Vegas Barbers:Traditional Turkish Barbershop 34-36 Dale Road Matlock Welcome, Vegas Barbers to Matlock where they have just opened their 6th shop on Dale Road, they look to offer you a fantastic Turkish Barbers experience…no appointments necessary.

for male tourists as a relaxing experience and a must when they visit the country.

The majority of the men in Turkey would not dream of shaving themselves every morning. Turkish men visit a barber’s every other day to have a straight edge shave which will last a couple of days. A visit to the barbers is considered a social event where men gather, have a shave and maybe a haircut, drink tea and have a chat.

Our Turkish shave consists of a straight edge shave, threading, flaming, nose hair trim, moisturise, cologne, hot towels applied to the skin and an arm and shoulder massage.

Every year English tourists make the most of this tradition on their holidays to Turkey in cities such as Marmamis, Istanbul, Bodrum and Antalya. The shaves in Turkey are becoming increasingly popular

We at Vegas Barbers have brought this fantastic experience to you in Matlock.

A Vegas haircut will never be rushed and will be finished to perfection, including a process called Singeing which is an easy way of removing unwanted hair from hard to reach places, such as the ear where mechanical tools cannot.

straightaway. We also give a mini arm and shoulder massage with our haircuts as we believe it should be a relaxing experience. Time is taken to allow a gentleman to relax and wind down, ending up with a fantastic haircut which is styled and finished to the customers request. Business owner Mehmet Sabri is pleased with how his business is growing, with many new clients resulting from referrals from satisfied customers.

When ear hair is trimmed it can fall into the ear, which can cause infection, when Singeing, the hair is gone

The Old Picture House, 133 Dale Road, Matlock DE4 3LU

Exciting times are ahead for Peak Insurance Group, as this December they are relocating to the old Picture Palace on Dale Road from their existing building near to William Twiggs Ltd. They have been in their existing building since 2001, serving the local community by offering business and personal insurance and independent financial advice to hundreds of local people. Peak Insurance Services Ltd owner Mark Wainwright is delighted with the new building, Peak Insurance will now have a more spacious reception area and larger offices for Mark his staff and Adrain Purdy from Peak Assured Ltd who is their resident Financial Advisor. Peak Insurance Ltd’s offices will be situated at the front of the building, which will leave ample space towards the back of the building for other projects that Mark intends to undertake in the future. The Picture Palace was opened in 1913. By 1938 Variety was being staged interspersed with film shows. At some time the cinema was renamed Palace Cinema (though it is still listed in the 1953

Kine Year Book as the Picture Palace). The Palace Cinema closed in the 1960’s. The building has had many uses over the years, including an electrical suppliers, and latterly Wheatcrofts and Bamfords Auction Houses. Many of the staff have worked for the group for over 20 years, with Sarah and Jane over 30 years service, which means they are very experienced in quoting for your business, motor or home insurance. They pride themselves on offering a very personal service, and offer expert cover that’s tailored to your needs. They look forward to welcoming you to their new offices very soon. Please contact Peak Insurance Ltd today for a quote. Tel:

SUCCESSFUL RELATIONSHIPS Christmas and Strained Relationships

Unfortunately, not all relationships work nor can be saved, as the time spent ignoring the issues can be extremely damaging in the long run, but it is at times like Christmas that it often comes to light more, and it can be a particularly stressful time for those who are already feeling unhappy, as spending so much time together will highlight the problems. We then wake up on Boxing Day wondering how we can carry on and go through it. Interestingly, the first Monday back to work after the festive break has been dubbed ‘Divorce Monday’ by law practices. So, what should you do? First of all, you need to ascertain how long the issues have been going on for and establish exactly what’s not working anymore. Some of what you see as a problem might actually be a response to your own behaviour or your partner may not even realise that they are doing something that you are deeply unhappy about. We often know that there is a problem, but we put it at the back of our minds. We try and make do, we put on a front because after all, life isn’t that bad, is it? But we unconsciously know that we are kidding ourselves. We are in limbo. We are waiting for better times to come and they just don’t. We become resentful, and maybe a bit jealous of those who seem to have it all too. It can make us a tad bitter but also

