New Year, New Changes
It’s been a year now since I took over as Editor in Chief of David Atlanta, and it’s certainly been an educational experience. Over the past year, we’ve tried out some new things with the magazine to try and make David Atlanta even more reflective of what our readers want on a weekly basis: a go-to source for entertainment and community information. Over the past few months, we’ve been working on some larger changes to our weekly content. Starting next week, you’ll start to see some of the changes. As we roll out these changes, I hope you’ll let us know what you think. You, our readers, are the reason we produce what we do on a weekly basis, and these new ideas have been created with you in mind.

By Romeo San Vicente Bette Midler chasing Mae HBO Films recently announced Mae West, a biopic based on the legendary screen star’s autobiography Goodness Had Nothing to Do With It. Hoping to score another hit along the lines of Behind the Candelabra, the network has lined up heavy hitters to run the show. The film will be directed by The Exorcist ’s William Friedkin (who, it should be noted, also directed controversial gay classics The Boys in the Band and Cruising) and written by Harvey Fierstein. And starring as West (and also executive producing) will be Bette Midler, a woman whose own career has more than a little in common with West’s. Before Hollywood, both women worked outside the system, Midler singing regularly at New York’s Continental Baths and West staging her own plays that routinely scandalized the public standards of the time, works with titles like Sex that occasionally forced her to battle and lose against obscenity charges. No other casting has been announced yet so it’s unclear as to who will play West as a young woman. And for now we’ll just assume that the 68-yearold Midler’s contract didn’t already force the entire production into a corner requiring digital youngification to make her into a 39-year-old signing her first contract with Paramount. Because that would be weird. Sofia Coppola moving to Fairyland Sofia Coppola knows what she’s about. Her body of film work has concerned itself with the ways young women respond to being placed in unusual living arrangements. The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, Somewhere, The Bling Ring: all of them have in common a sense of adolescent female constriction. Her new project, 12 // davidatlanta.com
though, sees life inside a fishbowl as something perhaps more freeing. Coppola will adapt (with Andrew Durham) Alysia Abbott’s Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father. It’s a coming-of-age story set in San Francisco, where Abbott was raised by her gay father, Steve Abbott, a widowed poet and activist. Uniquely unsheltered, Alysia Abbott moved among the experimental culture and art scene of the 1970s and 80s, observing it all firsthand as a child before, during and after the first wave of AIDS. No casting has been announced, but Coppola’s intuitive approach to the inner lives of girls makes this kind of a perfect fit. Laverne Cox, breaking out Laverne Cox, the transgender co-star of Orange is the New Black, isn’t letting the grass grow under her feet. As one of a handful of rising trans actresses – and clearly aware that the entertainment industry is still figuring out that trans performers exist – she’s striking while it’s hot. Next she’ll be seen in first-time filmmaker Lex Sidon’s indie Grand Street. The plot centers on an out-of-work film executive and aspiring writer as they spend 24 hours traversing the underground culture of New York City. Cox will play a character named Chardonnay and will star alongside Kelly McGillis, longtime character actor Michael Wincott, Sam Robards, British newcomer Charlotte Riley and Twilight ’s Mia Maestro. Now, about that name: We’re going to just hope, strongly, that Cox’s performance – and the character, as written – will push the boundaries of stereotype that the name “Chardonnay” brings to mind. But if it doesn’t, hey, at least they gave the role to a trans woman.
