Hello Narwhals! Weclome back to school! Now that our daily activities are increased, and our sleep schedules are adjusted, our lives are slowly returning to normal. I, for one, am SUPER excited to get back into the swing of regular events. Many clubs took a dip in activity over summer, but as the school year picks up I’m sure the events and participation will increase! Club Rush or Club Hello Day is coming up, so be ready and enthusiastic to recuit new members! Show them how much fun Key Club is and how great it is! I think we have a shot at increasing our Division membership this year! Swimming in Service,
Sally Deng

A Message from your LTG
Hello, Narwhals! I can’t believe it’s been 4 months now since our year had begun. I’m so honored to work with an amazing leadership team and the wonderful schools that I serve Remember that in Key Club, all of you, the members are of the utmost importance. My job is to serve all of you. I hope that we can have a great school year and that those difficult classes you’re taking won’t overwhelm you. Remember that you’re not alone! Ask your presidents for help, me for help, and both families: your real one and your Key Club Ohana. We have a lot ahead of us! Swimming in service,
Joseph Ko

Royal FOOD PANTRY by Kelley Lam Royal went with Moorpark to the Food Pantry in early August! We sorted food, clothes, and toys in the food pantry! Another thing we did was we clean up the whole place like sweeping floors, vaccuming etc. Also, we helped carry bags in, we placed food in bags, and we made sure everything was orderly inside the pantry! It was an awesome experience and it was a really fun day, as you can see in this selfie.
Simi Valley LITTLE EXPLORERS PRESCHOOL by Ryan Luong This past summer, while other people were out going to the beach, I am happy to say that I spent my time at the Little Explorers Preschool getting the chance to hang out with some pretty cool little kids. As part of the Spotlight on Service Program for the CNH Distrcit, we focused on child education and what better way to do that than to interact with them at such a young age by playing with them, reading to them, and even doing arts and crafts with them. From going onto the playground to push them on the swings and running around on the grass to going inside the classroom and reading or playing with cars or even drawing with them, we were able to help them learn about interacting with other kids and things like sharing and even some things that they learn in school, while still having fun. Even when most of my time was spent pushing kids on the swings or tying on capes from towels, it was time well spent just being able to hang out with them and I know that these kids enjoyed it too and will take something away from this experience.
LITTLE EXPLORERS PRESCHOOL by Juliana Nghiem For the month of August, I volunteered at the Little Explorers Preschool every Tuesday and Thursday and played with kids from ages 22 months-5 years old. I would push them on the swings and interact with them in the classroom such as helping them draw, giving them water, reading to them, and putting them down for a nap. Throughout this whole month, I have made a strong bond with all of the children and they taught me many things when I was there: to appreciate the little things and happiness is shared with others. This month went by really fast and I will miss the smiles, the laughs, and tears of everyone. This volunteer opportunity was a worthwhile event that I am thankful for.

INTERNATIONAL DAY AT SUNRISE by Carlo Cruz-Albrecht Located just off the Ventura Freeway, not far from Westlake Lake, Sunrise Senior Living resides: a home for some of the friendliest and most engaging people I have had the pleasure to meet. Along with my sister Laura, we visit the home each Saturday to meet the residents and have fun together. This month, International Day was hosted. It was an afternoon packed with family, friends, music, food, and games. After some patriotic decorating, Laura and I ran the Tropical Game Booth! We brought out the care-free side from the residents that played our game and we lit up the faces of the little kids after handing out prizes. In the evening, we braved the deserted dance-floor and moved to the music. This was the best part because it made the crowd so happy and soon our friends — young and old — came out and joined us. Taking the time to interact with the elderly means so much to them and it is a very enriching and fun experience. After attending a 1-hour orientation, volunteers can pop in at Sunrise anytime.
JULY DCM by Giselle Langley This past July, our club had six members including myself attend the July DCM for a day of fun and escaping the heat. It was a great opportunity to meet other Key Clubbers in the division while staying informed of the various exciting things and volunteer opportunities we have planned for the future. The ice breaker, which was a water balloon toss, was very exciting and a good way to interact with new people, and a good way to show off Oak Park’s talent at the activity. Later, we took part in a watermelon eating contest which was extremely amusing to watch and participate in, especially because I won all three rounds. To finish off the meeting, all of the Narwhals engaged in a water balloon, gun, and bucket fight where it was every man for his or herself. Everyone enjoyed the activities and had a good time making the best of a hot summer day.

Thousand Oaks BEST DAY by Neil Reed So best day was a great day at the beach; we (the volunteers) on the beach each got a buddy to hang out with for the day. The kids all had special needs but it was our job to make the day a “best day” for the buddy we were with. At the beach that day we (Daniel and I) helped our buddy through surfing, swimming, kayaking, bodysurfing and many more related fun beach activities. It was a great day for my buddy to get away from everyday life and have some fun and in my part as well, because it was a truly genuine experience. It truly was a best day.
SPENCER DIETRICH’S EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT by Spencer Flynn I worked at an Eagle Scout project building a new pathway along a hill at King of Glory church in Newbury Park. When I arrived the project was halfway done. I helped lay the final few stones in and hammer them down, and then I worked clearing ground to put the path’s side rails in. It was a hot and sweaty day, but it felt good to be out there!
Santa Susana AUGUST DCM by Belle Ly On August 17, I attended my division’s August DCM, led by our LTG, Joseph Ko. We got to learn more about what was happening in the division and some future opportunities that we can take part in. It was also Joseph’s birthday so we got to celebrate it with him after getting to know a little bit more about our fellow narwhals. I enjoy attending every dcm because there’s always something different every time!

MOORPARK PANTRY PLUS by Michael Ayers One of our club’s most popular and frequently attended service opportunities is the Moorpark Pantry Plus. By volunteering our time and helping out on Saturday, August 2nd, we have made many beneficial improvements in the organization, status, and overall attitude that surround this active organization. The work we do includes folding and sorting clothes, cleaning up the pantry’s facilities, and packing various food items to be distributed to those in need across the city. After spending time sorting food, clothes, and other necessary supplies, we celebrate our contributions by going out to a delicious brunch. Be sure to join us the next time we volunteer at the Food Pantry for tons of fun and good food!
MOORPARK PANTRY PLUS by Roshan Dave The Moorpark Pantry Plus is the most popular volunteering place in Moorpark. If you don’t know about it, then you should volunteer with us one day! When I first volunteered here on Saturday, July 19th, I was asked to stack various food items and organize clothes for less-fortunate families in Moorpark. After volunteering here, I felt a sense of accomplishment. I was amazed at how dedicated the other volunteers were to help their community also. Volunteering at the Pantry Plus is a rewarding experience and helps those who can’t afford certain necessities. Together, we can make a change in the world, but this day, we started off with helping our local neighborhood.
DIVISION 42 EAST DCM by Sophia Le Attending the July DCM was a blast! It was the first DCM I attended, and the outcome turned out to be better than I expected. I helped Julianna fill up water balloons for the water balloon toss and water balloon fight that later took place, and occasionally threw one at the boys just for fun. I got to meet new people from other schools in the same division, which was awesome. The highlight of the DCM for me, was being one of the last people in the water balloon toss, and the water balloon fight of course. Also, the watermelon that Joseph brought was a delightful treat. Getting updates from the division and all the schools was great to hear also. I’m totally looking forward to the next DCM!
