Ice Pupa

In collaboration with Eduard Haiman Toronto, Canada 2016 Ice Pupa was created for a WinterStations competition. Ice Pupa is a structure similar to an ice sculpture designed to serve as a shelter around a lifeguard stand on Toronto beach. It is made of ice bricks with inserted Wind Vibration Energy Harvesters that collect wind energy and shine at night-time. PUPA is constructed by igloo’s snowbrick laying method. It glows in sunlight during daytime and shines like a lantern during the night. PUPA is designed for cold winter months. At the end of the season ice bricks would melt, only Piezo Elemets should be stored for a possible re-use.

Stove Hut

Personal project New Brunswick, Canada 2015 Stove Hut is a project created for a competition for the backwoods cabin of the future that should be compact in size and with minimized greenhouse gas emissions. For this challenge, I created a full-season cabin based on a traditional Russian stove system playing a role of a base structure and a warm bed. The cabin is covered with a light skin made of wooden rails and roofing elements insulated with moss. Made of local materials this cabin can perfectly suit to Canadian forests where the temperature and climate are much the same as in Russian midland.

Greater Moscow As a part of Ostozhenka Team Moscow, Russia 2012

Given the lack of space in the city centre, the Moscow City Council is considering an extension of the urban field by extending and developing 150,000 hectares of land to the south-west of the city. Our team worked on the proposed extension as a driving force for the future of Greater Moscow, while considering the impact of massive urbanisation on the new areas. Improving urban quality of life is the primary objective of Greater Moscow, providing a natural setting for something extraordinary. Project link: http://ostarch.ru/main/projects?id=38

River City

As a part of Ostozhenka Team Moscow, Russia 2016 - 2017 Bureau Ostozhenka participated in a competition for a new residential area in place of a former factory situated nearby Moscow City District on the banks of Moscva River. To reach the necessary amount of spaces our team developed a high-density residential area with small low-height (24 m) urban blocks condensed with high towers (75-100m) surrounded by new park areas and embankment. In that way, a new human-scale environment was formed with all range of urban functions. Our team won this competition and is currently working on the project.

As a part of the River City project, a new school was designed to accommodate all children of the new residential area. The school was designed as a number of different functional buildings linked with a common first floor working as a covered plaza and a place for all students communication and various activities. Its roof also works as an enclosed courtyard were children can have out-door refreshment and lessons.

Krasnye Vorota Office Building As a part of Ostozhenka Team Moscow, Russia 2017

Bureau Ostozhenka was asked to design a new facade for a narrow office building sited near Krasnye Vorota Metro station. Standing on a noisy and high-speed city artery among pseudo-historical architecture this building needed a vague and protective envelope. This goal was achieved with two versions. The one presented here consists of numerous gilded plates that can catch the wind and constantly change the building’s appearance blurring the facade and playing with the sunlight.
