i all! What an issue this one has turned out to be - from starting with multiple small ideas and now releasing an issue close to 160 pages is crazy! This has been one of my favourite issues to create as it features such an incredible diverse set of people - we have Mali and Kylie; a daring fashionable DJ duo that I have watched for quite a while, but have also come to love even more. We also have Erika Hanna of JAEST who I am so excited to watch grow with the launch of her new brand, Meg from MDG Jewellery who creates the most enviable classic pieces (you guys will love her silver horn box chain!), Prinze George a trio who I newly discovered that have the coolest sound, Christiane Spangsberg who I’ve been in awe of as I’ve seen her art work grow and explode on the internet and in the fashion community and finally Aimee Kendall of Aimee-Cherie Intimates; this has been a brand that I’ve followed for a long time and it was great to get to know Aimee as she took us through her success story. And of course I can’t forget the incredible team of people that I got to work with on the day of shooting for Youth. This has been a creative idea of mine for a while so I’m so happy to see it finally come to life. Having my three friends Corrie, Mary and Lauren by my side was an amazing experience, but I also couldn’t have picked a better photographer, MUA and of course the five models who I was more than happy to sit amongst the rooftops of London with. I hope you all love this two-part spread as much as I loved working on it and thanks to the team and all brands that helped in the process! Also, I think it’s time to let our readers know that after our near four-year journey we will be releasing the last issue of Dalliance Magazine in December. We’ve both have had an incredible time whilst watching our small side project grow and we’ve loved spending this time with all of you but as we both have grown as people and as our aspirations have differed we have made the bittersweet decision in deciding to begin new journeys elsewhere. We thank you all; readers, contributors, our friends and family, every member of our team that we have had over the years and of course the industry professionals who have supported us even at the start when we were two highly ambitious and slightly naive teenagers. I hope you enjoy this (rather large) issue and that you join us in saying goodbye on 1st December! See you there x

ello again! As we draw nearer to our date of publishing, the task of writing an editors letter always dawns upon me. What do I write a about? What’s been on my mind this month? What do we hope to achieve with this issue? This month was no different. I won’t lie to you- I was stuck for ideas. The last two months, since our last issue, have been adventurous to say the least! I’ve been based in London, falling in love and out of love with the city on a daily basis. I most definitely have a love - hate relationship with this city. It’s a city of endless possibilities, with always so much to do, and see and fascinating people to meet. I’ve had more life experiences, and done more here in two months than I would’ve in a year back home in Sydney. Every day is an adventure- my life here is fast- paced, and chaotic and a little out of control. But I love it. Most of the time anyway. On the other hand, however it’s overwhelming. Having just turned 19, with my only family 24 hours away on the plane it’s definitely dawned upon me just how alone I am in this world. In such a large city, it’s easy to become disorientated and a little lost, trying to navigate my way through situations I never thought I’d be in, and ultimately try and do what’s best- which doesn’t always end up to be the right thing. If there’s any real message behind this editors letter (which probably doesn’t seem like it at the moment!) I’d encourage you all to take a chance in a new city. Pack up your belongings and just go. For a month, for a year- whatever works best for you. You’ll lose yourself, then quickly find yourself and it will no doubt alter you as a person forever. Just do it.

9:00AM Coffee - very important! It’s a bit of an understatement when I say I’m not a morning person, I do my best to not ever have a reason to wake up before 9am (which is still too early in my opinion). I take this time to go over my social media accounts, checking notifications and responding to DM’s and comments. Once the coffee has set in my brain starts working and I’m ready to go.

9:30AM Check and respond to emails from my stockists, customers, bloggers, etc. Check and update my website if needed.

10:00AM I map out what I need to do for the day. I keep multiple to-do lists; scribbled on papers on my bench, in my day planner and on my phone. I need to be able to tick things off my list. I do a lot of running around; to the post office, casters, wholesalers, gem shops, etc. If I know I have a lot to do out of the studio, I try to start my day by getting as much of that out of the way during business hours as possible, so that I can scratch that off the list and focus entirely on production for the remainder of the day.

