EFFIE BURGER
Maxx Johnson, 4th grade Orchards TribuneHave you ever wanted to have one meal fit for a dozen people? If so, you need to go to EFFIE BURGER. This place is awesome and I like to go because I really like supporting a locally owned business. The food there is amazing, the environment is family friendly, and the service is awesome.
The Food
When I went to EFFIE BURGER, my dad and I were able to split a cheeseburger. We couldn't even finish it because it was so big. The burgers there are eight inches wide. My dad and I split a double cheeseburger. The burger was delicious because it was tender and juicy. At EFFIE’s (as they call it) there are three kinds of fries you can choose from: steak fries, curly fries and normal fries. All of this food was amazing.
The Environment
EFFIE BURGER is super family friendly. Everyone of all ages feels welcome there. They also play great music. Another great thing about the environment is that they also have a claw machine. The machine is super easy to navigate and makes it almost too easy to get stuffed animals. When I played, I captured a stuffed husky on my first try. The employee said it had just been put in yesterday. This is awesome because it is actually possible to get some stuffed animals. The Service EFFIES has awesome service. When we ordered, we got our burger within ten minutes. The waitress was very nice too. The restaurant was just great.
I give EFFIE BURGER a Five out of five stars because of the conquerable claw machine, the giant burgers and how fast they are. Make sure you stop by EFFIE’S if you get the chance!

Old vs. New
TopGun
Lyla Thompson & Averie Hendren, 5th Grade Orchards TribuneAs everybody knows, the newTopGuncame out a couple of months ago. The original is awesome, everybody has to agree, but the new one is out of this world!
In my opinion, people that have seen both movies might have some trouble making up their mind as to which one is better. If you have that problem, you should definitely read further.
TopGunMaverick( the new one ) has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The oldTopGunhas a 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s amazing how many miracles and cliffhangers happen inTopGunMaverick. There is way more than you could imagine.
TopGunMaverickearned $716.3 million dollars for its release in 2022. The old TopGunearned $357 million dollars for its release in 1986. Wow, that's a lot of money earned for both of those awesome movies. I know why they both earned so much money, it's because of how flawless they both are.
In my opinionTopGunMaverickis better thanTopGun. Mostly because of all the amazing unplanned miracles that happen. Also all of those awesome cliffhangers. That’s why I thinkTopGunMaverickis better thanTopGun. TopGun Maverickis definitely my new favorite movie.
By my evidence, what movie do you think would be better? Of course you have to watch both before you can choose which one is your favorite. Even though my opinion is pretty strong you don’t have to agree. I’m definitely encouraging you to watch both, and I’m wondering which one is your favorite?
HowtheGrinch StoleChristmas
Max Hight, 1st Grade Orchards TribuneIt's that time of year again to watch TheGrinch. It's my favorite Christmas movie. I like the old Grinch because it looks so real. I don't really like the new Grinchbecause it doesn't have that much action. In the old Grinch, it has more flavor. That means it has more action and excitement.
My favorite character is the mayor's sidekick because he is funny. He's funny because when the mayor told him to do something, he shaved his head. In the old Grinchmovie, the Grinch looks so mad at first, and then he changes and becomes happy at the end of the movie.
Of course, I also like Grinch's dog named Max. One of my favorite parts in the movie is when the Grinch came back from the festival and the dog Max had Christmas music on. He was dancing and the Grinch threw him and his doghouse out the door. That was so funny!
Do you like old Grinchor new Grinchor do you have a different favorite Christmas movie?

Which Zone Are You In?
Raegan Kirkpatrick, 3rd Grade Orchards TribuneHave you ever wondered what those colorful cards on all of the teachers’ name tags are? I interviewed Mrs. Gomez to learn more.Today I’m going to be teaching you about the zones cards. These are the zone card colors: red, yellow, green and blue. Let’s all learn about the zones and the feelings that you might be feeling in that zone.
Let’s start with blue. When you're in the blue zone you might be feeling: sad, tired, bored, moving slowly, laying on the ground or your desk and you may feel sick. Here are a few tips to hopefully get you out of the blue zone: get a drink of water, do a fun activity, or even get some exercise. That's what I’ve got for you in the blue zone.
credit: Raegan KirkpatrickNow let’s learn about the yellow zone. Here are some feelings that you might feel in the yellow zone: excited, frustrated, worried, silly, not working/not on task and saying no. Those are all ways to tell you are in the yellow zone. Here are some tips on how to get to the green zone: take 3 deep breaths, get a drink, or even moving around. Those are some good ways to get to the green zone.