Meet The Fifth Beatle Director Peyton Reed (Bring It On) is about to take on the story of the gay man who was at the epicenter of the rock revolution of the 1960s, a fellow named Brian Epstein. Maybe you don’t know who he was, but Epstein discovered The Beatles, got them their first record deal and worked alongside them until his untimely death at age 32 of an accidental sleeping pill overdose. The film is called The Fifth Beatle and it’s based on Vivek J. Tiwary’s graphic novel of the same name. Early stages at the moment, but the project already boasts an impressive feat: access to the Lennon/ McCartney song catalog, a privilege afforded to very few. Casting ought to get interesting, too. Which member of One Direction do you think will beg to be considered as John or Paul or George or Ringo? More as this develops…

of the week: Les Kinsolving
Kinsolving continues, “There has developed a militancy that may well know no bounds, and that has torn apart the family of the former vice president of the United States.” Mary Cheney, as we all know, is a lesbian. Liz Cheney, her sister, is a candidate for the U.S. Senate. And Liz “does not believe in same-sex marriage.” Which is, I should point out, a stupid thing to say since same-sex marriage is an actual thing. The same goes for people who say, “I don’t believe in organized religion” because, duh, organized religion is real. So you’re either saying you don’t think it exists or what you really mean is that you don’t practice it or like it or whatever. For Liz’s stance on “same-sex marriage,” Kinsolving writes, “[S]he has been publicly denounced by her militant lesbian sister, Mary Cheney, and Mary’s similarly militant lesbian mate, Heather Poe.” Poor Dick Cheney and his family torn apart by lesbian militants. Makes you wonder why terrible things happen to terrible people. But I digress. Kinsolving reports that the Cheney sisters aren’t speaking and Mary is holding out until Liz changes her tune. He then quotes Mary as saying, “Liz’s position is to treat my family as second-class citizens. That’s not a position I can be ‘lovingly tolerant’ toward.”
By D’Anne Witkowski
O
ne of the anti-gay right’s favorite arguments is that the gays are actually the intolerant ones. It’s a pretty laughable premise, actually. When it is proposed that LGBT people shouldn’t be protected from workplace discrimination, that same-sex couples shouldn’t be allowed to get married, that transgender folks should be “put in camps,” that gays should be stoned to death, LGBT people and their allies understandably protest. And then we are accused of being intolerant of our persecutors’ religious or moral beliefs.
Kinsolving writes, “This really begs a question: How would lesbian Mary expect her sister to regard her orientation if she were polyandrous (female polygamy), a pedophile, incestuous or necrophiliac?” Um, no, actually it does not beg that question. At all. Not only is equating lesbianism with polygamy, pedophilia, and necrophilia insulting, it’s a clear attempt to dehumanize Mary Cheney and Heather Poe and to excuse Liz Cheney’s shitty treatment of her family for her own political gain.
In Kinsolving’s world, Mary is the intolerant person in Right-wing broadcaster Les Kinsolving has an especially this equation insulting take on “tolerance” in a guest column posted on World Net Daily on Dec. 2. Now, WND, for the uninitiated, is a because she’s rabbit hole of hate and lies for and by right-wing luminaries. calling out her sister for being The hot subject on WND right now is Nelson Mandela, and how he was a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Person. an asshole instead of letting Kinsolving’s column, however, focused on Mary Cheney and Liz slap her in what an intolerant dyke she is. the face and responding, “Thank you Kinsolving writes wistfully, “There was once a day in this nation when lesbians and others with alternate sexual orien- sister, may I tations were comparatively mute.” have another?” I say Hail Mary Something tells me that if Kinsolving could get his hands on for calling bullshit when a time machine he would take it back to 1969 to stop the she sees it. 4 DAYZ Mariah Paris Balenciaga Talks ‘Drag Race,’ Atlanta, and Her New Single BY MAT THEW HARRELL 16 // davidatlanta.com
I
n the past few years, the art of female impersonation, or “drag,” has taken off and been forced into the limelight through shows like TRANSform Me and RuPaul’s Drag Race, with Drag Race being the biggest name. On Drag Race, the queen of all queens RuPaul finds girls from all over the country with the Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent to be “America’s Next Drag Superstar”. In season three, Atlanta was represented by a gorgeous beauty who goes by the name of Mariah Paris Balenciaga.
“Mug 4 Dayz” is my first writing project and my first venture into the music world. I felt like I was like a “fish out of water” (pun intended)! Thank goodness I had DJ Ben G, a wellknown producer and DJ here in Atlanta, as my co-writer on this project. What was it like recording your own original material?