12:00PM By now I’ve done my running around and get to bench work for the rest of the day. I start by working on any custom orders that have deadlines. My favourite pieces to work on are the one-offs, the only problem is I never want to give them away. I don’t keep any stock, so every single piece sold is made to order. To me its so much more special to get a piece of jewellery you know has been made specifically for you, and this way of working definitely keeps me busy. I loose track of the time and normally don’t stop for any longer than the time it takes to make tea and hug my dog.

4:00PM I have a quick break and check social media again. I’ll normally post something that’s inspired me that day. I take a short break most afternoons to draw from my inspirations, do a few sketches and remotivate myself before I get back into making again.

6:30PM Dinner - it’s normally something boring but quick and easy and then I’ll take out the dog and give him another hug.

7:00PM Back on the bench for a few more hours. I love making every piece by hand; the whole process from the design, to the fabrication, filing and polishing, every step, its satisfying and rewarding at the end of the day to see what I’ve created. It’s even better to see my work being worn by people all over the world. Jewellery is such a special thing… I promise I’m only a little obsessed!

10:30PM Stop working. Go out, have a drink, read a book. Do whatever I want.

2:00AM Sleep.

001

WHO WOULD YOU LOVE TO SEE WEAR YOUR DESIGNS? It’s hard for me to think of one person. I’m completely thrilled and feel privileged every time I see someone wearing MDG. People from all different walks of life, all over the world. I love it!

002

HOW DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION FOR EACH COLLECTION? I love the medieval and renaissance eras, especially the architecture. Memento moriand and antique jewellery. Art from the same time period, and some contemporary as well. I also love furniture design. I draw inspiration from so many different forms. Both of my collections are a combination of the old and the new, harsh lines and points paired with fine chain and crystals. I love mixing styles, nothing ever too pretty or predictable.

003

HOW DID YOU GET INTO DESIGNING AND HAND-CREATING JEWELLERY? I’ve always loved jewellery, especially silver and silver rings. It was always something I wanted to do and played around with here and there. I grew up being very artistic, spending my spare time sketching, painting and drawing portraits and nudes. After a few years of travelling I took a course in jewellery design and completely fell in love. It seemed like a natural progression for me. I can’t imagine doing anything else.

GOT ANY ADVICE ON STARTING A BUSINESS? Just go for it! Don’t over think things. Work things out as you go, you don’t always have to know what you’re doing 100% of the time. Be driven and persistent and it will pay off.

ERIKA HANNA JAEST STUDIOS

JAESTSTUDIOS.COM

WHO DO YOU LOOK TO IN THE BUSINESS WORLD FOR INSPIRATION?

I love looking up to people who started with nothing and turned into something huge. It’s really inspirational how someone who doesn’t come from money can turn their lives exactly how they want it to be. I look up to Ralph Lauren, Steve Jobs, Oprah, and YesJulz just to name a few.

PICK THREE CELEBRITIES YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE WEAR YOUR DESIGNS.

1. Rihanna 2. Bella Hadid 3. Kendall Jenner.

“ I LOVE LOOK

PEOPLE WHO FROM NOTHIN INTO SOMETH

“KING UP TO

O STARTED NG & TURNED HING HUGE

WHERE DO YOU DRAW YOUR INSPIRATIONS FROM?

I love the 80s and 90s. I love comfort and adventure and being in elements where I can experience nature (to a certain degree, haha), but I do love the rain. I usually get a lot of my ideas when I’m driving or being driven at night. My mind gets lost while looking out the window and watching everything move in fast motion. I love architecture and visiting art galleries as well.

YOUR STYLE IS QUITE SIMPLISTIC, WHO DO YOU LOOK TO AS YOUR STYLE ICON?

Jane Birkin, Bianca Jagger, River Phoenix, Curt Kobain, Aaliyah.

WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WANTING KICK-START THEIR OWN LABEL?

