HAVANA - FRESH FOOD - FRESH IDEAS
H AVA N A

Fresh Food, Fresh Ideas
R
arely do you find a restaurant so determined to separate itself from the competition with its food preparation, however, Havana is one such restaurant. 'NO MSG' is written in big letters on the first page of the menu. This motto is something Chef Oh Hee-seok has come to follow since he began cooking in kitchens in Daegu. This idea of taking the freshest food and ingredients and keeping them that way is the heart of Chef Oh's culinary philosophy. Having established himself as a top chef in Daegu, he's been perfecting his craft for the last 10 years. His menu is chalk full of exciting dishes. Fusing traditional Italian style with Asian flavors brings out some fabulous flavors that make your eyes say, "More," even if your stomach says, "I'm full!" One dish that really stood out during our interview was his Fresh Mushroom and Bacon Spin-
6
ach Salad. Normally, one thinks immediately of Popeye the Sailor man and his awful expression whenever he had to gulp down that can of spinach. Thankfully, this isn't the case with this Fresh Spinach Salad. The bacon is cooked just right. The mushrooms and spinach are lightly coated with a thin layer of oriental dressing, which Chef Oh prepares specially for this salad. This is by far my favorite dish Havana has to offer.
I haven't come across a Fresh Spinach Salad that reminded me of home in Korea ever. In fact, I could write an entire article describing my love for this salad, except I am lucky enough to have sampled more dishes Havana has to offer and want to share them with you. If spinach isn't your thing, then try the Wild, Spring Lettuce Chicken Breast Salad. Wow, try saying that five times fast. Congratulations, you did it! This isn't your normal Korean side-dish iceberg lettuce salad with pink dressing on it, either. This is an assorted mix of wild, gourmet spring lettuce. Crispy barely scratches the surface when it comes to talking about this lettuce. I think if this salad was served in the Shire, it would have the Hobbit stamp of certified fresh. And, at 8,000w, this salad is definitely big enough to serve as your main meal. The skinless chicken breast is touched
HAVANA - FRESH FOOD - FRESH IDEAS cated next to the new Daegu Bank downtown, on the same street as Thursday Party as you are walking west towards the big stage. Check it out sometime, your taste buds will thank you, mine actually said, "Wow, you finally made a smart choice for once." That's never happened to me before, either. Sun-Thu 11:30am – 11pm (Last main dish order 9pm) (Side dishes 10pm) with a hint of paprika and red wine to give it a distinct flavor that I haven't tasted in seven ages of man. If you're on a bit of a health kick, don't worry, there is only a light drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette used to enhance the flavor of the wild greens, making a beautiful ballad of flavor in your mouth.
Havana's interior is clean and spacious with a nice patio on the 3rd floor with 2 tables. Enough for 7 of your bestest buds to get together and have a laugh while enjoying some fabulous chemical free, NO MSG food. There isn't any other place like Havana in Daegu. It is conveniently lo-

The King of Crab Pasta as I like to call it, or Crab Cream Pasta (10,000w) as written in the menu is another entree that Chef Oh has innovated. The synergy between the king crab used and the rich cream sauce is splendid. Efficiently working to create a diverse range of flavor that doesn't have a hint of 'seafoody' pasta taste to it. Instead, you taste the robust and powerful flavor of king crab. The cream sauce is similar to a crab bisque you might have at an overpriced restaurant. Chef Oh has merged his ingredients together, having each part play an integral role on the final product. The King of Crab Pasta! This is his favorite dish to prepare for customers because he enjoys the satisfied expressions that create a golden orb of happiness around their faces.

JJ’S BAR AND GRILL - HOME AWAY FROM HOME

hen it comes to foreigneraimed bars, downtown Daegu has a nice pool to choose from. There does, however, seem to be a shortage of what I refer to as “mid-tempo” establishments. Either you’re elbow to elbow with every perspiring, lubricated waygook downtown or you’re sitting in a dark basement listening to sad indie music. If only there existed some middle ground between pul-
recreated the casual hangout feel that is sometimes missing from the hotspots here in Daegu. According to JJ, the only ‘theme’ he had in mind for his new bar was “a good place to meet people, kick back, and have some nice conversation.” Mission accomplished. JJ’s layout is particularly well suited to this endeavor. Located on the third floor of what we oldtimers would refer to as “the old Holy Grill,” the interior of JJ’s is as warm and open as its staff. The wall facing the street is comprised
sating and drab, between sweaty and lonely, between LMFAO and Elliot Smith. Enter JJ’s Bar and Grill. Opened on March 15th of this year, JJ’s Bar and Grill has already seen its fan-base multiply. There are a number of reasons for this hangout’s warm reception by Daegu bar-goers, the most obvious of which is JJ’s casual and friendly atmosphere. Much of what makes JJ’s vibe unique is, well, JJ. Having spent nearly 30 years in the US, JJ Chi is no stranger to what expats long for in a watering-hole away from home. He has successfully

entirely of large glass windows, allowing for a nice view of the probable weekend chaos below. There is a bar where the drinks are served, as well as a long bar-style island in the middle of the space. The remaining wall is lined with additional seating, darts, and two large flat-screen TVs.
The drink menu is diverse and prices are very reasonable. JJ’s offers about a dozen different beers with Cass, Alley Kat, and Guinness available on tap. All of your standard favorite cocktails and shots are available at prices starting at 4,000w. Don’t let the menu limit you though; the staff speaks English and can whip up just about anything your heart (liver) desires. JJ’s also sports a surprising whiskey/cognac selection. Now onto the mouth-wateringly delicious cuisine. JJ has owned successful restaurants in Washington State as well as Los Angeles and his experience in Westernstyle cooking is readily apparent. JJ describes the items on his menu simply as “bar food,” but that label is selling this food (and the selection) short.
Whenever possible, JJ’s food is made from scratch using fresh ingredients. To start, JJ presented us with his hot wings (only 50 cents each

