Letter From The Lieutenant Governor

What’s Poppin Narwhals?! I hope all of your summers have been going great so far! The heat is doubling down every day so make sure to stay cool and hydrated. Moving on, I would like to thank you all for attending the our Avengers Assemble August DCM! Throughout your busy schedules and summer break, the fact that you take time for Key Club is always greatly appreciated. There were plenty of great presentations to learn from and I hope you all took something away from each of them.

Now that we are done with OTC, we are hopefully going back to events in person starting with our Avengers Assemble August DCM! Check your emails and the Division Instagram for more details on that but get excited!!

Make sure to mark your calendars for the next big event, RTC or Region Training Conference! We are set to have RTC on September 25th, 2021 but the time and venue is still TBD. Stay tuned for more details. We are also going to be announcing the service project for August very soon so make sure you participate in that to rack up those service hours! With that being said, I hope you all stay safe, get vaccinated as soon as possible, and enjoy the rest of your summer!

Swimming in Service, Neharika Logeshwaran Lieutenant Governor 2021-2022 D42E | R10 | CNH District

Hey Narwhals! I hope everyone has had an amazing start to their school year! First and foremost, I’d like to thank all of the new members of Key Club who have joined this school year and a special thanks to each individual club’s board members. Without them, Key Club would just not be the same. Some special events to look out for is a-RTC and the September DCM on September 25th from 11:00 - 3:30 pm. I am also ecstatic to share some of the amazing service projects I’ve seen in each of our division’s Key Clubs. Our community is stronger each and every day because of all of the service done by our amazing narwhals. With that, I’d like to remind everyone to stay safe, get vaccinated, and continue to be the amazing narwhals that you all are! 2021 Fall News! D42E ^ Royal High’s Key Club Graphic

As the school year has begun, many clubs have met in person and introduced the new board that was elected the previous year! To the left, we have some graphics advertising some of our amazing Narwhal’s first club meetings this year. Some clubs were even able to take a group photo!

While an online school year may have held us back in the past, Key Club is back better and stronger than ever!

Simi Valley Key Club Writes Letters to Cancer Patients! D42E - Simi Valley High School Web Editor, Jesna Thomas Cancer Kids First, revolves around art-based volunteering. Cancer Kids First sends handmade or E-cards made by volunteers to send out to cancer hospitals. Cancer Kids First also has other opportunities that can be found on their website, but since we were sharing art-based service opportunities, we highlighted Cancer Kids First's art team.

The best part of these service opportunities is that these projects are something Key Club members could easily do from their own homes, helping them stay safe from Covid yet still create a difference by providing a smile to others who need it the most. It also has no deadline, so they can continue using these websites as resources to help out their community at their own time and pace.

Santa Susana Key Club Volunteers at the Conejo Valley Botanical Gardens! D42E - Santa Susana Key Club Editor, Ryan Hu Over the course of July, most of our board, as well as a handful of our members, went to the Conejo Valley Botanical Garden as part of a service project. We met at the garden in the morning at 9, and assisted in emptying and replacing crayfish traps. Members handled crayfish with gloves, and recorded the length and gender of each crayfish. Later on, the crayfish were weighed on scales. We used the data collected over the month to monitor the size of the crayfish population. The goal of the project was to slowly reduce the number of crayfish through trapping and isolating portions of their habitat. On another occasion, members came in on a separate day to paint the donation box in front of the botanical garden. Previously members had also painted boards for the bird cage. Members went with a bright and cute design that would appeal to kids because the donation box would be placed in the Children’s Adventure Garden area.

Westlake Key Club Hosts Fundraiser at Sharky’s! D42E - Westlake High School Editor/Publicist, Emmy Adler

Another restaurant fundraiser we hosted was at our local Sharky’s, at 111 S. Westlake Blvd, Westlake Village, California, 91361. This event spanned the whole day of Friday, July 30th. People could order online with the code: WHS KEY CLUB, or order in person and present our flyer, and 20% of sales would benefit the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP). Members were urged to spread information regarding this event by telling friends and family and posting of the event on their social media. The Pediatric Trauma Program is an organization connected to the Cal-Nev-Ha Kiwanis foundation. It is dedicated to improving children's lives by providing support to those affected by pediatric trauma by creating projects and community outreach events and giving grants to hospitals to help remedy these issues.
