Maxx Johnson, 4th Grade Orchards TribuneSeasonsHave you ever wanted mouth watering steak? Well I sure have. This month, I had the pleasure of going to the restaurant Seasons and eat some bite size steak. The best things about Seasons are the types of steak, the hospitality and all of the different types of food.
There are a few different kinds of bite size steak at Seasons; for example- valley bites, which are just your average bite size steak. Next there are blackened bites. The blackened bites are spicy. I personally don’t like the spicy essence of it, but my dad said it was good. My mom’s favorite is the blue cheese bites. The hospitality at Seasons is amazing! They were super short staffed and the building was packed and we got our food within 30 minutes…and they only had one cook. The waiter was also really nice and the spot we got was amazing. You could even see beautiful downtown historic Lewiston.
For people who don’t like steak, there is chicken and there is also salad. The steak is great because when you order medium rare it comes out medium rare. Other restaurants I’ve been to it comes out rare. It is cooked to perfection. In conclusion, Seasons is an amazing restaurant to go with family and friends. Please consider going to the restaurant seasons. I highly recommend it. Five out of five star rating.

Zip’s Food Review
Brynnlee Blegen and Jarrett Rowden, 3rd grade Orchards TribuneDid you know that Zips opened in 1953? Also, did you know that the inventor of Zips is Robert “Zips” Zubber?Have you ever had Zips? Well in this article we are going to try some of their food items. Brynnlee will be trying the double cheeseburger that comes with a drink and fries, and their ice cream. Jarrett will get their double bacon burger that also comes with a drink and fries…with ice cream of course!
According to Jarrett, the bacon double cheeseburger is a 9.9/10. It was very good, I would recommend it because it has a great amount of bacon. For example, a lot of food places only have two strips of bacon but Zips has 4 pieces of bacon. It was definitely worth the 3 minute wait. It was not a perfect 10 though because it was a little messy and it didn’t have enough ketchup, but other than that it was delicious!
According to Brynnlee, the double cheeseburger was soooo good! The patty was not over cooked, and it was so juicy and the best cheeseburger I’ve ever had. I definitely recommend it. It also had a good flavor. Sometimes it gets a little messy if you put a lot of fry sauce on it like I did. I had to get like 1,000 napkins, but it was very good! I rate it a 9.7/10. The only reason it’s not a ten is because it was a little messy. The soft serve ice cream was a 1,000,000,000,000,000/10, it was sooo good. We got a chocolate and vanilla swirl and it was heaven! It took a while to eat it all but it was so good and had us dreaming to buy more ice cream. It was great!!!
We think their service was an amazing 10/10 service because our food only took 3 minutes to get our food to us. That is not too long of a wait. They got all of our orders right. Also they were so nice. When we got our order they said “enjoy your meal!”
We hope we get to go here again! We would recommend it, if you like burgers and fries! The workers were very nice and they had great service and the food is to die for! We had our mouths watering when we walked in.
Zip’s is located at 804 16th ave. They just built a new Zips and it is located on Thain road by Preston Ave., Lewiston Idaho!!!!

Would you like to make a fun and colorful homemade chip dip recipe?
I love it because it is easy to make and it's so delicious!
Here is the recipe:
1 can black eyed beans.
1 can corn.
1 can black beans. All cans drained and rinsed.
1 green pepper chopped. (You can use red, orange or yellow instead).
½ red onion chopped. ⅓ cup sugar. ⅓ cup apple cider vinegar. ⅓ cup oil.
¼ cup Tiger sauce. (Can be found at Winco)
In this recipe make sure to mix all the ingredients in a large bowl and let it sit for a few hours before eating. Also make sure to enjoy it with your favorite corn or tortilla chips!
You should definitely try this recipe. I think it's 5 stars!

