andrew Kang

Thank you for tuning in! BEE more involved! The best way for you to get the most out of your Key Club experience is simple! Be active within the club you serve, as well as the division you serve! There are many forms of being involved including: attending Key Club/Kiwanis events, going to Key Club meetings, serving at local volunteering events, getting to know your Kiwanis/Key Club members, serving as an officer on a board, and so much more!

As we are turning over a new iceberg in our Key Club journey, there is so much for everyone to learn and gain. It is important that we continue to serve our homes, schools, and community, and to make sure that we remain active within our Key Club journeys, as we are ready to take on another year full of spirit, leadership, and most of all service! I am so honored that I will be serving you as your Lieutenant Governor for the next year, and know that I will never give up on any of you. I will always be here for you, Whether you have any questions, concerns, or just need someone to talk to, I will always be here. I love you all with all my heart and I am looking forward to an amazing year! - Mehul Chowdarapu