Don’t give up! Seriously, there has been countless of times where situations arose and I felt it was the universe telling me it wasn’t meant to be, but I didn’t stop and I couldn’t stop. Don’t let those times be your breaking point; Patience is key. This was one of the biggest things I needed to work on, there’s no such thing as overnight success. Hustle hard. In the beginning stages I would sit at my desk and FIND something to do even when I had nothing to do at the time, I was always looking for something that can take me to the next step. Also, have GRATITUDE. We all want success but that doesn’t happen overnight. Remember to stay grateful for your journey and current situation, that will help speed the process.

“ THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS OVERNIGHT SUCCESS. HUSTLE HARD.

WHAT GOALS DO YOU HAVE FOR JAEST STUDIOS?

I have major goals for JAEST and myself. I want to take JAEST nationwide then worldwide, evolve our women’s basics line to activewear, swimsuits, intimates, accessories, shoes, and jewellery. Then do men’s, children and home. And a little down the line do SS, FW and Resort collections!

JAEST STUDIOS IS KNOWN FOR ‘AFFORDABLE LUXURY PROVIDING COMFORT, VERSATILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY’ WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU DO TO UNDERTAKE THESE PRINCIPLES AND WHERE DO YOU SEE SUSTAINABLE FASHION GOING?

JAEST is about bridging the gap between designer and fast fashion. Meaning our quality is high end and our prices more towards the affordable side. We skip the middle man to keep cost down. Instead of selling wholesale to retailers, we sell directly to consumers which cuts the cost of showing at tradeshows etc. and helps with keeping our costs low without sacrificing the quality.

F*CK IT, LET’S PARTY.

HOW TO THROW A KILLER PARTY WITH DJ DUO

MALI KOA & KYLIE GRIFFITHS @MALIANDKYLIE

MALI -- INSTAGRAM & TWITTER: @MALIKOA, FACEBOOK MALI KOA OFFICIAL, TUMBLR: MALIKOAH.TUMBLR.COM, WEBSITE: MALIKOA.COM KYLIE -- INSTAGRAM: @KYLIEGRIFFITS, TWITTER: @KYLIEEG, BLOG; KYLIEGRIFFITHSBLOG.WORDPRESS.COM, WEBSITE: KYLIEGRIFFITHS.COM PHOTOGRAPHER: MORGAN HILL-MURPHY

YOU BOTH HAVE INCREDIBLE TASTE IN FASHION; WHERE DO YOU DRAW YOUR INSPIRATIONS FROM AND WHAT WOULD BE YOUR GO-TO PARTY OUTFIT? M: My style has really changed over the years; I

think I’ve swapped the neon and leopard for a more relaxed sense of style. I continue to be a major fan of the little black dress and boots for a party combo.

K: Thanks! My inspirations are drawn from

all over, ranging from real people you see on the street to my general interests such as surf culture and old movies! Like Mali my style has definitely evolved recently and has got a lot more casual, so my go to party outfit would have to be a t-shirt dress, some killer boots and my leather jacket. I generally never go ANYWHERE without my leather jacket – it’s my go-to staple piece.

PICK FIVE SONGS THAT YOU WOULD HAVE ON YOUR PARTIES’ TRACK LIST. M:

Daft Punk - One More Time Justice - D.A.N.C.E The Killers - Smile Like You Mean It Skepta - Shutdown Ms.Jackson - Outkast

K:

Mark Ronson – Uptown Funk TLC – No Scrubs Destiny’s Child – Bootylicious 2Pac – California Love Biggie - Juicy

WHAT KIND OF FOOD WOULD YOU LOVE TO SEE AT THE TABLE AND MORE IMPORTANTLY WHAT DRINK NEVER FAILS YOU? M: Burritos or sushi will never fail to make me

smile, but a big ol’ plate of pasta (spaghetti carbonara or something creamy with extra cheese) would also go down well. My go-to beverage is vodka, lime and soda.

K: When it comes to food I 100% agree with

Mail but you could also throw in a cheeky pizza for good measure. Drinks – I’m a real cold beer kind of gal, nothing beats an ice cold pint or if it’s not a beer it’s a margarita, they’re my ultimate party drink.