on Tuesday nights) which were lightly fried, generously basted in buffalo sauce, and accompanied by carrot sticks and ranch dressing. These have the taste and, most importantly, crunchy texture of the wings back home. Next up were the nachos--freshly fried
corn tortillas topped with onions, tomatoes, Italian sausage and melted jack and cheddar cheeses. (12,000w) According to JJ, this is a fan favorite and when combined with his fresh homemade salsa and guacamole, it’s easy to see why. JJ then brought us the chicken
Though our homesick sensibilities lead us toward the Tex-Mex style options, that is far from all that JJ’s menu has to offer. Over a dozen other dishes are available ranging from the Chipotle Ranch Bacon Burger (10,000w), the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich (12,000w) and a number of salads and wraps. If you’re feeling like a treat, try JJ’s superb 8-oz. Rib Eye, 14-oz. New York Steak, or the whopping 18-oz. Cow Boy Steak. Long story short, you will not be disappointed with the food at JJ’s. It’s also important to note that, since JJ makes his food fresh
JJ’S BAR AND GRILL - HOME AWAY FROM HOME and from scratch, vegetarians and vegans are easily accommodated. Apart from the great food and drinks, JJ works hard to ensure his customers are having a good time. One way he hopes to accomplish this is through weekly events. Tuesday is “Wing Night”--wings are 50 cents (500w) each. The bar also hosts Texas Hold’em tournaments on Wednesday nights with the winner being awarded a nice bottle of liquor or gift certificate from the bar. For the hardcore card-sharks out there, worry not; JJ knows the ins and outs of the game well having worked in Las Vegas and, more recently, as the floor manager of Daegu Casino. On Thursday nights, the bar hosts a darts tournament.
JJ’s opens at 5:00 p.m. and stays open until the customers are gone. For those of you who like to party really late into the night, JJ’s begins serving “Hangover Breakfast” in May from 6:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. on the weekends. These potentially life-saving meals include breakfast staples such as eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, and of course bloody marys. JJ’s is located near all of the action downtown and is very easy to find. From the Samduk Fire Station, head toward the foreigner bar strip and take the first right. JJ’s is located on the 3rd floor on the left. If you’re looking for a new place to hang out, drink, and stuff your face with some awesome food, stop by JJ’s.
DENIZEN’S 1ST ALBUM - HORUS CHORUS
A Look Into Denizen’s Horus Written by Sanita Saengvilay / Photo by Scott McLaughlin
You don’t have to look very far if you are looking for a rock and roll band playing good ‘ole Americana music. Daegu’s own, Denizen just released their first album, Horus Chorus, on April 10th, 2012. The album is available at http://denizenband.bandcamp.com/ album/horus-chorus. You can purchase the whole album for $7 and listen to catchy, upbeat love songs anytime you want. Songs to check out are “Culture Shock” and “Venice.” Here are a few words leader singer, Michael McFarlane, had to say about their new album. What’s the meaning behind your album’s name, Horus Chorus? We worked closely with Philan Jung at Urban lounge and did most of the recording and mixing at his newly opened Horus Music Garage. So the Horus is a tribute to that and the Daegu music scene. Also, the more I worked with the raw band material before recording the vocals, the more voices I began incorporating. It was like a chorus. The words rhymed so the shoe fit. How long did it take you guys to finish the album (writing, practicing, recording, and mixing)? Was it a difficult process? It was a challenging process, but not a difficult one. If you like what you do, you don't care how hard it is. In fact, there was a day
Chorus.
when I was re-working the song "Honey You,” and I began working at 2:00pm on Saturday and worked straight until I finished at 8:00am, the next morning. Our band has been around since early last fall, and had been working on the songs since the beginning. We recorded the band without vocals at Urban in 10 hours, over two sessions. This was in late December. The whole idea was to make a quick demo album and contribute a few songs to the Urban compilation album. The whole thing was supposed to take a few weeks. Once I started laying down temp/practice vocals tracks, the process surpassed the "rough demo" phase and took on a life of its own. The more I edited it, the better it sounded. We also
added guitar solos, overdubs, and we re-recorded two tracks. If we were on a professional work schedule, we could have had it done in two weeks, but we could only meet a few days a week, so it took longer. How do your friends and family back home feel? It feels great to have this under my belt. I've always wanted to record at least one album. Now, I want another one. There is no vacation that I could take, or fancy gadget that I could buy that would be as good of a gift to myself then a music album. I will be able to listen to and share this music for the rest of my life. Reactions have been continued on p14

largely positive. I am mortified to tell my family, though. I have a feeling that they will only hear their mumbly, goofy-voiced littlebrother or at least be so scathingly critical that I'll never think to do this kind of thing again. Honestly, I've only made passing references to my involvement in this band to the folks back home. They may still think it is just another passing phase in my life or an idle hobby. What was the process in creating songs? I write the songs for the band. I create demo tracks at home including the main guitar parts, vocals parts, a simple bass idea, and now, using a coffee can, a tamborine, and a cabasa, a drum beat. I send it to the boys and they get familiar with the songs on their own time. At our practice, the
guys will tell me how boring my ideas are, and we make necessary changes to give the songs more dynamics and life. For this album, we got point on these ten songs to lay down a 4-track recording. At that point, I made a rough mix tape from those sessions and recorded practice tracks at home. This was the point when I explored with the character of the vocal parts and experimented with vocal harmonies and recording techniques such as overdubs. I also added guitar solos to songs we hadn't done during the live recording. I consider this the most important step of creating the album and also the most fun.
this. However, that is not counting any of the time I spent writing and recording on my own or the amount of time Joshua spent mixing on his own. What plans do you guys have next? I am currently working on our next set of songs that will make up a second album. We are already playing some of the new ones live. Having a good 20 songs will grant us much needed flexibility in our live shows. Once we finally print the album onto an actual CD, I can start sending it to radio stations, venues, and other connections. Maybe mom and dad will get a copy, too.
Officially, we spent about ninety hours, on-the-clock, doing all of

BORNEO - LAND BELOW THE WIND

he imagination tingles and shivers with thoughts of the lost and foggy jungle island of Borneo. Isolated villages, towering trees, mammoth creepy crawlies and home to a treasure trove of rare and rapidly disappearing flora and fauna, the Land Below the Wind does not disappoint.
Not on the travel radar of many expats in Korea, either because of it’s absence of bucket drinks or it’s sheer inaccessibility, the eastern Malaysian state of Sabah is a hidden paradise for those seeking travel with a conscience. Us here in Daegu, and Korea as a whole sometimes forget what is happening outside of our comfortable little bubble. In a country where it’s hard to find a trash bin on the sidewalk, there isn’t much we really do in terms of being proactive. But a trip to Borneo can and will open the eyes to the need for a different approach to our travels.
The surroundings of the far eastern port town of Sandakan, and the Kinabatangan River basin are particularly noteworthy spots on the eco-tourism trail. The Kinabatangan is the longest river in Sabah and it’s vast floodplain is a true eden for wildlife. But despite the opportunities to come face to face with the phallus nosed Proboscis Monkeys, orangutans, crocodiles, rhinos and pygmy elephants, this river is home to far more than just animals.