Which Zone Are You In?
Raegan Kirkpatrick, 3rd Grade Orchards TribuneNow let’s learn about the green zone. This is how you feel most of the time. You might: smile, practice mindfulness, focus on your work, take deep breaths, be a friend, and think happy thoughts. That’s what you might feel in the green zone. These are some great ways to stay in the green zone: calm down, don’t go crazy, and have fun.
Now let’s learn about the last zone. The red zone. In the red zone you may feel mad, angry, afraid, yell, hurtful or even out of control. Here are some ways to get back to the green zone: get a drink, take a few deep breaths, and count to 10. Those are great ways to get back to the green zone.
It is ok to feel all of these things because no zone is a bad zone, all zones are good. You should always know that if you feel in the red or yellow zone you are still not in a bad zone. I hope you liked all of this great zones information from Mrs. Gomez. Our feelings are important!

LHS Girls Basketball Head Coach
Wyatt Thomas, 4th grade Orchards TribuneThis newspaper article is about Mrs. Stefanchik and her basketball career. Mrs. Stefanchik is a third grade academic teacher, she is also the head coach of the Lewiston High School (LHS) Varsity basketball team. Mrs. Stefanchik says she practices 5 days a week and every Saturday morning and has eleven players this year. Mrs. Stefanchik started as a coach in 2017, and before that she played college basketball which really helped her with coaching. During the year 2017, she became the head coach in Moscow for two years. She then went to the LHS Varsity team in 2019, and has been coaching LHS for three years now. She says that her first season was very basic, but that next year, her winning percentage was 3-17. The next year she had her best season yet, which was 8-12. I asked Mrs. Stefanchik about the things she likes about basketball. Her favorite WNBA player is Sue Bird, her favorite WNBA team is the Seattle Storm. I also personally asked her if basketball was her favorite lifetime sport and she said “obviously.”
Wow! Mrs. Stefanchik is an amazing coach and an amazing academic third grade teacher. We all appreciate your hard work Mrs. Stefanchik! We hope you rock this year!
LHS WRESTLING TRIP
Clara Green, 4th Grade Orchards TribuneToday I will be teaching you all about the wrestling trip the Lewiston high school wrestling team took last year, what they wear, and some of the many moves in wrestling. You can join the fun as well if you have an older sibling show this to them. Go to team USA website to sign up and get the chance to be picked for a trip to an awesome place for wrestling.
Only two LHS wrestlers went to Tallinn, Estonia, one including my brother King David Rhodes the other being Hoyt Hvass. They went to Tallinn,Estonia in Europe .The reason they went up there was because they were doing USA wrestling. People trade singlets as a sign of respect for the other wrestler. The weather was extremely cold most of the time it snowed. The stadium had many rows of seats, in the middle there were huge pads for the wrestlers, and it also had a huge score board meant for showing what wrestlers were wrestling next. There were wrestlers from germany, spain, south africa, and even two kids from ukraine, etc.
Singlets were made to protect them when wrestling and added mobility. Each wrestler was given two singlets, one red and one blue, with the name USA on the front and back. The wrestlers were given two singlets in order to keep track of which team a wrestler is on and what points were added and subtracted from doing moves. Singlets are normally made from spandex or nylon.
One move you can do in wrestling is called the shot. How to perform the shot is changing your level and going for the legs and picking them up and driving them to the ground. Another move and how to perform it is a Half Nelson where you wrap your arm under another’s arm and gripping above their head/neck, usually to roll
Much like a full-nelson with two arms, but with one arm, and full-nelsons are illegal.
In conclusion, I hope you are satisfied with the information you just got about LHS wrestling. This is an exciting wrestling opportunity to learn about other people’s culture and personality. You just learned about the trip they took last year, what they wear, and some of the many moves in wrestling. In the valley you can sign up for wrestling now at the Hells Canyon Wrestling Club or Lewiston Wrestling club. Hope you sign up.