I was so nervous about singing, humming, rapping, anything, so I only did cameo vocals on this track. The main vocalist is A ballroom queen, Mariah was hailed as one of the most gor- another rising artist that goes by E.D.N.A. Make sure you look geous faces to stomp the Drag Race runway. Unfortunately, her up on YouTube! My next single will definitely have me as her Joan Crawford impersonation ultimately led to her lead vocals, especially now that I feel comfortable in the studio elimination on the show. But just because she didn’t win the now, and have popped my “musical” cherry! title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar” doesn’t mean that this queen has slowed her hustle. If anything, she’s stepped Why did you decide to create music? it up! I got the chance to snag a meeting with her over drinks and we kiki-ed about the show, her very first single (apI wanted to venture into music because it is a strong medium propriately titled “Mug 4 Dayz”) and her recent run-in with to get any message across to the masses without seeming a local bar! preachy or bitter, ya know? You can say what you want over a super sickening beat and everyone is still dancing! It’s a good I’m so glad you took the time to talk to me. You way to get any message across, really. already know you’re one of my favorite queens! What inspires you in daily life? Well, thanks for being interested in talking to me! (Laughs) In my daily life, I am inspired by my amazing friends. They are But of course! Let’s jump right into it, shall we? all so creative, accomplished, and beautiful, inside and out! I What have you been up to since Drag Race? am also inspired by my mother, Linnea Kelly, for her patience, understanding, respect and kindness for everyone! But please Oh man, I’ve been staying busy, honey! I have been traveling let there be no mistake! She can cut up with the best of them, all over the country, getting the opportunity to meet and and so can I! (Laughs) I learned from the best! work with some wonderful people. It’s really been a blessing. What about inspirations in drag? Ok, so as one of Ru’s girls, I’m sure you watch the show. So, who is your favorite queen this season? My drag inspiration comes from everywhere. Whether it be the lovely local queens I meet when I travel, my Drag Race sisters, If I have to choose a favorite queen of mine on this season, social icons such as Grace Jones, Mariah Carey, Diana Ross, I must be honest and say it’s a tie between Miss RuPaul Chaka Khan, Phylicia Rashad, Diane Carroll and Sheryl Lee herself & Michelle Visage! (Laughs) My favorites for different Ralph. My inspiration from these ladies is as varied as their reasons, of course! personas, but I love and respect them all for individual reasons. Who is your favorite queen out of all the seasons? My favorite queen of all the seasons would be me, of course! I know, I know! Not my most modest moment. (Laughs) Well, baby, like you said, “If it’s right, it’s right!” Atlanta is obviously the drag Mecca of the south. How do you feel Atlanta has been represented on Drag Race? I had hoped we would have had more representation on seasons four and five, but I guess after me, they needed a break from the sickening Atlanta girls! I can’t help it I stirred the pot a little! Now, you are following the steps of some of your Drag Race girls and starting to make some music. Tell us about your new single, “Mug 4 Dayz.” @DavidAtlantaGA // 17
What are some issues facing the drag community as a whole? The main issue I see today for drag is really a “double edge sword” type of issue: mainstreaming! I think it’s great that drag is going mainstream, and now with easy access to tips and an online drag community, people don’t feel so isolated while learning their craft. But, with mainstreaming, I feel we are losing our real world ties to community, sisterhood and drag mentorship.