IF YOU WERE ATTENDING A COSTUME PARTY, WHAT WOULD YOU DRESS UP AS? M: I think I’d go with anything that involves

glitter or leather. I’ve got a bit of a complex with still looking sexy whilst in a theme. Kylie is the opposite… whilst in Sweden she op-shopped the worlds most hideous red dress that she planned on transforming into a lobster for an underwater themed party. She had a walk and all kinds of outrageous ideas and a crab like walk to match, I on the other hand was going to go as a mermaid.

NOTHING MORE AWKWARD THAN A SILENT PARTY (UNLESS THAT’S THE THEME OF COURSE!); ANY TIPS ON GETTING PEOPLE TO INTERACT WITH ONE ANOTHER? M: I usually have one too many shots and end

up dancing on a table somewhere. Does that count as a tip? No but seriously, I always meet life long best friends in the bathroom or by the food.

K: Sometimes you’ve just got to be the one

that breaks the ice! I’m fairly outgoing so I’ll just approach people and join in conversations if I feel like the parties taking a silent turn. Or just whack on some TLC and start dancing, dancing always lightens the mood! Like Mali said nothing’s like dancing on a table!

A GREAT LOCATION, THEME AND ATMOSPHERE ARE ALL VITAL COMPONENTS TO A KICK-ASS PARTY, WHERE WOULD YOU LOOK FOR INSPIRATION, WHAT WOULD YOU LOOK FOR IN A VENUE AND OUT OF ALL THE EVENTS/PARTIES YOU HAVE ATTENDED, WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE THEME? M: I’m a massive fan of sit down dinners for

events. I can’t say no to good food and wine, so if they’re on the menu I’m definitely attending. Other essentials include a kick-ass (and inclusive) guest list, good music and of course it’s a bonus if Craig David makes an appearance at any point. I remember Kylie and I walking into the InStyle Christmas celebration last year and confetti falling from the ceilings as we entered the room to the sounds of Chaka Khan – MAGIC!

K: I LOVE a theme! I think it’s important to

make a party different from any others out there; one your guests won’t forget it in a hurry. At London Fashion Week there are hundreds of events taking place over those 5 days, but there are always a couple that really stick out – me and Mali went to an amazing Rick Owens event a couple of seasons ago where the carpark at Selfridges was made to be an old school rave, and another where the whole room was based on Alice and Wonderland… you had to crawl through a rabbit hole to enter and all the drinks were served in teacups. The attention to detail was amazing and I always reference that party as being one of the best I’ve ever attended.

YOU BOTH HAVE GREAT INSTAGRAM FEEDS (@MALIKOA, @KYLIEGRIFFITHS) WHAT TIPS CAN YOU GIVE FOR TAKING THE PERFECT SNAP AT A PARTY (EDITING, LIGHTING, MOOD ETC.)? M: My greatest tip is to take as many pictures as you can early on in the night, the later ones are almost never usable (woops!). Take millions because you will most likely hate all except one, take them in lots of different locations for lighting etc.

K: Lighting is key. It’s hard to get good snaps

when you’re in a venue as it’s usually so dark, so like Mali said try and get them early on so you know you’ve got something usable.

UNARGUABLY YOU BOTH HAVE GREAT TASTE IN MUSIC, WHO IS YOUR GO-TO ARTIST AND WHAT SONG WOULD YOU SAY IS GUARANTEED TO GET PEOPLE DANCING? M: We are massive fans of hip hop and grime; I’d say that Kendrick “King Kunta” or Skepta “Shutdown” are our go-to. That’s if we don’t bash out a Britney or Kelly Rowland tune.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE BIGGEST NO-NO WHEN POSTING PICTURES FROM A PARTY ONLINE? M: If someone hates the picture, don’t be that

dick that just posts it because you look good -- u suck.

K: 100% don’t post a picture if you’re mate

hates it, it’s just a bit mean.

