IL CENTRO ESPOSITIVO - Il Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via exhibition centre, che ospita l’internazionale spagnola del packaging, è stato progettato dall’architetto giapponese Toyo Ito e rappresenta uno dei più moderni quartieri fieristici d’Europa. È situato fra L’Hospitalet de Llobregat e Barcelona, in un’area in piena espansione che ospita centri direzionali, il cuore giudiziario della città e una zona commerciale di rilievo, nei pressi dell’aeroporto. Attualmente, occupa uno spazio di 200,000 m2 destinato ad aumentare a 240,000 m2 dopo la costruzione di due nuovi padiglioni (il 6 e il 7).

THE EXHIBITION CENTER - The Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via exhibition center, which hosts the Spanish international packaging association, was designed by the Japanese architect Toyo Ito and represents one of Europe’s most cutting edge exhibition centers. It is located between the Hospitalet de Llobregat and Barcelona, in a rapidly developing area which hosts transportation hubs, the judiciary heart of the city and an important commercial zone, near the airport. Currently, it occupies a space of 200,000 m2 destined to increase to 240,000 m2 after the construction of two new pavilions (6 and 7).

LA SPAGNA COME OPPORTUNITÀ S

pagna: “porta” del Mediterraneo, strada maestra verso il punto in cui Europa e Africa si sfiorano, scambiando merci e culture; ma anche Paese della grande crescita economica e sociale, con tassi di sviluppo da area emergente in un contesto da primo mondo avanzato... I motivi di interesse - e, ammettiamolo, a tratti anche di invidia - per questo paese vitale, industrioso e felice sono parecchi.

Ma che ne è, ora, di tanto dinamismo, viste le difficoltà diffuse in cui versa l’economia globale? Come reagisce il mercato locale nelle sue varie articolazioni? E quali concrete prospettive di export continua a offrire ai produttori italiani di materiali, macchine e servizi per il processo alimentare, l’imballaggio e il finelinea?

Infine, cosa ci si può aspettare da una fiera B2B consolidata come Hispack? Cosa mette in campo di “speciale” per sostenere gli operatori nell’impresa di raggiungere “i mari calmi” del dopo-tempesta?

Lo abbiamo chiesto al direttore di Hispack 2009, Xavier Pascual.

HISPACK 09 Questa edizione dell’internazionale spagnola del packaging e del food processing ha luogo in un momento di crisi economica globale, di cui è impossibile tacere e che è prioritario capire. Come sta reagendo il mercato spagnolo e quali opportunità offre agli operatori?

Il parere del direttore della manifestazione, Xavier Pascual.

Neppure un anno fa il contesto economico era sensibilmente diverso dall’attuale, con buone prospettive per l’industria del packaging e con Hispack chiamata a svolgere il ruolo di acceleratore che spetta agli appuntamenti B2B. Cosa è cambiato, in sostanza, per il comparto?

In effetti il clima economico ha subito un drastico mutamento; tuttavia il settore imballaggio, in Spagna, sta esprimendo massima fiducia a Hispack, considerato elemento in grado di rendere più dinamico il mercato. Il salone può contare sul forte sostegno di aziende, associazioni ed enti, sulla loro fedeltà; in particolare, le industrie spagnole sanno che è importante essere presenti a Hispack perché, nel suo percorso, che l’ha definita come fiera di rife-

rimento del packaging, ha già dimostrato di essere risolutiva in momenti di crisi o incertezza economica. Inoltre molte aziende straniere vedono il salone come un’opportunità per accedere al mercato spagnolo, o ampliare le proprie quote di mercato o, ancora, contattare compratori del Mediterraneo o dell’America Latina.

Stiamo affrontando questa edizione con moderato ottimismo ma, a onor del vero, non siamo lontani dal rispettare le previsioni iniziali di partecipazione. Ritengo che la cosa più importante sia la “scommessa” che il settore sta facendo su Hispack: in momenti come questo abbiamo l’obbligo di rispondere alle aspettative e realizzare tutte le azioni che sono nelle nostre possibilità per attrarre una domanda qua-

Spain as an opportunity

Not even a year ago the economic context was decidedly different to what it is now, with good prospects for the packaging industry and with Hispack called upon to perform the role of accelerator, role typical of B2B encounters. Basically how have things changed for the segment?

Indeed the economic climate has changed drastically; all the same the packaging sector in Spain is expressing max faith in Hispack, considered an element that is capable of making the market more dynamic.

The show can count on strong support from companies, associations and bodies, on their loyalty in particular, and the Spanish concerns know that it is important to be present at Hispack because, as it has shown in its wake as the most important packaging fair for the area, it has already proven to be

HISPACK 09 This edition of the international Spanish food processing show takes place at a time of global economic crisis, which one cannot ignore and that has to be understood. How is the Spanish market facing up to it and what opportunities does it offer the operators? The opinion of the show director Xavier Pascual.

Spain: “port” of the Mediterranean, highway towards the point where Europe and Africa almost touch, exchanging goods and culture; but also country of great economic and social growth, with emerging area growthrates in an advanced first-world context… The reasons we are interested - an interest one has to concede at times tinged with envy - in this vital, industrious and happy country are many. But what has happened now to all that dynamism, given the widespread difficulties of the

global economy? How is the local market reacting in its various branches? And what concrete prospects for exports does it continue to offer Italian food process materials, machines, packaging and end-of-line builders and providers?

Lastly, what can we expect from a consolidated B2B fair like Hispack?

What “special” features are being fielded in supporting operators in the efforts to reach the “calm seas” beyond the storm?

We posed these questions to the

decisive in times of crisis or economic uncertainty. As well as that many foreign concerns see the show as an opportunity for accessing the Spanish market, or for extending their share of the market or again, for contacting Mediterranean and Latin American buyers.

We are tackling this edition with moderate optimism but, to tell you the truth, we are not far off from respecting the initial forecasts in participation. I am of the opinion that the most important thing is the “wager” that the sector is putting on Hispack: in times like these we are obliged to respond to expectations and create all the actions within our possibilities to attract a qualified demand, from inside and outside Spain.

Q - According to figures for 2008, and the very first perceptions for this beginning of 2009, how are

D - Secondo i dati 2008, e alle primissime percezioni relative a questo inizio 2009, come stanno andando in Spagna i mercati dell’imballaggio, del POP e del processo alimentare? Quali i segmenti più dinamici e quali i più colpiti dalle difficoltà?

Gli ultimi dati certi sono del 2007 e indicano che, in soli quattro anni, l’industria spagnola dell’imballaggio ha registrato una crescita del 21% in relazione al fatturato e del 14% in volume. Pur non disponendo ancora delle cifre per il 2008, sappiamo che la tendenza ha subito un rallentamento a partire dal terzo trimestre dell’anno scorso, causato dalla caduta dell’attività industriale e dal calo degli investimenti.

E sebbene sia sempre difficile fare previsioni, ci si aspetta che alcuni segmenti si dimostrino più dinamici di altri. Per esempio, si prevede una crescita nel comparto food, in particolare per quanto riguarda la produzione di piccoli contenitori, in grado di soddisfare l’esigenza di monoporzioni.

