Quentin Tarantino Box Set
The Brief
Create a collectors edition box set for Quentin Tarantino, in conjunction with the new Tarantino film being released, The Hateful Eight. Choose 6-12 films to put in the box set.
Background
Quentin Tarantino is a writer and director of films. He also appears in most of the films that he directs. His films consist of violence and implied violence. With the Hateful Eight being released late 2015, a collectors box set couldn’t be released at a better time.

Research
Quentin Tarantino Boxset
Consider how many films will be in the box set an which films they are. Researching into how many other box sets include, how their packaging works and how interactive they are. Each collectors box set includes a publication about the films, this is something that has been included in the Tarantino box set.
Branding & Packaging
Brief 10
Sales show that successful box sets that have been sold mostly have packaging that is a box with a lid, or one that opens from the side with a flip top. The target audience is Quentin Tarantino phenatics. People who enjoy watching his films or violent action films. Also people who enjoy collecting films, therefore using dark colours and themes would be appropriate.

Concept and Development.
The concept for the box set is to have an implied theme throughout. Similar to the films. The covers of each film are one of the most iconic scenes in the film, but zoomed into the scene, this shows the crucial parts of the scene, and allows Tarantino fans to identify each of the films, whilst someone who doesn’t know the films wouldn’t always recognise which the film is.
Using dark colours, reds and yellows relate to Tarantino and the colour schemes that he usually goes for in his films. Using black on black is aesthetically pleasing whilst enforcing the idea of the violence being implied as if it is part of the structure and the background.

DVD Covers.
Quentin Tarantino Boxset
Each DVD cover consists of the most iconic scenes in each of the films (determined from questionnaires taken by Tarantino Phenatics), zoomed into them to show the important parts so that the films are recognised but not too obvious. Using as little colour as possible, and minimal detail the scene are displayed clearly but in a mysterious and implied way.

Figure 4 The Cover
The box set is in keeping with the covers and the colour scheme throughout. The smoke on the cover is showing implied violence like smoke from a gun being shot, and the red blood. Branding and crafting is so important for this brief, as the box set should look real and that it could be found in a shop and meet the standard of Tarantino’s films.

The Publication
Quentin Tarantino Boxset
Research showed that most collectors box sets have publications inside, as this is about Tarantino and his films, this is what the publication inside is about. Having information graphics about the films and about him as a person makes the information more aesthetically pleasing, and interacts with the audience more.
