Food&Beverage M a t e r i a l s & M a c h i n e r y A settant’anni dalla prima fiera dedicata alle conserve alimentari ospitata a Parma, sono circa 25.000 le presenze registrate dall’edizione 2009 di Cibus Tec, che ha inaugurato una nuova filosofia di comunicazione diretta a espositori e visitatori. TECNOLOGIA ALIMENTARE: AGGIORNAMENTI ibus Tec 2009 (suddiviso nei settori Tecnoconserve, Milc e Multitecno) ha ospitato per la prima volta anche quattro aree divulgative, dove si svolgevano briefing di 15 minuti sui temi più scottanti per l’industria alimentare (rifiuti; tecnologia e ricerca; servizi per la gestione dei rischi nelle tecnologie alimentari; energia degli alimenti). In parallelo, un nutrito programma di conferenze su svariati argomenti (dai prebiotici o probiotici, posizionamento del settore del pomodoro, ispezione alimentare tramite raggi X, competitività dell’industria delle carni...).

Novità nel packaging - L’edizione 2009 di Cibus Tec - dedicata alla tracciabilità e alla sicurezza alimentare - si è aperta con il convegno “Il trend del packaging nella GDO”, organizzato in collaborazione con Ucima. In questa occasione è stato sottolineato come le private label siano destinate ad affermarsi come tramite

di innovazione nell’imballaggio.

L’agenzia FutureBrand ha invece identificato quattro tendenze fondamentali nel packaging di oggi: semplicità (colori chiari, lettere leggibili); autenticità (colori caldi, recupero di stili retrò); reducing (la riduzione dei materiali); story telling (l’etichetta racconta la storia del prodotto).

Sul fronte della grande distribuzione si avverte invece una sempre maggiore attenzione alla comunicazione e alla sicurezza delle confezioni.

Coop, per esempio, ha lanciato l’etichettatura informativa, che prevede l’inserimento (oltre alla sigla criptica della tipologia di materiale) della tipologia di materiale in linguaggio comune (cartoncino, ecc.), con l’indicazione del contenitore in cui gettare il rifiuto. Conad ha invece affidato a una società di consulenza esterna la verifica dei materiali e il controllo di qualità dei fornitori degli imballaggi.

Food technology: updates Cibus Tec 2009 (subdivided into Tecnoconserve, Milc and Multitecno) for the first time also hosted four general public areas, where 15 minute briefings were given on the most pressing issues of the food industry (refuse; research and technology; services for risk management in food technologies; food energy). In parallel,

an extensive program of conferences on a variety of topics (prebiotics and probiotics, positioning the tomato sector, food inspection with X-rays, competitiveness in the meat industry...).

• Durante il Milk Day sono state illustrate le nuove tecnologie produttive utilizzate

The FutureBrand agency, on the other hand, identified four fundamental trends in today’s packaging: simplicity (bright colors, legible characters); authenticity (warm colors, recovery of retro styles); reducing (reduction in materials used); storytelling (the label tells the product’s story).

As for broadscale distribution, on

the other hand, an ever greater attention is being dedicated to communication and the safety of packs.

Coop, for example, has launched the information label, which entails the insertion (in addition to the cryptic abbreviation of the material type) of the material type in plain language (cardboard, etc.), with an indication of in which container the refuse should be disposed of.

Conad, meanwhile, entrusted an outside consulting firm with materials testing and quality control of its packaging suppliers.

Concorso Trophelia

Trophelia contest

La seconda edizione del concorso Trophelia Italia - organizzato da Federalimentare nell’ambito del progetto europeo Truefood - ha riunito squadre di giovani ricercatori con l’intento di inventare prodotti alimentari innovativi. Studenti universitari provenienti da tutta Italia si sono cimentati nel realizzare un prodotto alimentare nuovo e originale.

La squadra vincitrice parteciperà nel 2010 al concorso europeo Trophelia Europe, dove i campioni italiani dovranno confrontarsi con gli studenti dei principali paesi europei.

1° - La squadra “G60” dell’Università degli Studi di Milano (Facoltà di Agraria) ha vinto con Vermouth Spray: una soluzione idroalcolica a base di vermouth, confezionato in una bomboletta di alluminio da 250 cc, che acquisisce consistenza schiumosa dopo l’erogazione e che può essere utilizzato refrigerato insieme a frutta, come aperitivo o come guarnizione di dessert o gelati.

2° - La squadra “Pro Bio Lifè” dell’Università degli Studi di Camerino (Interfacoltà di Scienze, Tecnologia e Farmacia) ha presentato il Ciauscolo Probiotico, salame spalmabile. L’aggiunta di ceppi batterici probiotici brevettati arricchisce il Ciauscolo IGP marchigiano con un plusvalore salutistico senza alterarne la tradizionalità.

3° - La squadra “Ovis Molis” dell’Università degli Studi di Parma (Facoltà di Agraria) ha inventato Yò tube, uno yogurt ad alta viscosità spalmabile.

The second edition of the Trophelia Italia contest - organized by Federalimentare as part of the European Truefood project - brought together teams of young researchers for the purpose of inventing innovative food products. University students from all parts of Italy competed to create a new and original food product. The winning team will participate in the 2010 Trophelia Europe competition, where the Italian champions will face off with students from other major European countries.

1st place - The “G60” team from the University of Milan (Faculty of Agriculture) won with Vermouth Spray: a vermouth-based hydroalcoholic solution, packed in a 250 cc aluminium spray can, which takes on a foamy consistency after it is dispensed and can be used refrigerated with fruit, as an aperitif or as a garnish for desserts or ice cream.

2nd place - The “Pro Bio Lifè” team from the University of Camerino (Inter-faculty program of Science, Technology and Pharmacy) presented Ciauscolo Probiotico, a spreadable salami. The addition of patented probiotic bacteria enriches this Protected Geographical Indication Ciauscolo salami from the Marche region with an added value in health properties without altering its traditional nature.

3rd place - The “Ovis Molis” team from the University of Parma (Faculty of Agriculture) invented Yò Tube, a high viscosity spreadable yogurt.

• In occasione del Tomato Day, oltre al punto sullo scenario economico e sull’andamento dei consumi dei prodotti a base di pomodoro, Amitom (Mediterranean International Association of the Processing Tomato) ha illustrato le caratteristiche nutrizionali del pomodoro industriale, che contiene licopene, un potente antiossidante che contribuisce a prevenire malattie cardio-vascolari e cancro. L’associazione ha inoltre annunciato che sta per ottenere da EFSA il via libera per poter comunicare

A window to the future - As the 2009 edition closes the next one is already being planned, scheduled for October 18th-21st, 2011, the year in which the event will become triennial. The decision to extend the event’s biennial status was determined by the opportunity to

make it coincide with Summilk, the World Dairy Summit that Fiere di Parma organizes for FIL-IDF (the International Milk and Dairy Federation) and with SPS/ICP/Drives Italia, an international fair of industrial automation technology hosted by Messe Frankfurt.

Already confirmed is the presence of Trace-ID and Log-ID, the two events created in collaboration with Editrice TeMi that are dedicated to systems for goods traceability and integrated logistics solutions.

Nuova vita alla plastica Aliplast SpA, da 27 anni nel campo della rigenerazione di materiale plastico, è in grado di riciclare 75.000 t di plastica all’anno. L’azienda di Ospedaletto di Istrana (TV) produce A-PET, un materiale estruso costituito da tre strati: quello interno è in polimero riciclato e i due esterni, in materiale vergine, fungono da barriera, rendendo il prodotto idoneo ad applicazioni nel settore alimentare. R-PET è costituito invece al 100% da materiale riciclato. Il sistema di pulitura impiegato assicura l’assenza di qualsiasi inquinante e una viscosità molto simile al prodotto vergine.

La nuova sfida di Aliplast è offrire un PET più evoluto, definito PET/PE. Concepito per impieghi nel food, garantisce una saldatura ottimale grazie al sottile strato di polietilene applicato sulla lastra di PET. Con o senza barriera EVOH, offre una buona stampabilità e una conservazione ottimale in atmosfera modificata.

Aliplast sta infine sperimentando anche il G-PET, un materiale i cui strati esterni, opportunamente trattati, rendono la lastra facilmente saldabile e il PET metallizzato, ideale per nel comparto dolciario.

Sigillare le vaschette con film Vacuum Pump SpA ha studiato una nuova applicazione per la confezionatrice di vaschette modello GV56. La macchina è in grado infatti di termosaldare un film sul bordo di vaschette take-away di PET, dotate di coperchio incernierato e, successivamente, di chiudere il coperchio a incastro in modo automatico.

La lavorazione inizia da un disimpilatore, che posiziona le vaschette con coperchio sul nastro della confezionatrice, poi trasportate fino alla stazione di riempimento. Dopo il dosaggio del prodotto, le vaschette avanzano sullo stampo di saldatura per la sigillatura del film e successiva fustellatura. In questa fase è possibile immettere atmosfera pro-

tettiva per prolungare la shelf-life del prodotto. Dopo essere passate nella stazione di chiusura per l’incastro automatico del coperchio, le vaschette vengono allineate su un nastro motorizzato con convogliatore per l’etichettatura. Questo tipo di packaging consente non solo di proteggere con un film termosaldato i prodotti in vaschetta ma anche di richiudere la confezione con il coperchio, nel caso in cui il prodotto non sia stato tutto consumato.

Aliplast SpA, which has been active for 27 years in the field of plastic regeneration, is able to recycle 75,000 t of plastic per year. The concern, which is based in Ospedaletto di Istrana (TV), also produces A-PET, an extruded material consisting in three layers: the internal one is recycled polymer and the two external virgin material layers function as a barrier, making the product suitable for applications in the food sector. R-PET, on the other hand, consists of 100% recycled material. The concern uses a washing system that ensures the absence of any pollutants and viscosity very similar to virgin product.

Aliplast’s latest challenge is that of offering a highly developed PET called PET/PE. Conceived for use in the food sector, it guarantees optimal sealing thanks to a thin layer of polyethylene applied to the PET sheet. With or without EVOH barrier, it offers good printability and excellent preservation in modified atmosphere. But that’s not all.

Aliplast is also experimenting with G-PET, a material whose external layers, when opportunely treated, make the sheet easily sealable and the PET metalized, suitable for the confectionary sector.

Sealing trays with film Vacuum Pump SpA has devised a new application for packaging model GV56 trays.

The machine can in fact heatseal a film to the edge of the PET take-away type trays fitted with hinged lid, and subsequently automatically close the snap-to lid.