Well then, you might ask, what does this mean for the average expat in Korea? It is an eco-tourism mecca with ample off the beaten path experiences to be had. There is the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, the most famous of its kind. A trip wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Gomantong Caves, home to thousands of swiftlets and bats. INTERVIEW WITH MITCH TALBOT
SAMSUNG LIONS NEWEST ACE
Written and photographed by Scott McLaughlin
O
n a sunny afternoon, standing in the dugout of the Samsung Lions, I had the privilege to interview the Lions newest foreign pitcher, Mitch Talbot. On December 1, 2011, he signed with the 2010-2011 KBL Champions in hopes to defend their title this year. After a slow start to the season, Mitch Talbot took to the mound on April 12th and won his first start, along with Samsung's first win of the season over the KIA Tigers (10-2) in spectacular fashion. A right-handed pitcher, Talbot began throwing strikes with his ‘change up’ since he was little. Growing up in southern Utah, with 3 older brothers as motivation, he honed his skills and was drafted by the Houston Astros in 2002 straight out of high school. In 2006, he was then traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and played for their Triple-A squad, the Durham Bulls. In 2008, he was called up to the majors. In 2009, he was traded to the Cleveland Indians, where he had an impressive 2010 season with them. In 2011, he be-

came a free agent and with a little encouragement from last year's Samsung Lion's foreign player, Justin Germano, decided to test his arm against Korea's finest. Having lived in Korea for only a month now, he and his wife, who are expecting their first baby girl to be born this summer, have settled into their life in Daegu without a hitch. As we chatted about his decision to come and play in Korea, it seemed as if he had lived abroad his whole life. But I guess that just comes with the job, road games, staying in hotels and traveling across country back in the States seemed to prepare him for the challenges he would face in Korea. He had a very gregarious personality throughout the interview that would make him a locker room favorite. We joked about the language barrier and how his teammates use him for English practice at times. Also, about how enthusiastic the crowd is here and how the cheerleaders don't distract him from
retiring the side. Mitch Talbot is a great addition to this year's team. At the time of this writing, he is 1-0, but the Lions are 3-7. I'm pretty confident Coach Ryu will get his team in championship form soon. After a summer of celebrating, where I'm sure a few bottles of soju were knocked back, who can blame them for starting out a little slow. And with 2 new foreigners to help lead the way, in Mitch Talbot and Brain Gordon, the Lions will begin to ROAR again soon! Next issue, we'll get to know Brian Gordon, a veteran of the KBL. He jumped ship from SK Wyverns to help pitch the Lions to 2012 glory!

Taught by Canadian oil painter Jason Patrick Jenkins, the classes are open to a wide range of drawing and painting mediums. Small class sizes allow for lots of one-on-one attention. Beginners can focus on the basics, and advanced students are encouraged to experiment with new techniques and push their artwork to the next level. ELEGANT HAIR CUTS AT COHEART
TREAT YOURSELF TO A BIT OF ELEGANCE AT COHEART Written by Farra Maysara / Photos by Hami

OHEART Salon is a highly recommended hair beauty salon in Daegu where customers can get their hair done by top-notch hair dressers using high quality products along with reasonable prices! They have lustrous hair color treatments with glorious highlights and lovely digital hair perming. Most of the beauty products they use are imported from The US, France, Italy and Japan such as; Kerastase and L’Oreal. The quality of the products and hairdresser’s skills are second-tonone! COHEART Salon stands for Can (Nothing is impossible), Opinion (Listen to our customer) Happiness (Put our best to make customer happy), Emotive (Appealing and expressing), Artistic (Bring the beauty to our customer), Revolution (Move forward) and Technical (Skillful staffs). The owner is Mrs. Moo Yeon, Bek, she is really kind-hearted woman, regarding to her, COHEART staffs are trained and encouraged to ensure customers think of going 'nowhere else' for their hair and beauty needs. COHEART’s recent
growth in sales and service team reflect a commitment to that vision One of Mrs. Moo Yeon Bek’s dreams is to give opportunities to every staff to advance their skills through working in COHEART. Her biggest dream is to help her staff sooner or later open their own hair and beauty salon under the COHEART name. Staff at the Suseong branch are really friendly and speak English very well. There will be no language barrier for foreigners to enjoy some relaxation time. The head chief of COHEART at the Suseong Branch, Ms. Eun Hee Son, attended “Vidal Sassoon Beauty Academy“ in London for two
years and got her certification from there. I recommend this salon to all my foreign friends because their professional
hairdressers will match hair colors, style and treatment that fit you the best! It is a great place for both genders no matter what cut or color you are looking for. The salon is beautiful with a cozy interior design and a luxurious coffee bar inside. In every single seat, there is an I-pad for customers to play while having hair treatment. They give every

customer premium coffee (Americano, Cappuccino, Coffee Latte, etc) and treated me like I had been a customer with them forever. I had my hair cut and it turned out very beautiful. I have never been so happy with the turnout of my hair. Then, she styled it for me in a fun and flirty hair way! They have earned my services for as long as they are in business, which at this rate I would imagine would be forever for as good as they are. It was the best experience I have ever had at a salon in Korea. The services they offer are Hair Cut (15,000 – 25,000 won; depends on the hair dresser) , Hair Digital Perming (starts from 50,000 – 100,000 won), Hair Color (starts from 60,000 won) Exclusive Hair and Scalp Treatment (starts from 70,000won), Nail art (starts from 15,000 won) and Make-Up (70,000 won). How to get there? COHEART has 2 branches; the main branch is across the ARIANA hotel in Suseong-gu (Map below) and another branch on 1st floor of Dong-A Mart in Suseong-gu area. In order to get to the 2nd branch, take subway train line 2, get off at The Daegu Bank station and go for exit 3. You will see a convenience store (7eleven) at the corner of a big junction nearby the exit 3. From the convenience store, turn left (heading to Haize apartment) and walk less more 100 meters then you will find Dong-A mart. The Dong-A mart is exactly at the back of Haize apartment but keep walking until you find another corner and turn left, the salon is 15-30 meters from that corner.
HELLO! - PG. LOST INTERVIEW
Hello! ‘Pg. Lost’ Interview Written and photographed by Fuzz Chucas
Pg. Lost is Maritn, Gustave, Mattias M, Kristy
Pg. Lost is that mellifluous instrumental band of the stoner ilk, whose sound lulls in slow arcs of contemplative moments rendering listeners to their own thoughts, then interrupting with bursts of distorted guitar, synth, and drumming onslaughts. In the same style as Explosions in the Sky and Mono, their music builds from quiet beginnings, volleying back and forth between crescendos and intervals of calm. -SCS

