COMPUTER TIP Bitcoin Scam makes a return A nasty bitcoin scam from the middle of 2018 is circulating again. The scam involves sending you an email with your own address as the ‘from’ and saying that the hacker has accessed your computer, got all your passwords and you have two days to respond – or else! They try to make it sound scary saying they’ve got a video (from your webcam) viewing adult websites and the threat is that they will send this to all your contacts unless you pay a Bitcoin ransom. The truth is that it’s a lot of nonsense! They may have quoted one old password from some time ago (in which case change it) but they do NOT have access to your computer or anything else! More details on facebook.com/callonken.

From the coffee shop to the hairdressers… we have decided that Kip has become the talk of the town! We have all experienced a visit to the hairdressers and come away learning something. Sometimes just gossip, other times an insight into someone else’s life Above the noise of the hairdryers and general hubbub customers have to raise their voices somewhat and this is exactly what happened to Jo’s aunt on her recent visit to her local hairdresser. The lady having her hair done in the chair next to her began a conversation about her grandson. We don’t know his name but Gran was telling her stylist and anyone who’d listen, all about him and how worried she’d been about him 6 months previously. He was happy at school but difficulties with maths and spelling were beginning to take their toll. She talked about how she had seen her daughter become more and more concerned as he was ‘’feeling poorly’’ or his ‘’tummy hurt’’ on several occasions but a visit to the doctors showed nothing wrong with him. It became clear that he was avoiding school. Even a talk with the teacher didn’t shed any light on why he was so unhappy. The teacher admitted that he was struggling a bit with his Maths and English, but wasn’t alone in that respect. She did add that his best friend was now on another maths table though. Gran told the stylist that her grandson had been become increasingly stressed about going to school and all her daughter’s attempts at home to help him had ended up in tears over the kitchen table and both of them quite miserable.
Gran said she had seen one of our Kip stories in a magazine and had decided to follow up with a phone call just to see if it might be of use to her grandson. She said the lady who took the call, Jo, was very friendly and helpful and offered a free assessment for her grandson just to measure what he could achieve and what he struggled with. Gran said she nervously took her grandson along, but Jo soon had her grandson chatting, laughing and showing her what he could do with great pride. Jo could tell what he couldn’t do from the assessment and offered to help him. Gran said after 6 months at Kip he was a changed boy, no longer dreading school, no longer afraid to have a go or worried about getting it wrong. He is thrilled with his ability to use what he’s learned at Kip, at school. She said the change in his confidence and self-esteem is amazing! The stylist had never heard of Kip but got chapter and verse from the happy Gran, everything from the free assessment to the individual lesson plans and biscuits! Jo’s aunt didn’t tell the Gran who she was but was very excited to pass on the good news! So a big thanks to all those grandparents out there who are spreading the word. If you have a grandchild needing help call
Jo now for a free assessment on 01629 56611

Derbyshire Community Bank is the trading name for Erewash Credit Union.

What we are not: Ÿ A trade union Ÿ A poor man’s bank – we offer financial services for all tiers of the local community and can compete with other financial institutions on the products we offer Ÿ Pawn brokers. Not for profit: Ÿ No big shareholders Ÿ No banker’s bonuses – any profits that are made by a CU are ploughed back into services or paid as a dividend to members Ÿ Some Members say that they see CU’s as the ethical alternative to banks
CU’s owned and controlled by their members: Once you join a Credit Union, and by maintaining a £1 running balance, you become a voting member of that CU and can have a say in how it is run at our AGM. Some of our members take up posts on the CU board and take a more active role in shaping the way the CU operated.