OKAY, NOW FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION – HAVE YOU GOT ANY ADVICE FOR DEALING WITH THE MORNING AFTER? M: My mum always suggests a burger, sleep

and a Lucozade.

K: If I’m near the sea I’ll go surfing, it has never

failed to cure a hangover. However, living in London this isn’t always the most practical option so normally I opt for a pizza and a can of ice cold Coke and I’m ready to go.

BEST SONG/TRACK FOR: RAVING -M: Cassius - The Sound Of Violence (Narcotic

Thrust Edit) K: Disclosure – When A Fire Starts to Burn (or anything by Major Lazer)

FALLING IN LOVE -M: Des’ree - Kissing You K: Bon Iver – Blood Bank HOUSE PARTIES -M: Earth Wind and Fire - Groove Tonight or

September (my favourite song of all time) K: I’ve got to have some hip-hop so probably Wu Tang Clan – Gravel Pit or Snoop Dog – Gin and Juice

KARAOKE -M: Ring of Fire - Johnny Cash. My go-to

number one banger K: TLC – No Scrubs. I don’t even need the lyric screen for this one!

GIRL’S NIGHT OUT -M: Alanis Morissette - Hand in My Pocket K: Anything by Britney Spears – this is

especially fun to listen to whilst getting ready and belting along the words whilst dancing on your bed.

IF YOU COULD THROW YOUR DREAM PARTY -WHO WOULD YOU INVITE? M: I’d invite the Obama’s (+1’s optional Be-

yoncé, Jay Z and Oprah?), my brother, my parents, my friends, Denzel Washington, Ellen DeGeneres, Justin Bieber, Missy Elliot, James Corden, Hugh Jackman, Seal (Kiss from a Rose), Ricky Gervais, The Rolling Stones, The Kardashian’s/West’s/Jenner’s and the kids from Stranger Things or the cast of Law and Order SVU.

WHAT WOULD THE THEME BE? M: It would be an Italian Summer Soiree on a

long table with winery views and arms full of beautiful flowers.

K: I would have a hip-hop and grime festival

late in the summer.

WHAT WOULD THE SIGNATURE DRINK BE? M: Limoncello with bottles and bottles

of warm red

K: Frozen margaritas and ice cold beers WHERE WOULD YOUR DREAM PARTY BE HOSTED? M: It would be co-hosted by George and his

wonderful wife Amal in his house at Lake Como, obviously.

K: Co-hosted by Mali; I would have my party at

a wonderful beach in Hawaii.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE DRAWING YOU HAVE COMPLETED AND WHY?

Every time I finish a piece it becomes my favourite, I hang it on my wall and feel sick with the thought of selling it. Then when time passes and I’ve created new pieces I feel that my work has served its purpose and it’s time for me to pass it on. One particular piece I absolutely love is this one [right image]. To me it represents the feeling of daring to be different - standing alone outside the crowd. You might be lonely out there, but to me that’s better than falling into the trap of being like everyone else.

WHY DO YOU PREFER TO FOCUS UPON THE HUMAN FORM? 002

To me, the human form is the most complex thing I’ve ever come across. At the same time it is what I know the most about and also can relate to. There will always be something I do not understand which additionally makes it an interesting object to work with. I can continuously explore and learn about the human kind and I can bring myself into each piece of work; making it very personal.

DO YOU HAVE A PARTICULAR MUSE? 003

Humans in general I guess, but mostly men and women, more specifically women with forms and bald men.

004

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE LINE DRAWING AS THE BEST WAY TO EXPRESS YOURSELF?

All my life I have tried to perfect things and depict objects as close to a photograph as possible. I took drawing classes and learned to use different types of colours and techniques, but eventually I gave it all up. Drawing became a pressure of perfection. Many years passed and I didn’t draw a single line until during a family dinner in 2010 where I noticed Picasso’s one line drawings. It looked so effortless and simple, but by taking up the technique I got to learn that it wasn’t. Drawing in one line became the simplest way to express myself and I thought how could I simplify our human kind by drawing them in one line. The simplification of lines has stuck with me. I always try to simplify my use of forms and colour so that the strongest form of expression remains.