The Best Cartoons According to Mr. Shriver
Michelle Parri, 4th grade Orchards TribuneHave you seen any old cartoons like Tom and Jerry? Well, today I will share some cartoons with you that you might enjoy. Who knows you might enjoy them as much as Mr. Shriver does.
Rugrats This is one of Mr. Shriver's favorites because it is one of the shows he watched a lot as a child, and he thinks it is funny, and he always looked forward to watching it when he was a kid. He says it brings back good memories and it is a family friendly show.
Hey Arnold Mr. Shriver loves this one because Hey Arnold is similar to Rugrats. It is another show he used to watch all the time. This one has older kids in the show instead of babies though and it was funny. He enjoyed the characters, and it was just fun to watch.
Dr. Seuss Mr. Shriver enjoys Dr. Seuss because it is the ultimate classic. There are lots of Dr. Seuss classics like: The Grinch or The Cat in the Hat and you can watch Dr. Seuss shows any time of the year.
Bluey This is one of Mr.Shriver’s favorites as well. Bluey is just a fantastic new show. Bluey has awesome characters, it has great messages in each episode, and the parents are funny. It is fun for kids to watch and it is always fun for adults to watch as well. Another reason why it is the best is because it is overall a great show, and it is entertaining.

Student Council
Raegan Kirkpatrick, 3rd Grade Orchards TribuneDo you know what student council is?
Student council is actually called the student leadership group (SLG). This group is made up of 4th and 5th graders and the SLG helps with and makes activities for our school. These students are selected each year by submitting an application in September. Next, both the classroom teacher and the gt facilitator, Mrs. Duchemin, review the characteristics of a leader list to determine which students are the most qualified for the position.
This group is usually made up of 2 students from each 4th and 5th grade class. Some activities that the Orchards student council hosts are: Fill the Bus, connect four, Fill the Bus, and they donate food to the Salvation Army in Lewiston. Here is some information about these activities-
Fill the Bus
Fill the Bus starts on November 28th and it ends on December 14th. Once a year the school collects nonperishable food and fills an entire bus up with the food. The bus is for people who might not be able to afford enough food. At our school we do competitions between the 3rd-5th graders and the kindergartners-2nd grades to win a class party for whoever donates the most food.
Connect four:
In connect four, the students from SLG will host a connect four tournament for k/1, ⅔ and ⅘
During the competitions SLG will be monitoring for fair play and of course, good sportsmanship. The winning team usually wins a prize. I hope you learned a lot about student council/SLG and I encourage you to apply when you are in 4th and 5th grade. This group does amazing things for our school and community.
We Lead
Wyatt Thomas, 4th grade Orchards Tribune
At Orchards, we are leaders. One of the ways we lead at our school is we follow the leadership expectations. Today I am going to teach you about the expectations in two of the places at our school: the cafeteria and outside.
Cafeteria Expectations
In the cafeteria it is important to have 25% of the sound you would have outside because the cafeteria can get LOUD. The next expectation is stacking trays; they should be inside each other pushed forward to make the lunch helpers job way easier for them. Also, if you have seconds, eat it all because it's a waste of food that the cooks made for you. The next thing for everybody to do is to pick up your trash. Mr. Scott has a hard time picking up every single piece of trash that you leave behind and it makes it so much easier if everyone does their part.
Outside Expectations
Student council filling the bus Photo courtesy of Mrs. D.
Next I am going to share some of the outside expectations. if someone is just not being fair, tell them to make the game fair and/or leave. Always accept the people that want to play, just let them play. Don’t leave anyone out. Let everyone have a shot at something new and let everyone take a turn. If someone is new, ask them their name and invite them to play or teach them how to play a game.
I told you about orchards expectations: cafeteria expectations, and outside expectations. Let’s all do our part to continue making Orchards a great place.