Per quanto riguarda le macchine, la tendenza è di adottare tecnologie avanzate e modulari, per coniugare al meglio processo e imballaggio.

Per finire, il POP è in continua evoluzione, non solo nel settore alimentare o cosmetico, ma anche in quei comparti che puntano a potenziare le vendite.

things going in Spain on the packaging, the POP and the food processing markets? What are the most dynamic segments and which are those most beset by difficulties?

The last sure figures are for 2007 and indicate that in only four years, the Spanish packaging industry registered a growth of 21% in terms of turnover and 14% in volume. While still not having the full figures for 2008 at our disposal, we know that things slowed down starting from the third quarter of last year due to the drop in industrial activity and the drop in investments.

And while it is always difficult to make forecasts, it is expected that some segments show themselves more dynamic than others. For example, a growth in the food segment is expected, in particular as far as the production of small containers is concerned, specifically to satisfy the demand for monoportions.

trend is towards adopting advanced and modular technology to best match process and packaging.

Lastly, POP is evolving continuously, not only in the food and cosmetics sector, but also in those segments that aim at strengthening sales.

Q - And among the outlet sectors?

Where do the best prospects lie for the foreign packaging and machine producers? In particular, what trends are the anticyclical sectors showing, food and pharmaceuticals first and foremost.

Indeed, despite the crisis, the agrofood sector is continuing with its propulsive force and its driving industrial growth. I believe that Spain is a particularly interesting market for packaging and food technology suppliers, inasmuch as it exports 10% of its total value of food and beverages to Europe. The food industry continuously demands new

D - E fra i settori di sbocco? Dove si prospettano le migliori possibilità di export per i produttori stranieri di packaging e macchinari? In particolare, che tendenze manifestano i settori anticiclici per definizione - alimentare e farmaceutico in primis? È il settore agro-alimentare che, nonostante la crisi, continua a mantenere una forza propulsiva e a essere motore di sviluppo industriale. Credo che la Spagna sia un mercato particolarmente interessante per i fornitori di packaging e di tecnologie alimentari, in quanto esporta in Europa il 10% del valore totale della produzione di alimenti e bevande. L’industria alimentare chiede materiali sempre nuovi, formati diversi, design e immagine che riescano a “vendere” il prodotto, confezioni più funzionali, soluzioni di tracciabilità e sicurezza lungo l’intera catena di produzione e distribuzione. Insomma richiedono innovazione costante per raggiungere i diversi target di consumatori.

Per quanto riguarda l’industria farmaceutica, in Spagna, parliamo di un settore maturo che offre però ancora ampie opportunità alle aziende italiane, con il riposizionamento dei consumi verso l’uso di forme medicali solide (compresse ecc…).

D - In questo contesto di crisi diffusa, con la “visibilità” ridotta a pochi metri, quali esigenze manifesta il mondo imprenditoriale? E come cambia il ruolo delle fiere di settore? Gli espositori esprimono aspettative e richieste diverse?

Q - With widespread crisis at hand and “visibility” down to a few metres, what demands are the entrepreneurs putting forward?

How has the role of the sector fair changed? Are exhibitors expressing different expectations and demands?

Come organizzatori, siamo assolutamente consapevoli degli sforzi messi in campo, oggi, dalle aziende che parteciperanno a Hispack. In generale gli espositori manifestano la propria fiducia nella fiera come mezzo per acquisire nuovi clienti sia all’interno sia fuori dalla Spagna, e noi stiamo mettendo in campo ogni azione possibile per rispettare la “missione” di trait d’union fra domanda e offerta. Oggi più che mai, Hispack ha assunto l’impegno di offrire un servizio all’industria dell’imballaggio di cui fa parte, apportando valore aggiunto, presentando l’innovazione, favorendo l’internazionalizzazione, offrendo opportunità di formazione e attirando visitatori qualificati con potere d’acquisto. Abbiamo realizzato uno studio sui visitatori professionali della scorsa edizione, dove si attesta che tutte le più grandi aziende spagnole utilizzatrici di packaging, attive in tutti gli ambiti industriali (alimentare, bevande, farmacia, chimica e profumeria cosmetica) visitano Hispack.

D - Quale plusvalore si aspetta di trovare l’industria spagnola nell’offerta dei produttori italiani?

D - Quest’anno Hispack valorizza con particolare impegno la duplice anima di expo del processo alimentare e del packaging. Quali sono le potenzialità di una ricetta che sembra piacere sempre di più agli organizzatori di fiere?

In questa edizione sommiamo le potenzialità di due saloni indipendenti, Hispack e BTA, e contiamo sulla maggiore attrattiva esercitata dai due eventi concomitanti e “contigui”. Di fatto abbiamo creato la più grande piattaforma commerciale per l’industria dell’imballaggio e delle tecnologie alimentari. Una decisione, questa, che risponde a una logica propria di mercato, visto che il settore agroalimentare è il principale utilizzatore di imballaggio. Mi piace ricordare che, nel 2008, l’industria agroalimentare spagnola ha mantenuto una stabilità invidiabile, con una crescita dei volumi di fatturato (+2,4%) e con una bilancia commerciale positiva; non solo: ha creato posti di lavoro, anche in un momento economico come quello che stiamo vivendo e, nel nostro Paese, è il comparto industriale più forte e dinamico. Ecco perché Hispack e BTA insieme rappresentano, per espositori e visitatori, un’opportunità ■ di business preziosa.

Q - What added value does the Spanish industry expect in the Italian producers offer?

As of various editions Italy is the foreign country with the greatest number of exhibitors at Hispack, as well as traditionally being one of the main machine suppliers in Spain.

Italian technology is appreciated tout court, the same as their service capacity. Italian participation at the show is hence as ever fundamental for two reasons: for the added value of concreteness and innovation that they are able to bring but also because being at the fair for them means keeping up the positions acquired on our market.

Q - This year Hispack is particularly committed to emphasising its dual spirit of food processing and packaging show.

What are the potentialities of a formula that seems to appeal

evermore to the organizers?

In the edition we are summing together the potentialities of two independent shows, Hispack and BTA, and we are counting on the greater draw of the two “contiguous” events held at the same time. Indeed we have created the largest commercial platform for the packaging and food technology industry. A decision this that responds to intrinsic market logic, given that the agrofood sector is the main packaging user. I like to reiterate that in 2008 the Spanish agrofood industry showed an enviable stability, with a growth in turnover (+2.4%) and a positive commercial balance; not only that: it created jobs, this even in the economic situation we are going through, and in our country it is the strongest and most dynamic segment.

This is why Hispack and BTA represent a prime business opportunity for exhibitors and visitors alike.

After participating at the Ipack-Ima fair, Fuji Seal Europe presents at Hispack with some new additions with respect to

Il sofisticato sistema di dosaggio permette una distribuzione omogenea del caffé, garantendo così un’estrema uniformità di distribuzione del prodotto nella cialda e un’elevata accuratezza del suo profilo.

