Coronavirus doesn’t appear to spread through food. COVID19 travels in respiratory droplets, which means you could get sick if an infected person coughs or sneezes near you. Even being in close proximity to someone speaking increases your risk of contracting the virus if they are infected.

Eat Out

Restaurants are understandably keen to encourage customers to return. Lowest risk: Take-away - Food is delivered or picked up and carried off site. Moderate risk: On-site dining outdoor seating, reduced seating capacity and tables placed at least 2m apart. Moderate-high risk: On-site dining indoor seating, reduced seating capacity, and tables placed at least 2m apart. Check ahead. Satisfy yourself that safe practice is being adhered to. Ask if waiters and staff will wear face coverings while on duty, and if seating follows social distancing requirements. Ask if you can

pre-order so that your meal is ready when you arrive. This reduces time spent in the proximity of other people. Check the current level of COVID19 in your community. If the level of community transmission is low it's safer to eat out, but it’s sensible not to eat indoors if you or anyone you live with is aged over 65 or at risk of severe illness.

If you go out with friends from other households don’t share food or drink. Contactless payment is the safest option. When you visit the bathroom wash your hands then use the paper towel you dry them with to open the door, Drop the towel in the bin as you exit. The best way to prevent the spread of the coronavirus or any germs is to wash your hands properly and regularly. When you’re done with your meal, and when you get home, wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, or use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

The book written Matlock Bath A perfectly romantic place by Christopher Charlton and Doreen Buxton traces the history of Matlock Bath as it developed into a prestigeous spa where visitors 'took the waters' in the 18th century. The authors describe how Matlock Bath boomed as the 'trippers paradise' with the arrival of the railway in the 1840s. The book also details the impact of the Arkwright's on the community with the building of Masson Mill and later the role of John Lawton in the 19th century who was the architect of the English Sewing Cotton Company. You can get a copy from the publishers directly by calling 07784 875333 or from shops in Matlock Bath and Matlock.

Re: Rural travels from deep under the earth to the skies, from Derbyshire to the Caribbean in an artistic quest to re-imagine land and landscapes; from a guided meditation through the human body and down to the underworld of living soil, the growing of flax to weave canvases for painting, the drawing of botanical plants on plantation ledgers, and the recreation of potato lazy beds.

Help! How do I get my child ready to go back to school? Throughout the Coronavirus pandemic Kip has continued to work with their students with an online support plan. They have had plenty of time to talk to their parents about their concerns about school reopening and the safety measures in place for their children. Let us share how we are advising them to best prepare their child for a return to school and allay any fears the child may have of catching the virus and giving it to grandparents or mummy and daddy. Have you spoken with your child about the virus much? Are they fearful of meeting others? Do they worry about making a mistake and catching the virus? If you are nervous about sending them back to school, they will pick up on that too and it will increase their fears. We are the adults, we can think logically and be realistic about the risks, but our children are the sum of what they hear us say, what they see and what other people say within their hearing. No 1. Talk to your child during August about how their teachers have been working in and around the schools all the time they have been at home. By September the teachers will know exactly what the children need to do to stay safe and will have plenty of time to explain it to them. No 2. Start making play dates with their friends at home in your garden, or in the park. Familiarise them with reconnecting with their friends face to face and having fun. Picnics where you all prepare your own food can be fun. Make sure they use gel on their hands when out and wash them very well each time they come home.

No 3. Ask them their views on your family’s experience of lockdown. Highlight the good bits and the hard bits. It is easing now, so the way it was different in lockdown can be contrasted with how much fun it will be to be back at school with exciting things to do in class. Ask them how they feel about going back; what are they concerned about? Bringing it out into the open means it is ok to talk about it. No 4. If you have been home schooling as part of the routine it is ok to continue with this to keep them engaged, but it is also ok to make a ‘holiday’ from schoolwork. If you can go away on holiday, then fine, but if not make ‘days out’ the holiday for this year. Many parents worry that their children have missed a lot of education, but if you look at the length of school life then students spend a minimum of 11 years in full time education. 3-4 months won’t make or break their lives. Students doing exams are in a different situation and there will be innovative ways to overcome this. Finally enjoy your summer as a family. Let them get back into school and if at the end of September you feel your child would benefit from extra support then contact Jo for an assessment. The ‘gap’ may not be as wide as you think! Kip can do catch up support sessions with no obligation to a long term learning programme.

