Editor’s Note

Hello Narwhals! I’m so excited for this month, you have NO idea. November is definitely my favorite month of the year! It’s the month of the Championship Cross Country season, the month of perfect weather (in my opinion), the month of Thanksgiving, and the month of FALL RALLY!!! Oh yeah, and my birthday but that’s not as exciting. I hope all the clubs were able to make the early bird deadline! Keep recruiting members although the club rush fervor has passed! It’s so important to constantly be building up your club! Also, I can’t wait to see how great our Divsion has done with PTP fundraising! Swimming in Service,

Sally Deng

Hello, Division 42 East! These months have been busy, and I hope you’ve been a part of it! The next few months are going to be the peak of the year. These events include Fall Rally, Rose Float Decorating, CTC, elections, and more! The journey is more than half way over. I hope to have all of you participate even more now than ever! This month we had RTC, which was a blast! I hope that all of you are inspired to become the future leaders of the world. As your Lt. Governor, I want to change the world with service and happy spirits. We can do so by trick or treating with Unicef this month! Let’s change the world one step at a time! Swimming in service,

Joseph Ko

Royal WAG AND WALK by Kelley Lam Royal High School participated in the annual Wag and Walk! We had a lot of volunteers participate and it was a lot of fun! It was a great way to help the Animal Rescue and their organization! The volunteers helped direct people and helped them with the sign in booth. They also helped out with the dogs and they cheered the people on as they walked by with their dogs. Afterwards they helped out with clean up. It was a good day and it was a great way to meet new people and help our community!

Thousand Oaks WALK TO END POVERTY by Sara Wilson The Thousand Oaks Kiwanis supported our local Walk to End Poverty by making a pancake breakfast and helping sign in volunteers. I was on orange juice making duty. It was a bright and warm morning, and though the turn out wasn’t humongous, everyone was very enthusiastic to be walking. I enjoy working alongside Kiwanians who share my love to serve, and who have so much to teach me about giving to others.

Santa Susana BOWLING FUNDRAISER by Carly Balster The bowling fundraiser at Brunswick was a lot of fun! Key Clubbers from Moorpark, Santa Susana, and Royal High all met up on September 27th. There was a lot of spirit and the games were very competitive! One of the cooler parts of the whole night was when we were asked how we felt over the intercom. Some Brunswick-goers that weren’t part of Key club definitely got an interesting show

Oak Park THE T.O. PARADE

by Matt Chen

This Saturday I helped volunteer at the TO parade. During this event, I directed floats, equestrian units, and bands to their designated end destination for disbandment. I also helped people get off their parade floats and directed them towards shuttles to take them to the Lakes. This event was really fun because it was cool to see all the floats and bands drive through the street. Not only did I get to help, but also got to watch the parade with fellow key clubbers.

Moorpark D42 LTG INSTALLATION by Kaitlin Chau

A while back, I was given the amazing opportunity to attend the installation of the new Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor, Mr. Robert Engler. I was able to meet and interact with the amazing adults of Kiwanis. They are kind and hardworking people who care about the wellness of the community. I was also able to become familiar with our division’s Lieutenant Governor, Joseph Ko. Attending this installation showed me that Kiwanis isn’t just a great non profit organization; they are also a big and loving family. As a Key Club member, I believe it is very important to be able to get to talk to the Kiwanians, who set an example of being a model citizen for us to strive towards. All in all, the installation was great event. Congratulations, Mr. Robert Engler, and we wish you the best of luck with your upcoming term.

I recently had the opportunity to volunteer at a comedy night at West Studios in Simi Valley. I went thinking that I would set up some chairs, watch a show, clean up, and leave. However, as it turned out, this was no ordinary comedy night. The real purpose of the event was to support an organization that raises money to help women in Nepal that have escaped human trafficking learn how to make jewelry to support themselves, and pay for their education and their children’s education. Not only did I have a wonderful time setting up for this event and running the “behind the scenes” jobs with my fellow friends from Key Club, but I also helped my community, and people across the world. Interacting with the members of the organization and other Key Club members, while also making a difference, was a rewarding experience and provided a joy that can only be felt through helping others.

