Introduction
In this article we will teach you about the kickball game that happens once a year. Did you know that at the end of the year there is an intense kickball game?
5TH GRADE VS. TEACHERS? Kickball is a really fun game for our teachers and for the 5th grade students to play.
Why Only 5th Grade Plays
If you’re wondering why you don’t get to play in the kickball game it’s because 5th grade is going to middle school and the teachers want to make the 5th graders feel special. Since it is the 5th graders last year in elementary school and our Orchards family will miss them. That is why only 5th graders play, don’t worry you’ll get to play someday soon!
How To Play
If you don’t know how to play kickball, we will teach you! If the teachers are outfield first, they will roll the ball to you and you will kick it as hard as you can. The teachers will then try to get the ball and throw it at you to get you out! If you touch all 3 bases then touch the base you kicked from, you get home and that’s a run! Or you might be outfield. If you’re outfield, try to catch the ball, or if you’re a pitcher, you need to roll the ball to the teacher who is kicking. Make sure you don’t throw bad, they might call it a ball!
Tips For Kickball
To 5th grade (or anyone who is interested in kickball): here are some tips to win! Tip one: Mr. Armitage and Mr. Shriver can catch the ball really well, so I recommend kicking the ball on the ground so they can’t catch it. Tip two: you may think they aren’t that fast so they can’t get you out. Well some of the teachers are as fast as a cheetah so run quickly to your next base so they can’t get you out!
Where You Sit
In this paragraph we’ll teach you about what you do. If you’re not in 5th grade, you will get to sit on the grass and eat ice cream (Mrs. Knudsen usually serves ice cream). When you are sitting you are allowed to cheer/chant for 5th grade or the teachers. You can whisper but not scream to your friends. You won’t be allowed to get up and move around (unless you ask to go to the bathroom, then you could go to the bathroom).
Conclusion
In summary, we taught you about why you don’t get to play kickball (if you’re not 5th grade). I also hope you know how to play kickball now! We taught you about tips for kickball and how to win, as well what you do if you’re not in 5th grade. All of the 5th graders are encouraged to play as one of their last times interacting with the teachers.
The Spectacular Fourth Grade Powwow Trip
Ashira Mast & Ayla Aaseby, 4th grade Orchards Tribune
Last month, fourth graders in the district took a trip to Lewis-Clark State College to see a real powwow. In fourth grade you get to learn about Idaho History and the powwow is a Native American tradition. At a powwow you learn about Native Americans dances, music differences, and culture. This powwow trip was our first field trip on our Idaho history learning journey.
Before the students got into the gym to see the powwow, they let all of the students go into teepees! There were many amazing things we saw. There were even Native American drums.
At the powwow we got to see the children, men, and women of the Nez Perce tribe dance together. They dressed in Native clothing. During the powwow they used their vocal cords a lot, it was intense and had shared a really strong message. The music and dancing was very creative and amusing. The men would wear feathers. They picked people from the crowd to dance with. At the end, they told the crowd that everyone could come up and dance in a circle who wanted to. Do you know why they call it the powwow? Well, it is because of an opportunity to strengthen community bonds and to catch up with those who had become part of another tribe. So this was our Spectacular Fourth Grade Field trip.