The processing starts off from a destacker, that positions the trays with lid on the packaging belt, that are then transported to the filling station. After the dosing of the product, the trays advance to the seal mould for the film sealing and subsequent die-cutting. In this phase protective atmosphere can be inserted to prolong the shelf-life of the product. After passed through the closing station for the automatic shutting of the lid, that trays are lined up on a motorised belt with label conveyor.

This type of packaging not only enables protection of the products in the trays with heatseal film but also allows the pack to be reclosed using the lid should all the food have not been consumed.

Practical and ergonomic zipper

Zip pratico ed ergonomico Lanciato in Italia da T.S Srl, Corner Zip è un sistema di chiusura zip estremamente funzionale che, grazie a un design particolare, offre diversi vantaggi rispetto alle soluzioni tradizionali. In primis, apertura facilitata (grazie a delle piccole maniglie ergonomiche) e richiusura efficace. Inoltre, la zip ad angolo permette non solo di risparmiare sui materiali ma anche di dosare il prodotto da erogare.

Corner Zip può essere utilizzato per prodotti in polvere e granulari (cacao, caffè, dolciari, frutta secca, cereali, snack dolci e salati) e per alimenti come formaggio grattugiato, riso e pasta, ma trova anche impiego nell’ambito del settore chimico-farmaceutico e non food in genere. Attualmente sono disponibili formati standard, sia in materiali barrierati che in film accoppiati trasparenti, in diversi colori e formati. Il progetto industriale prevede l’utilizzo di una riempitrice per market test e di una macchina per l’applicazione dello zip (velocità fino 100 confezioni/min.).

Tutte le fasi del progetto sono curate da T.S di San Lazzaro di Savena (BO), responsabile dello sviluppo tecnologico e commerciale per il mercato europeo.

Launched in Italy by T.S Srl, Corner Zip is an extremely functional zipper whose design offers various advantages over traditional solutions.

First of all, easy opening (thanks to small ergonomic handles) and effective reclosure.

Also, the corner zipper enables not only saving in materials but also dosing the product to be dispensed. Corner Zip can be used for powder or granulated products (cocoa, coffee, confectionaries, dried fruit, cereals, sweet and savory snacks) and for food products such as grated cheese, rice and pasta. But it also finds use in the chemical/pharmaceutical sector and non-food generally. Standard formats are currently available, both in barrier materials and in transparent laminated films, in various colors and formats. The industrial project provides for the use of a filling machine for market test and a machine for the application of the zipper (speed up to 100 packagings/min.).

All phases of the project were conducted by T.S of San Lazzaro di Savena (BO), in charge of technological and commercial development for the European market.

Dopo più di 2 anni di ricerca, l’azienda di Rivalta Scrivia (AL) ha dunque sviluppato i Soco Jars, nuova generazione di vasi di PET che assicurano una shelf-life di 12, 24 o 36 mesi e resistono allo stress termico della fase di riempimento a caldo.

Grazie alla collaborazione con M&G, Socoplas può progettare contenitori in PET barrierato in funzione delle esigenze delle linee di riempimento esistenti, velocizzando e migliorando al contempo le prestazioni prodotto-packaging.

Packaging and inspection - Italvision (Scandiano, RE) has proposed Endline, a modular packaging solution for heat-sealed containers for food (Formpack) that can be paired with the PackVision inspection system, recommended for fresh pasta and cold cuts.

Thanks to the use of high speed color cameras and an industrial PC on Quadcore 64 bit platform, PackVision enables continuous inspection directly on the production lines. The user can determine, with simple operations, the minimum dimensions and maximum defect, the inspection area and the parameters for appearance control.

The system’s advantages include remote control, which enables managing multiple lines from a single station.

Barrier PET jars - Socoplas SpA has developed, in exclusive collaboration with the M&G group,

Dai modelli base, nelle versioni acciaio inox/alluminio e completamente in acciaio inox, per una capacità di dosaggio complessiva da 0,5 a 5.000 cc, affiancate da accessori intercambiabili per offrire

Preserva le proprietà organolettiche Astepo e Simaco - specializzate nella produzione di scambiatori termici e di riempitrici bag-in-box, asettiche e non, per prodotti alimentari semilavorati - si sono presentate al CibusTec con alcune novità. Tra queste segnaliamo lo scambiatore di calore modulare D.S.R. (a Superficie Raschiata Doppia) di Astepo, che consente di portare il prodotto alla temperatura desiderata in un tempo estremamente breve. Grazie al passaggio del fluido riscaldante (vapore) o raffreddante (acqua) in due intercapedini coassiali al passaggio del prodotto, le proprietà organolettiche non vengono alterate.

Thanks to its collaboration with M&G, Socoplas is able to design barrier PET containers in accordance with the requirements of existing filling lines, speeding and at the same time improving product packaging performance.

Dosage and delicate food products Karr Italiana Srl (design and manufacture of volumetric dosing and filling machines) at CibusTec presented its entire range of products dedicated to the food sector. Starting with its basic models, in stainless steel/aluminium and completely stainless steel, for

La serie FF - che comprende sei modelli in funzione delle varie esigenze - può trattare prodotti appiccicosi e difficili da maneggiare (pollame, carne, pesce, frutta, insalate, verdure, riso, pasta e piatti pronti). Tutte le tramogge sono infatti munite di porte scorrevoli, che smuovono facilmente eventuali residui di prodotto, e sono realizzate in resina, con pareti interne ondulate.

Weighers for fresh products - Ishida Europe Ltd. di Birmingham (UK) has proposed a series of FF weighers for fresh products. Thanks to the principle of weighing by combination, these machines ensure that every packaging is filled with the right amount, reaching a speed of 70 packagings/min.

The FF series - which includes six models according to the various requirements - can treat sticky and difficult to handle products (poultry, meat, fish, fruit, salads, vegetables, rice, pasta and ready meals). Each hopper is indeed equipped with sliding doors, which easily remove any product residues and are made out of resin, with corrugated inner walls.

A seconda delle caratteristiche della macchina è infatti possibile eseguire un imballaggio primario, secondario e addirittura terziario. Può quindi lavorare sia contenitori singoli come bottiglie di vetro e recipienti in PET sia lattine in multipack e/o multipack in casse di plastica, cartoni pieghevoli o cartoni wrap-around.

I vari moduli (base, formatura dei cartoni e di alimentazione) vengono scelti e combinati l’uno con l’altro in funzione del tipo di lavorazione da svolgere.

In complesso, la Varioline è dimensionata per una resa oraria di 40.000 contenitori e/o 9.000 imballaggi primari (multipack 3x 2).

Ma Varioline, come suggerisce anche il suo nome, significa anche flessibilità, grazie a nuovi utensili; un ampliamento successivo della macchina, tra l’altro, non ha alcuna ripercussione sui formati esistenti.

In base al layout, rispetto a una linea d’imballaggio tradizionale, si può conseguire un risparmio di spazio compreso tra i 60 e i 100 m2.

Presented by Krones AG of Neutraubling (D), the packaging line Varioline is extremely flexible and, on the basis of the combination and the number of modules used, is capable of performing various work phases. According to the characteristics of the machine one can in fact carry out primary, secondary and even transport packaging. It can hence process both single containers such as glass bottles, PET recipients as well as multipacks of tins and/or multipacks in plastic crates, folding or wrap-around cartons.

The various modules (base, carton former and feeder) are chosen and combined with each other depending on the type of process to be carried out.

Overall Varioline is scaled for an hourly output of 40,000 containers and/or 9,000 primary packaging (3x2 multipacks).

But Varioline, as also suggested by its name, also means flexibility for the future, thanks to the new tools; a future extension of the machine what is more has no repercussions on existing formats.

What’s new - Of the proposals shown at Senago, CO.MA.DI.S. wished to focus attention on the complete line composed by the new CD linear tube-filling machine connected via robotised system to the horizontal continuous motion cartoning machine FLEXA CSD; to complete it, the new MS250A bundling machine and T450 heatshrink tunnel: a system conceived to respond to the requirements for high quality profile of the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.

• CD Linear interprets the theme of the linear tube-filling machine with in line execution with the qualities and prerogatives that have made it famous worldwide: accessibility, simplicity in changeover sequences, rapid disassembly of the parts in contact with the product and intuitive and effective

Having reached its 40th year of activity, CO.MA.DI.S can boast a wide range of tube-filling machines for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, chemical and food sectors, areas for which it offers both complete lines (including cartoning machines and end of line solutions) and stand alone machines.

As Sandro Spinello reminded us (the concern’s AD, entry into the Ima group in 2001), the concern produces and exports more than 3,000 tube-filling machines worldwide, along with - of course the ample competencies that have enabled the concern to develop a series of state-of-the-art machines, complete in type and speed. At the foundation of its competitiveness, recognized by the market, lie the

During the course of the open house, representatives from more than seventy participating concerns not only had an opportunity to experience firsthand and discuss with experts and technicians the developments in tube packaging: beyond the technological advances, CO.MA.DI.S indeed managed to show the added value of an open dialogue, fundamental to any successful business relationship.

Scandolara, a leader in the production of deformable tubes, was

• Visual control at any time, control of missing products thanks to an empty system, empty product at end of lot and minimum load not required: these are the characteristics of the compact and servo-assisted bundling machine MS250A, designed for the pharmaceutical market and which completes the line. The cantilevered structure and separation between command units and production enable high accessibility, in addition to facilitating maintenance and cleaning operations. With very fast changeover, it is ergonomic and reaches a production speed of 60 bundles/min. Linear tubefiling machines Designed by Nima Erre.TI Packaging Srl, the MTL tubefilling machine is accessible from all sides and can thus be easily controlled by the operator.

The MTL tube filling/closing machine (1), installable in sterile chambers, features: production of 6000 to 30,000 pieces/h, tube diameters of 10-60 mm and 50-250 mm high, innovatory tube feed system, in-line tube transfer, easy intervention, adjustment and electronic format change, change from aluminium to polythene tubes without replacing head.

The Paderno Dugnano (MI) based concern has also created the “clean system”, devised to eliminate powder from pills (2), and the “Rally” labeling head, with monolithic and compact structure, hence easily to insert on packaging machines or in line.

Intelligent and safer A pilot-study conducted in Kuopio, Finland, with outpatients has demonstrated that effective compliance monitoring can be achieved by using Stora Enso Pharma DDSi intelligent packaging solutions. During the four weeks of the study, the patients (who received opioid substitution treatment) visited the clinic at weekly intervals and received their medication for six days in a Pharma DDSi package. The patients’ compliance with their regimens was monitored using the package, which recorded the time of removal of the tablets from the package and stored information on the patient’s subjective symptoms each day. The data was monitored at the clinic during the weekly visits. The study among the patients at different stages of treatment showed a reduction in treatment costs of nearly 40%. Indeed, these patients would otherwise had to have scheduled daily visits to the hospital for administration of the drugs.

