Letter from the Editor

Hi Narwhals! It’s Sophia and welcome to my second newsletter. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it to OTC. However, I hope that everyone who attended learned a lot about how to become better Key Club members and officers and also had a great time. I also hope that everyone is having a great summer so far. Enjoy the newsletter!

Several members of our Key Club volunteered their summertime at the Ventura County Rescue Mission on June 13th. First, the volunteers set up tables and glasses of water. Then, the they prepare the food for people in rehabilitation and the homeless population of the area. Later on, they serve the plates of food directly to the visitors, and as people leave, they clean up. It is truly a magnificent feeling when someone in need is able to smile over a warm meal, which is what makes returning to volunteer at the Rescue Mission each month such a vital and cherished addition to our club’s program. Two wonderful members of our Key Club helped the organization Meals on Wheels. This program specializes in delivering fresh meals to those who cannot not purchase or prepare meals themselves. Our President Lizbeth Fernandez volunteered and offered her input: “Meals on Wheels never ceases to disappoint me. It is an organization that enables anyone to help make other people’s lives easier and put a smile on their faces. The people we help are sincerely grateful and receiving their thanks brightens up my day. Not only is Meals on Wheels a valuable experience, but it’s also something that serves to cultivate our sense of community.” Jade Li | Editor

For the month of June, Simi participated in a service project created by Santa Su. We helped create a kit that consists of silly puddies, feathers, picture frames and notes. It was really fun! We also hope to have an officer meeting soon to plan out for the upcoming school year!

Our members and officers had a great time learning more about the club at the OTC. They had a great time getting to know other Key Club members!

I went to Officer Training Conference this year as an officer looking for even more ways to serve my home, school, and community and ultimately make even more friends and memories. Being put on the spot and having to do a cheer battle was super fun and got the whole narwhal family talking and collaborating. Even though we didn't win at that moment, it was great to see the whole narwhal bunch cheer Stacy on in the dance battle when we won the alOhaTC surfboard. I also learned a lot about KIWIN'S, although I will admit that there are some things that still confuse me about the differences and similarities between them and us. All in all, it was a great day and I'm glad that I was able to go. - Amanda Lurey

At OTC, the atmosphere was very exciting. The event was themed on Hawaii, with paper pineapples, pineapple pizza, leis, and a Hawaiian photo booth. Other than the big general meeting, everyone separated into their roles in Key Club, and officers would report to their workshops. In the last collective meeting, there was a dance battle that followed the spirit battle, where D42E won! Woohoo! OTC was very fun, and I would recommend Key Club events like this to all members. - Evan Kong