Il ciclo produttivo completo delle cialde, fino al confezionamento in busta esterna termosaldata, viene effettuato in atmosfera modificata e condizionata. ■ ULMA PACKAGING Lo scorso febbraio, ULMA Packaging (hall 3 - stand C319) ha siglato un accordo per l’acquisto della società IPS Dairypack, aumentando così la propria offerta di soluzioni per il settore lattierocaseario.

Con quartiere generale a Rioja (Spagna), IPS progetta e costruisce confezionatrici e riempitrici destinate prevalentemente al settore lattiero-caseario, con la possibilità di trattare anche un’ampia gamma di prodotti viscosi come yogurt, dessert,

Scatolificio Cristina Transparent quality for Scatolificio Cristina (Bodio Lomnago, VA), which will present a new image at its stand at Hispack to convey its latest achievement: BRC-IoP Issue 3 food packaging certification, attesting that Cristina rigorously meets the health and hygiene requirements at the work place for printing on the outside of food-contact containers.

The company also offers food packaging in PET-R, a material that is 85% recyclable and able to guarantee, as well as ecocompatibility, excellent functionality and printing performance.

The Italian converter’s offer has also met the approval of two prestigious English chains that have resorted to it for their own top-of-the-range products. In particular, Waitrose chose the 300 micron PET-R packaging printed in offset on the outside with 4 special colors, one of which is translucent, and soft fold finish (1).

Sainsbury’s, instead, requested the 300 micron PET-A pack printed in offset on the outside with 5 special colors, one of which is metallic and another translucent (2), and soft fold finish.

l contenuto innovativo dell’impianto e la delicatezza del prodotto da trattare contribuiscono a elevare il rapporto tecnologia-affidabilità della linea di imballaggio per capsule di caffé proposta da Cama (Garbagnate Monastero, LC). Nella pratica, 400 capsule di caffé in arrivo su quattro file vengono imballate in un particolare astuccio esagonale, in configurazione da 15. Le capsule, gestite singolarmente, sono raggruppate e inserite in un convogliatore a tasche multiple, per poi essere prelevate da un robot a tre assi (sempre targato Cama). L’aggiunta di un terzo asse di rotazione consente l’inserimento di gruppi di capsule negli alveoli dell’astucciatrice elettronica a moto alternato.

Con Rexroth ad Anuga Food-Tech Alla fiera Anuga di Colonia, Cama Group ha presentato il robot MN, equipaggiato con il sistema IndraMotion di Bosch Rexroth che, grazie alla funzionalità a cinematica multipla, consente l’integrazione efficiente e rapida di uno o più robot. Il sistema di controllo copre tutti i layout d’impianto assicurando tempi ridotti di progettazione e messa in servizio. Il robot MN a 2-4 assi, di dimensioni ridotte, è proposto come prodotto competitivo sia nel settore flowpack (merendine, cioccolati, snack, etc. fino a 350/400 cpm) sia in tutte le applicazioni dove nella stessa scatola debbano essere caricati varianti dello stesso prodotto.

All in the spirit of the motto “more technology, less cost”.

The innovative contents of the facility and the fragility of the product to be treated contribute to raising the technology/reliability ratio of this packaging line for coffee pods proposed by Cama (Garbagnate Monastero, LC). In practice, 400 coffee pods arriving on four lines are packaged in a special hexagonal case that holds 15 units. The pods, handled individually, are grouped together and inserted into a conveyor with multiple pockets, to then be

picked by a triple axis robot (also Cama brand). The addition of a third rotation axis enables the insertion of groups of pods into the honeycombs by the alternative motion electronic cartoning machine. Subsequently, the products are gently inserted into the hexagonal case and closed.

With Rexroth at Anuga Food-Tech - At Cologne’s Anuga fair, Cama Group presented the MN robot, equipped with Bosch Rexroth’s

IndraMotion system, whose multiple kinematic functioning enables quick and efficient integration of one or more robots. The control system covers all facility layouts, ensuring reduced planning and installation times. The 2-4 axis MN robot, with its small dimensions, is proposed as a competitive product in the flowpack sector (treats, chocolate, snacks etc. up to 350-400 cpm), as well as in all applications where variants of the same product must be loaded into the same box.

Cama worked in collaboration with Bosch Rexroth (Cernusco sul Naviglio, MI), a manufacturer of drive and motion control systems, which supplied the machine’s control cabinet: all the power electronics occupy an extremely limited space, and wiring operations have been

considerably simplified. Furthermore, IndraWorks, the standardized engineering software supplied by Bosch Rexroth, has simplified the process of setting the kinematic chains, while Sercos III, an Ethernetbased realtime communication control system, offers the user greater freedom of configuration with complex installations.

All this allows Cama Group to sequence and synchronize any number of axes, using realtime crossed communication between various Rexroth controller-based control systems. This is a system solution which also enables easily integrating camera systems and provides the option of installing the robots onto pre-existing installations in a short period of ■ time and at any time.

Unika: la prima “combi” per l’HDPE Nel corso di Anuga Footech, è stato presentata ufficialmente un impianto di confezionamento destinato a suscitare grande interesse; si tratta di Unika, macchina meccatronica, che combina esperienze e tecnologie di due aziende italiane: l’extrusion blow moulding di Techne e l’unità di riempimento e tappatura di Acma. Il sistema può essere impiegato tanto nel settore food, per il trattamento di prodotti caseari, salse, succhi di frutti, quanto nei settori industriali (prodotti per la cura del corpo, lubrificanti e prodotti chimici per la pulizia della casa).

In fiera, Unika realizzava bottiglie monostrato di HDPE da 250 cc (a 4.500 pezzi/ora) per un’applicazione nel settore lattiero-caseario; la macchina è in grado di produrre e riempire bottiglie mono o multistrato da 80 ml a 2 l, mentre per formati fino a 5 litri sono disponibili altre versioni.

Il sistema G Nova, adatto a prodotti vegetali come le conserve di pomodoro, è composto da linea di confezionamento e nastri di buste preformate piatte o stand up, anche sagomate, con formati da 70 a 500 ml.

Le buste possono essere prodotte con diverse tipologie di laminati alta barriera con o senza alluminio, anche adatte al microonde. Anuga Foodtec 2009 witnessed the official launch of a packaging system that should arouse great interest; called Unika, the new mechatronic machine combines the experience and technologies of two Italian concerns: the extrusion blow moulding knowhow of Techne and the filling and capping expertise of Acma. Unika is suitable both for food (dairy products, sauces, fruit juices) and industrial applications (personal care, lubricants and household chemicals). During the fair, Unika produced mono-layer HDPE 250 cc bottles for a dairy application at 4.500 pc/h; the machine can mould and fill bottles (mono or multi-layer) from 80 ml to 2 l. Larger bottle volumes up to 5 litres can be produced with other Unika versions.

