Gwanghalluwon Garden was originally built by Hwanghee Jeongseung in 1419 during the reign of Joseon Dynasty’s King Sejong. Because of its surreal beauty, Governor Jeong In-ji gave the garden the name ‘Gwanghallu’ in 1444, comparing it to a palace on the moon. It is famous as the location where Lee Mong-ryong and Chunhyang (two lovers from a well-known Korean folk story) first met. In the 1920’s Chunhyangsa Temple was established in the neighboring area and a portrait of Chunhyang was hung in a place of honor. Chunhyang Theme Park in the Namwon Tourist Complex in Namwon City, Jeollabuk-do province celebrates the story of Chunhyang, a love story similar to that of Romeo and Juliette. Set in the Joseon Dynasty, the story tells of the secret love between Chunhyang (the daughter of a former courtesan) and Mong-ryong (the son of a local governor). Refund/Cancellation Policy: If FMWR cancels the trip, a full refund will be provided to participants. If participant cancels less than 48 hours prior to trip, no refund will be issued. 16 FMWR Outlook
Why it pays to SWIPE Your SWIPE Counts Family and MWR Programs use secure online technologies at many of the Army facilities you use every day. You can support your local MWR with a simple SWIPE of your ID Card. Many recreation centers, fitness centers and other FMWR locations at your garrison participate in the SWIPE program. Look for a kiosk or scanner at the entrance to one of these facilities. By swiping your CAC card (or other form of identification if appropriate), you’re giving us valuable information to support improved access to services, expand program offerings and make facilities better.
SWIPE is:
Smart- Help determine which programs and services you want. Worldwide- Ensure quality of life programs and services are available worldwide. Interactive- We depend on your input to identify where we can make improvements. Promise- Help MWR fulfill our promise to provide you with quality programs and services. Enhancements- You have the power to make our services and programs even better. FMWR Outlook 17

June 20-24 July 11-15 & 25-29 August 1-5 & 8-22
Time: 0900-1200 Class Fees: $70 per session (Ages 9 & up) Descended from the Samurai arts of Japan, Aikido gives kids the skills to develop greater confidence and awareness. Aikido is a non-competitive Japanese Martial Art for self defense. Physical benefits include conditioning, balance, timing, motor skill development, coordination, flexibility, and agility. Emotional benefits include staying calm and controlled in stressful situations, ability to react to stressful scenarios in a calm manner, self confidence, and determination. Among social benefits, children learn that there are alternatives to fighting, through discipline and cooperation. Through a variety of Aikido techniques, games, weapons and controlled partner practice, children learn the core principles of Aikido, stepping out of the line of attack, redirecting the opponents energy, and recognizing the unbalanced nature of violence. The Samurai Camp is filled with Aikido techniques, fun, and games. Please wear athletic gear and bring a healthy light snack and bottled water. 64 FMWR Outlook