his is a pretty big Asian tour where have you been already? G. We started off in Hong Kong, then to China to do like 12 shows., 12? I think 12. Its been so long we’re all confused. But then we went to Taiwan and now here in South Korea. How are you finding South Korea so far? M. For me I don’t know but because I’ve been to Japan and I’ve been to China it kind of feels like in the middle of the two. The environment and the landscapes certainly remind me of back home in Sweden, Did you intend on being an instrumental band from the beginning? K. For this band I think it was just a way to do something different because we were all in other bands that were really commercial with vocals and all that so we started this band just to hang out and have fun. It started out that we played instrumentally, for a period we added vocals, but the real Pg. Lost you hear today just skipped the
vocals. M. We just wanted to try things out and do music without boundaries we all had other bands which were releasing records and stuff so we did this more for fun. So you weren’t worried about moving away from a more conventional format of a band? G. We just wanted to jam and make songs that way. As a group and individually, could you talk about your influences, do you share many. It wouldn’t surprise me if you didn’t share many because of your unique sound? K. I think of you take bands from the post rock genre. We all got inspired by Mono and Mogwai and bands like that. But outside of the post rock genre, we all listen to a lot of different music. M. I’ve always been fond of melodies, ever since I was a kid I listened to Iron Maiden, (chuckles) and that’s all based on melodies. That’s always inspiring to me. (Big smile on his face).
Explosions in the sky? That’s always a name dropped around you guys… K. Yeah we listen to them, but I think Mono was one of the bands that we were all really into for a while. G. Sound wise, I would say Mono are a bigger influence than ‘Explosions’, even though we like ‘Explosions‘ also but I think Mono was closer I think. M. Also, Mono has a special relationship with us because our first show in Sweden was supporting them. What is your favourite track that you’ve recorded and what feelings do you attach to it? G. It tends to be the latest track or something from the latest album. It changes al the time. Its hard, I think the feeling of it changes also depending on the day, and what you think of other people and how they think it influences you. continued on p30

JEONGDONGJIN - A SEASIDE TOWN
HELLO! - PG. LOST INTERVIEW continued from p28
Is there a song you wrote in which at the point of conception you feel strongly about it, and every time you play it afterwards do you feel the same again? M. I think ‘Yes I am’ of our EP. It was one of the first things we ever recorded. I don’t think at the time any of us were very fond of it because we did it very fast and recorded it in just 2 days. Then it got released and its now one of our hits. So that’s a personal favourite of yours? M. For me its growing, I didn’t see it at the time but the sound was special. G. Since then, we’ve evolved that track sound wise and when we do
it live now, it’s a different track, you know. That kind of song always works and always feels good when we play it. What are the most important things in your lives right now? K. Keep on the music, visit new places and just enjoy life I think. M. Same I like to travel, and if I get to play music and travel, and see countries like Korea and the Asian countries its great. I have a feeling its like our goal to go to new places. Big shows or small shows, doesn’t matter as long as we get to travel. G. Its hard to say anything else, wer’re all on the same page. This is what we love the most that’s why it’s the most important thing right now. Of course, there are other
things but this is what you long for the most. Martin; What he said ( big eruption of laughter) M. Yeah he’s the great talker of the band! And finally web stuff to check out..? M. Google ‘ Pg. lost’ G. There are some cool videos from our Asian tour on there and some from Korea too. Thanks a lot for your time guys. Also, thanks to SuperColorSuper for setting up the interview! Please continue to support their great live shows in the future!

ravelling in India is a challenging and interesting experience. There are two options, that become readily apparent when you arrive here. One, you can stay in touristy areas where the people will consistently try to cheat you. You can do this for around one month. It’s an experience, a lot of fun and lets be honest. Mo Farah Interview Written by Kenneth Quillinan / Photos by PACE Sports Management
''London Olympics
2012,''what crosses your mind when you hear this? It is something that everyone has been talking about for many years and now that it is finally round the corner it is very exciting. How is the preparation going? Do you feel like you can conquer both the 10K and 5K this summer? Preparations are going very well. I trained well this winter and still have four months to go. I am aiming to add to my medal collection in London but am aware that the competition will be very tough. I am confident but can’t take anything for granted. What is your daily routine leading up to the main event? Diet/Exercise? I normally train in the mornings and evenings. In between I try to rest, refuel and get treatment to keep my body in one piece. I eat a healthy diet but when I run over
100 miles per week I burn a lot of calories so can eat pretty much whatever I like. Last summer in Daegu showed how much heart and fight you have, when you came back and won the 5,000 metres. This summer with the whole stadium behind you, do you think you can produce something special like 1) a gold medal for the UK and 2) a potentially
new World Record?? Last year was great for me winning a gold and silver in the World Championships. I would love to get on the podium in London. If I can win the gold in front of my home crowd it will be very special. I don’t expect an y world record performances in the Olympic Games in the men’s long distance races – they are usually tactical affairs. Was the indoor season a good way to start the season or has it damaged your confidence? The indoor season was good. Of course I was disappointed not to win in the World Indoors in Istanbul but it showed that I am in good shape but can’t take anything for granted. It is very unusual for one athlete to dominate in the long distance races. The important thing is to win when it counts in London. Have you refocused on any specific areas after the in-

doors? I will just keep working hard and preparing for the outdoor season. Who do you think will be the athletes to watch out for in the summer apart from the usual
suspects? Any particular even/ duel/match up that you are looking forward to seeing? The good thing about athletics is that there are so many star athletes. In many events there are great competitions. I have a lot of friends so I will be watching them. Usain Bolt against the world in the 100m. Rudisha v Kaki in the 800m. Vivian Cheruiyot against the Ethiopians in the women’s long distances. Paula Radcliffe who will be hoping to win the marathon on home soil.
Away from the track, how do you feel your beloved Arsenal's season is panning out? It's looking like another trophyless season but Champions League football next season-is this good enough to keep Wenger in his job?? Things looked shaky early on but now we are going well and up to third in the league. I hope this will give the team confidence to build and challenge for silverware next season. Finally, when you look back on your career and its abundance of success, is there one thing in particular that you would love to be able to tell your grandchildren? I hope to have a lot of things to tell them. Ask me again after London.