This machine does not require long machine stops for cleaning and maintenance; • labour reduced - by 50% in comparison to traditional packaging lines; • high flexibility - fast mould, color and liquid product change; • efficiency - high production rates thanks to on-line technical assistance, remote production data retrieval and the automatic setup of the production parameters; • high accuracy - net weight precision filling technology is reliable and superior to the performance of any other system available on the market; • completely mechatronic - industrial PC based, with bus wiring and the most innovative solutions for granting flexibility and high production; • modular - state-of-the-art machine design, assembly and test procedures. Unika can be standardized to a considerable degree, having a formidable impact on the reduction of the delivery times. Also to be underlined the system’s low noise along with its hygiene and low environmental impact.

If required, the bottles produced can be in conformity with strict parameters verified via the use of CP/CPK 6 Sigma analysis equipment.

Complete range The Fres-co System® project illustrates Goglio (Daverio, VA) penchant for innovation on a complete range of products: multilayer high barrier materials, in reels or in pouches, aseptic bags up to 1,500 litres, plastic accessories (one-way degassing valves, spouts) and automatic packaging lines. The range provides packaging solutions for all powders, liquids and chunks in the food, pet food, detergents, retail and converting sectors.

The recently developed G Nova system, suitable for vegetable products such as tomato preserves, consists of a packaging line fed by preformed flat or stand up pouches, with particular shapes and formats from 70 to 500 ml. The pouches can be produced with different types of high barrier laminates with or without aluminium, even suitable for microwave oven. Thus the concern continues down a path of innovation that makes flexible packaging an ever more advantageous solution, thanks, in particular, to reductions in packaging weight, thickness and volume, as well as to the use of ecofriendly materials, not to mention simpler packaging solutions.

E ORA… SPAZIO AI PRODOTTI PHARMAPACK 2009 L’appuntamento parigino con il packaging farmaceutico trasloca in un nuovo padiglione, raccoglie nuovi espositori (che crescono del 30%), attira più visitatori (+38%) e l’anno prossimo raddoppia, con il lancio di Biomedevice. n nuovo e più ampio spazio espositivo di 3757 m2, dalla suggestiva architettura liberty; un numero di espositori in forte crescita (+30%: 193 di cui il 56% internazionali); una soddisfazione pressoché unanime espressa sia dalle imprese in mostra sia dai visitatori, anch’essi in aumento del 38% (2.200 circa il numero complessivo, per il 35% non francesi, provenienti da 44 Paesi).

Con questi risultati la mostra-convegno Pharmapack chiude l’ottava edizione (Parigi, Grande Halle de la Villette, 21 e 22 gennaio 2009) e conferma il ruolo di spicco che gioca fra le manifestazioni dedicate all’imballaggio per il settore della salute.

Quest’anno è stata organizzata per la prima volta da Canon Communications che ne sposa la formula originaria. La manifestazione, dunque, ha mantenuto il proprio centro nel convegno internazionale della durata di due giorni, di cui la mostra è imprescindibile integrazione offrendo l’occasione per “toccare con mano” molti dei prodotti presentati in sede teorica.

L’intento è di offrire al pubblico selezionato e molto qualificato dei visitatori professionali una reale occasione di aggiornamento e di approfondimento sul packaging farmaceutico e i relativi complementi.

E se la maggior parte delle presentazioni effettuate durante il convegno illustra prodotti e avanzamenti tecnologici, non mancano le panoramiche sul mercato e sulla legislazione effettuate da ricercatori universitari, marketer e altri esperti chiamati ad animare l’evento. Che trova un’efficace cassa di risonanza, sul piano della comunicazione e della promozione, nei Pharmapack Award.

Il prossimo Pharmapack, si svolgerà ancora alla Grande Halle de La Villette, a Parigi, l’1 e 2 febbraio 2010, con una novità di rilievo: il varo di una nuova manifestazione B2B, denominata Biomedevice e focalizzata sui dispositivi biomedicali. Distinta ma complementare, si svolgerà negli stessi spazi e negli stessi giorni della fiera del packaging farmaceutico con l’intento di “fare filiera” e valorizzare le sinergie fra i settori rappresentati.

And now… space for products PHARMAPACK 2009 The Parisian appointment with pharmaceutical packaging moves to a new site, takes on new exhibitors (whose numbers have grown by 30%), attracts new visitors (+38%) and the next year doubles, with the launch of Biomedevice.

A new and larger showroom of 3757 m2 with art nouveau architecture; a fast growing number of exhibitors (+30%: 193 of which 56% international); a virtually unanimous satisfaction expressed by both participating concerns and visitors, themselves having increased by 38% (circa 2,200 in total, 35% nonFrench, from 44 countries).

With these results the Pharmapack show/conference closes its eighth edition (Paris, Grande Halle de la Villette, January 21st and 22nd, 2009) and confirms its standout role among packaging events for the Health sector.

This year the event was hosted for

the first time by Canon Communications, which pairs up with the original formula. The event thus maintained its center with the two-day international conference that accompanies the exhibition (and vice-versa), offering a chance to see firsthand many of the products explained. The purpose is to offer to the select and highly qualified audience of visiting professionals a real chance to update its knowledge and learn more about pharmaceutical packaging and accessories. And although the majority of the presentations illustrated products and technological advances, there

was also plenty of coverage of the market and legislation by universities, marketers and other experts speaking at the event.

Which finds an effective help in terms of communication and promotion with the Pharmapack Awards.

The next Pharmapack will also be held at the Grande Hall de la Villette, in Paris, Feburary 1st and 2nd, 2010. With one novelty: the launching of a new B2B event,

called Biomedevice and focused on devices for the biomedical industry.

Distinct from but complementary to Pharmapack, it will be held in the same place on the same days of the pharmaceutical packaging fair with the purpose of “making a chain” and bringing attention to synergies between the sectors represented. ■ In the following pages we present a selection of the products on show to the Paris event.

CONTENITORI IN VETRO BOROSILICATO - Nell’ambito delle conferenze Pharmapack, Bormioli Rocco & Figlio ha avuto modo di approfondire il tema del rilascio di alluminio da contenitori di vetro borosolicato di tipo I (che può verificarsi in seguito alla dissoluzione di un sottilissimo strato superficiale del vetro).

Nel caso di somministrazione prolungata per via parenterale, l’alluminio può infatti raggiungere livelli tossici se la funzione renale è alterata. Bormioli ha confrontato il rilascio di alluminio da contenitori di vetro borosolicato di tipo I, di diversa composizione, dopo un’ora in autoclave a 121 °C. Borosilicate glass containers - During the course of the Pharmapack conferences, Bormioli Rocco & Figlio had the chance to highlight the importance of the release of aluminium by I type borosilicate glass containers (which can occur after the dissolution of a very thin superficial layer of glass). In case of prolonged parenteral administration, aluminium can in fact reach toxic levels if the functioning of the kidneys is affected.

Bormioli compared the release of aluminium by I type borosilicate glass containers of different composition after one hour in autoclave at 121 °C. This cycle corresponds to five years of contact between the surface of the glass and the solution at room temperature (www.bormioliroccopackaging.com).