very sad indeed, and it is the sadness that is often the most difficult to deal with, as it can easily turn to anger. This is why there are often arguments at Christmas, as they would have been festering for a while. Once you recognise that there is a genuine problem, you have taken the first step towards acceptance, which is also the hardest. It is more of an unconscious acknowledgement to start off with, as it can be quite difficult to admit to yourself. There is an internal battle going on, which is totally normal and a very human reaction. It hurts to concede that there is something wrong but once we have, we want to ‘regain control’. Until then, we are just in a state of self-delusion, failing to recognise the reality of what is really happening. It can be a very painful process to go through, especially as we don’t always feel we can talk about it. After all, what we really want especially at this time of year, is that special someone to be by our side and be happy, so it can make us even more frustrated by the situation. We feel like we deserve and should be getting more… What can’t we have it all? The thing is, and whichever way this is going to go, you need to talk with your partner in a constructive manner, as opposed to just voicing unhelpful generalisations. Yes, it’s obvious but you would be amazed how many people skip that important step. The best way is to be honest and not come from a place of blame. They deserve it and so do you. Breaking up does not have to be the only conclusion that you come to but it’s worth bearing in mind that it is ok to do so if the relationship has run its course. It might be the best outcome for you both. So, if you feel unhappy this Christmas, address it. Burying your head in the sand will only make it worse and drag out a situation that could still be resolved… Sophie Personne is a Relationships Expert and Author. Her first book ‘Your Other Half – The Guide to Better Relationships with Others & Yourself’ is available now. If you want to find out more, visit www.sophiepersonne.com.

Funny the things you learn while walking the dog! Not so long ago, Jo was walking Dilly, her white Staffy, and bumped into the grandma of a previous student named Harry. Grandma Mary was so pleased to be able to tell Jo how well Harry was doing at school but her biggest pride was that Harry was like a different person now. (He is now nearly two years older). Initially he hadn’t been so keen to go to Kip and Mary had agreed to fund the initial 10 sessions with Jo after his assessment. There wasn’t anything fundamentally wrong for Harry but when Jo first met him he had ceased trying in his Maths lessons as he had accepted that he was ‘rubbish at Maths’. Mary told Jo, that from working with her he had realised that getting something wrong, was in fact not a problem but totally ok; it ceased to be a drama! He found that when he got something wrong there were ways of back tracking and looking at it differently in order to see the right answer. Mary was so proud of Harry. She said it was amazing but his whole attitude had completely changed, in class, at home and most importantly how he saw himself. No longer ‘rubbish at anything’ he tried new things in order to begin the process of learning them. At the last parents evening his teacher commented that Harry was first with his hand up in class to proffer an answer, and didn’t mind at all if he was wrong. She also commented that, from being on the lower table for Maths, he was now in top set and on course for good SATs and exam results in future. Lovely for Jo to hear about Harry’s success, but as many parents of primary aged children know, children are very, very quick to self-identify as

‘rubbish’ or ‘no good at’ something. It becomes a rock to hide behind; they get less hassle and are not forced to keep trying. They get drawn into a downward vision of their ability. Usually it is more about their self-belief than actual ability, as had been the case with Harry. The system today judges children on ability in academic subjects, Maths and English for example and they are categorised both by their peers and by themselves. Unlike sport for example, where it is ok to not be so good at say, football. The child may not make the school team but it doesn’t stigmatise them in any way. Many parents with their own ‘Harry’ situation come to Jo for an assessment and ask ‘how long will he/she need to keep coming to Kip?’ In Harry’s case it was as little as 10 weeks and that made it very affordable. Jo has had some students for as little as 4 weeks, when one boy couldn’t ‘get’ fractions it was all he needed. Other children can be 2-3 years behind at assessment and so need longer, but on average Jo sees a 2 year improvement within 6 months for some children. Others go then come back years later for support with SATs or GCSEs. Everyone is different which is why everyone has an individual programme. So if your child feels ‘rubbish’ at something, let Jo work her magic and help them change their self-belief and confidence for years after the 10 weeks or so at Kip.

Let your child experience the Kip effect by calling Jo on 01629 56611 or 01246 220224 for a free assessment.

COMPUTER TIP Keep Safe when Out and About When using your laptop while out and about you need to be aware of the dangers of coffee shops, hotels, etc. any public WiFi where you have no control of it. It is quite possible for hackers to ‘watch’ your connection and steal your sensitive data such as email or facebook passwords so it is important that your data is encrypted. The way to do this is to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN). There are many around and often need you to pay however there are some free ones and they are simple to use, eg. HotspotShield. Install the program and run it whenever you are out and about then just use the internet as normal. More details on facebook or the website.
