W ELCOME! New Term, Same Great Division!

DCON 2016 Guardians of Service!

WELCOME NARWHAL NATION! Let's make the 2016-2017 the best Division 42 East has ever seen! Greetings. Narwhals! My name is Justin Kawaguchi and I am so honored to have the privilege of serving as your Lieutenant Governor for the 2016-2017

1. Maintain a strong member base and number of service events 2. Raise $1,750 for Fall Rally this year to go towards supporting the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) 3. Increase awareness of the Kiwanis Family and branch out to connect with other Kiwanis SLPs. Looking to the future, I cannot wait to see what amazing work Division 42 East accomplishes. I hope to be able to attend as many events as possible this upcoming year and connect with members on a personal as well as professional level!

Key Club term! This year is sure to be one of smiles, laughter and life-long memories. Join me as we strive to serve our homes, schools, and communities! As Lieutenant Governor, my first and foremost priority will always be serving the members of Division 42 East to the best of my abilities! In the past, I have served as Division Executive Assistant (2013-2014), Newbury Park High School Treasurer (2013-2014), and Newbury Park High School Vice President. The reason why i chose to join the Kiwanis Family is because I was able to witness first hand the amazing work 2 WEBSITE.COM/MAGAZINE

that a passion for service can accomplish; being able to work and charter several Builders Clubs in the Conejo Valley area was a truly inspiring process for the board members of Newbury Park High School and myself and I hope to share that passion with all Narwhals! My three initiatives while serving as Lieutenant Governor for the 2016-2017 term will be:

Division 42 East Key Club Banquet

Key Club One Day Service Project

On March 26th, Key Clubbers from all over the division gathered to celebrate the end to yet another great year. The banquet was 1920's themed, so many dress accordingly. There was entertainment, and lots of fun. Everyone had a great time. - Natalie Ungermann

On April 2, I participated in the local One Day service project led by the Kiwanis Foundation of Thousand Oaks. We were tasked with painting over graffiti on walls inside tunnels. I really enjoyed painting the walls because I see cleaning

up graffiti as one of the cliche volunteering events so it was awesome that I actually got to partake in it. The tunnels were dark and I could feel the cool, moist air all around me. Outside, the sun shone fiercely and made all of us perspire as we diligently painted over the graffiti. Overall, One Day was a rewarding experience and I had a fun time giving back to the community. Soup Kitchen Working at the Soup Kitchen to feed the homeless to me was one of the most amazing and sentimental events that I have ever participated in. This event was held at the Chinese Church and our job was not only to serve food to the homeless, but also to keep them company as well as we served them. This event was a very fun experience for me because while we served them we talked to them, they told us stories about their lives and past experiences and we also shared many laughs as well.
