USAG Daegu Aquatics Periodically, you may experience interruptions in operations at any of the aquatics facilities. There are many factors that can, and sometimes do, influence daily operations. Some of those are: mechanical system malfunctions, chemical control issues, fecal incidents, regurgitation, and/or other emergencies, and occasionally due to staffing fluctuations. Specifically at the Camp Walker Aquatics Center, there are challenges that are faced every day. Rest assured, FMWR, DPW, and other entities are working issues constantly in an effort to remedy problems due to design and construction issues. We at USAG Daegu Aquatics appreciate your patronage. The USAG Daegu Aquatics staff are on task to ensure we maintain a clean, healthy, and safe swimming environment for all patrons who utilize the Camp Walker Aquatics Center and the Camp Carroll Aquatics Centers. We appreciate your assistance in ensuring a clean, safe, and health swimming environment for everyone to enjoy. Following some of these simple steps will help maintain clean and healthy swimming environments and keep you and your family members safe while enjoying the Camp Walker or Camp Carroll Aquatics Centers: • Please remove your shoes before going on to the pool deck. • Please wear proper swimming attire. • Please put long hair (shoulder length or longer when wet) into a hair elastic or swim cap. Please, no plastic or metal clips. • Please shower before entering the pool. • Please only bring water in a clear plastic bottle into the pool area. No other food or drinks are allowed in the pool area. • Use a baby carrier on the pool deck instead of a stroller. • Stay away from drains and suction fittings. • Please do not swim if you are sick or have open wounds.
New Swim Test Standards, for all USAG Daegu aquatics centers, effective 1 June 2016 Come in for a FREE swim test, and swim for FREE, 1 June through 17 June (only one FREE daily swim session will be allowed during this introductory time)! New Swim Test Standards, for all USAG Daegu aquatics centers, effective 1 June 2016: 25 meters swimming on front 25 meters swimming on back 1 minute treading water or floating, or a combination of the two 5 meter underwater swim from a push off We want to ensure a safe swimming season, and consistency with respect to usage of such amenities as water slides, especially with new amenities at our outdoor aquatics center; therefore, new swim test standards are being implemented. All children and youth, up to 17 years of age must take the new swim test in order to use water slides and swim in the deep end. (Please note that any depth more than 5 feet is considered deep water, IAW TB-MED 575.) By successfully passing the swim test, the participant has sufficient swimming skills to swim in the deep end and use the water slides at any USAG Daegu Aquatics facility. The application will remain on file at Camp Walker and Camp Carroll Aquatics Centers, so you only have to take it once if you pass! Please note that a Lifeguard has to administer the swim test, therefore, please wait until one is available. 62 FMWR Outlook
Attention Fitness Center Patrons The USAG Daegu Fitness Centers are now using a more streamlined ticketing process for Fitness Classes. The new process is fast, efficient, and completely virtual! Patrons that currently have paper fitness coupons should return them to either the Camp Walker Kelly Fitness Center or the Camp Carroll Fitness Center. Once the old coupon(s) are returned, Fitness Center Staff will transfer the passes into credits under the Patron's Household. Account within the RecTrac Program. Please be mindful that a Household Account must be established before passes are transferred. If you need to create an account, Fitness Center staff will be happy to assist! It's quick, easy, and ultimately eases access to our facilities. Please return all paper coupons by June 30th. After this date, we will no longer honor the old fitness coupons. For more information, feel free to visit or call the Camp Walker Kelly Fitness Center (764-4800) or the Camp Carroll Fitness Center (765-8118). We appreciate your cooperation.

Descended from the Samurai arts of Japan, Aikido gives kids the skills to develop greater confidence and awareness. Aikido is a non-competitive Japanese Martial Art for self defense. Physical benefits include conditioning, balance, timing, motor skill development, coordination, flexibility, and agility. Emotional benefits include staying calm and controlled in stressful situations, ability to react to stressful scenarios in a calm manner, self confidence, and determination. Among social benefits, children learn that there are alternatives to fighting, through discipline and cooperation. Through a variety of Aikido techniques, games, weapons and controlled partner practice, children learn the core principles of Aikido, stepping out of the line of attack, redirecting the opponents energy, and recognizing the unbalanced nature of violence. The Samurai Camp is filled with Aikido techniques, fun, and games. Please wear athletic gear and bring a healthy light snack and bottled water.

Daegu Arts Center
Arts Academy for Foreigners JangGu Class The Daegu Arts Center near Duryu Park will start offering traditional Korean instrument lessons for novices. City residents and foreigners of of all ages are welcome to join us. Some experience with drums would be beneficial but is not required. Taking JangGu Classes is a fun and relaxing way to enjoy Korean culture. JangGu is a traditional Korean instrument still used frequently today, so it feels good to be a part of the culture in that way. You can learn a lot of rhythms on the drum, and the classes are easy and laid back. Our teacher is great! He’s a true pro at the drum.
