Bristol Recreation Department Our Mission

The Bristol Recreation Department is committed to offering life long learning opportunities through a wide range of quality recreational and performing arts activities to people of all ages.

The Recreation Department is located upstairs in Holley Hall P.O. REFUND POLICY If you are dissatisfied with a program after the first session (class), you must submit a written explanation to Bristol Recreation Department prior to the second session (class) to be eligible to receive a refund. In the event of an extended illness or injury, we must be notified immediately and we will issue a prorated refund. A medical and/or doctor’s explanation will be required. We cannot issue refunds for trips, special events, ticketed events, and no refunds are given for a single session. Refunds will be issued for programs canceled by the Bristol Recreation Department. An administration fee of $5.00 will be charged for all processed refunds. BACKGROUND CHECKS In order to protect the citizens of Bristol, it is the policy of the Town of Bristol to conduct criminal background checks of all volunteers and subcontractors providing unsupervised care or services for vulnerable populations (youths ages 18 and under, adults with disabilities and elderly). The Bristol Recreation Department will only select persons who are of good character and who have the skills and other qualifications necessary to fulfill their role.

Parent/Guardian signature required for youths 17 and under. B. REGISTER EARLY! C. Registration enrollment is limited for some classes. D. REGISTRATION DEADLINE … we must meet our minimum enrollment number, one week prior to the start date of programs. E. Mail-in registration forms must be received four days prior to programs’ starting dates. F. Fees payable at time of registration (CASH or CHECK). G. Registration fee arrangements can be made, contact the Recreation Director. H. Non-residents accepted if space is available, with the additional out of town fee applied. I. Waitsfield Champlain Valley Telecom together with the Bristol Recreation Department will be hosting a Children's Halloween Party on:

Friday, October 28th from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at Holley Hall. There will be music, activities & refreshments including pizza and healthy snacks. The event is

Bristol Clay Studio The Bristol Clay Studio is located in Artist’s Alley next to Art on Main. All clay classes are held at the Bristol Clay Studio. We are delighted to have Matlak Mayforth, our Potter in Residence now for over 16 years, teach our classes. The clay studio is a place where skills are learned, fun happens and connections are made. *Class fees include: First 12.5lbs of clay, glazing and firing costs.

After School Pottery

Explore the excitement and wonder of making objects in clay! Students may choose between hand building and working on the potter's wheel. All work will be glazed and fired to take home. This class meets once a week for 6 weeks.

No experience necessary! Learn techniques in hand building or throwing on the potter's wheel to create functional or nonfunctional pottery in a relaxed supportive class. This class meets once a week for 6 weeks and includes open studio time on Saturday mornings 9:00 - 11:00 AM.

Ho Ho Ho This is Santa calling... Bristol Recreation Dept. has reached an agreement with Santa Claus’ North Pole Headquarters to arrange a phone call from Santa Claus for local children. A special North Pole registration form will be available on the Bristol Rec. Dept. website. bristolrec.org Please register by Dec.10th. Fee: $5 per family. Santa makes his calls on Wednesday Dec. 14 and Thursday Dec. 15 in the evening between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Every effort is made to call younger children first.

Wellness Classes and Workshops Tai Chi for Health and Balance

Safe Sitters

This class is a beginner Tai Chi class that will teach all the fundamentals of Tai Chi for Fall Prevention. This class meets twice a week for 8 weeks. No class will be held on Oct. 11 or Nov. 23.

The Safe Sitter program includes instruction in babysitting skills and techniques that include: care of choking infant/ child, infant and child CPR, injury prevention and management, safety for the sitter, child care essentials, behavior management and babysitting as a business. Each participant must pass a written and practical exam.

Tai Chi Sun-Style 73 Forms

CVAA's Tai Chi program: Sun-style 73 forms will be offered at Holley Hall beginning Sept.6th. The Sun 73 program is an advanced form of Tai Chi but still copies the more upright Sun Style observed in the Tai Chi for Fall Prevention Program. Experience the meditative gentle, continuous flow of Tai Chi using a beautiful sequence of forms in the age old practice. Benefits are numerous, including balance, strength, agility gains; reduced blood pressure/improved cardio health & diabetes scores; and improved sense of wellbeing, mental health and reduced depression. Some Tai Chi experience is helpful. Must be able to stand unaided. Class is offered free of charge but donations to CVAA are welcomed. Instructor Susan Wallis is a certified instructor. No class on November 8th.

This program is one of Dr. Lam's Tai Chi for Health Institute's health sets. An excellent introduction to Tai Chi for Beginners. This program is designed for adults in most physical conditions and can be done seated. Tai Chi for Rehabilitation will gently stretch joints, improve circulation and calm the mind. If you answered yes or even maybe then this is the workshop for you. We will introduce you to baking gluten free goodies that taste just how you remember them. You know how important Strength and Flexibility are to your overall Wellness and Quality of Life...How does one get started? Try this 30 minute Introductory class filled with personal instruction on exercise form and modification. We will meet upstairs at Bristol Fitness in the Group Fitness Studio and use chairs, balls, bands, ankle and hand weights to strengthen our entire body. Every class ends with a relaxing stretch.

Gentle Aerobics

Join the journey on Monday and Wednesday evenings in our Spinning Studio at Bristol Fitness. Instructors will lead you through a ride to motivating music. This class is sure to improve your cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance. Challenge by choice! Meaning you change your level at your pace. We encourage beginners to start with less than an hour on the bike and finish with stretching and core work.

Low Impact movements to gently increase your heart rate, move your body in a full range of motion and a relaxing stretch at the ballet bar to finish class.

Monday Night Basketball

This is an intermediate level program. Experience in Recreational Volleyball is required. Classic threetouch volleyball team play creates a fun, fast paced game with receiving, passing, setting and smashing. This level is not suggested for beginners or league players.

This is an Adults Only class. You may drop in or attend the entire session. Basketball is a great, fun way to get in some exercise while having fun with friends and neighbors.

East Coast Swing Dance This is your classic six count swing. Very fun and easy to learn. You will first be taught the basic principles of dance. By the end of this five week series you will be able to attend a social event and actually dance.