Top 3 Snowy Day Activities
Azzlyn McComas, 5th Grade Orchards TribuneWhat’s your favorite activity to do when it’s a snowy day? There are many fun things to do and You probably have many great ideas for making the most of a snowy day. However, these are the top 3 most popular things that I observe on the playground and that I also enjoy doing.
This is the 3rd most popular thing to do when it's a snowy day. People around the world make snow angels. If you don't know what snow angels are, they are basically when you lay in the snow and stretch your arms and legs up and down, so when you get up it looks like an angel! Just make sure you bundle up so you don't get snow in your shoes, or you might get your clothes wet and that wouldn’t be fun. But other than that snow angels are really fun and would highly recommend it!
The second most popular thing to do is catch snowflakes on your tongue! This activity can only be done when it's snowing so do it when you can! This is so much fun when you don't enjoy the snow that much, like me! It's also exciting when you catch the snowflake on your tongue, I see kids all the time celebrate when they catch a snowflake on their tongue and for some reason makes me want to do it even more, You should really try this if you haven’t already! A really fun thing to do is to make snow angels and catch snowflakes on your tongue at the same time!
Finally, the most amazing thing to do when it's snowing is…BUILD A SNOWMAN! I’m pretty sure almost everyone has built a snowman, but if you haven’t you make three big snowballs and each time you make one they get a little smaller but you only need three! The smallest will be the head, the medium will be the body and the biggest will be the bottom of your snowman! To decorate your snowman you need a carrot, 3 rocks, and 2 sticks! This isn't how everyone does it but this is the traditional way: you put the carrot for the nose, 3 rocks for buttons, and the 2 sticks for the arms. And for the eyes…you can choose.

Things to do Before Christmas
Fisher Weatherly, 3rd Grade Orchards TribuneWhat are some of the things you like to do before Christmas day?I usually make a gingerbread house. Making a gingerbread house is so fun. A gingerbread house is made out of gingerbread, frosting, and sometimes sprinkles. You and your family can make gingerbread houses any time of the year if it is in the stores. We all do it because wikipedia.org says that in the 17th century, decorated gingerbread was sold at seasonal markets and given as gifts. Today, we decorate gingerbread houses to spend time with our loved ones.
Christmas trees are so fun to decorate. A Christmas tree is a tree that you can put decorations on. People use all types of decorations from plastic balls and lights, to fruit and popcorn. Anyone can decorate a Christmas tree, but be careful putting a star on it, some trees are pretty tall!. There are many reasons why we decorate trees for Christmas. My family likes to do it to bring joy to the season and enjoy the glow of the lights. I love to watch Christmas movies, do you? A Christmas Story is a fun story that you can watch about Christmas. There are all types of Christmas movies, most of them make you feel good. We watch Christmas movies to get in the mood for Christmas, it helps us feel good about the season. If you have an older sister who is around the age of 6-9, you could get her pop-its, a bike, and also hair accessories. Squishmellows/stuffed animals are also always good gifts. If your sister is a teenager from the ages of 10-15 you could get her slime, some lip gloss, or even jewelry.
If you have a little brother who is between ages 1-4, you could get him a Paw Patrol toy set, or Hot Wheels! If you have a brother ages 5-11, get them a skateboard or funny stickers, but if you have an older brother between the ages of 12-15, you can get them a new gun to hunt for big game or if they like football, you could get them some football gear! They love that kind of stuff!
Now we’re moving on to what to give your mom! You can get her comfortable and soft slippers, or a lotion, a new mug, jewelry, a book, or a purse. Also a good store to buy stuff for mom is Bath and body works. If you don’t know what to get your dad for Christmas you could get him some new golf clubs, you could get a hat or a team jersey, dads love watches, you could also get cologne or hair gel but I think the best gift for a dad is……… you should get a gift card to their favorite store! That’s all for dads! For a dad and you gift, you could get a manicure or massage gift card! Now lastly, one of the BEST gifts in our opinion is lavender anything: like a lavender bath bomb, or lavender sleep spray. Good gifts to give your grandma are candles, a blanket, knitting kit, And lastly the best gifts are….. cooking supplies, and aprons! And lastly good gifts to give your grandpa/papa you could get a picture of you and your siblings or you could get them some new tools or you could get their favorite football or baseball or even basketball or just their favorite team get a hat for them!
Now if you were stuck on gifts we gave you some new ideas! We might not have put what you had in mind but we think these are good gifts, and our opinions! We think you could get these gifts for your family because they are kind of common! Happy shopping , and Merry Christmas!