Contact Jo for a free assessment on: 01246 220224 or 01629 56611 .

In the UK, the shorts season is, well...short, which means we don't get a lot of practice styling them. Here’s a helpful guide.

For Men

Chino shorts - In a neutral stone or navy they go with almost everything. They're smart enough to wear with a short-sleeved shirt to more casual offices but relaxed enough to wear with t-shirts. Look for a zip fly and button closure, a just above knee length, minimal pockets and details, and a mid-weight cotton twill material. Use a woven belt or a plaited leather belt and wear with sandals (no socks), or lightweight minimal trainers, deck shoes or espadrilles with trainer socks if you prefer. Swim shorts - For maximum versatility (especially when packing for a holiday) choose swim shorts that look like normal shorts. Look for a zip fly; length that hits just above the knee; a solid colour; and fabric that's not too shiny. Shorts which have a drawstring closure

or loud pattern are fine for swimming but won’t double as normal shorts. They go with T-shirts, polo shirts or a linen shirt. Dress them down with flip-flops for the beach but if you go out for dinner choose shoes that are a little smarter such as canvas shoes.

Tailored shorts - If your office is hot and you want to be cool and look smart these are the shorts you need. Tailored shorts have pleats and tucks that help them sit neatly and look elegant. Look for the same things you'd look for in tailored trousers: a good fit, a zip fly with a flap closure, thin belt loops and a sharp crease or pleat down the front of the leg. Wear them with crisp short-sleeved shirts, a lightweight blazer, slip on summer shoes or even brogues (use trainer socks though). In summary, plain is best and if you only invest in one or two pairs, chinos are the most versatile. By Tom Hancock

Friday 17th July to Sunday 9th August. During lockdown while trying to engage my children in schoolwork I discovered that there is a society called Butterfly Conservation. They have organised a nationwide butterfly count every year since 2010. Butterflies are good indicators of the health of our environment because they react very quickly to change in their environment. This makes them excellent biodiversity indicators. The survey counts butterflies and day-flying moths from across the UK, which assists in identifying trends in species. This helps Butterfly Conservation plan how to protect butterflies and understand the effect of climate change. To take part you need to sit in your garden, a park, a wood or forest, or your school field for 15 minutes on a bright sunny day and simply count the butterflies you see. July and August are when most butterflies are at the adult stage of their lifecycle, and hopefully there is more sunshine, so they are more likely to be seen. Count the maximum number of each

species that you can see from your vantage point at a single time. So if you see three Peacock butterflies on the same bush at the same time record it as 3, but if you only see one on a bush at a time then record it as 1, even if you saw one on several occasions. This is so that you don’t count the same butterfly more than once. You can also count while on a walk. Simply add up the number of each butterfly species that you see during the 15 minutes. You can submit separate records for different dates at the same place, and for different places that you visit during the counting period. Even if you don’t see any butterflies or moths your count is still useful. For more information visit www.bigbutterflycount.org Download identification apps for Android or IOS - search for Big Butterfly Count. By Sarah Davey

Escape Rooms have gone online Do you like escape rooms? Have you always fancied having a go at one but never got around to it before lockdown started? Escape rooms became popular over the past couple of years, with families and groups of friends who like a challenge. Kind of like The Crystal Maze (remember that?) in concept where you have to solve puzzles as a team to 'escape the room'. As physical escape rooms have had to close, so these businesses have been quick to adapt and take the experience online. You can play as a family or with groups of friends as a social experience.

are fun. My family enjoyed it but found it quite easy and we were finished very quickly. But we discovered we enjoyed the concept and signed up for others which are more involved. Trapped In The Web is a game you can play solo or with a team to complete tasks that will take between one to two hours. It's reasonably priced at around £8 per person. There are five themed rooms to choose from: Space Race; Cabin Fever; A Night at the Theatre; School’s Out, and Out of Hours. There is a different storyline attached to each one and different clues to collect and puzzles to solve. These family-friendly escape rooms will get you started, but if you find you've got the bug you can find many more complex versions

online.

There are many online; some are free, and some are paid for. the free ones are a good way to try the experience to see if you enjoy it. Hogwarts Digital Escape Room was created by an American librarian in Pennsylvania. It's loosely based on Hogwarts and the puzzles
