This will include school-related expenses only; summer daycare tax statements must be requested from daycare director Mellissa Flaherty. Remember that not all payments to FLS are tax deductible, and you should contact a tax advisor to find out what can be written off, and what cannot. PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Can you believe that Mid-Quarter is next Wednesday? I do a grade check on the Middle School every three weeks and I was EXTREMELY excited to see how well they were doing. VERY few had any grades below 80% and most of those that did only had one subject below 80%. I am praying that this will keep up or improve even more before this quarter is over. Thank you parents for pushing your children to do their best. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: End of January already? Amazing! We are so busy learning in PS-the time just flies! The 100th Day of School can drive goes through the 31st. Help us reach the 100 can goal! Feb 2nd will be a big day-Show and Tell and Pajama Day! We get to wear our PJ's as we learn the letter P. This week our theme is "Owls" and our letter is "O". Blessings! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: We are kicking off our 100th Day of School celebrations! We have been reading books, counting to 100 and other fun activities for the 100th Day of School. Our 100th Day is Tuesday the 31st. Please remember to have your students count out 100 snack items to add to our trail mix. Our chapel offering is for missions in Madagascar. We are taking virtual mission trips to Madagascar this week. Your child brought home a paper bank last week to collect offerings in. Please bring those next Wednesday, I also have one in my classroom. We are working to get 100 cans of non perishable food items in our building by the 100th day of school. Our Bible words this week are [Jesus said,] "I am the light of the world." John 9:5 Have a blessed week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Flaherty: Welcome back Tia and Taani!!! This week we are learning about bears, letter Gg and number 19. Also, like to wish Finley a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Next week on Tuesday the 31st it will be our 100th day of school! We will have a special show and tell on that day. Please have your child count 100 small items out and put them in a zip bag for show and tell. (It can be anything small like m&m's candy or cereal, etc.) We are also still collecting 100 cans of food in the ECE building for that special day. Have a wonderful week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is 1 Timothy 1:15 - Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Our 100th day of school is on Tuesday. Remember to bring in a can of food and 100 items for our trail mix. These may be brought anytime this week. Friday will be show and tell! I am still missing several report cards. Please return a signed copy if you have not so yet! Happy birthday to Lila today! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: January is flying by. Please remember that your child needs a shoe box by February 2. Several book reports have been turned in and they look fabulous. These are due on Monday, January 30. Let me know if you have questions. Please return the permission slip for the trip to West Middle School by February 1. Please send BOX TOPS. We're having a contest and we'd love to win. Keep reading for AR. Fourth Commandment and meaning is due tomorrow. Blessings! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: We finally have a full week of school! I was able to finally get grades entered and kids caught up on missing work. I only have a few more corrections to have students do, if you have any questions about grades please let me know. This week: Test - Spelling and Reading on Friday. Please remember that next week will be Unit 3 spelling words, and we will be starting a class chapter book so no paragraphs or reading test for a few weeks. Science- Animal projects are due next Friday, February 3rd. Let me know if you have any questions. Book Reports - Sorry about not sending home the project information last week, I will send it home on Friday. Math - We have started multiplication. Every Friday and in our free time we have been working on on Math box. These are worksheets to help your child learn their facts. I ask that you please also help them outside of class, I will be quizzing them on these facts. By this Friday they need to have their 0 and 1 facts done, and then they need to start working on their 2 facts. FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: I hope that we are all working on our Invention Convention projects. Due dates are listed out in the Inventor’s Log. Please ask me if you have any questions. There is a Planning & Help Guide available in the classroom if needed. I sent home an Example sheet yesterday. Continue to be reading for AR & Book IT. January Book IT sheets are due on Tuesday. Some are well on their way to making or have made their goal already! Many have found that without nightly reading at home, it can be difficult to make our AR goal. Continue practicing the multiplication table; we are now doing long division. Help the kids to be patient to be with these specific and detailed processes. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte We're having a good week here in 5th grade. Even with the many basketball games, dance and gymnastics practices and all the other things children today are involved in most of us are getting our work done on time and doing it well. This is definitely an improvement over last week when we had much late work throughout the class. We have a math test tomorrow and a spelling and reading test on Friday. We are going ice skating at the Wichita Ice Center on Wednesday, February 8. Please see the attached note about this. Blessings!

MIDDLE SCHOOL Middle School Dance: has been postponed to Friday – FEBRUARY 24. Special Youth Event this Sunday for 6th grade through high school. Come join us and learn how to make candy, which we'll sell for a fundraiser (and of course taste test first), share a meal, have a devo, watch a movie and just hang-out, Jan. 29th 4-7pm in the youth house. Mrs. Harbeson: Are you hanging in there? It sure seems like we have a lot going on lately . . . practices, games, tournaments, volunteering, and not to mention school . . . we all are super busy right now! One other thing that has hit FLS hard this week is the flu. We've had several out in all classes. Please, please, if your student is running a fever, keep him or her at home. I appreciate those of you who are teaching the importance of regular attendance, but sending them to school ill just spreads it to the rest of us. All of the teachers will work to help get your student caught up. Student council elections were held today and the new representatives will be announced on Thursday during homeroom. We will hold our first stuco meeting next week. Check out your student's class page on my website (harbolanguage.blogspot.com) to see what we are doing this week in language. I pray we all have a great (and healthy) week! Mrs. Pacey: Happy full week of school! We are working on fraction operations in 6th through 8th. Algebra is working on creating linear equations. Drama needs to be memorizing Jabberwocky. Mrs. Hanson/Mrs. Hercyk: Tests are complete for the 8th and 7th grades and they have moved onto new chapters, CH 14 and CH 8 respectively. 8th grade is learning about invertebrates and have looked at sponges under a microscope! They have also made 3 working worm farms!!! 7th is now studying earthquakes This builds on their knowledge of the Earth's interior that they learned about in the last chapter. I have postponed the 6th grade test to sometime later next week as we are still working on some of the concepts. They will have a 2 minute presentation to do with a partner next Tuesday. It will be over one of the topics we have learned. Tanya Hercyk Mr. Covert: It looks like we’ll have a full week of school this week! I pray that everyone is staying healthy with all the bugs going around. 8th grade is working through the battles of the Civil War, and should finish this week before moving onto Reconstruction. In 7th grade, we’re working our way through Eastern Asia, and the issues that are ongoing in that part of the world. 6th grade is finished with Rome as a republic, and we’re starting to focus on Rome’s decline as an empire. I pray that God continues to bless everyone who is a part of this school family as we move through the Epiphany season. Blessings on your week!

Remember there’s a $5 discount if ordered/paid for by March 31, 2017! We want to have additional pictures of every student in the yearbook, and you can help! The best way to make sure that we have pictures of your child in the yearbook, is to submit your pictures! Replay It is a free app from Jostens that is used to share photos to the yearbook staff. We have an account set up, and once you download the app and link it to our school, you will be able to upload pictures right then and there; it is incredibly easy to use. NO more saving the photos to a flash drive, tracking someone down to give it to, and worrying about getting it back. The pictures only take seconds to upload and share with everyone. If you forget your camera at a school event, you may go out and look at all the photos submitted by other school families. So please download the app today and start sharing your pictures!!!