Packaging for clinical tests - Sanofi-Aventis France has held a conference on packaging pharmaceuticals for clinical tests. Like those sold on the market, medicines for clinical tests are produced by pharmaceutical houses according to GMPs. According to the clinical phase and the mode of administration, the design and the presentation can though be different and the packaging has to be designed in cooperation with the clinical departments. The distribution at world level of this type of pharmaceutical is often under controlled temperatures, with a traceability that involves the entire chain, from production up to administration to the patient. LO SVILUPPO DEL PACKAGING - Nell’ambito delle conferenze Pharmapack, la società belga UCB Pharma (con sede italiana a Pianezza, TO) ha incentrato la propria presentazione sui vari aspetti dello sviluppo del packaging. L’imballaggio, infatti, non può più essere considerato l’ultima tappa nel processo di sviluppo, ampiamente focalizzato sulla formulazione.

Incombono nuove sfide: le molecole e le formulazioni proposte sono più complesse mentre i tempi e i budget sono stati ridotti. Un gruppo per lo sviluppo del packaging nell’ambito della R&S permetterebbe invece alle case farmaceutiche di utilizzare in modo efficace nuove tecnologie e assicurare il miglior rapporto prezzo/qualità (www.ucb.com).

Packaging development - At the Pharmapack conferences, the Belgian company UCB Pharma (Italian branch in Pianezza, TO) focused its presentation on various aspects of packaging development. Packaging, in fact, cannot be considered the last step in the development process, widely focused on its formulation. New challenges arise: the molecules and formulations offered are more complex while times and budgets have been reduced. • Per il confezionamento di fiale e flaconi Curti presenta Ecogenius, un sistema composto da macchina AVM e packaging, entrambe brevettate, per il confezionamento di contenitori di vetro come fiale, flaconcini e carpulle, in un astuccio dotato di separatore interno, ottenuto da un’unica fustella aperta o preincollata. • For packaging vials and bottles, Curti presents Ecogenius, a system composing of an AVM and packaging machine, both patented, for packaging glass containers such as vials, small bottles and others, in a case equipped with an internal separator, obtained from a single die-cut, open or with pregluing. Corredata di etichettatrice e telecamere per il controllo della stampa dell’etichetta, dell’adeguato inserimento dello stantuffo nella siringa e la verifica del colore dello stantuffo, Hasta è stata sviluppata grazie alla collaborazione con altre due aziende italiane, Farmores ed Euretik, per poter proporre alla clientela una linea completa di confezionamento siringhe.

MG2 is synonymous with capsule filling machines. Founded in 1966, the Bologna company has in fact launched on the market the first continuous motion capsule filling machine. On the occasion of Achema, held in May in Frankfurt, the concern will present some new creations.

• Suitable for R&D laboratories, “Labby” is a simple, modular and compact Plug&Play capsule filling machine for conducting clinical trials or production of small lots at speeds reaching up to 3500 capsules/hour (1).

It’s based on the same functioning principles of MG2’s high speed models, on which the doses obtained by Labby can be reproduced. This machine, with its reduced bulk, is capable of dosing powders (with both doser and tamping pin systems) and managing microdosage, tablets, micro-tablets, liquids, time release pills and, by request, can be accessorized with an accurate weight checking system.

• “Hasta” is an assembly machine (inserts the piston into the body of the already filled syringe) available in two versions with a speed of 200-400 insertions per minute (2).

Accessorized with a labeler and camera controlling label printing, adequate insertion of piston into the syringe and piston color verification, Hasta was developed in collaboration with two other Italian concerns, Farmores and Euretik, in order to offer customers a complete syringe packaging line.

La possibilità di saldare a temperature inferiori (da 10 a 30 °C in meno) e di ridurre i tempi stessi della saldatura hanno evidenti ricadute positive per gli utilizzatori: dal punto di vista economico, la diminuzione del costo di ogni singolo sacco (e un contributo Conai coerente), dal punto di vista produttivo, una velocità di insacco che tocca i 2.000 sacchi/ora. ne di polimeri di nuova tecnologia, “firmati” da aziende petrolchimiche come Exxon Mobil e Polimeri Europa, di cui peraltro rifornisce con FFS e stretch wood gli impianti d’insacco dei granuli e di palettizzazione dei sacchi, dislocati in Europa (Francia e Belgio) e oltreoceano (Houston e Singapore).

Materiali e prodotti sono, peraltro, oggetto di analisi chimiche e meccaniche nel laboratorio interno, equipaggiato con attrezzature sofisticate per analisi chimico/meccaniche: calorimetro differenziale DSC, spettrometro, microscopio a infrarossi, spettrometro per analisi di superficie al misuratore dell’indice di fluidità, dinamometro utilizzato per analisi meccaniche, controllo della saldatura a caldo (hot tack) e a freddo, misura della scivolosità e dart test.

Quanto al processo, viene effettuato con un parco macchine allo stato dell’arte, costituito da 14 linee di coestrusione a tre strati, che lavorano su tre turni per 7 giorni alla settimana, con cui Selene produce 18.000 t/anno di materiale. L’ultimo acquisto in ordine di tempo è un coestrusore a tre strati di nuova generazione, in grado di produrre tubolare elastico di piccole dimensioni, destinato al mercato del beverage, per l’incappucciamento di cassette di bottiglie in vetro e fardelli di bottiglie di plastica.

«Abbiamo investito circa due milioni di euro - interviene al riguardo Valter Severini - per un impianto unico nel suo genere in Italia. L’abbiamo avviato nel febbraio scorso e l’elettronica vi gioca un ruolo determinante: cifre alla mano, il software che gestisce i controlli delle macchine ha inciso per 40% sull’investimento com■ plessivo».

Materials and products are furthermore subject to chemical and mechanical testing in the concern’s laboratory, which employs sophisticated chemical/mechanical analysis equipment: DSC differential heat measure, spectrometer, infrared microscope, spectrometer for surface analysis at fluidity index measure, dynamometer for mechanical analysis, cold and hot tack control, slip measure and dart test.

As for the process, it is conducted by state-of-the-art machines, made up of 14 three layer co-extrusion lines

which work in three cycles 7 days a week, with which Selene produces 18,000 tons/year of material.

The most recent acquisition is a latest generation three layer coextruder capable of producing elastic tubular frames of small dimensions, destined for the beverage market, hooding crates of glass bottles and bundles of plastic bottles. “We have invested circa two million euro - comments Valter Severini on the topic - for an installation which is one of its kind in Italy. We started it up last February and electronics plays a key role: according to the numbers, the software which manages the machine controls accounted for 40% of the total investment”.

Nastro trasportatore “solare” Montech AG di Derendingen (CH) ha realizzato un nastro specifico per il settore fotovoltaico. Studiato per il trasporto all’interno degli stabilimenti di parti delicate come “wafer” o celle solari, il nuovo nastro SolTB è costituito da un telaio con due nastri azionati in maniera sincrona, permettendo così di scartare gli eventuali detriti nello spazio libero fra i due nastri. Grazie alla sua concezione modulare, può essere adattato alle varie esigenze dei clienti in termini di larghezza e lunghezza. Il sistema di trasporto può essere fornito completo di nastro o cinghia dentata. Ma non è tutto.

