Letter from the Editor

Hi Narwhals! My name is Sophia and I am a rising senior at Agoura High School. Some of my interests are tennis, traveling, and volunteering. I’m looking forward to serving as the district news editor for the 2018-2019 term. I hope to get to know all of you and to become much more involved in Key Club over the course of this term. I hope everyone has a great summer and enjoy the newsletter!

Hello Narwhals! Summer is here and that means more free time for fun and service! This is a great time to get all your service in and start building your clubs before the school year! Take your free time to go serve your community. This summer there is going to be a lot in store for us so be on the lookout for fun events like a July Beach DCM! We are currently at 547 service hours and $840 raised for PTP, so keep going for our goals! See you all soon at OTC where our June DCM is held at!

For the month of May, we had our final meeting for the school year where Key Clubbers got to enjoy some cookies and heard final updates! We also set up a booth in our school’s interact club’s “Peace Pole Inauguration” where we fundraised for PTP by selling wish bracelets that our club officers made ourselves! We raised a total of $38!

Food Forward is an excellent program that combats hunger by collecting fresh produce from various farmers markets. At around 1:00 when many fruit/bread/vegetable stands are closing down, this program goes around to collect spare produce. They box the produce up and it gets distributed to homeless people, veterans, and other people in need. I felt really blessed to help volunteer with this program because all of the people were so kind and it felt like a real community. The produce stands are very generous and often will give up to 5 boxes full of apples, greens, or oranges.

S Moorpark had so much fun at the DCM! We had a great time making dog toys and watching the presidents get pies thrown in their faces. We were also happy to meet all of the new DLT members. We are looking forward to a great term next year!

A few members from our club also volunteered at CIF prelims. Our president Kristin Ulan volunteered and said that she moved numbers and blocks to events where they were needed while cheering people on. This volunteer experience helped our members learn more about how a track meet functions and what it takes to run smoothly. Moorpark Key Club members also participated at Flory Academy’s Einstein and Dine fundraiser. Elyse Geralde helped at this event and said that it was held at Rancho De Las Palmas and it raised money for Flory’s science and math programs. She also said that since it was held on May 4, people were dressed as Star Wars characters. Elyse said that there were auctions and gift baskets as well as dinner and dancing. This event allowed Key Club members to serve their community and have fun at the same time.