What else can expect from you soon? Maybe a Mug4Dayz album? Well, I have finally gotten my t-shirts done and I plan on extending the collection. Oh, and you can find them at www. StoreEnvy.com/MUG4DAYZ. I do have a couple more singles in the works, as well as a “BallRoom” mix of “Mug 4 Dayz”. So be on the lookout cause this bitch isn’t finished yet! Oh no, honey! We’re just getting stared! You were recently involved in an instance where you saw a local restaurant discriminate against trans* Atlanta performer Alissah Brooks. Tell us about that. Recently, you may recall some social unrest concerning one of my best friends, Alissah Brooks, who happens to be a transsexual woman. Anyone who has met, or knows someone going through transition, knows that it is a very long process. With that being said, Alissah was denied access to the bar Don Pollo because her ID still had “Male” on it. It was clearly her in the picture on the state-issued Driver’s License, ya know? And the doorman, he was very dismissive and rude. And when we asked why she was being denied entry, he stated, “Men need to dress as men, women need to dress as women and you can’t come in.” But when I pulled out my phone and put him on camera, his response was simply “because we can.” Is this your first time dealing with discrimination? Oh no, honey! I am used to so many different types of discrimination and ignorance from people, and I have just learned how to fight against it in many different ways. But I’m more defensive of others, so I really wasn’t going to let this one slide! (Laughs) They definitely earned themselves a headache for their less than gracious hospitality. 18 // davidatlanta.com
I look at drag queens like geishas. If you are true to the craft, you will never truly learn or respect this craft from watching videos on YouTube. I was fortunate to have multiple generations of drag queens as my drag mentors. You’re very sexy and mysterious on stage. Name three things about you that no one else would know. Let’s see. This is a tough one! (Laughs) Three things most would not know about me? Well, before I was on RuPaul’s Drag Race, I was an accomplished celebrity hairstylist. I had a roster including Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child, Shaun Robinson of “Access Hollywood “, Boris Kodjoe, Tasha Smith, Kenya Moore, Trina, Lil’ Kim and several more. When I am at home, I am a very quiet and laid back person. I love neutral colors and smells in the house. I know I live a loud colorful life in public, but when I am home I enjoy calm energy. Also, I don’t like going to large concerts or events when I am not performing because I get anxiety. And it takes too long to get to the bar!! Where can people find/follow/stalk you? You can find me everywhere! I’m all over Atlanta, performing. You can come find me at Burkhart’s Pub with my Drag Race sister Phoenix, or Blake’s, or Jungle; I’m everywhere! Also, you can find me all over social media, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, all of it. If you name it, you can find a “Mug” on it! (Laughs) You can catch Mariah performing all over Atlanta. To keep up with the fish, follow her on Twitter at @ Mug4Dayz, Instagram: Mug4Dayz, and Facebook.com/ Mug4Dayz! And check out her store as well, for all your Mariah merchandise: StoreEnvy.com/Mug4Dayz.

REWIND
2013 Ten albums you should listen to NOW BY JOSEPH BROWNELL
I
t’s that time of year again—to go back to our iTunes account and examine our play counts over the last 12 months and determine what some of our favorite albums were. By no means an authoritative or exhaustive list, here are ten albums from 2013 that caught our attention. Tegan and Sara; Heartthrob
Some slammed Tegan and Sara’s seventh studio album Heartthrob and accused the duo of selling out, but we couldn’t help but feel a little bit ‘closer’ to the Canadian lesbians when they painted a synth-pop sheen on ten new songs. When you get to the heart of Heartthrob, it’s a Tegan and Sara album through and through—complete with big chorus breakup tunes. Only difference now is you can dance while crying and/or moving on. Our only complaint? This album, even the bonus track deluxe version, just wasn’t long enough. Key Tracks: “Closer,” “Drove Me Wild” and “Now I’m All Messed Up” 22 // davidatlanta.com
Kacey Musgraves; Same Trailer, Different Park Kacey Musgraves’ intelligently penned debut weaves Mary Kay, Mary Jane, booty calls and the gays into its twelve tracks. While it’s too soon to compare this CMA New Artist of the Year’s third single “Follow Your Arrow” to Loretta Lynn’s 1975 controversial song “The Pill,” but Musgraves sure is singing what we already know Nashville is thinking. Still, it’s no surprise the rest of the country has yet to buy in. The track has yet to make the impact of its predecessors. Key Tracks: “Back on the Map,” “Follow Your Arrow” and “Merry Go ‘Round”
Miley Cyrus; Bangerz If you got past the halfnaked twerking, misguided cultural appropriation and the Cyrus/sledge hammer video tonguing, then you realized that Bangerz was part party and part emotional unveiling of a brokenhearted 20-year-old girl. Miley has critics across the board but they shouldn’t be coming from our community. Do you remember being 20? Enough said. And c’mon even “SMS (Bangerz)” might be the bestselling thing Britney had her name on all year. Key Tracks: “Drive,” “FU,” “Wrecking Ball” and “Maybe You’re Right” The National; Trouble Will Find Me There’s an accessible ache in lead singer Matt Berninger’s baritone that makes almost every track on The National’s sixth studio album a journey into one’s consciousness. The destination? Being painfully self-aware. When Berninger sings ‘there’s a science to walking through windows without you’ on the gliding “Graceless,” for a second you believe he’s perfected the art of it. Or at least of making us believe he has. Plus, the band made a cameo appearance on The Mindy Project this year and what’s cooler than that?
