POLAR BEARS INFORMATION • The polar bear is a carnivorous bear whose native range lies largely

within the Arctic Circle. • It is a large bear and its weight is around 350-700kg. • These bears are adapted to the climate. • Their scientific name is Ursus Maritumus which means "maritime

bear". • They can swim for 150 kilometers.


HABITAT • Polar bears live in the most cold parts of the Earth. • They live in the Arctic. • They live in Denmark, Norway, Russia, Alaska (USA) and

Canada.


POPULATION

• There are about 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears

worldwide. • There are 19 recognize subpopulations: • Eight are declining. • Three are stable. • One is increasing.


HUNTING • Indigenous people hunt them in all the regions. • Almost all the indigenous use all parts of the bear. • Only in Canada, 400 to 518 were hunted in 2005. • Nowadays there is less hunting. In 2013 it was reduce from 105 to