The Pharma DDSi package includes a locking mechanism and its size and inner design can be modified for various blisters or other inserts. This solution was found to be more secure than traditional sachets, since the blisters guarantee greater protection of the contents.

Note: Stora Enso has signed a license agreement with Enestia Belgium NV/SA (part of Irish company United Drug plc) regarding the contract packaging of pharmaceutical products in Pharma DDS cartons. These license agreements ensure the availability of the Pharma DDS packaging solution across Europe and North America. Stora Enso also has accredited printers to produce the printed and converted blanks of the Pharma DDS carton.

Turnkey solutions - IPS (International Packaging Systems) has worked for many years as a supplier of turnkey packaging solutions, actively collaborating with important pharmaceutical companies. The German concern, based in Crailsheim whose parent company is Gerhard Schubert GmbH, a well-known packaging machines builder - is able to offer consulting services that cover the entire packaging and automation process: from product assembly to primary packaging up through to the downstream logistics phases.

Le riempitrici/chiuditrici di tubetti MTL (1), installabili in camera sterile, sono caratterizzate da: produzione da 6.000 a 30.000 pezzi/h, diametro tubetti 1060 mm e altezza 50-250 mm, sistema di alimentazione tubetti innovativo, tra1 slazione dei tubetti in linea, estrema facilità di intervento, regolazioni e cambio formato elettronico, passaggio da tubetto in alluminio a quello di politene senza sostituzione di testata.

Intelligente e più sicuro Uno studio pilota condotto a Kuopio, Finlandia, su pazienti non ospedalizzati ha dimostrato che, ricorrendo all’impiego della soluzione di packaging intelligente Pharma DDSi proposta da Stora Enso Carton Board, è possibile monitorare l’impiego dei farmaci assunti. Durante le quattro settimane in cui è stato condotto lo studio, i pazienti (in cura con un trattamento sostitutivo degli oppiacei) ogni settimana si recavano in clinica e ricevevano i farmaci nella confezione Pharma DDSi per i sei giorni successivi. Il packaging, in questo caso, è servito a controllare il rispetto di quanto prescritto e a registrare l’ora di assunzione del farmaco, con la memorizzazione delle informazioni sui sintomi giornalieri di ogni soggetto. I dati venivano poi monitorati e discussi in clinica. Secondo lo studio, condotto su pazienti con diversi livelli di trattamento, i costi della terapia sono stati così ridotti del 40% (quegli stessi pazienti, tradizionalmente, avrebbero infatti dovuto programmare visite quotidiane in ospedale per la somministrazione dei farmaci).

Formato e design della parte interna di Pharma DDSi, che prevede un efficace meccanismo di chiusura, possono essere modificati per includere vari tipi di blister o altri inserti. La soluzione è stata ritenuta più sicura e in grado di offrire una migliore protezione del contenuto rispetto alle tradizionali bustine.

Nota. Stora Enso ha siglato un accordo di licenza con Enestia Belgium NV/SA (parte dell’irlandese United Drug plc) relativo al confezionamento conto terzi di prodotti farmaceutici con cartoncino Pharma DDS, il che ne assicura la disponibilità in Europa e Nord America. Stora Enso ha anche accreditato alcuni stampatori per produrre i fustellati stampati impiegando i Pharma DDS.

Airlessystems (gruppo Aptar) si adegua potenziando la gamma Eden di sistemi airless a pistone - oggi anche da 50 ml, con diametro 37 - e certificandone la riciclabilità con l’autorevole attestato Cotrep. Eden si preme senza sforzi, eroga dosi da 1 ml, è adatto alle formule viscose della cosmetica.

In mostra a Parigi anche il piccolo Airless Albion Minis da viaggio (3 formati da 5 a 15 ml) per i prodotti più densi e di alta gamma, e le nuove tecniche di decorazione.

At the last Creative eco-compatibility featured as one of the main, most visible veins of inspiration for the beauty industry. Arjowiggins Security has developed STES (synthetic tamper evident substrate), a plastic tamper evident support featuring great printability and easy converting.

Being indestructible, it can be used for pressure sensitive security labels. Any attempt to remove the same causes the delamination of the support making the repositioning or reuse of the label impossible. The authenticity of the packaging and its contents are safeguarded by UV viewable security elements.

HCP Packaging continua a investire sull’innovazione e presenta molte novità. Disponibile in versione semiautomatica (1.500 pezzi/h) o automatica (2.200 pezzi/h, con orientamento automatico dei tubetti), è caratterizzata da sistema di chiusura a pinza calda o aria calda e da caricamemto manuale dei tubetti (optional da magazzino). Il riempimento avviene, anch’esso automaticamente, tramite dosatore meccanico (dosaggio da 3 a 250 ml).

Axomatic (Settimo Milanese, MI) presented its new series of Optima 780 tubefilling machines, capable of filling and closing metal, polythene and laminated tubes. Available in semiautomatic (1,500 pieces/h) or automatic version (2,200 pieces/h, with automatic orientation of tubes), this series features hot pincer or hot air closure systems and manual loading of tubes (store magazine optional). The filling is automatic with mechanical doser (dosing from 3 to 250 ml).

M&H Plastics (represented in Italy by Steba) has added the 250 ml bottle “Character” with its original animal shapes, to its range of standard flacons. Produced in HDPE, it has an ergonomic grip and a 23 mm flip top.

Valois Pharma ha sviluppato un nuovo dispositivo per spray nasale dotato di attuatore laterale. Materials & Machinery Patented manual packaging The machines FC and RP represent the latest patented proposals from MinipackTorre for manual dome-shaped packaging solutions. Compact, easy to use and reliable, they are the result of years of research and development by the concern based in Dalmine (BG).

• The FC series is equipped with the new patented electronic system that enables blocking the shrink fan just before the dome opens, thus ensuring reduced hot air dispersion and resulting energy savings (circa 20%). Also, the sealing bars cooling system, standard on FC models, enables treating any film thickness or type. There are several standard programs, all of which can be easily set by the operator: fan delay, heat lung temperature, shrink and sealing time, piece counter.

• The RP series, which represents the basic line, combines a minimalist shape with the exclusive systems of the FC range (trim rewinding, sealing bar cooling, electronic fan block and other advantages that come standard in the FC series, in this series are optional).

Starch for corrugated cardboard Syral - after buying up five works from Tate&Lyle in 2007, one of which in Italy at Saluzzo (Sedamyl SpA) - has become an important supplier of starch for industrial applications. The company uses maize and grain for producing a vast range of products with a high added value for the corrugated cardboard and paper industry. For some time now its has been cooperating with corrugated cardboard producers and cardboard corrugating machine constructors in order to develop solutions capable of effectively solving gluing problems.

Native starches (usable on standard output) and those modified are supplied by Syral in order to guarantee optimum performance on all cardboard corrugating machines.

The modified starches Mylbond 110 and Mylbond 210 - produced with the Steinhall system - ensure stability of viscosity, short structure and strong adhesion. This ensures high speed and low humidity penetration (the board stays stretched and less waste is created).

Syral has also launched Mylbond 112 and Mylbond 212, a new generation of modified starches, ideal for high basis weight boards used aboveall in the fruit&veg sector, that enable to considerably reduce starch consumption, without using special products or additives.

Blistering machines - AL.MA. (Cadorago, CO) builds machines able to produce blister packs of even the most complex shapes, using materials suitable for thermoforming such as PVC, PET, PP and various supports for sealing (plastic films, paper or cardboard). Easy to use and equipped with brushless motor drive and PLC with touchscreen operator panel, AL.MA. blistering machines are characterized by quick changeover and an exclusive positive forming system (with optional undercut for vertical packaging formats). The machines can blisterpack various product types, including toothbrushes, dental floss, articles for makeup, bricolage and “do-it-yourself”.

Automation & Controls Lo SpaceFeeder di Rontech è un sistema computerizzato di alimentazione e posizionamento dei prodotti su fila singola ed equidistanti tra loro.

La soluzione è stata scelta dal produttore di sistemi di chiusura per porte e finestre Hoppe, che ne ha apprezzato precisione e affidabilità nella preparazione dei sacchetti di viti. L’impianto dotato di 23 servoassi e un robot a 4 assi viene controllato da un unico controllore PacDrive di ELAU.

ALIMENTARE... LA PRECISIONE on nove stabilimenti sparsi in Europa e negli USA, Hoppe Holding AG è leader europeo di mercato nello sviluppo, produzione e distribuzione di sistemi di chiusura per porte e finestre.

Uno dei suoi primi impianti di produzione - quello di Bromskirchen - è specializzato nella produzione di maniglie per finestre in alluminio, che vengono commercializzate con un set di viti realizzate nello specifico per ogni singolo prodotto. In una produzione completamente automatizzata questo significa che i set di fissaggio confezionati in sacchetti tubolari devono essere trasportati insieme alle maniglie che scorrono in continuo su un nastro, per poi passare a un’ulteriore fase di confezionamento.

Secondo Gerd Becker, responsabile di produzione e dell’ottimizzazione aziendale alla Hoppe di Bromskirchen, si tratta di un compito particolarmente impegnativo, tanto che «tutte le soluzioni adottate nel tempo per l’alimentazione dei sacchetti di viti si sono dimostrate piuttosto limitate».

Separati ed equidistanti, fino alla consegna - La recente installazione dello SpaceFeeder di Rontech ha, per così dire, “fatto centro”: il sistema di alimentazione separa prodotti di ogni tipo non impilabili, immessi alla rinfusa, li dispone e li consegna al processo successivo, separati in modo equidistante, fase per fase. In teoria, SpaceFeeder è in grado di preparare anche 300 prodotti/min fino al punto di consegna.

I prodotti da separare possono essere introdotti nei contenitori della macchina come materiale alla rinfusa. Un nastro trasportatore, azionato da un motore asincrono controllato da un convertitore di frequenza, trasporta i prodotti su un sistema di rulli servoazionato. Quest’ultimo è diviso in segmenti singoli e può comprendere, in base all’applicazione, fino a 60 segmenti.

It was chosen by the producer of closure systems for doors and windows Hoppe, that appreciated its accuracy and reliability in preparing the bags of screws. One of its main production plants - that

of Bromskirchen - is specialised in the production of handles for windows in aluminium, that are traded with a set of screws made specifically for each single product. In the field of totally automated production this means that the fastening sets packed in tubular

bags have to be transported along with the handles that run continuously along a belt, to then proceed to the final packaging phase. According to Gerd Becker, head of production and company optimisation of the Hoppe Bromskirchen works, this is a particularly hard task, in that «the solutions adopted in time for feeding the bags of screws have proven to be fairly limited».