LeAnn Rimes; Spitfire If Leann Rimes had twerked her way through a dub step Patsy Cline tribute at the ACA’s, then maybe country radio programmers would take this fully capable singer off the no-play list. Spitfire, Rimes’ most personal album to date, addresses the drama that plagued the embattled singer following her 2009 affair with Eddie Cibrian. But Rimes’ proves she can take the tabloid fodder and construct a poignant (and cheeky) set of tunes. But it’s not entirely the audience’s fault either. Releasing the disappointing Rob Thomas assisted “Gasoline and Matches” doesn’t highlight the album’s true strengths. Key Tracks: “I Do Now,” “What Have I Done,” “Borrowed” and “You’ve Ruined Me”
Key Tracks: “Graceless,” “Slipped,” “Pink Rabbits” and “Don’t Swallow the Cap” Haim; Days Gone By It was Este Haim’s ‘bass face’ that received the most attention after the band’s SNL debut, but it should have been their effortless blended production, reminiscent of the best 70s, 80s and 90s pop, that proved these three California sisters were taking California pop music to the next level. While drawing comparisons to everyone from Fleetwood Mac to Destiny’s Child, we think this trio is just an exciting product of a new wave of inspirations for popular music. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that their 2014 North American tour is selling out. What is a surprise though, is the absence of an Atlanta tour date. Can someone fix this please? Key Tracks: “The Wire,” “If I Could Change Your Mind” and “Running If You Call My Name” @DavidAtlantaGA // 23
Sara Bareilles; The Blessed Unrest Hopefully, Sony plans to take full advantage of the unexpected Album of the Year Grammy nomination for Bareilles’ third studio album The Blessed Unrest, and promotes a second single, pronto. Might we suggest a marriage-equality themed video for the waiting-in-the-wings pop smash “I Choose You,” the Prince-lite funky “Eden,” or the subtle ballad “Manhattan.” Point is, this album is that good and it feels like it’s just been languishing. Key Tracks: “Brave,” “I Choose You,” “Eden” and “Manhattan” Brandy Clark; 12 Stories You might not know her name but Brandy Clark is the Nashville-based singer songwriter responsible for some of this year’s biggest country songs. With co-writes on hits from Kacey Musgraves, The Band Perry and Miranda Lambert, Clark blew away the competition this year with her debut album 12 Stories. Whether it’s a crime of fashion preventing her from shooting a lover in the humorous “Stripes” or the big fat joint she rolls to get by in “Get High,” Clark, who is openly gay, is shepherding focus from the current crop of bro-country back to great songs in country music. Even Clark’s take on her own songs are much more refreshing than their big name counterparts (LeAnn Rimes “Crazy Women,” Reba “The Day She Got Divorced”). Key Tracks: “Take a Little Pill,” “Hold My Hand,” “Get High” and “Stripes” Jason Isbell; Southeastern If we had to sum up Isbell’s Southeastern in one word, it’d be human. The former Drive-By Trucker member’s creative writing studies at the University of Memphis are evident as he delivers more than songs but mini-novels across the album’s twelve tracks. Each song pulls you into its story, introducing you to compelling characters such as a cancer-stricken woman and a man with ‘sharecropper eyes’ in “Elephant” and a Portland stripper selling benzodiazepine in “Different Days.” Key Tracks: “Traveling Alone,” “Elephant,” “Yvette” and “Different Days” 24 // davidatlanta.com
Diane Birch; Speak A Little Louder Diane Birch’s sophomore album could’ve been called Produced A Little Darker. The shiny arrangements on her debut Bible Belt that heralded comparisons to Carole Kings have been replaced with a collection of tunes that would be more at home on the current season of American Horror Story. She channels Stevie Nicks on “Tell Me Tomorrow,” Roxette on the 80’s rock-pop perfect bonus track “Hold On A Little Longer,” and casts a spell on us with the haunting hallmark of hope, “Unfkd.” And it’s totally worth getting the deluxe version of this album. Catch Diane Birch when she comes to Atlanta on March 19 at Vinyl with Andrew Belle. Key Tracks: “Superstars,” “Pretty in Pain,” “Unfkd,” and “Tell Me Tomorrow”