ORDERING FOOD Hello there. Have you ever had a difficult time with food delivery? Today I want to tell you how to order some food in your home. That's right, Erin. How many times do you get home and see all those magnetic menus scattered all over your door? If you're the type who likes to order food at home, those menus can be a godsend, but for the rest of us, they are often discarded as simple trash. Why? The food looks good right? And we all know about Korea's super-fast and efficient home delivery system. What's the deal? Intimidated? Scared? Afraid if you dispatch a crazed, scootercruising delivery man he will knock down some local neighborhood kids as he burns rubber on the sidewalks to get your delivery rushed out to you? Actually, ordering food at home over the phone is so much easier than you might think. Erin First things first. Find what you want to order and get your quantities ready. Now, look at the phone number. If the restaurant phone number has eight digits, just enter those digits into your phone and dial them up. But, if the number has only seven digits, you need to enter Daegu's area code (053) first and then initiate the call. Gang Sanggu Nice, Erin. So, you've got the phone number cued up in your phone. It's shaking. You're nervous. Like calling Jenny Sanderson to ask her to the prom. Remember those jitters? Erin HEY! Who's Jenny Sanderson?! You never told me about her!? Gang Sanggu Um.....well, the ajumma on the other end might not slow dance with you at the Spring formal, but she should go easy on you when she hears that sweet, smooth, foreigner voice. Erin Yeah. It's time to call the restaurant. Which expressions can we use in this situation? First of all, give your address, tell them what you want to order, and then ask the price. Look at the chart on p36. It is an easy step-by-step guide that eve n you can follow Sanggu.

FREE KOREAN CLASSES WITH DESC
Learn Korean with DESC was established for those in need to
improve the level of their spoken English ability with help from a number of volunteer teachers. In return for their willingness to give Koreans the great opportunity, DESC is preparing Korean classes focusing on reading, writing, and speaking skills for the volunteer teachers at the office of DESC every Saturday at 3pm. The objective of the course is to equip the teachers with communicative skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing at a basic level in Korean. Just like there is a saying that language is a mirror of culture, language always reflects many aspects of the culture of a country in which the language is used and learning Korean is the best way to know and enjoy this beautiful country, its people, traditions, and culture. Don’t worry!!! DESC will be your guide every step of the way. Join us today~~ Most Koreans, from the kids in kindergartens to the high school students, spend a lot of time taking English lessons at schools and private education institutes. A good English fluency is crucial for getting into better colleges and better jobs for many Koreans. But after spending a life time devoted to English proficiency, do Koreans feel that it really pays off? While Koreans would be able to read and understand anything written in English, they often find themselves disappointed when it comes to speaking English. Founded in 2010, with a vision for building better English communication skill, DESC, Daegu English Speaking Club, will help those in desire to be fluent in spoken English have the opportunity to connect with native English speakers. DESC provides English classes every Saturday, 5pm at DESC office located in Samduk-Dong, Jung-Gu. Many qualified volunteer teachers who, by the way, are also eager to learn Korean and exchange their cultures are ready to teach you how to speak English and learn how to speak Korean. We are confident that our classes with language and cultural exchange will not only be able to help you reach your goal of speaking fluent English but contribute to mutual understanding between people from different countries as well, which DESC believes is 38

Darren Clarke Interview Written by Kenneth Quillinan

ith the Ballantines Championship only a couple of weeks away, this year Korea will once again welcome some of the best golfers to its shores to compete for this illustrious trophy. Among them will be Darren Clarke, the current British Open champion. He was nice enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions I put to him. Are you looking forward to your first trip to South Korea? Very much so. I have always loved travelling and I’ve heard so many good things about the country, its people and culture. Will you bring the Claret Jug with you? Do you still have to pinch yourself at times when you see the jug in your possession? I try to take the jug with me whenever possible. It did take a while for me to believe that I had actually realized my dreams, but now I have the satisfaction of knowing they cannot be taken away from me. What do you know about this
event from talking to fellow Pros who competed here last year? They all said what a great challenge it is and how educated the galleries are. Do you think that Asia, and Korea in particular, can produce a World No 1 in the future? I don’ think it, I know it. I am sure it will happen sooner rather than later. The girls are currently leading the way, but the boys will quickly catch up and in K J Choi they have a great role model. DAEGU THEATRE TROUPE PERFORMS CLOSER
“Closer” by the DTT Written by Rachel Brownwell

his coming May will mark the opening of the Daegu Theatre Troupe’s 2012 theatre season. While the Troupe has been active in Daegu for about 4 years, the last year has easily been its most active. They’ve been expanding the number of performances, the size of their audiences, and are beginning to take productions to other cities around Korea. Between the 24-hour Theatre Challenges, Musical Revues, Murder Mysteries and other full-length productions, there is nearly always a new show just around the corner, and this month is no exception. This year, the DTT will open with the play, Closer by Patrick Marber. Made famous by the 2004 film starring Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Clive Owen, and Julia Roberts, the two-act play is a slightly darker and more cutthroat version of the film adaptation. However, the focus remains on the four main characters (an aspiring writer, an ex-stripper, a doctor, and a photographer) and what they’re willing to do to get the people and things that they want. With clever dialogue, raw sexual tension, and a harsh look at how people are willing to treat the ones they “love,” Closer is a dramatic portrayal of all the little ways we lie to one another-- and the consequences, big and small. Closer is showing at 8pm on May 19th and 6pm on the 20th at the Actor’s Story theater (a few minutes from downtown). The show is directed by DTT vet, Rachael Brownell, and it promises to be a captivating show. When asked about the show Rachael said, “I’m looking forward to working with some well known members of the DTT and some new ones. This show has always been of interest to me and we’ve been waiting a long time to get it on stage. I’m really excited to get it out there and share it with everyone.” The roles of the 4 troubled characters are filled by a mix of veterans and newcomers in Simon Swain, Alex Hernandez, Christopher Hodgson, and Lorna A Camacho Souchet. Tickets are 10,000 won, and reservations by sending an email to daegutheatre@gmail.com. In addition, following the show an after-party will be held at JJ’s Bar and Grill in the heart of the downtown area. Further details, check us out on facebook.