Separate and with equal spacing, right up to delivery - The recent installation of the Rontech SpaceFeeder has, as one might say, scored a “bullseye”: The feed system separates non stackable products of

all kinds, fed in bulk, it sets them out and delivers them to the subsequent process, separated at an equal distance phase by phase. In theory SpaceFeeder is capable of preparing even up to 300 products/min right up to the delivery point.

The products to be separated can be introduced into the machine containers in bulk. A conveyor belt, driven by an asynchronous motor controlled by a frequency converter, transports the products on a servodriven roller system. The latter is divided up into single segments and, depending on the application, can comprise up to 60 segments.

CON PACDRIVE... ... no ai servoazionamenti nell’armadio elettrico Il concetto di automazione dello SpaceFeeder si basa interamente sulla tecnologia PacDrive di ELAU. Un controllore PacDrive-Logic/Motion centralizzato controlla tutti i servoazionamenti, il convertitore di frequenza del nastro trasportatore e tutte le altre funzioni della macchina.

Tutti i segmenti a rulli vengono azionati da servomoduli iSH con elettronica integrata: collegati tramite cavi ibridi a innesto e scatole di derivazione al controllore PacDrive e all’alimentazione elettrica centralizzata, i servoazionamenti non occupano più lo spazio normalmente occupato nell’armadio elettrico.

Le barriere luminose al termine di ogni segmento a rulli sono collegate ai morsetti I/O del controllore. Il concetto di software dello SpaceFeeder (conforme alla norma IEC 61131-3) si basa su un modello PacDrive universale, in questo caso appositamente modificato da Rontech.

Per realizzare l’impianto della HOPPE lo SpaceFeeder è stato abbinato a un robot P4 PacDrive. Supportato da un sistema di telecamere, il robot Delta 3 a quattro assi preleva singoli sacchetti di viti da un “nastro pick” a valle del sistema a rulli, e li posiziona accanto alle maniglie per finestre sul “nastro place” che scorre parallelo al primo. In questo modo si completano 60 set al minuto, che vengono poi trasportati dal nastro place a un’insacchettatrice orizzontale. ... no al sistema di controllo supplementare per i robot Il nastro pick è azionato da un servomodulo iSH, mentre i quattro assi del robot P4 sono azionati da un servomodulo ciascuno.

Tanto il nastro pick quanto il robot sono

controllati dal controllore PacDrive dello SpaceFeeder, mentre l’alimentazione di tensione è affidata a un alimentare centrale supplementare del tipo iSH. Per quanto riguarda il software, il P4 è integrato tramite moduli libreria PacDrive nella struttura di programma conforme allo standard IEC 61131-3 della macchina, così come la soluzione Vision del robot.

L’intera soluzione di alimentazione su file singole è gestita mediante pulsanti di segnalazione acustica e visiva e un touchpanel Magelis di Schneider Electric. I pannelli Magelis sono inseriti nel sistema PacDrive dal punto di vista software; un driver ARTI consente, durante la creazione dell’applicazione HMI, di accedere alle variabili del controllore, senza dover passare attraverso il server OPC. In pratica, con la semplice pressione di un tasto e senza dover trasformare parti specifiche del prodotto, il pannello consente di effettuare il passaggio tra i dodici prodotti che vengono trasportati nell’impianto, di cui il responsabile di produzione Hoppe, Gert Becker, è assolutamente soddisfatto.

On exiting from each segment, a light barrier indicates the current position of the product to the control, that calculates the distance from the preceding product and adjusts the speed of the subsequent segment. Thus a flow of equally spaced products is attained at the roller system outfeed.

WITH PACDRIVE... ... no servodrives in the control box The automation concept of the SpaceFeeder is entirely based on ELAU PacDrive technology. A PacDrive-Logic/Motion centralised controller controls all the servodrives,

the conveyor belt frequency converter and all other machine functions.

All the roller segments are driven by ISH servomodules with integrated electronics: connected via hybrid plug-in cables and junction boxes to the PacDrive contoller and to the centralised electrical power supply, the servodrives no longer take up the space normally taken up in the control box.

The light barriers at the end of each roller segment are connected to the controller I/O clamps. The SpaceFeeder software concept (conforming to standard IEC 611313) is based on a universal PacDrive model, in this case especially

modified by Rontech.

In order to achieve the Hoppe system the SpaceFedder was linked to a PX PacDrive robot. Supported by a camera system, the quadriaxial Delta 3 robot picks up single bags of screws from a “pick belt” downline from the roller system, and places them alongside the window handles on the “place belt” that runs parallel to the former. In this way 60 sets can be completed a minute, that are then transported by the place belt to a horizontal bagging machine.

Both the pick belt and the robot are controlled by the SpaceFeeder PacDrive controller, while the power supply is via a supplementary iSH type central unit. As regarding the software, the P4 is integrated via PacDrive library modules in the program structure conforming to machine standard IEC 61131-3, the same as the robot Vision system.

The entire single lane feed solution is run via acoustic and visual signal switches and a Schneider Electric Magelis touchpanel. The Magelis panels are inserted in the PacDrive

La stabilità del sistema è l’aspetto che lo ha impressionato in maniera più che positiva: «Sin dal montaggio, l’impianto ha sempre funzionato senza problemi e la manutenzione del robot è talmente semplice che smontare i bracci è un gioco da ragazzi. Finora SpaceFeeder è stata l’unica soluzione in grado di soddisfare appieno le nostre esigenze e l’impianto installato è davvero un’ottima referenza per Rontech. Quindi, non solo presumo che ne verranno acquistati altri ma, in base a questa esperienza positiva, immaginiamo di approvare altri progetti basati sulla tecnologia di automazione PacDrive attualmente in nostro possesso».

Automation & Controls Brushless AC servomotor Control Techniques has created Unimotor FM, a new brushless motor that, in addition to guaranteeing higher performance, more PCD options and shorter length, offers perfect flange compatibility with standard Unimotors. It also features greater mechanical control of the load applied to it and is available in different sizes with multiple shaft diameters and maintenance free jumbo bearings, thus ensuring greater sturdiness in the case of both axial and radial loads.

The Unimotor FM series - available in 7 flange sizes, with torques ranging from 0.7 up to 136 Nm in addition to the version with Control Techniques’ SLM system (Speed Loop on Motor), expands the selection of transducers that can be applied to it, enabling the use of incremental, absolute, absolute sine/cosine, simple sine/cosine, single or multirotation encoders and resolvers of the main builders on the market.The fact that it can be assembled with a reduced number of “stand alone” components makes the motor simple to build and test but first and foremost reliable.

Ultrasonic sensors Baumer has launched UNCK 09, a new series of ultrasonic sensors, which - thanks to a special nozzle - are suitable for measuring or detecting the presence of very small objects in openings with small diameters (minimum <3 mm). A rectangular housing with a width of only 9 mm enables their use in limited spaces and cascading. Response times and resolutions are much quicker than traditional ultrasonic sensors (<7ms and 0.1mm direct proximity or retroreflex). But what makes the 09 series even more flexible is the wide range of electrical outputs (push-pull, analog, IO-Link and RS232 serial). Another innovation is vast configurability (2-150 mm work range, sensitive sonic cone, resolution, thermal compensation, acquisition speed). Originally developed for applications in the pharmaceuticals, food and lab automation sectors, UNCK 09 can be used to control transparent objects and level in bottles generally.

For liquids and powders - With FlexLevel 4401, the Assago (MI) based company has introduced a new hygienic level switch, also available in an ATEX version, suitable for applications in the food & beverage sector. It detects liquids, viscous fluids and even dry products. For particularly troublesome substances such as adhesives, the teach-in function enables manual adjustment of the setpoint to be measured.

Flexlevel can be easily configured with a PC using FlexProgrammer 9701 and, in the standard version, can operate at processing temperatures between 40 and +85 °C, and in CIP and SIP processes at up to 140 °C (for a maximum of 60 minutes).

Four in one Mitsubishi Electric (Italian branch at Agrate Brianza, MB) has integrated four high performance controllers in a single platform. Designed specifically for the demands of industrial automation, iQ platform - thanks to a powerful microprocessor technology - enables the installation of four different types of controllers (PLC, motion control, CNC and robot controllers) in a single platform, guaranteeing a rapid and reliable communication between the single production levels. IQ Platform, that also supports Melsec System Q platform standard technology, enables the configuration of tailored automation solutions for virtually any application, starting off from standalone systems up to complete production lines.

This direct integration of components also ensures a high productivity.

Control Techniques ha realizzato Unimotor FM, un nuovo motore brushless che, oltre a garantire maggiori prestazioni, più opzioni di PCD e lunghezza ridotta, offre la perfetta compatibilità di flangia con Unimotor standard. Assicura inoltre una maggiore capacità di controllo meccanico del carico ad esso applicato, disponibile nelle diverse taglie con più diametri d’albero e cuscinetti maggiorati senza manutenzione, a tutto vantaggio di una maggiore robustezza in presenza di carichi assiali o radiali. La serie Unimotor FM - disponibile in 7 taglie di flangia, con coppie da 0,7 fino a 136 Nm - oltre alla versione con sistema SLM (Speed Loop on Motor) di Control Techniques amplia la scelta dei trasduttori ad esso applicabili permettendo l’utilizzo di encoder incrementali, assoluti, seno/coseno assoluti, seno/coseno semplici, singolo giro o multi giro e resolver dei principali costruttori mondiali.

Sensori ad ultrasuoni Baumer ha lanciato UNCK 09, una nuova serie di sensori ad ultrasuoni che - grazie a uno speciale beccuccio - sono ideali per misurare o rilevare la presenza di oggetti molto piccoli all’interno di aperture ultra ridotte (diametro minimo <3 mm). Ma a rendere ancora più flessibile la serie 09 è l’ampia gamma di uscite elettriche (push-pull, analogica, seriale RS232 e IO-Link). Automation & Controls Objective: safety - Techno GR, an Omron group company, proposes another tool to guarantee that installations meet safety regulations and protect workers’ health. That tool is Safety Service, a consulting service that covers all aspects of health and safety relating to industrial machinery. Targeting machine builders, system integrators, control panel operators, installers and end users, the service provides for, as a first step in analysis, an evaluation of risks and the corresponding appropriateness of project choices and the safety levels to be adopted in relation to command and control systems concerned with safety (EN ISO 13849-1/2007). It also include the definition and supply of products necessary to safety implementation, electric testing, installation supervision and testing of those products, EC marking and the formation and periodical checking of the functions of the safety devices installed, as well as regulation updates and new developments in directives.