New Years Party Planning
Isabelle Feucht & Kinsley Schell, 4th grade Orchards TribuneAre you ready to plan the best party of your life? New Year's is coming quickly, and people need to plan a party. In this article we will tell you how to plan the best party ever! In our article you will learn about: invitations, themes, and food & drinks. We all know we need invitations for a great party! There are many ways to send these. You can mail them or send them online. Some apps you can use include in your invitations are: Emails, Facebook, and Instagram. To mail, you can just easily put the invitation into your mailbox, or go to your local post office and they can deliver it to the person. Now I bet you are thinking “what do we put in the card and on the front?” If you mail your invitation make sure to put the card in an envelope. Make sure to put the date of the party for example: the time of the party, the day, and your phone number so they can let you know they are going to the party. Just make sure all words are spelled correctly and make sense.
Are you trying to figure out what theme to do for the party? Here are some ideas. You can do a Winter theme, an ice cream party, or a pizza party. We all know New Year’s Day is in the winter time, so I think it would be fun to make it be more like Christmas, and if you don’t want to make it like Christmas, you can put gold and silver balloons, and you can put out a huge balloon that says 2023. If you have room, you can put a dance floor and play music at your party. You can also pick one or two colors and decorate in those two colors, some good colors include: gold and silver, red and green, pink and green, and white and black.
At your party you need food & drinks. Some good foods to have include: shrimp, mashed potatoes, pizza, chips & dip, and a veggie tray. Some drinks include: sparkling water, fruit punch, soda, and water. For the kids you can have juice boxes, or some juice. Make sure whoever you invited is not allergic to anything you have to eat or drink. You can also put out a bowl of candy but if someone is allergic to peanuts don’t put out snickers, or any other candy with peanuts. At your table you can put out a bunch of trays or plates of food and people can come and get whatever they want. If you have fruit punch you can put a huge bowl and a big spoon and cups on the side so people can scoop up the fruit punch. If you have chips & dip you can grab a plate and a small bowl and put the bowl in the middle and put sauce in the bowl and put chips around the bowl.
In my article I taught you about: invitations, themes, foods, and drinks.I hope this helped you start planning your New Years party. 10,9,8, don’t be late, 7,6,5, its almost time4,3,2,1, Happy New Years!

The New Winter Trend
Averie Hendren & Lyla Thompson, 5th Grade Orchards TribuneNow that it's winter you might be wondering what’s the new winter trend. Well if you are wondering, you’re in luck! The new winter trend is HAIR BEARDS! You might be questioning, what is a hair beard? Just wait you about to find out in the next few paragraphs, in those paragraphs you will find out about how the trend started, how to make one, and the fashion/benefits. Enjoy!
One day, a fifth grader named Lainey Grow created a fashion. Little did she know that the small act of funniness would become SO MUCH MORE! Other girls noticed the new fashion. HAIR BEARDS! Then pretty soon almost all of the girls in the room were rocking the new winter trend.
I bet you’re wondering how you make a hair beard. If you are, let's start on the road to making a hair beard.
1. Get a hair tie
2. Collect your hair from both sides of your face
3. Then bring to the front of your face onto your chin
4. Secure the hair with the hair tie onto your chin
5. Whala! You got yourself a HAIR BEARD!
People might think ewwww you're not a man, (because of the beard), but the hair beard has plenty of benefits to change their minds.
● When outside in the cold the hair beard keeps cheeks and ears warm
● The hair beard is easy to assemble
● To make the hair beard it only takes one hair tie
● The hair beard also keeps hair out of your face Don't forget when you walk past other people, their jaws drop.
Now you know all of the things you need to know about the hair beard including how the trend started, how to make it, and the fashion/benefits. Thank you Lainey for starting the amazing new trend of the winter! You put creativity into all of our minds. And I’m wondering will you put the new winter fashion into use?

How to Build the Perfect
Snowman
Fisher Weatherly, 3rd grade Orchards TribuneDo you want to build the perfect snowman? Here’s how!
First, you will need to make sure that it has snowed enough outside for you to roll big enough balls of snow. I would say a few inches of snow can help you get the job done. You will also want to gather all of your supplies to decorate the snowman. He will need: eyes, nose, mouth, buttons, arms, scarf, and don’t forget a hat!
Now it is time to make the body. Make a snowball and roll it around until it is HUGE to make the bottom of the snowman. Make another half the size, for the middle. Then make another half that size for the top. Shave the balls until smooth and round. Then stack them with the huge one on the bottom, medium one in the middle, and the small one on the top.
Next, it is time to decorate the snowman and bring it to life! You can really use your imagination with this step. Sticks can be used for arms, coal can be used for buttons, mouth, and eyes. If you don’t have coal, you can use rocks, oreos, or anything that is dark enough and has a round like shape can work. Carrots are usually used for the nose and a scarf or a piece of material can be used to wrap around its neck. Top hats are usually used, but if you don’t have one, you can either make one, or use a different type of hat. Be creative, add as much or as little as you want.
Once you have it decorated, you can name it! Take photos of it and with it. Usually when you make big snow balls like this, it will last a while and melts slower than snow.
I hope that you get a snow day soon so that you can build the perfect snowman!
Things to Do
Over
Christmas Break
What do you do over your Christmas break? You can go to the locomotive park downtown. There is also a train that you can ride on at the Christmas trees that have lights on them. You can also go sledding when there is SNOW! You can’t get a Christmas tree at Spring Valley Tree Farm. They have lots of trees there! There are a lot of different kinds of trees everywhere in lots of places! If you go to a place that has trees I bet you will see lots of trees.
Also, you could make Christmas goodies like cookies, gingerbread houses, Christmas brownies and/or Christmas cookies.
You can stay home and get together with your friends and/or family and drink hot chocolate. You could play games inside with your friends and/or your family. You could have a party or celebration with your family and/or friends. You also can go skiing, snowboarding, sledding, snowshoeing, hiking, build snowmen, and play games with your friends and/or family. You could go hang out with your friends and/or family outside. You could just eat snow. Just don't eat the yellow or brown snow. It's gross. You could go eat and have drinks around a campfire including hot chocolate, juice, or milk of different kinds.
You could go camping too, I like camping where you get to hang out and do lots of fun stuff like climbing and snowboarding and other things you have to put on your feet to do. Foods you might need for a celebration are candy canes, peppermint, ham, salmon, prime rib, mashed potatoes and gravy, steak, beef, chicken, salad, roasted veggies and other things families eat on Christmas.