THE TOP TEN FILMS OF
2013
Broken Hearts and Astounding Journeys BY ELIJAH SARKESIAN
C
ompiling top-ten lists of films at the end of the year is one of those completely subjective things people and publications do. When done right, they’re hopefully ways to expose audiences to films they may not have seen. While there are certainly arguments to be made for some other films released in 2013, here are ten films – listed in alphanumeric order – that we recommend you watch if you haven’t seen them already. 12 Years a Slave
characters to grow naturally. And yes, that includes the sex scenes that earned the film an NC-17 rating stateside. Availability: Available on Blu-ray Feb. 11. Don Jon We should hope that more former child stars end up like Joseph Gordon-Levitt. In Don Jon, which finds Gordon-Levitt as star, writer and director, audiences were given one of the freshest, most charming romantic comedies – with a nice dose of reality – the silver screen’s seen in the past several years. He’s ably helped by a brassy turn by Scarlett Johansson as the object of Jon’s affection.
Of the films that made this list, 12 Years a Slave is the one that makes for the most uncomfortable viewing. We’re talking about a film with violence that makes Django Unchained look tame by comparison, without any of the satisfaction of seeing Availability: Now available on Blu-ray, iTunes, and VOD. horrible people getting their due. There were plenty of films worth seeing this year, but if any film made a case for the importance of theatrical exhibition, Blue is the Warmest Color it was Gravity. Her
Philomena
On the surface, the story of Her sounds a bit silly: a man falls in love with a highly advanced operating system. As it turns out, though, director Spike Jonze (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) has created a love story that’s incredibly relevant for today. The film’s central message: learning to live through heartbreak and coming out better for it. It’s a message that should resonate with anyone who’s ever experienced a bad relationship, romantic or otherwise, and in Her, it’s told with warmth, humor, and not an ounce of cynicism.
The promotional materials for this film suggested a humorous journey, and there is some amusement the film derives from Judi Dench’s Philomena Lee, but Philomena is an affecting drama made all the more heartbreaking by its basis in reality. Philomena follows a woman forced decades earlier to give her son up for adoption by the Catholic church, and the journey she took with BBC reporter Martin Sixsmith to find him.
Availability: Opens in Atlanta Friday, Jan. 10. Nebraska Road trips are a cinematic staple, but with Nebraska, director Alexander Payne delivers a charming, intimate look at the relationship between an uncontrollable father who’s convinced he’s won a million dollar sweepstakes and the son who reluctantly agrees to drive him to Nebraska to claim his reward. Will Forte, best known for his absurd Saturday Night Live characters, pulls off understated surprisingly well here, but the cast standout is June Squibb as the mother with an unfiltered mouth. The Wolf of Wall Street
What Maisie Knew Based on the Henry James story of the same name from 1897, What Maisie Knew tells the story of Maisie (newcomer Onata Aprile), a young girl caught in-between her two self-involved parents, who use the girl as a bargaining tool in their selfish attempts to one-up each other. Even as it hits on the same emotional notes throughout its runtime, watching Maisie’s increasing understanding of her parents faults makes What Maisie Knew one of the more emotionally devastating films of the year.