No Shave November
Ethan Pederson, 4th Grade Orchards TribuneDo you know what no shave November is? I’m going to teach you about no shave November. This is important information because the old men participate in our school. Today I’m going to teach you what no shave November is and how you can join.
No shave November is a month where you go a whole month without shaving. We let our beards and mustaches go a little crazy. As you know the main rule to no shave November is you can’t shave for 30 days. We do this because we want to help people with cancer. The money we normally spend on grooming can be spent on donating to cancer research or prevention. If you want to participate you can grow a mustache or beard or not shave for the month. You could also donate the money towards a cure and help save lives. We can all help find a cure, team work makes the dream work!
In this article I wrote about No Shave November. I taught you what it is and how you can join. Remember, do not shave until the month of December.
Gingerbread Houses
Paetyn Rowell Orchards TribuneI think that gingerbread houses are one of little kids' top favorite things to do during the holiday season. Do you like to make gingerbread houses? Do you know anybody that likes making gingerbread houses? Well I do… ”ME”! I know lots of people that make Gingerbread houses. Do you know when Gingerbread Houses became a tradition? It has been known that the Germans were the people who invented gingerbread houses in the 16th century. What are Gingerbread houses made out of you ask. Cookie dough! It’s cut and baked into different shapes like: walls, roofing, doors and windows. Icing is used to make sure that everything stays together and then is decorated with CANDY! Which makes this a treat afterwards.
The first gingerbread house was the result of a childhood story called Hansel and Gretel, in which two young kids abandoned in the forest found an edible house made of bread with sugary decorations.
The making of a gingerbread house can be a family tradition. It can also be used as decoration during the holidays. Last year my family and I made Gingerbread houses with LOTS of candy. Some of the candy we used were: gummy bears, candy canes, gum drops, pretzels, peppermints and lots of other candy. You can make your gingerbread house look any way you like. If you want to build a gingerbread house, there are kits you can buy at the store or you and your family can bake and build your own. If you haven't built a Gingerbread house, I suggest you do. It’s lots of FUN! You definitely NEED to!
Seasonal History of Santa Claus
Orchards Tribune
Kinsley Schell, 4th Grade Orchards TribuneHow much do we really know about Santa Claus’s history? Well, in this article I will teach you about Santa Claus's history. We mostly know him as plain old Santa. But you might’ve also heard of him as Father Christmas or St. Nicholas.
Santa is mostly known as Santa Claus or Father Christmas and you might not know that the’re are also other names for him. The name Santa Claus came from the legendary monk named St. Nicholas’s, also known as SinterKlaas. Now he’s known as: Saint Nick, or Father Christmas, and the original Santa Claus, and all other nicknames except for SinterKlaas.
No one could ever get a real picture of Santa. They were just dressed up. You might be wondering, “How long has Santa been around for?” He’s been around for 1,750 years, and elves have worked for Santa for 1,823 years! Well you might be thinking why, “have the elves been around longer than Santa?” Good question. Every Christmas Eve night Santa gives presents to you, and fills your stockings with candy and toys.
In this article you have learned how long Santa and his elves have been around for, and all the other nicknames for Santa. Santa is very important because he goes around the world and gives special gifts to everyone if they’re nice, but if your naughty you might get coal.
“Journey to the North

A fun fact is there are 1.5 million holiday lights on the holiday cruise. You can visit Santa Claus and his elves at the North Pole. In your hotel you can also get elves to bring you cookies and read your children a story.
When I was on the cruise it was so much fun. The elves were everywhere on the ship and they had delicious hot chocolate with tiny bits of cookies. They also had many other options of cookies to eat.
If you want to go now you have some information to know what to expect. This is Emma signing off! Merry Christmas!