DAEGU STAMP TRAIL
The Daegu Stamp Trail Written and photographs submitted by Chris Anderson / Blog URL: http://christopheranderson.information-here.com/

or those of us living in and around Daegu, it’s sometimes difficult to know which local attractions are worth visiting. If you are one of those people who has not gotten out there and seen much of Daegu yet, or would love to do something a little different, then I would highly recommend the "Daegu Stamp Trail" as an excellent way to see our city. As most readers might not be aware of the Daegu Stamp Trail, here’s a brief introduction. Many cities in and around Korea have
their own tourist attractions, and in order to promote their cities they produce a “stamp trail” or “stamp tour”. A stamp trail/tour is basically a suggested list of locations within a certain area that the local tourism body would like tourists to visit. When I mentioned the Daegu Stamp Trail to my co-workers, none of them knew what I was on about. Although it’s been running for several years now, it’s not very well known. The basic point of the
Daegu Stamp Trail is for tourists and residents alike to get out into the city and see what Daegu has to offer. For those of you that are interested and want to see more of this colorful city, the stamp trail booklets are easily available. You can get them at any of the tourism information booths in Daegu (the small booth close to the stage in Dongseongro (close to the stage), or just outside Daegu Station), and one stamp booklet will cost KRW1000. This KRW1000 might just end up being the best money you spend on touring in Daegu, and it can be the gateway to many places in Daegu that you have not yet thought of visiting, or were not even aware of yet. A quick heads-up – if you want to get rewarded for completing the stamp tour, the booklet needs to be filled in before October 30th 2012. This does not really leave
The 30 sites that are listed in the 2012 Daegu Stamp Trail are (in the order that they are in the booklet): 1: Gyeongsang-gamyeong Park and the Daegu Modern History Museum. 2: Daegu Yangnyeongsi. 3: Old Residence of Lee Sang-Hwa and the Old Residence of Seo Sangdon. 4: Daegu Hyanggyo Confucian Academy. 5: Gukchae-bosang Memorial Hall and Gukchae-bosang Memorial Park. 6: Dalseong Park. 7: EXCO. 8: Bullo-dong Tomb Park.

9: Otgol Village (Gyeongju Choe’s Head House). 10: Arbor Vitae Forest at Do-dong. 11: Donghwasa Temple. 12: Bangjja Yugi Museum. 13: Pagyesa Temple. 14: A Historic Site of General Sin Sung-gyeom. 15: Buinsa Temple. 16: Gatbawi. 17: Daegu National Museum. 18: Daegu Stadium. 19: Nokdong-seowon Confucian Academy. 20: Herbhillz. 21: Spa Valley. 22: Myogol Village (Yukshinsa
Shrine). 23: E World. 24: Mt. Apsan Observatory. 25: Inheung Village (Nampyeong Moon Clan’s Original Residence Area). 26: Daegu Arboretum. 27: Yongyeonsa Temple. 28: Hwawon Resort. 29: Dodong-seowon Confucian Academy. 30: Mt. Biseulsan Natural Forest Resort. So now that you have no excuse not to do the stamp trail, get out there and do it! Happy stamping!
STAMP TRAIL
too much time for you to complete the tour, but if you get at least a stamp or two a week you should be well on your way to getting something for your efforts. However, if you don’t finish by October 30th, you can still complete the stamp trail, but you won’t get any rewards for doing so. You will still have your completed stamp trail booklet, and all the memories that go along with those stamps. Rewards, I hear you say? Sorry to say, but there most likely won’t be any monetary gifts. The good news is that you will get something unique to Daegu. A quick chat to the kind operator at Daegu’s Tourist Information Center (053-1330) got me this information: A stamp trail pocket book completed before the deadline will result in the “tourist” getting a small gift (most likely something small – no specifics were given), and a certificate which gives them the honorary title of being a Goodwill Tourism Ambassador for Daegu City (the wording on the certificate could be a bit different, but this is still really cool). These gifts will be given at a ceremony which will most likely be held at the tourist information office in Duryu Park. As there are certain readers here who will be back home by October 30th, there might still be something that can be done for you if you complete the tour before you leave. If in doubt, call the tourist information offices (053-1330). If you get yourself a stamp trail booklet, you’re going to need to start filling it up with stamps. When you have visited a location you need to look out for an office or tourism booth. This office is where you will be able to get your booklet stamped, and most likely get some extra information about the attraction that you are visiting. Remember to visit between 10am and 5pm. If you are lucky then there will be an English guide to show you around as well.
ALL4SKIN - ADVERTORIAL - SKIN CARE Domestic skin, beauty treatment today is attracting the world’s attention. - ‘Hallu wave’ is growing in the medical field, especially dermatoplasty.
Advanced Skin Care
Written by Allforskin Group President Min Pok Kee MD PH.D
The 22nd World Congress of Dermatology was held at the Coex Convention Center in Seoul last May. Dermatologists around the world gather together once every four year to pronounce new technology and studies at the so-called ‘World Dermatology Olympic.’ This meeting is the largest medical conference ever held in the country. Dr. Pokkee Min, the education director of the Association of Korean Dermatologists and the advertising executive of Korea Hair Research Society, gave a lecture as senior person in the area of skin pores and scars. Dr. Min is the head of All For Skin, a medical group that has six branch clinics nationwide. The headquarter and main branch in Daegu, designated as ‘the Leading Institute of Medical Tourism in Deagu’ last December, actively participate in developing new medical technology and promoting medical tourism in the city. Medical doctors and staff from many countries including Dr. Douglas J Grose from Australia, Dr. Sanju

Babu Shresth from Nepal and the professors from Xi’an Vocational College of Begonia, China are rushing to learn the state-of-the-art technology employed at All For Skin. The dermatology group provides a wide range of treatments including laser skin renewal, scar removal, wrinkle care, anti-aging, whitening, hair transplantation treatment, body correction,
and non-surgical face sculpting. Having nearly 70 cutting-edge medical devices, the dermatology clinic introduces highly-developed technology, which is appropriately used according to the purpose of treatment. Other than health professionals, a growing number of overseas tourists also visit All For Skin. The number of overseas visitors was 68 in 2010, but it almost doubled to 104 in 2011. When it comes to their nationalities, U.S. accounts for 39 percent
of the total, followed by China, Japan, India and Vietnam in order. Most patients from the States have concerns about skin aging, so they look for lifting treatment and so-called petit surgery (Botox, Filler, Sculptra, and so on). Asian visitors, mostly from China and Japan, are interested in whitening, and are most satisfied with MeDioStar, a German whitening-lifting laser system. The most popular treatment that medical tourists look for very recently at All For Skin is ‘non-surgical facial sculpting,’ which needs no incision, but uses mainly three procedures: Ulthera Laser; Fine Thread, also called Polydioxanone and authorized by Korea Food and Drug Administration; injection treatment called Scupltra. It is very hard to pick the most reliable clinic in a medical street crowded with aesthetics and dermatologists. The smartest way to choose the best one is to meticulously check the quality of medical equipment and professionals that a clinic has.