WHAT EMOTION OR FEELING DO YOU HOPE TO EVOKE FROM THOSE VIEWING YOUR WORK? 005

I rarely think of the viewer. Drawing to me is a self-centred thing, I don’t even know if I understand it myself, but I draw for me. It’s like a story you want to tell, it’s inside you and drawing is the way of expressing it. How the viewer perceives it is up to them. I hope people have feelings when viewing my work; that is enough for me. Acknowledging a feeling and maybe the feeling will arise because I work with an object which you can relate to as well?

006

HOW DOES THE SCANDINAVIAN STYLE AND AESTHETIC INFLUENCE YOUR WORK?

Growing up in Denmark, it is hard to know how much I am influenced. I simply aim to have paintings on my walls that don’t take up all attention in the room but instead creates a balance.

007

WHERE DO YOU DRAW YOUR INSPIRATIONS FROM?

I take inspiration from ancient statues, live nude drawing, but mostly from within.

AIMEE KENDALL OF AIMEE-CHERIE INTIMATES web : aimeecherieintimates.com instagram : @aimeecherie_intimates facebook : aimeecherie.intimates tumblr : appleaimeecherie.tumblr.com

Q1...First of all, can you summarise how Aimee-Cherie Intimates started?

It feels like it kind of just came from nowhere. Around 3 years ago I was making a few little bralettes for myself here and there, and then a few friends asked for some. I put them up on Facebook and started taking a handful of orders a week. Eventually I made an Instagram page for the label and it really took off. Before I knew it my day job was being a lingerie designer and small business owner - something I would have never originally aspired to be!

.. . 2 Q

What piece has been your favourite to design and have you got a particular go-to item? I loved designing the Peaches range from our Heaven Wilde collection this year. The colourful embroidered lace is something I wouldn’t usually dare play with, but it felt right and we went for it. It’s turned out to be a hit and pushed us in the right direction of what we want our lingerie to look like. The rest of the collection was designed around it. My go-to item is still the Rachel Bralette that I wear every day. It’s black, simple, soft and easy to wear but also really pretty. It was one of our first designs and has always been one of my favourites.

. Q3..Every business goes through rough

patches (whether it be lack of inspiration, lack of sales or second-guessing your ability), what advice have you got for those particular funks? Ugh they really suck and I don’t think they get any easier! What has gotten easier though is how to deal with them more efficiently and get over it quicker. I use to mope around after a bad sales week or when something goes wrong. The best thing for me is to find something totally unrelated to work in any way and enjoy the time doing it; even if I have to force myself too. I usually go do a yoga class for an hour or take Peaches (my little bully and office mate) for a long walk along the coast. It kind of recharges my batteries to deal with that work related stress much more clearly. It mostly reminds me nothing is ever that bad or can’t be fixed.

.. Q4.Name a song that motivates you to get creative.

‘Can’t Do Without You’ by Caribou.

.. . 5 Q

Any particular pinch me moments? As of now the biggest one was probably getting a message from Lorde just after New Years saying that she was all about ACI. It’s surreal when you hear that type of feedback from artists and business people you admire.

. . . 6 Q

New and emerging businesses often lose their way and create something that has already been oversaturated; what makes Aimee Cherie unique and what do you pride yourself on? AC Intimates has been strong headed in making sure that we stick to what we do despite what trends may be popular. We make lingerie that’s not overtly sexy, but instead has a sensual, cool girl undertone. Nothing is over designed and we make everything in our studio here in Perth. 100% Australian made.