The World’s End
Availability: Now available on Blu-ray, iTunes, and VOD. The World’s End Director Edgar Wright and stars Simon Pegg & Nick Frost reunite for their third film, following Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Where the comedy in earlier films was simply fun, though, the age of the cast members and the themes of growing up vs. holding onto one’s youth make The World’s End hit harder. Don’t worry, though; the fun and absurdity are still there, in spectacular fashion. Availability: Now available on Blu-ray, iTunes, Redbox, and VOD.

The Wolf of Wall Street Of all the Martin Scorsese/Leonardo DiCaprio collaborations, The Wolf of Wall Street is by far the most absurd. Based on a memoir by Jordan Belfour, The Wolf of Wall Street follows a crooked banker’s debaucherous rise and fall in the 80s and 90s. And boy, does Scorsese show the debauchery – sex, drugs, obscene wealth; they’re all on display. But as much as the decadence is played for laughs, there’s also a chilling message about the ability for excess wealth to corrupt. Availability: Playing in theaters now. 28 // davidatlanta.com

LIBRA (September 23 – October 22): Socializing
workday is something out of a movie: Fast-paced action on the most exciting and challenging projects, after which you get the guy and a happy ending. In reality, things couldn’t be duller, and mundane projects are laden with frustrating details that only slow you down. Make the best of it at work today. Your excitement will come after work, when you will get the guy.
today will put you in contact with people with whom you may have had tenuous relationships, mainly ex-boyfriends and jilted lovers. This prospect always has you nervous. Today you will be amazed that they are happy to see you, and the troubles of the past have stayed there. Holding grudges is may keep you from staying friends with people who were special to begin with.
TAURUS (April 20 – May 20): Have some good earthy
SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21): You’ve dug
fun today by going out and getting your hands dirty. Not in the garden, mind you, but on the social circuit, where you will work the room with the smooth sophistication of a young Cary Grant. Or an old Cary Grant, for that matter. You’ll have plenty of cash to spend, and a companion on each arm. Romance could bloom, if that’s what you want. But for today, just have a ball.
up some dirt on a rival that you’re probably not supposed to know. How you came across the info is strictly confidential, but disclosure could be quite damaging. You’re tempted to get back at him for his many offenses by quietly leaking the news to a public who will eat it up. But something is holding you back. What if it were you? Keep it to yourself.
GEMINI (May 21- June 20): You have no problem communicating with your friends, and the chatter could go on all night. Your family, though, is a different story. Perhaps you still haven’t come clean to them, or they’re still dealing with your orientation, but family conversations are uncomfortable. Try opening lines of communication with them. You may have to be the catalyst in helping them understand the true you.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 20): People will drive you crazy today, and you’ll prefer being in the company of animals. This means you wouldn’t have to listen to the details of their each and every drama. That may not be possible, so deal with the humans in your life as best you can. Be cordial, and pretend to listen as you daydream about strolling hand in hand along a beach with Anderson Cooper.
CANCER (June 21- July 22): Squint your eyes and get
CAPRICORN (December 21 – January 19): Like a
out the magnifying glass today, as the small details will be larger than life. This will be true in all parts of your life, as your analytical mind won’t leave anything to chance. Take advantage of this by making plans, especially those dealing with travel. You’ll have all your bases covered, and you can relax when the day of the trip arrives.
surgeon, you expertly cut away to reveal and remove the offending parts. Use this talent in your business life today and you will see the details that will help your day run smoothly and efficiently. In your personal life, you will be able to get in deeper by removing bothersome things like shirts and underwear.
LEO (July 23 – August 22): Recent spending splurges
AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18): Tread with caution when dealing with others today, because they may not have the same clarity of vision. This can lead to misunderstandings, especially with boyfriends, who always seem to hear only what they want to hear. Make your intentions known to them today. By using simple logic, and small, easyto-understand words, they might just see things your way.
will have you cutting back, and cutting corners, as your bank account has gone from Arnold to Pee Wee. Being a little more conservative in your spending, and putting yourself on a smart budget, will have the coffers healthy and strong again in no time. But keeping to your lifestyle won’t be as hard as you think. Your generosity is legend. Time to call in some favors.