Year in Review of 2022
Azzlyn McComas, 5th grade Orchards TribuneThere are so many things that happened in the year 2022. Today I am going to tell you about only a few. Let’s recap this year!
Do you know who the 3 most popular actors of 2022 are? If you dont you are in luck because I do! Jackie Chan, he is the most popular actor this year, and did you know he is in many martial arts movies and is also from China. Next up this year is Will Smith, an American actor that shoots all the way up to the 2nd most popular actor in 2022! Some people might know him as being a rapper, and others as the “Fresh Prince,” but this year Will’s calling was acting. This brings us to the last person that comes up-the top 3rd most popular actor of 2022 is none other than Chris Hemsworth, he is an Australian actor and very popular, your jaw will drop to the floor when you see him in action.
Did you know that some actors took a break from acting in 2022? Here are some of them. Sandra Bullock, an American actress who was actually the most paid actress in the year 2010-2014. She was also a producer, and made it to the top 100 most influential people in the world! Next, is Jim Carrey, he is a comedian and an artist. If you wonder what happened to him, he is fine, as well as very healthy. Benedict Cumberbatch, the actor ofDoctorStrange, is now taking a break after non stop acting for 24 years! Ryan Reynolds, a Canadian actor, is best known from theDeadpool franchise and his comedic performances. Tom Holland is the actor for the marvels Spider-man. He started his career as a dancer and eventually landed in acting… and a lot more! Do you think any of them will come back to acting? I hope they do because they are all amazing actors.
I think this is one of the most upsetting things of 2022, Queen Elizabeth the 2nd died! Queen Elizabeth the 2nd died of old age on September 8, 2022. She has lived a long life of 96 years and was queen for 70 of those years, making her the longest-reigning monarch in British history. Now her eldest son, Charles the 3rd, is now rightfully king! He was officially proclaimed king 2 days after Queen Elizabeth's death.
Have you heard about the Russian and Ukraine war? It is happening right now. Many countries have put sanctions on Russia already, sanctions are a punishment. You might be wondering why the war started? In 1991, Ukraine declared its independence from Russia. But on February 24, 2014, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine because Russia wanted to take over Ukraine. Ukraine wanted peace, but Russia was not ok with this so they decided to fight for their land back.
With so many things happening in the year 2022, I only had time to share a few with you. Feel free to research to learn more about all of the things that happened last year.

Calendar History
Max Hight, 1st grade Orchards TribuneDid you know that the original calendar of the world was based on the cycles of the moon? This was called the Lunar Calendar. It was used for thousands and thousands of years. We now use the Gregorian Calendar. The Gregorian Calendar has been around since 1582, made by Pope Gregory XIII. People have looked up to the sky for thousands of years. They started noticing that the moon disappears during the day and that its shape changes over time. Over time they started counting the days between the changes, which is how they came up with the moon cycles. The total days between the full moon and no moon equals 28 days. The moon has 4 phases. There are 12 cycles. The ancient cultures believed that the number 13 was unlucky, so they avoided it. They also had a system for how long the days were. That is how they decided on seasons during the year. How is the moon related to our current calendar? Thousands of years ago, people used the moon cycles as a way to structure and plan their activities and jobs. When the moon is full, the sky is brighter.