.. . 7 Q

Where do you draw your inspiration from for each collection and can you tell us your top three muses? Most collections start with fabric choices and are navigated from there. I’ll usually have a sense of how our ACI girl has evolved over the year or what I want her to grow into. Our silhouettes are pretty consistent for each collection, so I like to play with different colour ways or textures that we haven’t tried before. In saying that, we are only 3 years in and every collection we seem to do break a guideline or rule that we said the season before we’d never do! Bella Hadid tops the list as ACI’s number 1 muse. She’s not only stunning and all kinds of cool, but exerts our ACI attitude to a T. We loved (and still do) baby Kate Moss in her original CK days and the images shot by Corinne Day. The third one would probably be Stevie Nicks. I grew up on Fleetwood Mac holidaying along the WA coast as a kid. I recently got to see them live for the first time ever and Stevie told a story about her first time at the Velvet Underground. It gave me goose bumps and I’ll never forget her telling the crowd that you’ll find dreams in the smallest of places.

.. Q8.Finally, have you got any words of wisdom for those wanting to start a lingerie brand but simply don’t know where to begin?

There is no right place or time to begin. There will always be challenges and without them you cannot grow a strong business. Try to ask as many people as possible for advice and most importantly make sure you listen to the answer. I’m always impressed with people who have gone out and either studied or done some work experience first; every little bit will count somewhere along the line.

You’re sadly coming to the end of your American tour, where has been your favourite place to perform and what are you going to miss the most about being on the road? KENNY -- Besides Eaux Claires, my two favourite places were

NYC and DC. We got our start in NYC and DC is where we are from so coming back to such a supportive crowd in both places was amazing. You begin to feel like a rockstar on tour, until you play a hometown show and your friends are proud of you but also don’t give a shit. They’re taking pictures and talking / yelling at you from the audience the entire performance. It keeps your ego in check.

NAOMI -- Eaux Claire’s, The Grog Shop in Cleveland and Baby’s

All Right in NYC were my favourite places to perform. There were several “stand out” shows but those two were unique, particularly because the sound and the vibes from the crowd were both on point. Travelling is probably what I miss most when were not on the road. It’s exhausting, but its addictive.

ISABELLE -- On this tour, Eaux Claires Music Festival was my

favourite! The people there were so into the music. We had an insanely large crowd for being so early in the day and we had a few days off so we got to really enjoy the festival and catch a lot of other performances which was inspiring. I’ll miss having an excuse to eat bad... just kidding (kind of) -- there are so many cool foods to try in every city! And being in a new city for the first time is definitely a valid excuse for having no filter with food (specifically cheese curds and deep dish pizza).

What is your favourite song of Prinze George to perform and if you had to pick a song to cover what would you each pick? KENNY -- I think ‘Upswing’ is still my favourite song to

perform, it’s a song we never get tired of and it always gets a strong response from the crowd. I also really enjoyed playing a cover of Prince’s ‘I would die 4 you’.

NAOMI -- It’s always shifting for me. It can be tough to sing the

same words over and over again with the same enthusiasm, but it largely depends on what I get from the crowd. If they are into it, if they are singing the words; that gives me something. At a certain point its cool, because it’s no longer about how you feel about a particular song anymore; it’s about how it makes other people feel. Lately ‘Move It’ has been my favourite, probably because we haven’t played it to death and because it’s also one of my favourite songs on the record. I’m dying to do an Edith Piaf cover.

ISABELLE -- ‘This Time’ has always been and still reigns as

my favourite, both in listening and performing. It’s got high energy and intensity in the production, which gives me more freedom on the drums and when we play it live there’s always high energy among the three of us, and within the crowd. It’s super fun. Personally, I’d love to cover ‘Move Your Body’ by Sia.

You must have seen some rather interesting stuff whilst touring around the States, can you tell us where and what has been your most memorable moment on tour? KENNY -- I think my most memorable moment on tour was

in Detroit last year when we performed ‘Upswing’. There were two different stages in the venue and the sound guy ran our backing tracks to the wrong one. We could hear it faintly in the background but ended up having to play it stripped down. It was very different but it forced us to have a fun, spontaneous moment.

NAOMI -- I really loved being in Cleveland. It’s a funky place

and I love playing at The Grog Shop. We had the whole day to explore before we played this year, which rarely happens. Most of the time you’re rushing from place to place and you only get a good look at a venue. We did a lot of walking and thrifting and it was a really good day. People were genuinely friendly and I even recruited a couple guys we had met at American Apparel to come to the show.