L’intera struttura può essere montata e smontata dall’alto, mentre il nastro vero e proprio può essere sostituito senza smontare la struttura di supporto. Inoltre, essendo privo di angoli sporgenti che interferiscono con il trasporto, il nastro permette di movimentare con la massima cura e precisione i wafer delicati.

“Solar” conveyor belt Montech AG of Derendingen (CH) has made a belt specifically for the solar panel sector. Designed for transporting delicate parts such as “wafers”, or solar cells, within facilities, the new SolTB belt is composed of a frame with two synchronously motorized belts that enable scrapping any debris that might collect on the space between the two belts. Thanks to its modular conception, it can be adapted to the various requirements of customers in terms of width and length. The transport system can be supplied complete with belt or timing belt. • Per la manipolazione e l’imballaggio ad alta velocità con carichi fino a 50 kg si distinguono i robot serie M-420iA e M-421iA, mentre per carichi medi (da 20 a 70 kg) i modelli della serie M-710iC dispongono di un braccio snello ma estremamente rigido e assicurano una ridotta impronta a terra.

Big bag Atex I big bag sono sempre più utilizzati dall’industria manifatturiera per movimentare grandi quantità di polvere, materiali granulari o in pellet. In molti processi industriali in cui sono impiegati i big bag, possono formarsi dei micro ambienti ad alto rischio di infiammabilità (vapori da solvente o nuvole di polvere).

Per proteggere i lavoratori esposti al rischio di atmosfere esplosive (conformità alla direttiva ATEX 137), Minini Imballaggi Srl di Verolanuova (BS) ha progettato e sviluppato una gamma di prodotti antistatici.

• Type A: gli FIBC di Tipo A sono realizzati in tessuto non conduttivo.

• Type B: gli FIBC di Tipo B sono prodotti in tessuto non conduttivo (compreso il rivestimento interno applicato). La tensione di perforazione del tessuto, compreso il rivestimento, non supera i 6 kV per evitare le scariche energetiche che si propagano a fiocco.

• Type C: gli FIBC di Tipo C sono in tessuto non conduttivo, ma contenente fibre o filamenti conduttivi interconnessi. La resistenza a terra, da qualsiasi punto del saccone, è inferiore a 108 OHM. • Type D: in questo modello le lamelle conduttive non sono connesse le une alle altre ma si comportano come conduttori isolati in grado di eliminare le cariche, dissipandole tramite scariche corona di bassa intensità. Possono essere impiegati esclusivamente in presenza di atmosfere infiammabili dopo aver verificato l’esclusione di scariche innescanti.

Atex big bag Big bags are being used more and more by the manufacturing industry for shipping large quantities of powder, granular or pellet materials.

In many industrial processes in which big bags are employed, micro-environments with high inflammability risk can form (solvent vapors or dust clouds).

In order to protect workers exposed to the risk of explosive atmospheres (conformity with ATEX 137 directive), Minini Imballaggi Srl of Verolanuova (BS) has designed and developed a range of antistatic products.

• Type A: the Type A FIBCs are

made of non-conductive fabric.

• Type B: the Type B FIBCs are made of non-conductive fabric (including applied internal lining).

The fabric’s perforation tension, including the lining, does not exceed 6 kV, so as to prevent flock propagated energy charges.

• Type C: the Type C FIBCs are made of non-conductive fabric that contains interconnected conductive fibers or filaments. The ground resistance, from any point of the sack, is less than 108 OHM. • Type D: in this model the conductive plates are not interconnected but behave as isolated conductors capable of eliminating charges, dissipating them through low intensity corona discharges. They can be used only in presence of inflammable atmospheres after exclusion of sparks has been verified.

In brief Founded more than 35 years ago, since 2004 Trascar SpA has grown considerably expanding its logistics selection, from product packaging to warehouse storage, using automatic systems developed in house: conveyors, elevators, palletisation islands with automatic systems for feeding empty pallets and moving finished ones, pallet transport lines and automatic warehouses with shifting elevators.

Ritrama has entrusted Trascar SpA (Bomporto, MO) with a complex task: completely automated packaging and palletisation of reels manufactured by its affiliate Coating Ricofin. D.B.

Special equipment Knowhow counts, and, often, it can open doors unexpectedly. That’s what has happened at Trascar, which had already enjoyed a positive experience with the complete end of line automation of Ritrama’s adhesive paper production: from the jumbo reel loading system to the cutters and the automatic shuttle unloading system and subsequent palletisation with anthropomorphic robots for

storage and shipping of the finished product. A valuable experience that helped Trascar in the development of an ever more complex project.

Ritrama indeed turned to the Modena concern because it required automatic systems capable of managing operations previously carried out manually by Coating Ricofin operators.

Trascar, for its part, has worked for years in automatic reel handling (of

Ma vediamo come Trascar sia riuscita, in questo caso, a soddisfare - senza alcun compromesso - le esigenze di Coating Ricofin, realizzando un progetto innovativo, che ha incontrato il favore del cliente, formalizzato in un ordine siglato a fine 2007.

immediate favor of the customer and convinced them to seal the deal in late 2007.

The appeal of complexity The paper reels manufactured by Coating Ricofin have a diameter of 120-350 mm and height of up to 2,100 mm. All reels are packaged in a polyethylene bag, incapsulated with two square pressure caps and subsequently placed in a cardboard parallelepiped with an open top, in order to ensure the complete solidity of the packaging and perfect integrity of the product.

The boxes are then palletised in vertical axes to complete the automatic cycle; the finished pallet

IL FASCINO DELLA COMPLESSITÀ Le bobine di carta prodotte da Coating Ricofin hanno un diametro compreso tra 120 e 350 mm e altezze fino a 2.100 mm. Ogni bobina viene confezionata in una busta di polietilene, incapsulata con due tappi quadri a pressione e successivamente posta in un parallelepipedo di cartone aperto in cima, al fine di assicurare la completa solidità della confezione e la perfetta integrità del prodotto. Le scatole vengono successivamente palettizzate in asse verticale completando il ciclo automatico; il pallet finito viene etichettato con la relativa packing list e prelevato a fine linea dall’operatore su un carrello elevatore per la spedizione.

Il prodotto, tra l’altro, arriva da diverse linee di ribobinatura a una velocità che supera i 180 prodotti all’ora.

Mimi Srl (Tosa Group, Cossano Belbo, CN) costruisce fardellatrici automatiche con film termoretraibile dal 1978. Negli anni la società si è guadagnata uno spazio di rilievo in alcuni settori, tra i quali quello delle vernici, sviluppando macchinari ad hoc per aziende importanti, con sistemi automatici di raggruppamento delle “latte” di diverse dimensioni e con dispositivi automatici di immissione falde di cartone piano come ulteriore supporto al fardello imballato con film termoretraibile (elemento importante per la normativa ADR).

Ad oggi l’offerta si articola in varie soluzioni, a seconda di velocità richieste, tipo di confezione e ingombri disponibili.

