Why we love the Darling Downs with Trevor Leishman

Issue #1: We’ve got it all! It’s a well known fact that Toowoomba and the Darling downs region has it all – a beautiful climate, fantastic transport options, a thriving local community and some of the best educational facilities in Australia. But while this is what attracts buyers to the region, what is it that makes them stay? Over the course of the coming weeks, based on feedback from buyers and sellers, we are going to share some of your opinions on why you love the Darling Downs – starting with our farming/agricultural industry.

If you were to research the history of the Darling downs, you might stumble across this simple description from the early 1900’s: “4 million acres of the richest soil in the world.” Google “Darling Downs Farming” today, and you’ll be hit with the same sentiment – our region has some of Queensland’s best agricultural land: it’s incredibly fertile. It’s moisture rich. We can grow nearly everything here. Combine this with the innovation and dedication of our local farmers and you are left with one of the most productive agricultural regions in Australia. This is all very impressive - but for the locals it’s no surprise. Whether they’re new to the area or have been farming in the region for generations, they know what they grow and how they grow it. They don’t need to be reminded of how great their soil is – they’re out there working in it, every day. Most days, it probably doesn’t feel like much more than just dirt. And yet… there is something exceptional that draws them in and keeps them here, even when times get tough: There is no better place in Queensland – quite possibly the whole of Australia – to be involved in agriculture. We are proud of the crops we grow, the livestock we produce, and our

agricultural roots are strong – did you know that in 1912, Queensland produced 1.97 million bushels of wheat? And that of those, 1.87 million came from the Darling downs? Our agricultural industry is strongly supported in our local communities, with one in five local businesses supporting local agriculture. We have festivals dedicated to promoting and supporting our local producers, and with the massive infrastructure developments on our doorstep, we are at the cusp of some truly incredible and exciting export opportunities. We are an agricultural mecca. This is why we live here. This is why we farm here. This is why buyers love the Darling Downs. Trevor Leishman 0427 598 106 I Trevor.Leishman@elders.com.au
