Winter 2017 Market Report

Proudly presented by Paul Eaton from Place pauleaton.com.au

Hello and welcome to the winter edition of my Corinda Suburb Report. Be sure to contact me if you would like me to pop around and update you on how much your home has increased in value, so you are able to make the best decision moving forward. My team and I continue to list and sell homes near you in my specialist area of Corinda. Paul Eaton – Lead Agent at Place 0431 599 568 pauleaton@eplace.com.au pauleaton.com.au

Catching up with Tennyson Ward Councillor Nicole Johnston Thanks for your time Nicole. Please share with us a little about your career history. Well let me just start off by saying it’s been a wonderful ten year journey as Tennyson Ward Councillor. I have now been elected three times and it’s fantastic to represent the local community. After I finished my law degree, I went to work for the Attorney General of Queensland and did

two and a half years working as an Advisor in State Government. Then in my late twenties I went down to Canberra and worked as a Media Advisor for the Minister for Justice and Customs. Therefore, I think one of the great things I can draw on as the local Councillor is that I understand how all levels of Government work and I work pretty closely with State and Federal Members to try and get the best outcomes for our community.

What is it that you love about Corinda and the nearby area? I’m a local resident and I believe we live in the best district in Brisbane. We have wonderful parks, brilliant schools, and great recreational opportunities – there are so many sporting clubs for both adults and kids. We’re a rich community with a great lifestyle and there’s just so much for everyone. Whether you’re single, whether you’re a family in the district, and certainly our seniors – there are community groups available to everyone! Plus we’re only 8-10km from the CBD and there’s a great train line, so if you work in town you can have the best of both worlds by leaving the chaos behind and coming back out to our beautiful district. Is there anything in particular you would like to let locals know about? The key for my team and I is making sure Tennyson Ward is very liveable. A lot of the work we do is trying to make sure that when there is change that we manage in a way that’s going to benefit our community. We’re always working on major playground updates in our community. We recently had a major upgrade to

Paul with Nicole Johnston

the Dunlop Memorial Pool with brand new pool facilities going in there and the new operators are doing a wonderful job providing one of the most popular pools in Brisbane. We’ve got other park upgrades happening, new footpaths being built, and roads are being improved. How can locals be involved? As mentioned, one of the great things about our district is that we have a range of community groups involved in all aspects of community life. My team, as well as State and Federal Members, work very closely with the groups about what’s happening in our area. They’re always the first people I speak to in finding out whether something’s a good idea or not, and it really depends on your interest as to what you’d like to get involved with. I work with the Oxley/ Chelmer history group to write books and to document the history of our local area. If you want to get involved in one of these great local community groups, you can find them all on my website. We’re also very lucky with our schools. There are a wonderful mix of state schools, private schools and childcare centres. I work actively with all of those groups to make sure that we’re doing things that are going to improve safety, access and amenity. You can join my mailing list and get my monthly update about what’s happening in our area and keep track of developments, new initiatives and to keep in touch with me.

Enjoy the Corinda Golf Complex this winter What better way to thaw out in the brilliant blue sunshine this winter than by playing a round of 9 hole golf or 18 hole pitch n putt at the Corinda Golf Complex. Conveniently located at 375 Cliveden Ave, it is good wholesome fun for the whole family to enjoy. The complex is open seven days a week from 6am-6pm, is fully licensed, and boasts a bbq area, so it’s also perfect for your next work event or birthday! 9 Hole Golf The course has been designed with new golfers and the family in mind. It consists of five par 3 holes and four par 4 holes. It is a relaxed atmosphere with no formal dress code, and a round is just $17! Club hire is $8 and competitions for social club members are on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. 18 Hole Pitch n Putt This is another game for the whole family to enjoy, as well as ideal for golfers wanting to hone their short game. It involves pitching the ball onto the green and then putting it into the hole. All holes are par 3 and range from 30 to 70 metres in length. Hire of pitching wedge and putter is just $3, and it’s $8 for 9 holes, or $11 for 18 holes. Competitions for social club members are on Saturdays. Contact 3379 7836 or tony@oxleygolfcomplex.com.au for more information.