His tour schedule, production and record label have solidified him as a protagonist for quality dance music. Presently he is in the studio putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album with EQ Recordings (Balance 021). For information on Fanciulli’s Asian tour check out his website. Nic graciously took some time off to grant us an interview. How did growing up in Maidstone influence your career? Maidstone has definitely had a big impact on my career. We had a thriving electronic music scene in the late 90’s. My favorite club was a place called Atomics; this is where I really learnt about electronic music. Atomics hosted a Friday night called Club Class. All the big names would feature there, from the likes of Sasha & Digweed all the way through to Carl Cox. Then on the Saturday night it would be a drum and bass night called Pure Science,
50
which at the time was the longest weekly drum and bass event in the country. I was exposed to so many styles of music, that it taught me to become more open minded and creative in what I was playing myself. When I became resident for Club Class it was the best feeling. This was my hometown and I was playing at the best night in the area. Week in week out I would get to warm up for the likes of Pete Tong and Paul Oakenfold, so each week would be different, but my job was to always make the crowd ready for the main DJ. This is where I learnt to become a real DJ as I think it’s the hardest part of DJing. I got a lot of help from the guests that played and I still owe them all so many thanks for the help they gave me. I think that’s why I still always try and push new talent, as I wouldn’t be here now without the help of my peers. What do you attribute to your success as a DJ/producer? I would have to say my residency at my local club night Club Class. As I mentioned before, it was a place that used to invite all these remarkable guests, so I learnt to be very adaptable in certain situations from opening the night to
closing the night and everything in-between. Every week would be a different situation, and I learned from my mistakes. You need to read the crowd and also recognize the time and place to play certain records. This was an area that I made mistakes in during the early part of my career, but I learnt quickly to fix them. I also learnt a lot from the guys that used to play week in week out. The majority of the DJ’s were genuinely nice people and did not forget we all started in the bedroom making mix tapes. Once I was happy with my DJ’ing, I wanted to learn how to make music. I got put in touch with a producer named Andy Chatterley and we started making records. We collaborated under the moniker Skylark. He

was the guy that basically taught me everything in the studio. I owe him so much. What was your initial reaction when you were nominated for a Grammy? Shock. I think it was because I never imagined that a deep house record would be on their radar. We were up against the likes of Madonna and Coldplay. We didn’t win, but it was something that I’m really proud about. Who is your favorite artist at the moment? I think James Blake did a great job to create a very underground sound and getting it to the masses. Of course, from the house music world there are some really exciting new artists like &ME, Clio, Philip Bader, Andrea Olivia and Alex Tepper that are really influencing my sound at the moment. What are your best/worst mo-
Is there a track that you never get tired of playing out? Laurent Garnier — “Man with the Red Face.” This is one of those records that we all dream about making. It’s a record that you could never imagine writing. In fact, it really is that clever! I only have to play a second of the record and people know exactly what it is. To sum it up, this track is a complete masterpiece and so ahead of its time when it first came out. Do you feel that technology is replacing or improving a DJ’s set? I think technology evolves constantly and audience’s expectations are changing all the time, so you constantly have to adapt, whether that’s through technology, music choice or mixing styles. Technological advances are always exciting, but there’s a certain character and feel to playing vinyl that cannot be replicated. I’ve chosen to use Traktor with CD controllers. I find that I still get the hands on approach by using
the CDJ’s but then I get the added bonus of having lots more music and EFX’s. At the end of the day all that matters is that people are enjoying themselves and having fun on the floor. How does one make the transition from DJ to producer? As a DJ you learn to see what works and what doesn’t, which is always a good start. Then after that you have to really learn the hardware. Nowadays, it’s so much easier as computers make the whole process that much easier. What was your vision when you created your record label Saved? It was originally a label to release my own music. But then I realized people would get bored of just my own music. We were getting sent so many amazing records that I wanted to sign too, so it just made sense. Our vision is simple — if it’s good and I play it, we will put it out. What can we expect from Nic Fanciulli? Wow that’s a hard one to answer about yourself. I think that I always try and bring enjoyment with the music I play and I also like to throw in a few surprises, like a special re-edit of an old record that I did. Every set is different, but I always play with the same goal of bringing energy to the night. CHEONGDO TOUR REVIEW
Grabbing the Bull by the Horns! W Written by Wendy Seng / Photos by Stephanie Gall
hile some well-rested participants arrived on time at 8:45AM to the departing buses, others rolled out of bed at 8:30AM rushing after enduring the aftermath of a fun-filled night. No matter what their story, everyone on the two buses had one common anticipation on that gloomy, wet Saturday morning; the Cheongdo Bullfighting Festival! For only 30,000 won, participants experienced a delicious and entertaining agenda: wine tasting at the Wine Tunnel, Bullfighting Festival in Cheongdo (an hour and a half away from Daegu), and
After indulging on these treats, people were able to explore the tunnel further, which ended to a perfect photo op with a luminous light display of a wine glass. Like Mark, most participants left the tunnel a bit tipsy. Perhaps they should rename the tunnel into, the “Tipsy Tunnel”. Let’s get ready to rumble! On this rare occasion of gambling in this neck of South Korea, the audience at the Bullfighting Festival are allowed to place bets from 1,000 strawberry picking. While the event itinerary was perfect, the weather was wet, wet, wet! No matter the condition, people entered the 107 year-old tunnel to get wine-wasted. Participants received cheese, crackers and a tasting of two white wines: one dry and one very sweet. One fellow, Mark Salas, appreciated the history of the tunnel and described the Persimmon wine as, “uniquely sweet and memorable”.

