Holiday

Traditions with your family By: Hydee Long, Jazmine Baker and Destiny Hobbs There are only 7 countries that celebrate thanksgiving which is: Canada, China, Germany, Grenada, Japan, Norfolk Island, European, and America. Canada celebrates Thanksgiving with a European traditional harvest festivals; China celebrates Thanksgiving by thinking of indians and pilgrims, while eating turkey and pumpkin pie; Grenada celebrates Thanksgiving by remembering the anniversary of the 1983 Caribbean and American Military Intervention in Grenada.

French people are different from Americans and Canadians because they do not celebrate Thanksgiving at all. Although they are aware of the traditions in America, they do not celebrate these traditions.

In the German-speaking countries, Thanksgiving is an autumn harvest celebration called Erntedank or Erntedankfest (“harvest thanksgiving festival). The observance usually takes place in September or October, depending on the region. Similar harvest festivals are common in many countries and regions around the globe. As you can tell from the above, the European Thanksgiving observance (ob-ser-van-ce.) is not anything like the more secular traditional family holiday and feast in Canada and the United States. Unless they live in a rural area or are church-goers, most Germans have only experienced Erntedankfest means (harvest festival) by seeing it on television.

This month’s endangered animal is the pangolin! You have probably never heard of the pangolin (most people haven’t). So, What Are Pangolins? Also known as scaly anteaters because of their appearance, long tongues and their favorite snacks. Pangolins are mammals that inhabit tropical forests, dry woodlands, and the savannah. There are eight species still in existence found in India, China, south-east Asia, and parts of Africa.

Endangered animals: By: Sara Combs

Want to do your part to save pangolins? Don’t eat pangolins. Don’t buy pangolin products: no pangolin medicine, no pangolin wine, no pangolin jewelry, no pangolin scales or leather. Spread the word. Tell your friends and family about pangolins. In recent years, more people around the world have learned about pangolins and the threats to them. This has directly led to more support for policy reform, scientific research, and more conservation efforts. You can help by spreading the word about pangolins and how they’re in trouble. The Inchworm By Destiny Hobbs

The first thing that you should know is that Inchworms are not caterpillars. They are the larvae of many different geometer moths. Inch worms do not have legs on their stomachs like caterpillars; They only have legs on their upper body and their lower bodies. The inchworm shifts it’s lower body then it’s upper body, that is called inching. That is what gave it the name inchworm. Another name for the inchworm is measuring worm.

Sea turtles, often called marine turtles, are reptiles. The seven existing species of sea turtles are, the green, loggerhead, Kemp's ridley, olive ridley, hawksbill, flatback, and leatherback. Sea turtles are one of the Earth's most ancient creatures. The seven species that can be found now have been around for 110 million years, since the dinosaurs. The sea turtle's shell, or "carapace" is mainly for swimming through the water. Unlike other turtles, sea turtles cannot bring their legs and head into their shells. Dolphins are very intelligent, and beautiful animals. they have hair when they are first born, They have 2 stomachs, one for digestion, one for storage. Unlike sharks dolphins have a bad sense of smell but all of their other good senses make up for it. They also use echolocation, so they know where everything is because it bounces off of things In the sea. They are carnivores, and they don’t chew their food. Nearly 40 dolphins swim in the waters of the world, most live in shallow areas of the tropical, temperate oceans, five species live in rivers. Dolphins would never hurt a human unless it felt like they were in a dangerous place.