Nella foto il modello Uniblock FPS/90, fardellatrice automatica con dispositivo per inserire la falda di cartone piano sotto le latte già preformate (velocità produttiva: 10 fardelli al minuto). Il magazzino falde è posto lateralmente per facilitare il caricamento delle falde stesse e un braccetto pneumatico munito di ventose provvede al prelievo e alla posa della falda.

Tutte le macchine possono essere equipaggiate con alcuni dispositivi di sicurezza, tra i quali un sistema di evacuazione dei prodotti all’interno del tunnel di retrazione in caso di black out, che coinvolge i prodotti particolarmente sensibili al calore che in quel momento si trovano all’interno del forno per la termoretrazione. Con questa tipologia di macchine, Mimi si rivolge soprattutto ai mercati del Nord Europa e dell’America Latina nonché naturalmente, all’Italia.

Incappucciatrice automatica OMS (Officina Meccanica Sestese) ha puntato l’attenzione sull’incappucciatrice automatica AT53, in grado di avvolgere carichi palettizzati con film termoretraibile tubolare. I bruciatori lineari a gas a emissione di aria calda, impiegati dalla macchina, possono funzionare a gas metano o propano (omologazione numero DG2217 BL 0557, rilasciata dall’Istituto tedesco per il gas, valida in tutta l’Unione europea). La preparazione dei sacchi avviene nel lato posteriore della macchina, mentre nella parte anteriore si esegue l’incappucciamento/termoretrazione.

La AT53 è disponibile nelle versioni con una, due e tre bobine, con tubolari di vario formato. Tutte le funzioni sono gestite da un PLC che controlla sia le operazioni automatiche che manuali. La presenza di un operatore è necessaria solo per il cambio della bobina di film.

Wrapping machines & varnishes Mimi Srl (Tosa Group, Cossano Belbo, CN) has been manufacturing automatic heatshrink wrapping machines since 1978. Over the years the company has gained a prominent place in some sectors, including that of varnishes, developing ad hoc machinery for major concerns, with automatic systems for gathering tin cans of different sizes and with automatic devices for the insertion of cardboard bases to support the shrink-wrapped bundles (essential for ADR regulations).

Today the concern offers various solutions, according to the speed, the packaging and the dimensions required. Pictured is the Uniblock FPS/90 model, an automatic wrapping machine with cardboard

dispenser under the already prearranged cans (maximum throughput of 10 bundles per minute). The cardboard dispenser is located on the side of the machine for an easier loading of the cardboard, and a pneumatic arm with feeding sucker picks up the cardboard and positions it ready for the cans to be placed on top.

All the machines can be equipped with safety devices, among which a product evacuation system inside the shrink tunnel in case of a blackout. This device makes it possible to remove immediately any heat-sensitive product inside the oven for the normal heat shrinking of the film.

The reference markets in this field are Northern Europe, Latin America and of course Italy.

Automatic hooding machine OMS presents its AT53 automatic hooding machine able to wrap palletized loads with heatshrink tubular films. The machine’s gas burners, operating by means of air emission, have been designed to function using either methane or propane gas (certification number DG2217 BL 0557, released by the German Gas Institute, valid throughout EU). The hoods are prepared at the back of the machine while the hooding/heat shrinking is carried out at the front.

The AT53 uses from one to three rolls of stretch film available in different sizes. All the functions are controlled by a PLC that monitors all the automatic and manual operations. The presence of an operator is only required to change the roll of film.

The drives and controls of most of its systems are today run on ELAU (Schneider Electric Group) servomotors.

MACCHINE SERVOASSISTITE: GLI UPGRADE

Il supporto pratico offerto da ELAU, unito alle competenze dei tecnici Synchrosys, ha consentito al costruttore piemontese di rinnovare in pochi mesi molti dei suoi sistemi, tra cui lo stendifette SF-n, il caricatore volumetrico robotizzato CVR-n, la confeziona-

Sulle prime tre macchine, l’equipaggiamento ELAU di bordo prevede servomotori SH070/SH100 e il PacDrive C 400.

Sui sistemi pick and place sono stati invece adottati il PacDrive C 400 e il robot P3.

E se affida a sub-fornitori affidabili e competenti la costruzione dei particolari meccanici, ha avocato a sé tutte le attività “strategiche”: progettazione meccanica ed elettrica-elettronica, verifica del comportamento di prodotti particolarmente complessi sia per caratteristiche fisiche sia per le velocità richieste, montaggio di macchine e linee con relativo cablaggio (compresi gli armadi di controllo), installazione e avviamento presso l’utilizzatore finale. Quella che si configura dunque come un’intensa attività di R&S assorbe una buona percentuale del fatturato e, dato il carattere innovativo dei progetti presentati, è stata talvolta finanziata da enti esterni.

SERVOASSISTED MACHINES: THE UPGRADES

The practical support offered by ELAU, combined with the competencies of the Synchrosys

technicians, has enabled the Piedmontese constructor to revamp many of its systems in just a few months, including the SF-n slice layer, the CVR-n robotised volumetric loader, the flowpack Synchro horizontal packing machines and the pick-and-place systems.

On the first three machines the onboard ELAU equipment includes

servomotori SH070 / SH100 and PacDrive C 400.

In turn PacDrive C 400 and the robot P3 have been adopted on the pickand-place systems.

• The SF-n slice layer is a machine conceived for feeding the toasting ovens in rusk production systems. It essentially comprises an incoming chain of trays, that receive the loaves as they exit from the cutter.

When the chain is full, the loaves are transferred 90° to a storehouse and, from here, to a shutter or roller that

removes the slices one by one from the front of all the loaves, laying them out flat and perfectly aligned on the oven mesh or on a transfer belt positioned before the oven.

All movements are via controlled axis, and special electromechanical devices regulate the thrust of the loaves on the take-out device, this according to the variables associated with the breadmaking process, including initial cooking and seasoning in a special chamber. The machine can be used

It is a versatile machine that enables the creation of a whole series of different types of wrapping: it is based on a main frame, to which the required devices are added to satisfy the various production requirements.

The cutting and the head sealing are obtained using rotating

grippers, or by long dwell or box motion types systems. The longitudinal sealing uses three double rollers, for stretching the film, for its sealing and the folding of the longitudinal fin.

Practically speaking it can do all types of flowpack formats, both mono and multi product, with doses stacked or resting on their sides, in trays or loose, with pre-diecut packing card or continuous unrolling.

Comprende, come standard, tutti i formati di stampa ed è disponibile sia con tastiera a membrana sia in versione touch screen a colori. With an eye for continuous improvement of efficiency in all its equipment, Nimax SpA (Bologna) presents the latest version of the A Series, which adds new functions to the A Series’ traditional applications.

The A plus Series is equipped with integrated Ethernet bus and Web Server, which enable online remote control with no additional software. If the A plus Series is connected to the network, the printer can send email messages to the user. Labeling & Coding

More data, more languages, more pages CCL Label (Italian branch in Concorezzo, MI) is one of the major producers of multipage labels, a field in which it has consolidated experience. Its characteristics make this type of label particularly favored by the pharmaceutical sector. In the early 80’s, it was used to communicate information in two languages, meeting the needs of those manufacturers who sold pharmaceuticals in border areas. No longer required by law, today it is also considered an effective communicational tool in addition to a means by which to bring attention to the product image. Indeed there is no better labeling solution than the multipage label for carrying a farreaching and elaborate message in a small space.

