

CONCLUSION!

MEDIA re-present images and things according to the demands of our world. It gives us representations of our world.

Representations - Physics and Media

WATER REFRACTION in PHYSICS  

 

Water refraction is a phenomenon experienced by us in real life. For instance, a spoon placed in a glass of water looks bent at the surface of water when viewed obliquely. The real image is transformed. We see a misleading image or a refracted one (refraction). We can notice that light changes its path as it passes from one medium to another (air to water). This change is due to the fact that the velocity of light varies as it travels from one medium to another

REFRACTION and MEDIA  Media reflects reality, but this reality is bent or refracted according to the demands of our world. It does not only present reality, but represent some images, people or situations.  We call these refracted images in media REPRESENTATIONS.

REPRESENTATION AND STEREOTYPING  Media give us ways of perceiving things. We call them stereotypes 

Stereotyping is process of categorizing and evaluating (sometimes) situations or people.

Read the following joke. Try to guess the answer. Say what stereotype they refer to. Q: What did the blonde do when she missed the 66 Bus? A: ……………………….. (Maxim magazine, on-line) http://www.maxim.com/funny/jokes?page=3

Groups of people are represented by stereotype characteristics!!!!!!!!!!

A: She took the 33 bus twice instead.
