THINK DIFFERENT about your Weight goal Being overweight is a depressing...and I should know, I struggled with my weight for what seems like forever. Up and down the scales like a yo yo. Every January I would join a weight loss club like thousands of others, but after a few weeks I became disinterested in counting calories or spending time, and a lot of money, preparing food from scratch, so old habits would creep back in and by Easter I was back where I started....again!! So last year I decided to try something different as I was fed up doing the same diets over and over again and not getting the results. I was introduced to The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan and what a revelation!! I've lost 3 stone, and kept it off with The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan and it is the easiest plan I have ever tried, and believe you me, I have tried them all!! I decided to become a 1:1 Diet Consultant so I could help others 'THINK DIFFERENT' and change the cycle of continuing to lose and regain that same weight over and over again. Before

THREE STRIKES AND YOU’RE OUT… I came across this question recently and it really challenged me: “what if you could only complain about 3 things per day?”. The question requires you to put yourself in some parallel universe where each day you are gifted 3 complaints, criticisms or judgements and then once they are used up, you are struck dumb for the rest of the day. How long would it take you to? Breakfast? Lunch? It certainly made me think. Revisiting a typical day I have to concede that I typically use up my 3 ‘strikes’ quite early and also waste them on some insignificant little things like the driving habits of pretty much everyone else on the road, what’s in the news and typically (because I’m British aren’t I?)… the weather. This bothers me. You see I am an optimist; an encourager, and I hope a compassionate person, well known by my friends and family (and clients) as having a sunny, bright disposition. And yet, despite this, run a ‘complaints audit’ on what’s coming out of my mouth on a typical day and it seems that I can be pretty grouchy and liberal with my complaints and criticisms. We all know someone who can pee on every bonfire; find some fault even with something that is essentially good: “ it was a good film although I didn’t like x actor”. These people are usual in a permanent state of discontent, usually comparing everything and everyone with others and finding them wanting in some way. I say ‘these people’ but maybe the truth is that often that’s my behaviour too. One of my

sisters sees something of this in herself, a need, almost a drive to give balance by giving multiple points of view. She doesn’t see it as coming from a place of negativity and certainly I don’t see her as someone always wanting to find criticism. But it’s tricky …. I challenge you to take a listen to yourself, not just to see how quickly you use your 3 ‘strikes’, but also to see if you can recognise the negative ‘counter’ added in to something that is essentially good: “it was a really good meal… not the best I’ve ever had, but good non the less”. We see this at work in Social Media all the time. I can’t count the number of Facebook groups I’ve left because of the constant air of criticism. One that springs to mind is a group for people who like using Chalk Paint for projects in their homes. Some householder would innocently post a picture of their newly painted front door with a comment about how happy and proud they are of it. Like a shot the replies come in , “yuck that colour is dreadful” or “are you going to leave your windows like that?”. Opinions, opinions that NO ONE asked for! Thankfully they’ll usually be some kind souls who celebrate with the householder (even if it IS hideous). So tomorrow as you wake, I challenge you to set yourself 3 Strikes and see how long you last before you’re out! I’ve love to know. Drop me a note and let me know would you?

This was truly a gift that kept on giving Sometimes it is difficult to find a gift for your children or their families when they are proud people and don’t want ‘charity’, yet you know they could be struggling to make ends meet. I solved this and wanted to share my solution with you. But first a little about my family. My daughter Ruth and husband Mike are both NHS frontline workers, and they have three children Sienna aged 10, Frank aged 8 and little William aged 5. We all get along really well and see each other regularly so that’s how I know that things can be financially tough for them. With Christmas only a few months away my husband and I tried to find a way of giving something that would last longer than the latest toy or electronic gadget. I collect the children from school on Tuesdays and Fridays for Ruth, so I know the teachers really well now. One week Frank’s teacher stopped me as I collected him and asked how much reading he did at home because he was behind in his reading levels. I was shocked and discussed it with Ruth and Mike who were aware Frank was a little behind in his reading but with their shifts it was really only my husband and I who actually heard him read at home. It worried me, not his being behind, but that Frank thought he was ‘thick’ and that he would never be any good at reading. Then I met an old neighbour of ours and in the conversation over coffee catching up about the families she told me that her granddaughter, who is the same age as Frank, had also struggled with her reading until she went to Kip and a lady named Jo. She said that her granddaughter had improved her reading age by two years in six months with Jo. I contacted Jo who was lovely and was very happy to meet Frank, have a chat and do a free assessment to find his true ability levels in English, Spelling and Maths. Immediately I went round to Ruth and Mike

and asked if it was ok to get Frank tested. They were ok with it but very concerned that, as Kip is private, it would be outside their budget. I managed to stop myself offering to pay for it and arranged for Frank to meet Jo the following week. Jo really got on with Frank and he loved her and came out saying that Jo said he wasn’t ‘thick’ and that every time he made a mistake it meant he was getting cleverer about finding out how to get things right. Also, his Maths was very much higher than his age which made him very happy and proud of himself. On walking him home he said, ‘Grandma can I go and see Jo and do some of her fun stuff on the computer next week?’ I said, ‘Well we will see what mummy and daddy have to say.’ At this point his little face fell and he said ‘They’ll say no because we don’t have any money’. We talked to them, and as Frank was so keen to go back to Jo, we said we would give Frank the present of 10 weeks with Jo and see how that went. They agreed and Frank was really, really happy with that and so it all began… Now 6 months later Frank is still with Jo and he is a new man! So, there you are, a gift to our grandchild that keeps on giving and will open doors that might have remained closed for the rest of his life.

You can call Jo for your initial assessment on 01629 56611