Until recently they were developed mainly for booklet type internal page applications, given its functionality when the surface to label is round.

However, single page solutions are regaining ground from the booklet. Recently, the use of multipage labels is growing primarily in pharmaceutical experimentation: clinical trials increasingly often involve multiple European countries, and the multipage system is the only one which enables, with a single label, carrying information in multiple languages.

Furthermore, such projects require accompanying documentation, which CCL Label is able to print in extremely short time: CRFs (Case Report Forms) are sent to the various experimentation centers and delivered to the doctors who monitor the procedure.

Più dati, più lingue, più pagine CCL Label (sede italiana a Concorezzo, MI) si attesta come uno dei maggiori produttori di etichette multipagina, ambito in cui ha un’esperienza consolidata. Per le sue caratteristiche, questa tipologia di etichetta è particolarmente apprezzata dal settore farmaceutico.

Nei primi anni 80 veniva utilizzata per comunicare informazioni in due lingue, rispondendo alle necessità di quei produttori che vendevano farmaci in aree di confine. Scaduta l’obbligatorietà di legge, oggi, è considerata anche un ottimo strumento comunicativo oltre che un mezzo per valorizzare l’immagine del prodotto. Non esiste infatti alcuna soluzione di etichettatura diretta capace di veicolare un messaggio ampio e articolato su uno spazio ridotto come accade con l’etichetta multipagina. Sino ad ora sono state in prevalenza sviluppate le applicazioni del foglietto interno tipo booklet (ossia a libro), data la funzionalità quando la superficie da etichettare è tonda. Tuttavia anche le soluzioni a foglietto stanno “recuperando” terreno nei confronti del booklet.

Da ultimo, il ricorso all’etichetta multipagina sta crescendo soprattutto nella sperimentazione farmaceutica: i progetti di “clinical trial” coinvolgono sempre più spesso diversi paesi europei e il sistema multipagina è il solo che permette, con una sola etichetta, di veicolare informazioni in più lingue. Inoltre tali progetti richiedono una documentazione accessoria, che CCL Label è in grado di approntare in brevissimo tempo: si tratta dei Crf (Case Report Form) che vengono spediti ai vari centri di sperimentazione e consegnati ai medici che seguono il processo.

Hand-held ink-jet coding Distributed in Italy by Tutto Per l’Imballo (Guastalla, RE), Handjet EBS 250, the result of EBS Ink-Jet System’s experience of the consolidated Picas range, is the first ever hand-held radiofrequency operated “cordless” coder. Ergonomic and compact (weighing less than 1 kg, with batteries and ink cartridge included), it can mark porous and non-porous surfaces and can be used to print on industrial packaging, paper, carton, wood, metal and plastic. An effective alternative to manual marking systems (brushes, rollers, inkballs, etc.), Handjet EBS 250 is equipped with an extremely powerful processor which, when fitted with lithium batteries, can be used for 50 consecutive hours (average recharging time is of 2.5 hours). The piloting software is developed in Windows and a guided user interface means it can be used to compose messages on the marker which can then be sent and memorized by radiofrequency. Progressive and regressive numbering, date, hour, symbols, logos, texts, fonts and special registers are standard functions of the basic configuration. The memory can store up to 1500 characters forming a maximum of 10 messages, which in turn are subdivisible into several lines. The ink cartridge can be quickly and easily replaced, and can print on average 100,000 characters in 7x5 matrix. In addition to the program CD and user manual, the package includes an RF base to be plugged into a USB port on a personal computer. Open field radio coverage is of 50 m.

Shrink sleeve Shrink sleeves, multipages, multilayer and selfadhesive labels are some of the products that Euroadhesiv (Crusinallo di Omegna, VB) designs and makes. In the design phase, Euroadhesiv’s technicians cooperate with the customer, devising optimum solutions in order to create the sleeve best suited to the customer’s needs. This phase can also include 3D graphic simulations of the product after the application of the sleeve and launch tests, thanks to the flexibility and the cost effectiveness offered by digital printing. In traditional printing in turn the company can create solutions that enable the improvement of consumer/product interaction.

Codifica ink-jet portatile Frutto dell'esperienza maturata da EBS InkJet System con la consolidata serie Picas, Handjet EBS 250, distribuito da Tutto Per l’Imballo (Guastalla, RE) è il primo codificatore “cordless” portatile, pilotato in radiofrequenza.

Ergonomico e compatto (pesa meno di 1 kg, batterie e cartuccia inchiostro comprese); può marcare superfici porose e non porose ed è adatto alla stampa su imballaggi industriali, carta, cartone, legno, metallo e plastica. Alternativa efficace ai sistemi di marcatura manuale (pennelli, rulli, tamponi ecc.), Handjet EBS 250 è equipaggiato con un processore estremamente potente che, abbinato alle batterie agli ioni di litio, permette l'utilizzo del sistema per 50 ore consecutive (il tempo di ricarica medio è di 2,5 ore).

Il software di pilotaggio è sviluppato in ambiente Windows e, tramite un'interfaccia utente guidata, consente la preparazione dei messaggi da trasmettere e memorizzare via radiofrequenza nel marcatore. Nella valigetta in dotazione, oltre al CD del programma e al manuale d’uso, è compresa la base RF da collegare alla porta USB del personal computer. La copertura radio in campo aperto è pari a 50 m.

Sleeve termoretraibili Sleeve termoretraibili, multipagina, etichette multistrato, etichette autoadesive sono solo alcuni dei prodotti che Euroadhesiv (Crusinallo di Omegna, VB) progetta e realizza. Nella fase di progettazione, i tecnici Euroadhesiv collaborano con il cliente, studiando la soluzione ottimale per la realizzazione della sleeve più idonea alle varie esigenze. In questa fase possono essere realizzate simulazioni grafiche 3D del prodotto dopo l’applicazione dello sleeve ma anche veri e propri test di lancio, grazie alla flessibilità e all’economicità offerte dalla stampa digitale.

Nella stampa tradizionale, invece, l’azienda è in grado di creare soluzioni che permettono di migliorare l’interazione del consumatore con il prodotto.

LE PAROLE DEL PACKAGING GLOSSARIO RAGIONATO PER IL SISTEMA-IMBALLAGGIO

Il glossario intende far convergere e restituire, in una forma immediata e di facile fruizione, il complesso sistema di conoscenze inerente il packaging: dalle culture del progetto alle tecnologie, dalle tecniche di stampa, ai processi di confezionamento, dalle forme della distribuzione ai contenuti ambientali. Il volume rappresenta un modello di sistematizzazione della conoscenza e si pone come strumento di consultazione nel quale è possibile richiamare attraverso 1.600 lemmi i saperi sui quali, nel tempo, si è costruita la competenza del packaging designer.
