Alliance of American Football By Kyler
Alliance of American Football league is a new football league, there are 8 teams. The league has different rules than the NFL and the CFL, (the Canadian Football League). We are in the week three, the rules are sort of simple. After a touchdown they have to score again to get the extra point, but if they didn’t score they go for two https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2820376-a points. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/28203 76-alliance-of-american-football-2019-rule lliance-of-american-football-2019-rules-and-f s-and-format-how-they-differ-from-nfl

diesel technology Diesel technology is a job that includes great service. They serve powerful trucks and engines and have good programming in diesel technology. Diesel technology is what makes your truck move up and down the road. For example, a chip in the truck can keep your diesel truck on track and if you pull it out it will give you more power to drive. It can also blow up your transmission.

Story of the Month. The sixth graders were asked to make a fiction story in the computer lab. Here are parts of the kids’ stories By Jase Hendren
Beware of Zombies By Laren Piquet As my mom tucks me in, she whispers ”sweet dreams.” I zone off and fall asleep, I suddenly started thinking about zombies but I didn’t realize it. Suddenly I pop into this weird world where everything is gray, gloomy, and cloudy. It’s depressing. I get out of bed and walk into the living room to see mom laying on the couch (like always). But there was something different about her. I couldn’t see her face, chills ran down my spine.“Wake up, wake up” I hear something say in a thin, heavy, manly whisper voice.
KLEW news reporter, Rasheeda Kabba, came into Ms. Bozzuto's room and interviewed Ms. Bozzuto and a few sixth-grade students for our newspaper. Here are some pictures of the excitement! By: Tessa, Jaycee, and Aryanna

Why is Fortnite so Addicting? By:Kaeden Tinney
Fortnite is a free Battle Royale shooter game. Since Fortnite is free people are more willing to buy cosmetic items such as skins, pickaxes, and gliders. Fortnite has brought in 3 billion dollars. That was just a little bit of background knowledge so you know just how popular Fortnite really is, but this is where the real fun begins. What keeps Fortnite alive is its constant updates. Every season the Fortnite map changes. The meta or strategy is also always changing. Fortnite also has a playful style. The style of Fortnite is cartoony which brings kids into the game. The in-game purchases allow you to change the way you look. They are always adding new skins which makes players want to buy more Items. When people play one game they're hooked and they can't stop playing.

Sadie Purington, Orchards Spelling Bee Champion! By:Derica Porter and Brynn Ghormley
On February 22nd, sixth grader Sadie Purington won the Orchards Elementary School Spelling Bee. The word was despair, and the room was heavy. She was only seconds away from being the champion of our school. “D-e-s-p-a-i-r!” She did it! Her classmates cheering for Sadie as she was being handed a medal for her great spelling ability. Sadie’s classmates ran up hugging her and high fiving her while she was trying to make her way to her best friend Kaylee Russell, who was in tears in happiness for her best friend. Then we asked Sadie how she felt winning, “I was like, surprised and it all happened so fast. I had no idea that I would be entering the spelling bee doubting I was going to win and leaving as a champion.” I asked 5th grader Dovian Schmidt how it felt coming in 2nd. “It was kind of stressful, not knowing whether the judges would put a green or red card. But coming 2nd to a 6th grader, I was proud of myself.”
Good Job to all those great spellers who participated in this year's spelling bee!
Why do we see colors?
By: Destiny Hobbs
1.
The small circle in the center of our eye is called the pupil or apple. The surface of the apple is reflecting the waves we see as red and absorbing all the rest. An object appears white when it reflects all waves, and black when it absorbs them all. Red, green, and blue are the original colors. 2. When you look at a banana, the wavelengths of reflected light determine what color you see. The light waves reflect off the banana peel and hit the light-sensitive retina at the back of your eye. That's where cones come in. Cones are one type of photoreceptor, the tiny cells in the retina that respond to light.

Shamrock Pretzels
12 ounces green chocolate melts 90 mini pretzels (3 to 4 cups)
By: Ryan Larkin
Gather the ingredients. Place the green candy coating in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring well after every 30 seconds, until the coating is melted and smooth. Cover several baking sheets with waxed paper or parchment paper. Dunk a pretzel in the melted coating until it's completely covered. Take it out of the coating using a fork or dipping tools, and let the excess drip back into the bowl for a few minutes. Place the pretzel on the baking sheet. Repeat with a second pretzel, and when you place it on the baking sheet, position it so that the bottom of the second pretzel is touching the bottom of the first. Repeat a third time, and this time, place the pretzel at the top of the other two so that they form a shamrock shape. Break a pretzel twist in pieces, so that you have a few short segments that can be the stems. Dip one stem piece in the coating, then position it at the bottom of the shamrock. Dip a small spoon in the coating, and use it to add a dollop of coating in the center of the shamrock, just so that it has a smooth, even surface. Repeat with the remaining pretzels and coating, until you've made 24 shamrock shapes. Refrigerate the trays to set the shamrocks, for about 15 minutes. When set, use a paring knife to trim away any stray coating from the edges of the shamrocks. Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Meals on Wheels By: Lauren Gibbs We interviewed Margaret Duncan from Meals on Wheels. We asked what the purpose of Meals on Wheels is. She said, “It’s to deliver meals to those who are shut in.” They get the meals in hospital and there they are cooked. Then they’re taken to people. People decorate sack lunches to cheer them up and make them feel good. They deliver meals 365 days a year. There’s seven different meals a day. So, it takes at least seven different volunteers. If your class would like to decorate bags for Easter please contact Mrs. D!