Scalable process automation - PlantPAX is Rockwell Automation’s new process automation system, resulting from the integration of Logix and Factory talk View systems with technologies made available by the acquisitions of ICS Triplex, Pavilion and Incuity and strategic partnerships with Endress+Hauser, OSISoft and Cisco. PlantPAX represents a scalable process automation solution, both for applications of small dimensions and large installations, which offers, in addition to traditional control of the installation, analysis and integration with management systems.

Rockwell has also offered a first example of Endress+Hauser instruments integrated into PlantPAX using Ethernet/IP as a field bus.

Rivolto ai costruttori di macchine, ai system integrator, ai quadristi, agli installatori e agli utilizzatori finali, il servizio prevede, come primo step di analisi, la valutazione dei rischi e la relativa congruità delle scelte progettuali e dei livelli

di sicurezza da adottare in relazione ai sistemi di comando e controllo relativi alla sicurezza (EN ISO 13849-1/2007).

Safety Service include anche la definizione e la fornitura dei prodotti necessari per la messa in sicurezza, le verifiche elettriche, la supervisione all’installazione dei prodotti e loro collaudo, la marcatura CE, la formazione e il controllo periodico della funzionalità dei dispositivi di sicurezza installati. A questo si aggiungono le novità sulle direttive e gli aggiornamenti normativi.

AUTOMAZIONE DI PROCESSO SCALABILE - PlantPAx è il nuovo sistema di automazione di processo di Rockwell Automation, frutto dell’integrazione dei sistemi Logix e Factory talk View con le tecnologie derivanti dalle acquisizioni di ICS Triplex, Pavilion e Incuity e delle partnership strategiche con Endress+Hauser, OSISoft e Cisco. PlantPAx rappresenta una soluzione di automazione di processo scalabile, sia per applicazioni di dimensioni ridotte sia per impianti di grandi dimensioni, che offre oltre al tradizionale controllo dell’impianto la capacità di analisi e di integrazione con i sistemi gestionali.

Rockwell offre un primo esempio di integrazione di strumenti Endress+Hauser in PlantPAx utilizzando Ethernet/IP come bus di campo.

Electric actuators and modular transport Servotecnica (Nova Milanese, MB) presented two new proposals for the food packaging sector.

• The represented company Copley, integrating the family of tubular electric actuators, provides a “Hygienic” version. The new actuator, with stainless steel frame and a smooth shape that prevents the accumulation of bacteria and grime, is particularly suitable for operating in the aggressive environments typical of the food sector.

• Also proposed was the MagneMover™Lite system, based on QuickStick LSM (Linear Synchronous Motor) technology. Thanks to a wide range of components for modular tracks, it is possible to obtain various conveyor solutions for loads of 2 kg or less. In addition, the combination of “prefabricated” blocks enables an almost infinite number of setups. Suitable for application in environments where cleanliness and washability (IP65) are indispensable, the system by the represented company MagneMotion also responds to the requirement of “traceability”: the trolleys are indeed monitored individually and their position can be determined at any moment with millimetric precision.

Solutions for the food sector Lenze Gerit has devised a range of products specifically for the food sector, presenting for the first time - in occasion of Cibus Tec - the new catalogue “Solutions for the agrofood sector”, where the solutions suited for the different usage environments: humidity >85%; with temperatures within the range -12...+40 °C; frozen from 30°...+10 °C and products in stainless steel for aseptic environments.

• The SMV vectoral inverter (photo), with power up to 7,5 kW and IP65 grade protection, does not require a containment control panel, and hence ready for installation in the field.

• Thanks to their smooth body, the absence of retention area and IP66 grade protection, the stainless steel motors with 0,18..7,5 kW power are ideal for the food sector.

• The PC series EL100 panels, available in IP65 version and in sizes 5,7” ..12,1”, are ideal for operating in aggressive environments and with high humidity rates.

Attuatori elettrici e trasporto modulare Due nuove proposte di Servotecnica (Nova Milanese, MB) trovano applicazione nell’ambito del confezionamento alimentare.

• A integrazione della famiglia di attuatori elettrici tubolaria, la rappresentata Copley è in grado di offrire infatti la versione “Hygienic”. Il nuovo attuatore, con carcassa in acciaio inox e forma “liscia” che ne impedisce l’insediamento di batteri o sporcizia, è particolarmente adatto ad operare in ambienti aggressivi, tipici del settore alimentare.

• Proposto anche il sistema MagneMover™Lite, basato sulla tecnologia di controllo QuickStick LSM (Motore Lineare Sincrono). Soluzioni per il settore alimentare Lenze Gerit ha studiato una gamma di prodotti specifici per il settore alimentare, presentando per la prima volta - in occasione di Cibus Tec - il nuovo catalogo “Soluzioni per il settore Agroalimentare”, in cui sono evidenziate le soluzioni idonee ai differenti ambienti di esercizio: con umidità >85%; con temperature comprese nel range -12/+40 °C; “frozen” da -30... +10 °C e prodotti in acciaio inossidabile specifici per l’ambiente asettico.

• L’inverter vettoriale SMV (nella foto), con potenza fino a 7,5 kW e protezione IP65, non ha bisogno di un quadro elettrico di contenimento, è quindi pronto all’installazione in campo.

• Grazie alla loro carcassa liscia, all’assenza di zone di ritenzione e al grado di protezione IP66, i motori in acciaio inox con potenze 0,18..7,5 kW sono ideali per il settore alimentare.

TERMOFORMARE, RIEMPIRE E SALDARE i recente Evifill (San Prospero S/S, MO) ha progettato e realizzato BE1, una termoformatrice-riempitrice-saldatrice automatica a moto alternato e a film orizzontale, studiata per produrre confezioni monodose a retro piattodestinate a contenere prodotti liquidi, densi e semidensi. L’esperienza pluriennale nel campo del packaging, in particolare dei liquidi, ne ha guidato lo sviluppo e il successivo brevetto.

Tutte le stazioni di processo sono posizionate nella parte anteriore con disposizione a balcone; i movimenti delle stazioni sono invece nella parte inferiore rispetto al piano del film termoformato e del dosaggio. Le motorizzazioni principali, insieme al quadro elettrico, stanno nella parte posteriore della macchina, il che ne agevola la pulizia e rende possibile impiegare flussi d’aria laminari per mantenere pulite tutte le zone a contatto con il prodotto.

A Siemens “brain” for the BE1, an automatic and modular machine entirely designed and patented by Evifill: the use of brushless motors has simplified a complex system, with the onus on economising and efficiency, providing a new quality standard on the verge of becoming a benchmark in the industrial automation sector.

Heatforming, filling and sealing Recently Evifill (San Prospero S/S, MO) designed and created BE1, an automatic, alternate motion, horizontal film heatforming-fillingsealing machine, devised for producing flat backed monodose packs for containing liquid, dense or

semidense products. Their many years of experience in the packaging field, in particular with liquids, have guided them in the development and the subsequent patenting of the new machine.

“Heart” of the Evifill patent is a brushless Siemens 1FN3 linear motor, to which the dosing system, the film conveying and the sealing are connected up to.

And apart form the central part, that

is the filling station true and proper, the machine is made in interchangeable modules: in particular the shearing zone can be easily replaced with other modules (folding, further seal units, etc.). It can reach 50 cycles/min, with a material width of 100 to 170 mm and a pitch length of a maximum of 210 mm.

The format can be “double lane”, hence doubling production.

The machine works at its best packaging liquids, creams and glues, but this does not exclude the possibility of working other non liquids, food and pharmaceutical products. The essential condition is the forming of a single part of the

sia in fatto di regolazioni e manutenzione, grazie all’estrema “pulizia” della parte frontale la macchina assicura un accesso agevole per il cambio formato: le prove effettuate confermano che l’operazione può essere svolta da una persona in meno di un’ora.

PROGETTARE “EASY” In risposta a sollecitazioni di mercato, Evifill ha dunque lavorato a eliminare nelle confezioni il collo di dosaggio, ossia la strozzatura delle fiale tipica delle macchine termoformatrici verticali. Per risolvere questo problema, l’unica soluzione era quella di disporre di una termoformatrice orizzontale, ma quelle esistenti sul mercato mostravano alcuni limiti strutturali in fatto di riempimento liquidi: quelle a moto continuo, le cadenze produttive troppo basse e i costi molto elevati per i diversi formati; quelle a moto alternato, a parità di produzione, non garantivano un livello di riempi-

Il brevetto sviluppato da Evifill è, da un lato, molto intuitivo, dall’altro piuttosto complicato da realizzare e solo grazie al sistema di motion control Simotion D435 sono stati ottenuti risultati ottimali, contenendo al contempo i costi di sviluppo del prototipo. «Senza la flessibilità di un sistema di motion control, difficilmente avremmo potuto seguire e provare le diverse alternative immaginate in fase progettuale» affermano in Evifill. Un grande vantaggio, in questo senso, è derivato dalla funzione “trace” (grazie all’oscilloscopio integrato in Simotion), che consente di “vedere” il comportamento dei motori a valle del sistema di controllo e che assicura tempi ridotti nell’ottimizzare il sistema elettronico meccanico.

Grazie alla funzione di trace, senza il ricorso a strumenti esterni, è dunque possibile tracciare l’andamento di parame-

The innovatory feature lies in the use of the Siemens 1FK7 brushless motors that drive all the stations; in particular, a Siemens 1FN3 linear brushless motor powers the main conveying drive.

The linear 1FN3 motors feature for their compact size and for their high dynamic performance, also thanks to water cooling, which enables highly reduced mechanics for conveying the film and the consequent rapid pitch change (no mechanical adjustment being required).

Evifill Srl has found in Siemens the ideal supplier for electronic

components, thanks to the completeness of the range of products and solutions offered for machine control and automation: valves, temperature and pressure sensors, asynchronous motors, as well as, as far as motion is concerned, Simotion D and 1 FN3 rotational and line brushless motors.

Even the compatibility with the products that have now become part of the daily existence of every programmer/electrician, such as the ET200M and the possibility of reusing the experience made on the S7 concerning the onboard machine part and for the sensors and actuators guarantees a considerable time saving in the design and assembly stage.

The Drive-cliq interface considerably cuts wiring time and eliminates the possibility of mistakes being made.

Another undoubted advantage is the compactness of the Sinamics S120 drive in the DC bus form, that enables both a downscaled circuit panel as well as the possibility of improving the energy balance of the axial movement system.

Automation & Controls Non-contact safety system The PSENslock safety systems for safety gates proposed by Pilz Italia Srl (Novedrate, CO) are PDF-M type switches based on transponder technology (RFId) and are able to guarantee a high level of protection against manipulation.

