Retail spaces and e-commerce are ever changing. Having successful e-commerce means keeping up with consumer demands and trends while staying ahead of traditional retail environments. If you are able to merge both spaces, it can set you apart from competitors. Bulletin is a brick and mortar location dedicated to offering woman-owned businesses an in-person selling space. These companies pay a monthly subscription fee to have their merchandise placed inside the location. With three brick and mortar New York locations, it’s a safe haven for feminists who wants to navigate the masochistic world with flare. These curated locations have movable selling spaces because as the merchandise changes, the store layout does as well. Even simple things such as a bench can be turned into a display stand or a coffee table. An added benefit to securing a spot within Bulletin is the staffing capabilities. Often times when doing a pop up within a location, the business not only supplies the product but also a staff to sell said products. Bulletin takes that challenge away. Their trained staff is dedicated to each location and learns about products that are placed in store, so their customer service and product knowledge supports each brand. Bulletin is able to successfully translate the traditional retail environment with bright hues, limitless fixtures, and the customer’s attention. Images from Bulletin.com

KITH, which has built itself on the store inside a store model, has opened its seventh location in London. They are able to carry their modern take on urban streetwear to Selfridge’s Designer Street Room. This location is built on marble herringbone flooring, and has glass fixtures paired with eyecatching clothing. It is very clean and inviting while being able to very minimalistic.. The added bonus of the KITH stores lies in the KITH Treats. This selection stems from the owner’s love for breakfast cereal and dessert. So as the customer shops and visits in the brick and mortar location, they are able to be immersed in an exclusive experience. Retail space is all about what you can do to drive customers to your location and for them to be able to have a memorable moment they can share with others. KITH definitely knows their clients and what motivates them.

The Wing is the brand normalizing workspaces exclusive to women. “The Wing has based their concept on the women’s clubs that began cropping up in the 1920’s’ places for women to communicate and network and support each other in beautiful spaces.” They are taking their unique look and creating spaces dedicated to working mothers. These spaces are called Mother’s Room, they are nursing rooms “created in office buildings to give working moms the freedom and comfort they so richly deserve to take care of their babies”. These private rooms will offer a warm space for mothers to pump breast milk, feed their little ones, change diapers, and wash both bottles and nursing equipment. As of 2010, employers are required to give working mothers a break time so they can “pump breast milk in a private space for employers of 50 people or more.” The unfortunate issue at hand lays within the insufficient options for these mothers. The Wing has taken that and created this beautiful multi functionally space any working mother can confidently enjoy. The signature 1920 aesthetic is brought into the space in a minimalistic style, that is accented in light hues of baby pink and muted green. It is a far cry from what is typically thought of as a nursing room and The Wing will be the center of the change.

Designed by Norwegian architecture studio Snøhetta and located in Lindesnes, Norway, Under is a visual masterpiece that captures nature in its rarest form. It boasts the title of being Europe’s first underwater restaurant. The restaurant is half-sunken and looks as though it washed up and became apart of the seascape.”A bold architectural gesture that not only redefines the concept of the underwater restaurant and creates a new landmark in southern Norway, but also functions as an ecological paradigm, designed as it is to fully integrate into its marine environment over time.” The half-sunken disposition creates a moment for new perspectives to be made based on your location in the restaurant. Under has paved the way for underwater restaurants and has made them not only sophisticated and moody but also intriguing modern. “Conceived as a sunken periscope, the restaurant takes the form of the 34-meter long, concrete monolith at the end of which looms a massive window offering a mesmerizing view of the seabed as it changes throughout the seasons.” The overall location lends itself to create a unique mood and presence for the restaurant. “Turning darker and more intense the deeper one goes below water, the bespoke textiles, stretched over acoustic panels, go from neutral hues to sunset pink, intense coral, sea green, and finally midnight blue in the dining room.” The inspiring design brings together two worlds as one.

Iranian architect and designer Sina Momtaz, has transformed an industrial space located in north Tehran, Iran into a versatile showroom named the Comode. It is 2100 plus-square feet of “movable display stands and a system of curtains that can effortlessly “carve out smaller spaces. Built around a tight budget the functionality of the space takes center stage. This space is minimalistic yet bold enough to effortlessly host exhibits, event launches, host showroom style retail space and other special events. Momtaz rid the space of color by whitewashing all the exposed brickwork, paint all beams white, added a transparent layer of resin on the floor and painted the ceiling black. The display units are quite unique, they are wardrobe modules and cruciform shelving units that are made out of the metallic framework. These display units can be placed anywhere in the space and fitted with flexible cables that power the integral light source. The Comode is a fantastic space that takes advantage of the flexibility of retail spaces and turning it into something that is truly versatile and limitless.
