Did you know that in different cultures they celebrate Mother’s Day differently than we do here? Well, if you didn’t know that already then you will enjoy this article. I chose 5 different cultures to teach you about. The cultures I chose are Mexico, Egypt, France, India, Russia. Now, let’s hear about some of those Mother’s Day celebrations.

Mexico

Did you know that people in Mexico celebrate similarly to how Americans do. They buy their moms flowers and other cool gifts, but they also have a great celebration they do at school, and they always perform, and they even include something called Mariachi Serenades.

Egypt

Egypt certainly has one of the craziest celebrations I ever heard of. They treat all the mothers like queens and they grant their mothers a special day full of relaxation while other members of the household take over their routine full of chores. In Egypt they even celebrate on a different day than we do here. They celebrate on March 21st.

France

In France, Mother’s Day involves food and flowers and a fun day out and about. They have picnics in the park and go all the way up to a river cruise. That’s so crazy right? With all that it is known to be said, in France Mother’s Day is generally celebrated as a treasured family holiday.

India

India is one of the best countries I’ve heard of because it is very practical and it’s exactly like what we do but, a little bit more exciting. They do breakfast in bed, make cute cards and flowers, along with traditional gifts. Along with all that information, discounts are offered and there are special tv segments dedicated to all the mothers. Some schools are also known for putting on plays for their mothers.

Russia

In Russia, they actually celebrate on a different day. They actually celebrate on the 26th of November. They get flowers and gifts like how we do here. But in Russia they have a traditional dance that they end up doing every time they do an emotional message showcase. They also like to go out for dinner with family and friends.

I hope you enjoyed my article about how other cultures celebrate Mother’s Day. What was your favorite tradition? Mine was definitely France. Would you ever try to celebrate like this?

The Banana Trout of Mann’s Lake

Max Hight, 1st Grade Orchards Tribune

My family and I recently went to Mann’s Lake to catch a banana trout. A banana trout is a type of albino rainbow trout. It gets it’s name because the scales are yellow, but they don’t taste like bananas!

First, we had to dig up worms to use as bait. We bottom fished, which means fishing on the bottom of the lake. We used ½ oz weights and size 6 snell hooks. We put the worms on the hooks. It took about 30 minutes to catch a banana trout, it was hard! It took me a lot of attempts before hooking one. To land a fish, you have to set the hook by whipping the line and rod. Then you step back and reel. After you land a fish, you can set it free or