ISABELLE -- One of the most memorable moments for me

happened to be in the middle of nowhere, somewhere in the Midwest late at night. I had taken over the driving and Samir our tour manager was playing some music off of his playlist. When he played ‘Girl’ by The Internet we noticed this vast field of flashing red lights in the distance that all flashed at the same time, in intervals of a few seconds that happened to be on cue with the beat of ‘Girl’. As the song progressed we got closer and became suddenly immersed in this field of flashing red lights and discovered that we were in a field of windmills. It was an insane visual and auditory experience, and I relive it every time I hear that song.

Name three songs that you like to listen to before going up on stage. KENNY -- I usually don’t get to choose the music beforehand since the ladies have already put on Beyonce. So I have learned to channel my inner Queen.

NAOMI -- Yeah Isabelle and I can’t get enough of Lemonade.

‘Sorry’, ‘Don’t Hurt Yourself’ and ‘Flawless’ are usually on the menu before we go on and majority rules, so Kenny doesn’t really get to have a say.

ISABELLE -- It really depends on my mood but in general

we’ll put on a hype playlist while we’re getting ready. Beyonce is a frequent choice -- both Naomi and I are obsessed with her and she does a great job in giving us slay/female empowerment/fierce vibes. If I had to pick three I’d say ‘Formation’, ‘Flawless’, and ‘Don’t Hurt Yourself’.

We can’t even imagine how nerve-wracking it can be to perform to audience; what advice can you give to people who get butterflies in their stomach before facing a crowd (e.g. singing, theatre, presentations)? KENNY -- I think that having a pre show ritual every time really helps to get me into the performance zone. We do a group huddle and reflect on how lucky we are to be doing this. When that fails; a stiff drink.

NAOMI -- Remember to breathe. I get horrible nerves but I

think the more I do this the easier it will become. Reminding myself that I’m not alone up there is crucial; I often look at Kenny and Iz onstage because it calms me down and helps me focus on the music and not on my nervous body.

ISABELLE -- Practice performing. But most importantly -

enjoy the moment and remember why you’re doing what you do. Take a minute before you get on stage to remember how blessed you are to be doing what you love, in front of people who love what you do. These people are here for you and they will take what they can get out of your performance. That being said, don’t get caught up with mistakes. Have conviction in yourself and your abilities, it’s obviously gotten you that far.

We have no doubt that life on tour can be pretty hectic so what do you like to do on your days off? KENNY -- It definitely can be. I usually (try) to exercise on days off and explore new places.

NAOMI -- Reading in the car with a face mask on, sleeping

and resting my voice are all part of my routine when we have a day off. I keep quiet in the car and talk when we stop to eat or explore.

ISABELLE -- First off, I make sure to fully sleep in to make up

for days where I have little sleep. Then, if we’re not en route to somewhere else, I love to explore the city as much as I can. We love shopping. I especially enjoy finding thrift/exchange stores and quirky shops that really capture the vibe of the place (I’m thinking of you, Cleveland <3).

For those who are yet to discover your music, can you give us one word that describes your sound? KENNY -- Nostalgic NAOMI -- Raw (for pop music anyway!) ISABELLE -- Cinematic

BEFORE WE SAY GOODBYE

what we’re loving

We’ve had fashion week, we’ve watched new fashion films and documentaries and I have gone forth into my final year as a fashion student; all making this months favourites focusing on the industry we love so dearly. On the runway we’ve been loving Jonathan Simkhai, Versus Versace and of course the new works of Anthony Vaccarello at Saint Laurent. And as always we’ve been taking inspiration from the streets; we like to look at the daring fashion folk of Shoreditch, those visiting Dover Street Market and our favourite street style stars including Hailey Baldwin, Danielle Bernstein and Patricia Manfield. Aside from fashion we’ve been reliving our best Reading festival moments through Biffy Clyro, RHCP and Jack Garratt.