VIRGO (August 23 – September 22): You have so many details on your mind you can’t keep track of them all, and you’re as unfocused as a showing of Japanese performance art. Today could be a good one to just let go, and let your mind drift. When you emerge from your self-imposed exile, you will find that your clarity will return. Dealing with the details will be much easier.

PISCES (February 19 – March 19): Sometimes it’s best to just let your freak flag fly, and live life on the run. Making it up as you go along can bring about a spontaneity that can lead to fresh and original ideas. So don’t mull over the tiny details today; they will only slow you down.

T
he New Year Baby symbolizes fresh new beginnings. Out with the old and in with the new! In honor of this bundle of joy, this week’s edition of Favorite Bitch is all about baby momma & baby daddy drama! I really hope these folks are adding the use of condoms to their New Year’s Resolutions. Especially today - let our tax payer dollars pray they’re popping champagne instead of popping raw pussies!
Dear Miss Tiger, The neighbor’s daughter has always been real close to our family. She spends a lot of time here playing video games with my sixteen year old son. We just found out that she’s pregnant and he’ll be a father in seven months. I’m in shock and need advice. Please help, Tiger! -Constance
Dear Miss Tiger, Dear Guess You Got Another Tax Deduction, My ex boyfriend got me pregnant with twins. I thought he had major bank when we were dating. Now I find out he’s really broke and can’t even afford to pay me child support. I don’t know what to do! -Tonya
Looks like she was playing with dick, not with video games! Honey, you’re just gonna have to get the fuck over it and start picking out car seats. Every cloud has a silver lining though ... be glad it was your son who knocked her up and not your husband! NEXT!
Dear Counting Pampers Instead Of That Paper,
Dear Miss Tiger,
Look, I can’t tell your ass what to do about this one. But I can give you some advice about the next loser: Before you run your fingers over that new dick, try running your fingers over the receipt from his ATM machine. NEXT!
My sister thinks she’s pregnant. She’s not exactly sure yet, because the pregnancy test was blurry. She also doesn’t know who the daddy is. I’m gay and I don’t know what to do about this because we live together!
Dear Miss Tiger,
-Andy
Two different females are claiming that my man got them pregnant. Me and him already got two kids. He’s not giving any bitches money that takes away from what my babies need. How do I get these hoes out of our lives?
Dear Built-In Babysitter,
-Trina
By the way, I can tell you what to do ... try buying that bitch a box of goddamn rubbers!
Dear Try Being A Future Guest On The Maury Show, But in the meantime, keep this in mind: Whether it’s your man or a state enforced wage garnishment, trust me when I say that if he is the father, these bitches are gonna get their coins! P.S. You’re just as trifling as your tired-ass baby daddy. Instead of worrying about getting these baby mommas outta your lives, I suggest you concentrate on getting him up outta yours! NEXT! 58 // davidatlanta.com
The only thing that’s blurry is your sister’s memory when it comes to how many guys she’s been fuckin’.

Hey, two-faced bitches: we know who you are, how you are, and that your game is played out. Better stick to blackjack.
Why is Midtown turning so straight?
For you so-called A-list bears, whatever that is: this is the ATL, not LA or NY. We all get along here! 60 // davidatlanta.com
If I’ve given you my phone number, why do you keep messaging me through the app?
Sexpert? That porn is so vanilla, I almost poured Hershey’s and sprinkles on that DVD.
Excuse me for not being sympathetic when you whine about how lonely you are after you shot me down just because I’m black.
My ex was such a ho. He thought “STD” meant “sex time, dear.” No little girl: you and your group were NOT the butchest guys in the bar! When are you steroid junkies gonna learn, a REAL MAN doesn’t have to project his masculinity. He shows it with his actions, NOT by saying shit. For the twenty-somethings: no, you’re not special! Mom and Dad may have told ya so, but the world looks at y’all a totally different way. Get some damn manners!
If there is a “friend code” and you are a true friend, then no, you wouldn’t hook up with your friend’s recent ex. Unless you’re a no-class ho. *This page reflects the bitchiness of the community not David Atlanta or its publisher (although we’re bitchy too!)
