Growing up in Kansas and northern Oklahoma, Bill learned how to work cattle and horses at his grandfather’s ranch and sale barn. RQ Horsemanship is named for his grandfather Riley Quillen (RQ) who taught him everything he knows. RQ gave him his first experience on a horse when he was five. He put him on Rocky and said, “Pull left, pull right, pull back to stop, and don’t fall off.” Then he slapped her on the haunches and down the road they went! As a young adult, Bill enjoyed team penning and greatly advanced in his skills with horses. He’s lived in Iowa for 14 years where he lives and trains on a farm south of Indianola. Good horsemanship is a skill that must be learned and practiced. He wants to share his decades of experience as a horseman with you so you can get the most out of your relationship with your horse.