With a locking electromagnetic force (500 or 1000 N), they prevent the operator from accidentally opening the swing or sliding doors. PSENslock systems for non-contact control and blocking safety gates represent a valid alternative to their mechanical counterparts.

Not subject to wear, they can be connected to one another or other non-contact switches (PSENcode) made with transponder technology.

Programmable logic controller VIPA Italia (San Zeno Naviglio, BS) presents the new 314SE, based on PLC 7001, which, like all SPEED7® CPUs, can be programmed with Siemens’ STEP7 language. This programmable logic controller has been designed for applications in which time represents a critical factor, but it also satisfies growing demand for ever expanding memory. The major advantage of a PLC based on Speed7® technology indeed lies in the fact that its memory can be expanded up to 512 Kbytes: all that is required is the insertion of an MCC card in the slot. Thus the number of CPU types that the user must store is reduced.

Thanks to the CPU’s high performance (up to 30 times faster than normal controllers), the 314SE SPEED7® CPU is destined for high frequency applications. The standard configuration integrates an RJ45 Ethernet interface for PG/OP communications, which can be supplemented with an optional PtP interface for serial protocols and a Profibus DP slave interface.

“Large” hypoids for angular applications Wittenstein alpha (Italian branch in Sesto S.G., MI) has expanded its range of angular hypoid reducers, presenting large formats of SPK+ and TPK+ (210-240 and 300-500, respectively). This is a combination of orthogonal hypoid stage with latest generation hypoid toothing and a planetary gearbox with helical toothing. These new series, which have high torques and high reduction ratios, differ in their outgoing interface: SPK+ has execution with shaft, while TPK+ has a flange.

The reduction ratios range from i=12 to i=10000, with more than 37 possible combinations; the transmittable torques reach 6000Nm, with yields of more than 94%.

TPK+ is also available in a High Torque version, characterized by extreme positioning precision, high torques and torsional rigidity.

While in the standard version a “normal” planetary gearbox is used, the High Torque version uses a gearbox built with particular technical improvements that reduce the specific pressure between teeth and consequently enable the transmission of greater overall torque.

The applications of hypoid orthogonal reduction gears with epicycloidal stage range from robotics to transfer systems between pressing stations, from tube-curving machines to rotary tables.

“Grandi” ipoidi per prestazioni angolari Wittenstein alpha (sede italiana a Sesto S.G., MI) ha ampliato la gamma dei propri riduttori angolari ipoidi presentando le taglie grandi dei riduttori SPK+ e TPK+ (rispettivamente 210240 e 300-500). Si tratta di una combinazione tra uno stadio ortogonale ipoide con dentatura ipoide di ultima generazione e un riduttore epicicloidale con dentatura elicoidale. Queste nuove serie, che hanno coppie elevate e alti rapporti di riduzione, si differenziano per l’interfaccia in uscita: SPK+ ha l’esecuzione ad albero, mentre TPK+ ha la flangia.

I rapporti di riduzione vanno da i=12 a i=10000, con oltre 37 possibili combinazioni; le coppie trasmissibili arrivano fino a 6000Nm, con rendimenti superiori al 94%. TPK+ è disponibile anche nella versione High Torque, caratterizzata da una precisione di posizionamento estrema, coppie elevate e rigidezza torsionale. Se nella versione standard viene utilizzato un riduttore epicicloidale “normale”, nella versione High Torque è previsto l’utilizzo di un epicicloidale realizzato attraverso particolari accorgimenti costruttivi che riducono la pressione specifica tra i denti e permettono, di conseguenza, la trasmissione di una coppia totale maggiore.

Le applicazioni dei riduttori ortogonali ipoidi con stadio epicicloidale vanno dalla robotica ai sistemi transfer tra le stazioni delle presse, dalle macchine curva tubi alle tavole rotanti.

Imballaggio secondario all’Est «Un mercato attento all’innovazione nell’imballaggio secondario e orientato all’investimento tecnologico: concetti che trovano un ottimo riscontro nella nostra realtà, estremamente flessibile, affidabile e strutturata per offrire un servizio completo in lingua sul territorio». Così Cama Group valuta l’Est Europa dove, negli ultimi mesi, ha incrementato la fornitura di linee e di impianti complessi alle maggiori multinazionali.

Per questo motivo, la società di Garbagnate Monastero (LC) ha, a sua volta, deciso di investire risorse importanti per presenziare a Upakovka, in programma a Mosca a fine gennaio 2010. In un ampio spazio espositivo (stand 2.1 B11) Cama espone un’incassatrice wrap-around studiata per il settore con-

fectionary, in grado di imballare fino a 360 tavolette di cioccolato al minuto, con configurazione da 12 a 36 prodotti posizionati in costa. Grazie all’ingegnerizzazione specifica, un sistema progettato ad hoc consente di trattare differenti configurazioni di prodotto a una velocità di 30 wrap around al minuto.

Per il settore bakery propone invece una linea composta da un’astucciatrice elettronica ad alta velocità caricata da due robot Triaflex (evoluzione della gamma di robot custom made di Cama).

In questa specifica applicazione i prodotti (barre), in arrivo a 650/minuto, vengono caricati dai robot in costa e in piano in un’astucciatrice elettronica, per essere poi confezionati in astuccio alla velocità di 170 pezzi/min.

PALLET E CONTENITORI DI PLASTICA - CMP Srl (Saluzzo, CN) ha proposto svariate tipologie di pallet di plastica. Igienici per utilizzo in ambito alimentare e farmaceutico (la versione Plus, antibatterico, impedisce lo sviluppo di batteri e microorganismi a contatto col pallet); da magazzino, per utilizzo interno; leggeri, per esportazioni; speciali, per contenimento cassette; su misura, realizzati su specifica del cliente. Oltre ai fogli antiscivolo e ai fogli di plastica termoformati per lo stoccaggio di bottiglie, l’azienda ha proposto Freezer Spacer, distanziatori per congelamento e scongelamento. Realizzati in HDPE, resistono a temperature comprese tra -50 +90 °C.

Incartonamento modulare Zucchini Packaging Lines Srl (Castel Maggiore, BO) ha presentato ZMV, un nuovo sistema modulare per l’imballaggio secondario/inscatolamento di prodotti di vario genere, come ad esempio gli alimentari (in scatola, sacchetto, busta, bottiglia, lattina), quelli della detergenza e della cosmetica (liquidi e solidi), nonché gli articoli “non woven” (fazzoletti, pannolini, tovaglioli ecc.). Concepito per offrire la massima flessibilità d’uso, ZMV è un sistema modulare che, in funzione delle esigenze specifiche, può essere configurato sia come “macchina” compatta, raggruppando le unità, sia come linea di confezionamento ad “isole”. È infatti costituito da una serie di unità funzionali, ognuna delle quali svolge una funzione nel processo di incartonamento e confezionamento secondario dei prodotti.

Secondary packaging for Eastern Europe «A market with an eye to innovation in secondary packaging and oriented towards technological investment: concepts that are mirrored in our concern, which is extremely flexible, reliable and structured so as to offer a complete, localized, on-site service». That’s how Cama Group defines Eastern Europe, where, in recent months, it has expanded the supply of lines and complex installations to the major multinationals. For this reason, the concern, which is based in Garbagnate Monastero (LC), has for its part decided to invest significant resources to step up its presence at Upakovka, scheduled to be held in Moscow in late January 2010. In an ample exhibition space (stand 2.1

B11), Cama will display a wraparound casepacking machine designed for the confectionary sector, able to package up to 360 chocolate bars per minute, with 1236 on edge product formats. Thanks to its specific engineering, an ad hoc system enables treating different product configurations at a speed of 30 wraparounds per minute. For the bakery sector, on the other hand, the concern proposes a line composed of a high speed electronic cartoning machine loaded by two Triaflex robots (a development of Cama’s custom made robot range). In this specific application, the products (bars), arriving 650/minute, are loaded on edge and flat by the robots into an electronic cartoning machine, to then be packed in cases at the speed of 170 pieces/minute.

Pallets and plastic containers CMP Srl (Saluzzo, CN) has proposed a variety of plastic pallet types. Hygienic pallets for use in the food and pharmaceutical sectors (the antibacterial Plus version prevents the growth of bacteria and microorganisms in contact with the pallet); storage pallets for inside use; light pallets for exports; special pallets for crates; custom pallets made according to the customer’s specifications. In addition to non-slip sheets and thermoformed plastic sheets for storing bottles, the concern has proposed Freezer Spacers, spacers for freezing and thawing.

Made out of HDPE, they are resistant at temperatures between -50 and +90 °C.

Modular casepacking Zucchini Packaging Lines Srl (Castel Maggiore, BO) presented ZMV, a new modular “system” for secondary packaging/casepacking of various kinds of products, including for example foods (tin can, bag, pouch, bottle, aluminium can), detergents and cosmetics (liquid and solid), not to mention non-woven articles (tissues, diapers, napkins etc.).

Conceived to offer maximum flexibility of use, ZMV is a modular system, which, according to the user’s specific requirements, can be set up both as a compact “machine”, grouping units, and as a packaging line with islands. It indeed consists of a series of functional elements, each of which plays a part in the flow of casepacking and secondary packaging of products.

Rolling along the curve Traditional transport systems normally use slide guides that function according to the principle of sliding friction. In addition to the greater amount of power absorbed, the excess friction applies a high degree of stress to the modular chain used for transport and heats the points of contact. That’s why, generally speaking, conveyor systems are divided into multiple

tracks, entailing added costs and leading to certain functional limitations posed by extra transfer points. Autosat, in particular, automates storage in the drive-in channels ensuring the max exploitation of the volume of the warehouse facilities.

Usable also for applications in the cold chain (in environments of 30°C), it enables the completely automatic storage of pallets 800x1200, 1000x1200 e 1200x1200 mm e and payload of up to 1500 kg.

The use is very simple: all the handling frontally at the warehouse and every function is run with a RF remote control. Autosat automatically recognises direction of circulation and can be shifted from one channel to another using a forklift truck.

a recessione, unita a un calo degli investimenti in prevenzione, ha generato l’aumento più significativo di differenze inventariali mai registrato dal 2001, anno di nascita del Barometro Mondiale dei Furti nel Retail*.

Nel 2009, infatti, con una cifra globale che poco si discosta dagli 84,165 miliardi di euro, si è registrato un notevole incremento dei furti (+5,9%) rispetto all’anno precedente. Lo studio ha preso in esame i costi (legati alle differenze inventariali e alla criminalità nel settore del retail globale) registrati da luglio 2008 a giugno 2009 e ha evidenziato che l’aumento delle differenze inventariali è stato trasversale in tutte le regioni prese in esame, con dati particolarmente significativi nei paesi del Nord America (dove l’incremento si è attestato al +8,1%), Africa Medio Orientale (+7,5%) ed Europa (+4,7%).

