WEEK 1
For the first assignment, we were asked to produced freehand drawings of a serif and sans serif typeface. Then we were to label the anatomy of each letterform and give a small summary of its history. My chosen typefaces where Gotham and Didot.
PROJECT 1
WEEK 2
For the second assignment, we were asked to select a 10 to 20-word statement or descriptive copy from a newspaper, advisement, poem or article and design five layouts that explore the copy’s meaning through the use of typographic contrast by creating five separate examples.
PROJECT 2
To be the best, you must be able to handle the worst.
WEEK 2
EXERCISE: TYPOGRAPHIC SIGN
For this exercise, we were asked to create a typographic sign, or logo of our initials. We were to explore 6 possible solutions, and I ended up with four final designs before conclusively choosing one.
WEEK 3
For the third assignment, we were asked to choose 4 words and design 4 separate compositions, arranging each word to express its meaning. The words I chose to express were Contraction, Expansion, Elimination, and Disruption.
PROJECT 3
WEEK 4
For the fourth assignment, we were asked to design our own promotional post card. The Final design features an umbrella logo and rain motifs. The images on the front of the postcard will be embossed with a glossy texture, while the back remains simple, with flat printed images on regular cardstock.
PROJECT 4
WEEK 5
For the fifth assignment, we were given supplied text and told to create a poster with the given information. My final design features a dynamic look with a pencil connecting the title Design Culture Now, and a crumpled notebook paper background.
PROJECT 5
WEEK 5
EXERCISE: THE GRID
For this exercise, we were asked to utilize the grid system when laying out the supplied text. The grid produces a cohesiveness that can improve legibility and the communication of ideas.
WEEK 6
For the sixth and final assignment, we were asked to create an illustrative book cover. My chosen book was a childhood favorite: George’s Marvelous Medicine by Roald Dahl.