Cold Prevention
Isabelle Feucht, 4th Grade Orchards TribunePicture

Are you feeling sick? In this article you will learn about some ways to prevent getting sick. Did you know that about 1 billion people get the flu each year according to the CDC. gov? In my article I will teach you: how to prevent getting the flu, what to do when you have the flu, and what food and drinks to consume during a flu. Some ways on how to prevent getting the flu include drinking lots of water, and you can have warm water with salt. Also, exercising helps boost your immune system. Since so many people get the flu, make sure to wash your hands before and after eating and going to the restroom. take your yearly flu shot. You might be wondering “why do so many people get the flu?” A lot of people get the flu because they breathe in tiny airborne droplets from coughs and sneezes from someone with the flu. Some symptoms you get when you are sick are: a sore throat, a cough, a headache, a stuffy nose, and sometimes a stomachache.
When you are sick, stay home on the school days to rest. When you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your arm, but don’t use your hand, because your germs get on your hands and then if you hold hands with a friend you get your germs on them. When you stay home because you have a flu, I bet you don’t want to just lay around, so some ways to entertain yourself are an iPad or tv to play a video game or watch a tv show, you can also read a book, Also you can play with a rubik’s Cube, a rubik’s Cube will keep you mind occupied and going. A flu or a cold can also be caused by allergies from weather changing, it is common to have a stuffy nose, and sometimes even a little rash. What stuff can make you have allergies? The colder air can irritate your body, and cause rashes and a stuffy nose. When you are sick, get a good night's rest, so then you can go to school the next day. Now you might be thinking “ how does sleeping help?” Well your immune system is stronger when you're sleeping, so it’s easier for your body to fight off a cold.
There are some good foods to eat when you have a cold. Soup can help with a sore throat, warm decaf tea with honey can soothe and coat your throat, and warm drinks are better than cold drinks. Other good foods that are good for a cold include toast, rice, bananas, and applesauce. You might also be thinking, “what drinks are good for the flu?” Some drinks that are good for the flu include orange juice, honey and lemon tea, water, and ginger ale. When you have a cold do not eat greasy foods, and sugary foods or drinks. You might be thinking “how do these foods help you?” They are easy to digest, and eating these foods will help hold your food down. You might be thinking “what medicine do you take during a flu?” These medicines include Tamiflu and Marboxil. I recommend taking Ibuprofen for a headache or any sort of pain. Make sure to eat healthy food. These foods include: salad, fruit, eggs, meat, grains, nuts and seeds.
In my article you learned: how to prevent getting the flu, what to do when you have the flu, and what to eat and drink during the flu. During winter a lot of people get the flu. Remember this important advice during flu season, and remember to stay safe and healthy.
LHS Construction
By Maxx Johnson, 4th Grade Orchards tribuneHave you ever heard of LHS? LHS stands for Lewiston high school. Today I will be teaching you about LHS construction and interviewing a construction student and Mr. Johnson, the LHS construction teacher. This year in construction the construction students will be starting a unit and they will be building a tiny house and then selling it for profit so they can do it again next year, and for more years to come. Let’s dive right into it.
Okay let’s get into our first interview. For my first interview I interviewed Kale DuPont. He started out enjoying building Lego sets. He hopes to have construction in his future and he wants to get an engineering degree. Construction has taught him some important life skills that he even uses outside of school activities. His favorite part of construction is the building part. Right now they are building a Quonset hut. Lastly, DuPont says that his construction teacher, Mr. Johnson can be mean sometimes, but he’s fun.
Now for the one, the only…Mr. Johnson! Mr Johnson has been teaching construction for 13 years. He started teaching construction when his coaching buddy informed him of the job and he taught a lot of math concepts using construction as an example. His favorite tool to use is the wood lathe. His favorite thing to teach in construction is how to operate the tools.
Mr. Johnson has really enjoyed the tiny house building unit and can’t wait to continue this unit for years to come. If you are interested in seeing some of his work, you can see the pictures below.

Space!
Afton Stadtmiller, 4th Grade Orchards TribuneDid you know that after the universe there's either everything or nothing? Today I'm going to talk about space and the universe. The universe is very important because we’re only one planet in the entire solar system, which is only one solar system in our galaxy. The Milky Way! Which is only one galaxy in the entire universe! I'm going to teach you about the sun, stars, and the first person to step foot on the moon.
Did you know you can fit 1.3 million earths in the sun? Well it's time to talk about the sun. I'm talking about the sun because it's in space. The sun is very important because we need it to live. For example it makes plants grow, gives us day time, and electricity.
Did you know the sun is just one big star? Stars are everywhere in the universe. You know how I said the sun is just a big star, well if we didn't have stars we wouldn’t have the sun. Also don't you want stars to look at when camping? Have you seen a picture of an exploded star? Did you know that normal stars you see everyday are actually bigger than the sun? They are just farther away.
Did you know Neil Armstrong was the first person to step foot on the moon, also he put a flag and a plaque on the moon. This is related to my topic because what do you see every night that's in the sky? The moon! Which is actually in space. Did you know the moon is 238,900 miles away from earth?
So today I taught you about space and, the amazing universe! My subtopics were about the sun, stars and, the first man to step foot on the moon. I wrote about space because its interesting, and there's still so much space to explore. If you like this article, and space then maybe visit NASA.
Conserving Energy During The Winter
Michelle
Parris, 4th Grade Orchards TribuneHave you ever wanted to be warm or see during the winter without using your energy? Well here are some tips to help you. I will give you tips about fires outside/inside fires, energy saving tips, and staying warm tips.
Have you ever wanted to know how to keep warm during the winter? The first thing you are probably going to say is fire pit but most fire pits cost money. So you could go outside and grab sticks and leaves any type of brush, BUT DON'T DO IT WITHOUT PARENT HELP. Now if you want a fire inside you would have to have a wood fire. Which is expensive so I would recommend going to Walmart for one and you could find sticks and throw them in.
Have you wondered how to see without using energy? Well I might have a solution. You could: turn of all of your lights and go to a store and buy a five pack of flashlights/candle, heat your food over a fireplace so it would cook, wear a sweater and coat. School Newspaper Update
Unfortunately the school newspaper, the Orchards Tribune, will only be printed 5 of the school year months. We are coming to the end of our grant money, but have no fear! We will apply again to help us fund for next year.
The newspapers that will be printed this school year are: November, December, February, March and April. The newspaper months that aren’t printed will be sent out digitally on Classdojo and Seesaw for all to access.
