Spring Cleaning Guide. Growing up, Spring was always a time for gardening and cleaning – no exceptions. As the sun rose for longer hours and we could finally crack the window open to let in some fresh air. The next step was always to pull out a broom and a mop to clean that grime that had been hiding in the winter dusk. I had always hated it – never a domestic goddess, or ‘molly the maid’ type, cleaning was always a chore that was never for me. If I didn’t have to, I would definitely opt out every time! As I got older, there were little to no opt options – so I put on some jams and got down to it. The worst part of cleaning – besides touching gross things, is the overwhelming chemical smell that some cleaning products release into the air. Especially in an enclosed space, I found myself feeling light headed – not to mention the beating that my nails and skin took (YIKES!!). Those chemicals are terrible for your health as well as the heath of your pets. Since I’m all about the DIY all natural alternatives, let’s dive right into getting your clean on, for this year’s Spring Cleaning session!

Page 15

The DIY Guide To First things first, these are the essentials: vinegar (you can also use apple cider vinegar interchangeably), baking soda, lemon juice, and your fave essential oils (lavenders and peppermint are especially great for cleaning).

Page 16

o Spring Cleaning The absolute worst part of cleaning is the bathroom, especially when you have roommates. There were countless horror stories in university involving bathroom cleanliness! But at least with these remedies you’ll get the reassurance that your cleaning supplies are all natural and won’t be as toxic as bleach (but it gets the job done just as well).

Page 17

By far, doing laundry is the most hands off process of cleaning: hence, it’s a personal favorite. All you have to do is throw a load in with a little soap and bam, in an hour clean clothes. If you’re feeling a bit fancy, try these DIY laundry hacks. Not only will your clothes smell phenomenal at the end of your load, but you’ll have the satisfaction of having an all-natural squeaky clean load of clothing.

Page 18

You can even make your own cleaners for your dishes and kitchen appliances. Add some vinegar to these DIY recipes for extra disinfecting. It works just as well as any bleach based product – giving any surface a sufficient clean and stains a run for their Money. Make sure you dilute it with a sufficient amount of water, since it can be quite harsh by itself.

Did you know that Vinegar kills %99.9 Bactria that cause foodborne illness

Cleaning may be a bit of a hassle, but of course it is necessary. If you turn it into a fun little project with these DIY cleaning alternatives, it can be way more entertaining. Plus it would smell a whole lot better than the chemically enriched store bought cleaning supplies you would find on a shelf. So give it a try! Make your Spring Cleaning this year, that much more special. Page 21