In Italia, la percentuale delle differenze inventariali è stata dell’1,36% rispetto al fatturato retail, con un incremento del 6,2% sui dati 2008.

In 2009, the economic crisis, in addition to bringing a decline in consumption, led to a general increase in theft, with negative repercussions on salespoints throughout the world.

The total cost of the thefts amounts to 84 billion Euro, while in Italy the loss has been 3.8 billion Euro.

Retail thefts The recession, combined with falling investments in prevention, has generated the most significant increase in stock shrinkage ever recorded since 2001, the year in which the Global Retail Theft Barometer was established*. In 2009, indeed, with a total figure of just off of 84.165 billion Euro, a

considerable increase in theft over the previous year (+5.9%) has been recorded. The study examined the costs (related to inventory discrepancies and crime in the global retail sector) recorded from July 2008 to June 2009 and highlighted how the increase in stock shrinkages straddled all regions examined, with particularly significant data in the countries of North America (where the increase amounted to +8.1%), Middle Eastern Africa (+7.5%) and Europe (+4.7%). In Italy, the percentage of inventory discrepancies accounted for 1.36% of retail turnover, with a 6.2% increase over 2008 data.

Crisis effect It is interesting to note how Italy records the highest increase among Western European countries: indeed, of the European region, only Slovakia (+9.8%), the Baltic

Republics - Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania - (+6.7%), the Czech Republic (+6.5%) and Turkey (+6.4%) beat Italy. The causes of this phenomenon are attributed to the economic recession, which affected all largescale retail sectors. In particular, the 2009 study asked operators if, compared to the previous year, they experienced a significant increase in theft, attempted or successful, by shoplifters and dishonest employees. Worldwide, Italy places first for percentage of retailers who claim to have experienced an increase in theft due to the crisis (54.2%), followed by South Africa (52.6%) and the United States (51.7%). One should keep in mind, however, that an increase in attempted theft does not necessarily generate an increase in stock shrinkages, inasmuch as that also depends on prevention strategies

adopted at salespoints. As for the products most prone to theft, the highest numbers worldwide were found in designer clothing and apparel/accessories (1.84%) and in the cosmetics, perfumes, beauty products and pharmaceuticals sectors (1.77%). Italy mirrors global trends, with a few features specific to the country: in the ranking of the ten most stolen products (see table), we find “fresh” foods such as meat, fish, prepared meats and dairy products in the first place, followed by articles for personal health and hygiene (cosmetics, perfumes, but also denture adhesive and mouthwash) and by wines and spirits.In order to overcome these difficult times, retailing experts advise not to succumb to reducing investments in innovation, but to consider inventory discrepancies management activities as a strategic element in a concern’s success and growth.

È proprio in questo ambito che trova applicazione la Serie K di sistemi dropon-demand in linea di Domino Printing Sciences, plc. Il modello di punta di questa gamma, la stampante K200, grazie alla particolare configurazione degli ugelli di stampa, assicura una più alta risoluzione e una maggiore produttività. Nelle applicazioni a banda stretta come la stampa di etichette, ciò permette di stampare con una risoluzione di 300 dpi a 90 m/min.

Per soddisfare inoltre le esigenze di tracciabilità e rintracciabilità dei prodotti lungo tutta la catena di fornitura, Domino ha introdotto sistemi che, oltre alla stampa di numeri, grafici, indirizzi

e dati personalizzati, possono apporre codici a barre e persino codici a barre a matrice 2D, comprendenti codici QR (Quick Response) e Data Matrix.

The possibility of using inkjet digital technology for the high resolution printing of variable data onto a multitude substrates enables the converter to differentiate his own commercial

activity and to create new business opportunities. By in fact adding a digital element to ones own packaging converting or labeling line, a traditional printer can complement already existing offset or flexo printing with part personalising numbering, addresses, graphics or barcodes.

This is precisely the territory of Domino Printing Sciences inline drop-on-demand K series system.

The top model in this range, the K200 printer, thanks to the special print nozzle configuration, ensures a higher resolution and a greater productivity. In the narrow web application like the printing of labels, this enables print with a resolution of 300 dps at 90 m/min.

To also satisfy the demand for tracking&tracing of the products along the entire supply chain, Domino has introduced systems that, as well as the printing of numbers, charts, addresses and personalised data, can add barcodes and even 2D matrix barcodes, comprising QR (Quick Response) codes and Data Matrix.

This type of personalisation can be obtained both with K Series solutions, as well as with the Bitjet+ v4.5 printer, the high speed inline digital print system, recently launched by Domino. The Bitjet+ v4.5 has an extremely compact printhead that, thanks to the use of rapidly drying inks, enables the print of numerous substrates,

including glossy paper, plastics and films.

The K-Series and Bitjet+v4.5 printers work with intuitive Editor GT, the inline production control system. Based on a Microsoft Windows® platform, the GT Editor ensures the right reproduction of the progressive numbers, often covering barcodes, one-off and serialised numbers, addresses or 2D codes.

This includes the numbering of lots in label printing for the pharmaceutical sector, and likewise applications in the gaming and security sector, where it is vital that there are no duplications in a sequence or that no labels are missing.

Labeling & Coding Dalla bobina alla sleeve Freschi Srl (Piacenza) ha progettato e realizzato una nuova macchina per la formazione e l’incollaggio di etichette sleeve. Denominata Tubolatrice, trasforma film planari da bobina - PVC retraibile, PET, PS e PLA - in una manica incollata, che viene poi nuovamente riavvolta in bobina. La macchina è stata concepita per le grandi produzioni e costruita dunque con componentistica di alta qualità, con l’obiettivo di arrivare a proporre una soluzione semplice, sicura ed estremamente affidabile. Fra i componenti principali si segnala lo svolgitore a due alberi indipendenti, dotato di un sistema automatico di guida bordo e corredato di una tavola di giunta con taglio manuale. Due i sistemi di coltelli incorporati: uno seghettato per la foratura pre-strappo, l’altro per l’eliminazione dei rifili; in entrambi i casi i portacoltelli sono a movimentazione pneumatica.

Il cuore della macchina è un sistema brevettato per la formatura e la saldatura della manica, dove il materiale viene guidato sia internamente sia esternamente da un tipo particolare di mol-

le, e i due lembi vengono saldati per fusione quasi istantaneamente.

La qualità della saldatura è controllata con continuità da un’apparecchiatura brevettata a ultrasuoni. Infine, entra in gioco il gruppo di pressa-piega film, montato su una guida circolare, regolabile direttamente in produzione.

Caratteristiche tecniche: velocità meccanica 250 m/min; larghezza passaggio materiale fra 50/200 e 530/830 mm; senso del nastro da sinistra a destra; svolgimento con mandrini da 76 mm di diametro e avvolgimento con cambio automatico e mandrini da 76 mm di diametro; traino in uscita; gruppi aggiuntivi di pressa-piega, tubolatore con calibro; colore.

Materiali e macchine Nell’ambito del decoro primario, Arca Etichette SpA punta l’attenzione sulle etichette linerless, applicabili sul top, su due lati, su tre lati o avvolgenti su prodotti di forma rettangolare o quadrata. L’azienda di Marcallo con Casone (MI) realizza etichettatrici (per confezioni unitarie, multiple e pallet) e soluzioni per l’identificazione logistica (software ArcaLog per la tracciabilità, lettori di codici a barre, stampanti desktop, print-apply e nastri a trasferimento termico).

From the reel to the sleeve Freschi Srl (Piacenza) has designed and created a new machine for the forming and gluing sleeve labels. Called Tubolatrice, it converts flat film on reel retractable PVC, PET, PS and PLA - into a glued sleeve, that is then newly wrapped onto a reel. The machine has been conceived for largescale outputs and hence has been designed using high quality components, with the objective of attaining the proposal of a simple, safe and extremely reliable solution.

Among the main components one notes the two independent shafts, equipped with an automatic edge guide system and with a splicing table with manual cutting.

Two systems of incorporated cutters: one serrated for the pre-rip holes, the other for trimming; in

both cases the cutter holders are operated pneumatically.

The heart of the machine features a patented system for forming and welding the sleeves, where the material is driven both internally and externally by special springs, and the two ends are melt welded almost instantly.

The quality of the weld is controlled continuously by a patented ultrasonic system.

Lastly, the film press-fold system comes into play, mounted on a circular guide, that can be regulated directly during production.

Può trattare sleeve di PVC, PET, OPS e PLA, da 35 a 70 micron.

Sleeving machines Compact and versatile, Ulisse 2000 has been designed by

This sleeving machine, capable of applying 2,000 to 3,000 labels/h, features a rapid format change to the millimetre, sleeve transport with brushless motor, horizontal/vertical perforation and air or steam heatshrink tunnel.

It can process PVC, PET, OPS and PLA sleeves from 35 to 70 microns.

Among the options available: double auger, guarantee seal positioner, horizontal or vertical precutting, end of roll control and control of sleeve presence on containers and double roll magazine.

The Ulisse series includes numerous models, with production rates of from 4,000 to 30,000 pieces/h.

SIGILLI A PROVA DI METALDETECTOR - Itasystem produce sigilli di plastica a chiusura inviolabile. Protetti da brevetto Europeo ed USA, i sigilli Itasystem sono privi di metalli; sono infatti realizzati in PP e saldati a ultrasuoni. Su di essi può essere riportato lotto, data di produzione e scadenza, codice a barre ecc., ma possono anche essere utilizzati (nella versione clippy i-tag) come strumenti per ricordare eventi, manifestazioni o persino diventare pratici segnalibri.

L’azienda di Brescia è in grado di fornire non solo i sigilli ma anche le macchine per applicarli.

Senza problemi di allineamento Electradue Srl ha presentato l’etichettatrice Labelflex-Magellis, progettata per soddisfare esigenze non risolvibili con macchine standard (in questo caso etichettatura di confezioni termoformate su una macchina multipista). Per risolvere problemi di estetica, difficoltà di utilizzo o fermi macchina dovuti ad anomalie di allineamento, l’azienda di San Gillio (TO) ha ideato un sistema affidabile e preciso nell’esecuzione che combina una motorizzazione brushless, un misuratore di velocità ad encoder e una meccanica solida. Labelflex-Magellis, in particolare, prima etichetta il film (fuori linea) e poi alimenta la confezionatrice con il film già etichettato. Può lavorare con bobine di diametro massimo di 450 mm e di fascia 450 mm.