The Hawksbill Turtle is one of the smallest species of turtle. It inhabits the warm, tropical coastline waters of the world’s oceans, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific and Indian Ocean as well. Scientists do not know how many of these pacific turtle there still is, but they assume there is a population of 5 world wide. Endangered animals: Sumatran Elephant By: Sara Combs The Sumatran elephant is the largest animal on the island of Sumatra, and one of the largest mammals. They can way 5 tonnes or more and be at least 9 feet tall. They have small rounded ears and are almost completely bald. The females rarely have tusks but the ones who do, you can’t see the tusks until they open their mouth. These elephant usually like to be in the lowland forests of Sumatra. Currently there is only about 2400-2800 elephants. They are herbivores and spend most of these days munching on leafy greens. Sense the elephants are so large they have very few predators. Once in a while a brave tiger will try to feed on one of the baby elephants. Habitat loss is one of the main reason of the population going down. Since the human is increasing humans need more land to live off of so they use the tropical forest were the elephants live and it’s causing extinction.Poaching is also a problem with the extinction even though its illegal. These poor creatures were put on the critically endangered list in 2012. “In 1986 Indonesia began establishing.
Elephant Training Centers designed to capture and train elephants for logging and tourism purposes, which now hold approximately 400 elephants. But their safest haven is Riau’s Tesso Nilo National Park, which contains one of the last vestiges of Sumatran forest large enough to support a viable population of elephants. But the forest is under extreme pressure, as Sumatra has one of the world’s highest rates of deforestation, losing around 30 million acres of forests since the mid-80s. It will take unprecedented cooperation between the Indonesian government and environmental organizations such as World Wildlife Fund to bring the Sumatran Elephant back from the brink of extinction.” –Bret Love Reacorses: https://onekindplanet.org/top-10/top-10-worldsmost-endangered-animals/ https://greenglobaltravel.com/endangered-speci es-spotlight-sumatran-elephant/

Dove
By: Maddi Pearson
A flamingo is a bird that is native to most parts of Africa. Their pink color comes from the pink pigment in the food they eat, such as shrimp. The flamingo babies are born gray or white, it takes them up to three years to reach their adult pink, red, or orange color. When flying in flocks, flamingos can fly up to 35 miles per hour! They can seem clumsy in flight, because of their long necks that stretch out in front of their bodies and their long legs that dangle past their short tails.
Two doves that appear to be the mates for life, image from,
By: Kaylee Russell
Doves are still being hunted it lots of places but we see no population decline. When doves sleep they rest their heads between their shoulders to keep warm. Doves are part of the Pigeon family. Doves live a short lifespan, they can live up to 1.9 years as an adult. They are one of the only birds that can sip water. They can weigh up to six ounces but fly 55 mph. The cooing sound they make is usually done by the males. Doves are in the top strongest fliers. Male doves usually have one mate for life. Females only lay 2 eggs at a time. Doves have been used for thousands of years during wars for messages.
Pigeon By: Sadie Purington
A pigeon is a bird that can live in many different areas. With there being over 300 species of pigeon, they can be found almost anywhere in the world (except in the Sahara desert, Antarctica, and in the Arctic). Pigeons have a most variety of species in India, Malaysia, Asia and Australia. Pigeons navigate by sensing the earth's magnetic field and using the sun for direction. Isn’t that cool? Pigeons are often kept as pets because of their beauty and intelligence, but a very large number of pigeons are kept in captivity. Some species of pigeons are endangered due to habitat loss from people bringing them into captivity.

St. Patrick’s day By:Jaycee Keeney
St. Patrick’s day is a day to celebrate luck and joy. It is said if you find a four leaf clover you will have luck in your life, but if you squeeze it you won’t have luck anymore. St. Patrick banished all of the snakes from Ireland into the sea because the snakes attacked him on the 40th day of undertaking. Undertaking means: a task that is taken on or promise to do something.