COMEDY NIGHT by Spencer Wroobel

My first act of volunteering for Key Club was at a local elementary school Library. I just joined this year, so I didn’t know many people or how the process went down. I always asked lots of questions because I wanted to make sure I didn’t mess up and be late or go to the wrong place. But I would say my experience working at the library was so much fun for me. I was nervous at first to know who I was meeting because I am pretty shy and don’t speak up much. But once I got there I realized how welcome I was and I felt at home right away. I think going to work with other members gave me a great idea of what Key Club is all about and how well we work together. My experience collaborating with others and helping the librarian was amazing, I loved it a lot and hope to do it more often!

Promoting TOHS Key Club was an amazing experience where all members got to recruit new members! It was very impressive how people were interested in joining to do community service. Their energetic answers to be part of Key Club made all of us happy. It was really nice to talk to people who share interests. - Irene Jang This year’s first TOHS Key Club meeting was a success! Along with previous members from last year, many freshmen and sophomores showed up, securing our member population for the club. Everyone was so excited to be there at the first meeting, which was efficient and organized thanks to our fantastic board members. There were many willing to volunteer for upcoming events and I’m sure that TOHS Key Club will be successful in serving our community this year! - Mihoko Kubo

For Moorpark Key Club, we had a table with our club banner where we passed out flyers and established a sign in sheet so that we could stay in contact with the interested members. We had over 60 people stop by our table and take an interest in our club. Because Club Fair was after our first meeting, we could compare the impact it had made with the attendance count at the following meeting. It is evident that this event was vital towards our club growth and greatly helped attract potential active members that we now have today. - Kevin Nguyen

WHS Key Club proudly presents the new and improved Key Club! We have approximately 20 new members, a dedicated board, and the best advisors we could ever hope for! We are already planning a Halloween scavenger hunt, TEDx volunteering, and Habitat for Humanity volunteering. And we’re still looking forward to that stud pageant, Newbury! - Andrew Ge

Moopark To me, Thursdays means Key Club meetings, which is another way of saying a lunchtime well-spent. Even from the beginning, I understood that I was with wonderfully dedicated and selfless teenagers, and the fact that each member is willing to spend their time volunteering is a testament to all the good that Key Club brings. The first meeting I ever attended was not just a reminder of the generous nature of some, it was also enjoyable. The officers are welcoming, and manage to balance the hard work that might be daunting to others with their kind and positive attitudes. If not that, then their spirited cheers are always encouraging. I am so glad to have joined Key Club and the fantastic people who make it possible. - Delanie Wolf

me new members to Key Club? Oak Park On Tuesday September 30th Oak Park Key Club had its first meeting of the year! The officer team and I were super excited—and nervous—to start out the year, especially because we got 200 sign-ups during Club Rush the week before. Tyler and I prepared a great presentation and our adviser bought tons of ice cream to attract as many people as possible. Once I got to the room I was astounded by how my people were packed into G-08! There were students sitting on the ground covering every inch of the room, and Tyler and I could barely hear each other over the crowd. Once everyone settled down we began our presentation with a few laughs and lots of information. We talked about cool projects and by the end, people already started signing up for events. We had a blast and hopefully our next meeting will be just as successful! - Irena Yang

Santa Susana On Thursday, September 18, our school had our Club Rush. We promoted Key Club and had a GREAT turn out! Over 200 students signed up to join and there were crowds around our table. Our members went all out wearing tutus and their division shirts to show their narwhal spirit! We also had Instagram signs, a bubble machine, thundersticks, and the division flag to show everyone how FUN our club is! During the middle of Club Rush, we also had the DJ ask us “How do you feel?!” and my members did the cheer in the middle of the quad. The next day, Friday, September 26, we had our first Key Club meeting. We had over 150 members show up and the meeting was a success! As president, I cannot wait to see what this year has in store for my club. I am a proud Mama Narwhal for Santa Susana High School! - Lorraine Ador