L’applicazione delle etichette (la cui larghezza massima è di 360 mm) avviene a sfridatura; la distanza tra di esse può essere impostata su pannello touch-screen o, se il film ne è dotato, tramite lettura di tacca.

Metal detector proof seals Itasystem produces tamperproof plastic seals. Protected by a European and US patent, the Itasystem seals are without metals; they are in fact made in PP and ultrasonically sealed. They can bear lot, production numbers and best before dates, barcodes etc., but they can also be used (in the clippy i.tag version) as tools for reminding of events, shows or even become practical bookmarks. The Brescia based company is capable of not only providing the seals but also the machines to apply them.

Without line-up problems Electradue Srl has presented the Labelflex-Magellis labeler, designed to satisfy requirements that cannot be met by standard machines (in this case labeling heatformed packs on a multilane machine). To solve problems of appearance, difficulty of use or machine stops due to poor

Lineari e rotative L’etichettatrice automatica Tiger per etichette autoadesive è stata studiata da Newtec Labelling Srl per risolvere le esigenze di confezionamento di svariati settori come quello alimentare (inclusi gli oli), delle bevande, cosmetico e farmaceutico. Può lavorare con contenitori cilindrici e sagomati, a base quadra, rettangolare e ovale, con etichetta, controetichetta e sigillo di garanzia. La velocità varia da 1000 a 8000 pezzi/h. La serie di etichettatrici rotative Elite, con opportune modifiche, può invece utilizzare varie tecnologie di applicazione: etichetta autoadesiva, colla umida, colla a caldo e funzionamento misto.

STAMPA E APPLICA MODULARE - La Print&Apply proposta da Packlab (San Giorgio, MN) rappresenta una soluzione modulare per stampare ed applicare etichette autoadesive da bobina. L’etichetta può essere applicata sulla parte superiore, inferiore o laterale del prodotto. I sistemi utilizzati sono a pistone oppure a contatto diretto con il prodotto in funzione della velocità di produzione. Alcuni dati tecnici: velocità fino 304 mm/s, area di stampa 118x104 mm, risoluzione 200 dpi.

Labelflex Magellis, in particular first labels the film (out of line) and then feeds the packer with the already labeled film. It can work with rolls of a max diameter of 450 mm and 450 mm across. The application of the labels (that have a max width of 360 mm) is by scuffing; the distance between the same can be set on a touchscreen panel or, if the film have them, via notch reading.

The concern, which is based in Sesto S. Giovanni (MI), also supplies special labels for difficult applications (rough or oily surfaces etc.), not to mention tags of varying weights, suitable for heat transfer overprinting or direct heat printing. The concern also offers an ample series of heat transfer ribbons, including those made with resin (suitable for high temperatures and oily surfaces), wax/resin (barcode printing), wax (suitable for high speeds) and special ribbons that react to UV rays.

Linear and rotary Labels and ribbons United Barcode Systems offers a wide range of consumables to meet a wide array of printing requirements. The labels, also available in RFId version, are made with various materials and formats and can be customized with any type of finish and color.

The Tiger automatic labeling machine for pressure sensitive labels has been devised by Newtec Labeling Srl to solve the packaging demands of various sectors like that of food (including oils), beverage, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. It can process cylindrical and shaped-, square

based-, rectangular and oval containers, with labels, counter labels and guarantee seals. Its speed varies from 1000 to 8000 pieces/h. The Elite rotary labeling series, with suitable modifications, can in turn use various application technologies: pressure sensitive labels, damp glue, hot glue and mixed functions.

Modular print & apply The Print & Apply system proposed by Packlab (San Giorgio, MN) represents a modular solution for printing and applying pressure sensitive labels from reels. The label can be applied onto the top, bottom or side of the product. The systems used are with piston or in direct contact with the product, depending on production speed.

Some technical information: speed up to 304 mm/s, printing area of 118x104 mm, 200 dpi resolution.

Elesa (Monza, MI) ha arricchito la propria gamma di elementi di fissaggio e posizionamento con i nuovi pistoncini di posizionamento a molla PMT.101 e PMT.100 (rispettivamente con e senza posizione di arresto) e GN 817.

I PMT sono i primi pistoncini ad essere stati realizzati con corpo filettato in super-tecnopolimero; gli unici componenti in metallo rimangono il puntale, disponibile in acciaio brunito con estremità temprata o in acciaio inox Aisi 303 e, naturalmente, la molla interna, anch’essa in acciaio inox Aisi 302. I GN 817 rappresentano l’evoluzione dei pistoncini di posizionamento a molla serie GN 617. Grazie al sistema di accoppiamento tra perno e impugnatura offrono diversi vantaggi: per ogni diametro del puntale sono disponibili due versioni con corsa di diversa lunghezza; ingombri esterni ridotti, a parità di lunghezza del corpo filettato; meccanismi di blocco in posizione retratta interni all’impugnatura.

La società francese Luceo Inspection Worldwide (Gruppo Tiama) ha lanciato ThermoSecure, una gamma di macchine per l’ispezione tramite video camera in grado di controllare la qualità della saldatura degli imballaggi e le informazioni marcate o riportate in etichetta (date di scadenza, codici a barre ecc.).

ThermoSecure rileva eventuali difetti di saldatura, il mal posizionamento di un’etichetta o l’illeggibilità dei dati stampati. In modo automatico, e a cadenze elevate, controlla inoltre la conformità delle informazioni relative a peso/prezzo dei prodotti confezionati a peso variabile (prosciutto, cubetti, prodotti di macelleria, piatti pronti...).

Fixing elements Elesa (Monza, MI) has expanded its range of fixing and positioning elements with the new springloaded positioning pistons PMT.101 and PMT100 (with and without stop positions, respectively) and GN 817.

The PMTs are the first pistons to be made with a threaded supertechnopolymer body; the only metal components remain the rod, available in polished steel with a tempered end or in Aisi 303 stainless steel, and, naturally, the internal spring, also in Aisi 302 stainless steel. They are resistant to corrosion, light and with a low push rod friction coefficient. The GN 817s represent the evolution of GN 617 series spring-loaded positioning pistons. Inspection and control of packaging The French concern Luceo (Tiama group) has launched ThermoSecure a range of inspection units via video camera that controls the quality of the pack seal and the information marked on the pack or contained on the label (best before date, barcodes, etc). ThermoSecure can show up any seal flaws, poor positioning of the label or illegibility of printed data. It also checks the coherence of the weight/price information of the packaged products (meat, cheese, prepared foods, etc.) automatically and at high throughput.

Designed to work simultaneously in compression and in vacuum, it can reach a max rotation speed of 6200 rot/min. Increasing and decreasing its speed, energy consumption lessens proportionate to the air requirement of the machine. The machine functions according to the principle of dynamic compression using contactless rotators. It has an integrated motor with shaft fitted with two independent rotators. The motor and the body of the blower is cooled by a ventilator. The machine is brushless motor driven and the number of rotations is set using an electronic KLM switch.

The side channel blower, thanks to its dry contactless compression, the small number of components, minimum maintenance and integrated cooling, stands as an innovatory solution for numerous applications in the graphics and converting sector.

RTC ha effettuato un’analisi strutturale sui profili di alluminio impiegati per realizzare strutture dedicate a macchine per automazione o sistemi per sorreggere carichi. I carichi e le sollecitazioni meccaniche (statiche o dinamiche) sono scaricati nei punti di ancoraggio dei profili. La sezione del profilo, indipendentemente dal suo spessore, per effetto del carico si deforma (movimento di flessione e torsione). Nelle figure 1, 2 e 3 sono illustrati gli effetti del carico sulle varie strutture.

RTC has carried out a structural analyses on aluminium profiles used to make dedicated structures for automation machines or for systems for withstanding loads. The loads and the mechanical stress (static or dynamic) are discharged onto the profile anchoring points. The profile section, whatever its thickness, buckles under the load (flexural and torsional movement). Figures 1, 2 and 3 show the effects of the load on the various structures.

An exclusive project Thanks to the special design and the patented accessory called “load divider”, the BOXline profile prevents the structural aluminium profile from buckling under loads while cancelling flexural-torsional oscillation, ensuring stable connections and a sturdier structure.

The load divider is a steel and aluminium connecting accessory, inserted in the insets of the BOXline profile and made in two sliding parts.

The expansion created within the inset blocks the oscillation and distributes the load uniformly along the entire structure of the profile.

The BOXline range can be used in the mechanical engineering, pharmaceutical and handling segments, in belt transfer systems, linear guides, format change systems, on workbenches and in screw and belt line systems.

The main strongpoints - as well as the possibility of over 2000 accessories - are its interchangeability with the main aluminium profiles and the easy ■ creation of integrated solutions.

Accessori per robot Il pacchetto di accessori per robot “Triflex R” presentato da igus GmbH di Colonia, specializzata nella produzione di catene portacavi, comprende ben oltre 200 componenti, in grado si soddisfare svariate esigen2 ze: dal grande robot per saldatura al piccolo robot di palettizzatore. L’azienda (sede italiana a Robbiate, LC) ha di recente apportato diverse novità concepite per costruttori e utenti di robot. Ne ricordiamo alcune.

Per la catena portacavi “Triflex R” è ora disponibile un’unità di cambio rapido; per eseguire il cambio di catene portacavi per robot preassemblati, non è più necessario un nuovo allineamento (1). È stato presentato anche un nuovo dispositivo di protezione a chiusura rapida che protegge le catene in caso di forti urti (in pochi secondi, senza bisogno di viti, il dispositivo di protezione è montato e pronto all’uso).

Altra novità è “Triflex R 125”, catena portacavi tridimensionale di diametro esterno di 135 mm 1 che offre molto spazio per accogliere condotti con diametri importanti ed è adatta ai movimenti su più assi di robot e macchine (2). Un nuovo giunto a testa sferica facilita il montaggio o smontaggio anche a catena piena.

Accessories for robots The “Triflex R” accessories package for robots presented by igus GmbH, Cologne, specialised in cable chains, comprises well over 200 components, capable of satisfying a host of requirements: from the large soldering to small palletiser robots, the company (Italian branch at Robbiate, LC) has recently added a series of new features conceived for robot builders and users. We cite some.

For the Triflex R cable chain a rapid exchange unit to change preassembled cable carrying chains for robots is now available (1). Thus lining up anew is no longer necessary.

A new quick closure protection device that protects the chains in the event of heavy shocks (in a few, seconds, without requiring screws, the protection device is assembled and ready for use) was also presented.

Another new feature is “Triflex R 125”, 3D cable chain with 135 mm external diameter that offers a lot of space for conduits with large diameters and is suited for pluriaxial movements of robots and machines (2). A new ball-andsocket join facilitates the assembly and disassembly even when the chain is full.