won and up. Each round matches a red-stamped bull (Redbull) versus a blue-stamped bull (Blue Balls), so you place your bets on whichever your gut feels lucky towards. Prior to the rumble, six referees are presented, and then the two bulls are escorted to the dirt-battlefield. The bulls knock heads and joust at each other with their hard, stiffening horns. Whichever bull runs away is the loser, and the other is proclaimed as the victor. Lady Luck, Stacey Riches got a little richer by winning 10,000 won and was interviewed by KBS, a Korean national T.V. broadcasting channel. She stated that, “The bullfight was awesome and I had fun! Getting interviewed was funny”. Whether you win or lose, this exciting Bullfighting Festival left their audience feeling anything but “bullshit”. Lastly, participants were able to pick and bring home 5 grams of sweet, succulent, sexy strawberries. Dhaima Williams expressed her love for strawberries, “I ate more than I picked. I love strawberries, so in a sense, it was an all you can eat buffet. The folks were super nice. I had an amazing time!” Hopefully, the hilarious and rambunctious group at the back of the buses will remember this culture and life-enriching event. Despite the rain, participants seemed to make the most out of this wonderful experience. About 90% of the time, from being at the events to riding in the buses, you will hear genuine laughter. The other 10% of the time is snoring. Similar to the feeling after a climactic moment, the Cheongdo Bullfighting Festival event left their participants wet and satisfied.

Suseong Lake area is one of the classiest places in Daegu. A perfect date area. After taking your sweetheart out to a nice meal, I’d recommend Napoli, Ganga, La Bella Cucina or New York New York, take a stroll around Suseong Lake until you come upon the famous ‘duck boats’ and paddle your way into each other’s hearts. Next, swing by the minature golf course and Suseong Land. Thanks to the photogs who took the great pics you see here. Aygul Sarvarova, Jeremy Taylor and Chanel Barlow. Photos by Aygul Sarvarova, Chanel Barlow and Jeremy Taylor
Suseong Lake area offers a change of pace to the hustle and bustle of downtown. Suseong Lake also boasts an amusement park (Suseong Land) reminiscent of those carnivals you went to with your parents at the local fair ground. There’s something to be said when you are on the back of the seahorse with a safety bar that barely locks you in place as you float for a few brief seconds in mid-air before being plunged back down in your seat. Thrilling, exhilarating are just a few choice words to descrribe the experience.

DAEGU RUNNING CLUB - HEALTHY LIVING
Running for Health and Charity. That’s WINNING! Written and photographed by Sara Tilley
A
fter a quick search, everfaithful Google breaks the news: Koreans are particularly keen on running and competing in marathons. Korea is home to over a million runners and hosts hundreds of road races each year. Many runners have even travelled outside of Korea to compete in international marathons. It’s official-- Koreans love to run. Yet, I can’t help but ask myself: where are all the runners? I have been running around Daegu for 8 months without seeing a single Korean runner. My boyfriend has seen two though, so I feel compelled to mention this here. There is one foreign runner in my area, but he always seems to be running away from me! Running is often considered an individual sport. While this might be true for elite athletes, it certainly isn’t true for recreational runners. There is a great sense of camaraderie, accountability and fun when you run with a group. And so, after months of running
alone, ignoring the stares that a solo waygook runner comes to know all too well, and of relying on only myself for warnings of oncoming scooters and cars on sidewalks, I decided that enough was enough—Daegu needed a running club. On April 14th 2012, Daegu
Running Club was launched with our first Saturday morning run at Keimyung University. Total participants: Five. Our numbers may have been small, but we got out there and had a gorgeous run among the rows of cherry blossoms. As one of Korea’s top 10 most beautiful university campuses, Keimyung is the ideal backdrop for any run, and offers a great opportunity to explore another part of Daegu. Daegu Running Club is a social club for runners of all abilities-from beginner to advanced—that meets every Saturday morning at 10am, Keimyung University station (exit 1). Runners will be divided into groups based on their comfort level, and will reconvene at a nearby coffee shop afterwards, where members will get to know one another better.
70
DAEGU RUNNING CLUB
In addition, Daegu Running Club is offering a 10week “Learn to Run Beginner Clinic”. The clinic is designed to introduce novice runners to a support system that will allow them to progress from a would-be runner to a group runner. Each week we will discuss a different topic, ranging from proper hydration and nutrition, to selecting the perfect running shoe for your foot type. Since arriving in Korea, my passion for running has been matched only by my passion for animal welfare, and I dedicate as much time as possible to both of these interests. The Korean Animal Protection Society (KAPS) in Daegu has become my home-away-from-home (away from home!), and all proceeds from the running clinic will be donated to the KAPS Fostering Program, which moves rescue animals from KAPS shelters into foster homes that provide veterinary care, rehabilitation, socialization, and love. Three years ago, I made one of the best decisions of my life by joining a “learn to run” clinic at a running store in Canada. I had considered taking the clinic for a year and never thought I could be a “runner”. The funny thing is, most other runners I speak to say they felt the same way. If you’ve ever considering running, there’s no better time than the present! Daegu Running Club Email us: daegurunningclub@gmail.com

Wash it down with a nice mango lassi and you have yourself an aroma massage for your stomach! Check out the Suseong-gu Compass map on p65 for directions. Indo Bang Rangi - 3F Restaurant
Sanjay welcomes you! Renovated and redesigned last year, this Indian restaurant is famous for it’s curries. The chef is from India and speaks English very well. Plus, he’s super friendly and will answer all your existential Indian food questions. The restaurant is located on the 3rd floor right across from Kyungdae Buk Moon (north gate). Check the Kyungdae Compass map on p64 for directions. 11am - 10pm everyday (except major holidays)

Maya - 2F Restaurant
A wood-fired tandoor oven seeps into your senses as you enter the door to this fantastic Indian/Nepali restaurant. Relatively new to Daegu, about 2 years old now, this restaurant is a great escape from the retro-urban decor that most Daegu restaurants display. A cozy interior with exotic tapestries of the far east adorning the walls. Reasonable prices and great Thali sets round out this establishment. Check the Kyungdae Compass map on p64 for directions. 11:00am to 11:00pm everyday (closed Mondays)

Nepalese/Indian
Western
The Canadian owner of Daegu’s legendary downtown restaurant lived in Sangin Dong when he first arrived in Daegu back in 2000. Eleven years later, he’s opened his second location back in the neighbourhood where it all started. Epic hot sandwiches like the Philly Cheese Steak, Bacon & Cheese Holy Cow burger, Santo Burrito or the best selling Cajun Smothered Chicken. Eat it, take out or have it delivered to your school or home.
